The Best New Restaurants in NYC

"A recently opened Nü-Mexican–styled restaurant in Further Bed-Stuy with stucco walls and an elm-tree mural whose founders come from Cosme and Pujol, bringing polished CDMX-style bites to a gentrifying corner. The short menu leans comforting and smoky—standouts include a hot cazuela of queso fundido and a bowl of fideos secos that’s almost mole-ish with chorizo—while the drinks are playful (try a michelada de reversa, with a frozen, stickless Clamato paleta melting into the beer). Desserts are minor notes, yet a plate of very ripe mango dusted with panela sugar shines on its own." - Grub Street

Google
This seems to be a quite famous spot amongst the students. The shop is quite small and busy, so they have a system where you walk in to order from the kiosks but wait outside. Bagels were fantastic. They have some interesting specialty cream cheeses, like the elote one I tried. It had a unique tang unlike any other cream cheese I've had. All around great bagels. Service time is upwards of 15 minutes.

Google
I love Olmo!! The food is so good, the service is so warm, and the price is right! I ate here almost every day I was visiting New Haven and it never disappointed! Shoutout to the incredibly kind and attentive team and a special thanks to my babygirl Lisseth 🤘🏼🥯

Google
Outdoor seating only. Inside there are computers to order on or a cashier at one in the back. Great service and very efficient. Bagels are delicious, unique flavors and great quality on classics. Willing to make adjustments to order if go to cashier. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. 10/10 would recommend if you visit new haven area. Everything everything bagel is a must, okonomiyaki and lox with love are my go to whenever I visit, but the hot turkey has become a new favourite for a hungry higher protein meal.

Google
In town for vacation and had an excellent experience! Delicious food and the staff were super friendly and helpful. They even recommended places in town for us to try during our visit. If I could give them an even better rating I would, highly recommend!

Google
Hands down the best bagel shop in New Haven! Their schmear is to die for, and the chili crisp oil bagel really stands out—so flavorful. It was my first visit, and despite being busy, the gentleman working there took the time to help me with a recommendation—and it definitely worked for me. I took home a variety of bagels for my family, and we loved every single one. Amazing service and even better food. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
Olmo is our go to bagel place in New Haven, great bagels, friendly staff and conveniently located on the corner of Whitney and Trumbull. Because they have such a great product, there’s almost a guaranteed wait. Order ahead and you’re smooth sailing, but if you’re in a rush and plan to walk-in you may be waiting a while (from my own experience it’s ~10-15 minutes). Good variety of bagels, sandwiches and accoutrements, and non-typical schmears, all in all- worth trying!

Google
Finally got to try Olmo’s and I can definitely say why it’s rated the best bagel shop in New Haven. I ordered the Za’atar bagel with spicy scallion cream cheese, which I was coincidentally told was one of the most popular combos. Needless to say the flavor is excellent and the cream cheese didn’t skimp on the spices. Great service too - even during a rush they managed to keep things running smooth and lighthearted, and I really appreciated the friendliness of the cashier Megan!

Google
Super friendly service, easy to order on their touch screen, and delicious bagel sandwiches. Got a cacio e pepe toasted bagel with over easy egg, cheese, avocado, and roasted turkey. DELICIOUS! Everything was super fresh, tasty and only took a few minutes to get. They bring the order to you outside in a friendly manner and you can eat it at one of the available outdoor tables. Great experience all around.

Yelp
Olmo is a New Haven treasure - incredible offerings and a consistent aim to innovate. The menu has something for everyone yet it is hard to veer off from long-standing favorites. The shop is welcoming and the owner and employees are warm and clearly committed to their mission. Their camaraderie is inspiring!

Yelp
Order their most popular sandwich and a plain cold brew. Eat it immediately and don't mess around and like, leave it sitting in your passenger seat for 15 minutes on the way to work. Very picky about my breakfast sandwiches, especially when the vessel is a bagel. To quote the great Gwen Stefani, "this s*** is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S." Very yummy. Go here.
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly staff, tasty bagels and very fresh. Love that everything can be customized. Easy ordering by computer or with a real person! Very small inside, only tables for eating outside or carry out. * Disclaimer * these bagels aren't quite as fluffy as a typical NYC bagel but the dough and flavor was really good

Yelp
Yes I waited a long time for my bagel, but it was absolutely worth it. I cannot recommend this place enough, especially because they also accommodate vegans and have vegan cream cheese. The gentleman at the front managing the DoorDash/uber orders and crowd control was amazing and very helpful regarding updates on my order. I was also able to try their chocolate chip cookie and it is out of control addicting. Definitely worth the trip.

Yelp
Worth the hype. We visited on a rainy Sunday and it was already packed with people. The orders took a while so I would recommend doing a pickup order for ease. Some bagel sandwich flavors may change on the menu depending on the time of year (depending on seasonal) so just check in before you order. So delicious!!

