"Oliveto in Rockridge. Even though the Kleins were ready to retire and will be continuing their thriving Community Grains business, it felt like the end of an era for that storied corner of College Avenue." - Eater Staff

"Oliveto, a titan of Italian fare in the Bay Area, is situated in the heart of Rockridge above Market Hall, with large windows giving view to College Avenue. The restaurant is separated into a fine dining experience upstairs and more casual cafe downstairs. The dinner menu is updated daily for both areas, renown for its fresh pastas, grilled meats, and savory roasts. Many more Italian restaurants have opened in the area since Oliveto first opened, but people keep coming back here for more. Open for takeout and delivery." - Clara Hogan, Eater Staff

Just had dinner here tonight for Mother’s Day and……it was not good. The food wasn’t great and the service was bad. I really hate writing negative reviews but tonight’s dinner was disappointing, especially since it was on Mother’s Day. :((( CONS -our servers were not very friendly and never once asked if we needed anything, if our food was okay….nothing! And it’s not like they were busy. -Caesar salad was okay but dressing didn’t taste like Caesar. Lacked flavor. -Lasagne dish: AWFUL. It wasn’t even hot, the pasta sheet edges was hard, and it tasted like it was not fresh and made from a box. -Steelhead filet: Fish was cold, it was cooked just right, but it had no flavor at all. The potatoes were also bland and tasted old. The fennel arugula salad was not good and soggy. -Strawberry shortcake dessert: The short bread was bland and hard like a stale biscuit, and the whip cream tasted old and runny. -Chocolate hazelnut cake: hard like a rock like it was just taken out of the freezer and needed to be thawed. -Yes, I get the outdoor dining seating bc of covid but the blazing sun was blaring onto all is. They didn’t have any shade or umbrellas. Uncomfortable. PROS: -friendly hostess -plenty of parking -panna cotta was good I have been wanting to try this place for years and it was just disappointing. I don’t get why everyone loves this place so much. Will not be back.

Great outside dining. Enjoyed asparagus, Arugula salad, salmon, and tiramisu. Service was very good despite the busy dinner hour. I'll return.

By a stoke of luck my wife was offered 8:00 pm reservations for a Friday by a colleague. I was excited since I had never been and heard a lot about the restaurant over the years living in the East Bay. Sadly the restaurant is closing in the new year. My wife and I had an enjoyable evening. We started with some glasses of Chianti in the bar before dinner. We were seated with a nice view of College Avenue. The ambience was subdued and class without pretension. Classic upscale Bay Area vibe. We had the Chicory salad to start which fresh and had a great seasonal feeling to it. Then we had the raviolis which were delicious but not enough. Then we had the halibut which was wonderful perfectly cooked. Lastly we had the carrot cake for dessert which was recommended by the waiter based on the feedback he heard from customers. We had a really nice and relaxing evening. Find farewell to Oliveto!

Mostly good food, except for 1 horrible beef dish that they couldn't explain. Mediocre staff. No wonder they include the 18% service charge ahead of time even for just 4 people!

Good experience, BUT didn't enjoy the outside dinning on very narrow shared street. pizza, salad, etc was all very delicious!

Food was ok. Didn't help we had a bad waitress that took 25 minutes to help us, forgot a whole course and our coffee and then automatically added 18% to our bill.

Glad to have finally tried this place. Sad to see it close.