Yelp
The main breakfast bagel shop I've been going to! I love the Okonomiyaki bagel, added with some avocado mash, it hits the spot. The variety of bagels are also delicious, I really like the Qatar bagel, which goes well with really any filling. There's always a wait, but they make the bagels fairly quickly. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
I love a bagel, and being back in the northeast means I needed to get at least one bagel. Went to Olmo at around 9:30 AM on Saturday. The interior of the shop is very cozy and was quite crowded. We ordered on these screens after waiting for about 5 min. We were all asked to wait outside, which had ample seating. About 15 min later, a man came out to hand us our food. I ordered a toasted everything everything bagel with spinach and artichoke schmear. The bagel was crunchy and dense which was great, but I really loved the flavor of the cream cheese. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Stopped by this place while walking around Yale and MANNNN did it hit the spot. The smoked salmon and the absurd amount of schmear really made its way into my heart (with love, not like a heart attack). The service was very wonderful and they even added a blueberry muffin to my order to try it out. If I'm back in Connecticut, I'm definitely stopping by again!
google avatar

Susan V.

Yelp
The best bagel place in CT! Hands down. Always crowded but staff is fast and friendly.

Joe A.

Yelp
An excellent New Haven staple. I look forward every week to going there for their excellent bagels, second to none. Their lox is always fresh, and the workers know me by name at this point. I'd be remiss if I didn't give this five stars
google avatar

Nuvdeep D.

Yelp
There's a reason this bagel spot is the best! So glad to have this gem in New Haven. You know it's good when there is always a line out the front! The bagel sandwich itself is absolutely delicious you can taste the freshness and quality of flavors. The smears are made fresh, I had the spicy scallion and it's actually spicy! The bagels are soft, yet crisp when toasted. As a person who loves scream cheese I really appreciate how much they pack into this bagel. I'll be back to try more. Outdoor seating only. You can order at the kiosk or online and your order will be called out. There is street parking as well as a lot across the street.

Yelp
Being from NJ, I had high expectations for this bagel shop, and it delivered! Unfortunately, I visited during Yale's parents' weekend, so there was a long line, and our order took a while. But I have to give Olmo credit--they were super efficient and handled the crowd well. The ambiance was nice--ordering inside on a kiosk was easy, and there were plenty of seats outside to sit and enjoy your food. I got an egg sandwich with bacon on a bagel, and it was absolutely delicious--a perfect breakfast sandwich! Not sure it was worth the wait that day, but I'd definitely come back on a less busy day.

Yelp
I supposedly lucked out, since the whitefish salad is only back for a limited time. It was delicious, but I'm unsure what constitutes a "New Haven" bagel. It definitely was a unique flavor and a different change of pace from a standard bagel and lox or any typical bagel sandwich. It was a good combination of ingredients, and I appreciate the customization options on their menu. It's a cute place, but gets crowded easily and quickly.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a very popular place as it remains busy round the clock. We tried a bagel and the Latka. The bagel was quite fresh. The Latka was a surprise for me. It's basically a potato hash but tastes much better. I would recommend booking using the Toast app for a faster service.

Why N.

Yelp
very tasty, certainly because of the abundance of sauce and cheese. Kind of a chaotic morning rush but the workers keep it moving and have a good vibe.

Yelp
Wow. I don't get impressed with lots of bagel places but this one has it all. Online ordering. Great bagels. Even better sandwiches and Schmears. Great friendly service. (Ok so parking is a bit of a pain but most people walk). It's small inside but that's fine. I had an everything bagel and I loved the sandwich with BEC. The bacon with crispy without being burnt and the egg was fresh and definitely friend over hard. Just delish. Get it with the avocado mash. The cold brew is also a winner. Not too dark it was the great way to enjoy a late summer morning. Overall just a great place. Loved it.

Yelp
I just tried your bagels at our farmers market in Wallingford!!!!!OMG your bagels are the BEST I have ever eaten! We are going to the market again and again first stop OLMOS!!!!!! When the market season ends we will be heading to New Haven!!!!!! Thank you thank you!

No I.

Yelp
Waited over half an hour for nothing. I paid twice for nothing. I didn't even get the bagel. Never coming back. If you want to waste ur time here this is place to come
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Would go back for the bagels, but the coffee was the worst coffee I've ever had in my life, bitter and burnt. Very popular place, supposedly one of the best bagel places in New Haven, but I was not blown away by the bagels. Service was very friendly though, and I liked the systems in place for online pickup and ordering kiosks.
google avatar

Yelp
Great bagel stop frequented by students and local New Haveners. Bagels are made fresh every day with delicious toppings. It does get busy around brunch time but somehow the line always moves quickly! No seating indoors but some lovely and hard to nab tables outdoors.
google avatar

Eric K.

Yelp
What a great way to spend a Sunday morning in New Haven! The best bagel I have ever had in my entire life! Everything everything bagel was so good! The people working here are all awesome! Place is well run, organized and food is the best 5 star!!
google avatar

Yelp
Just great flavorful bagels in the Elm city. Lots of choices and the sandwiches are to die for. I have the market special, very tasty. Sandwiches are on the high price end ($9 and $10) but they are pretty good. Service was fast and the sitting outside is cool.on a nice day. Can't wait to have some.more of these bagels.

Yelp
Time for me to finally do my Olmo review... Dear Olmo, thank you for gracing the New Haven community. There is a reason why this place is always packed, regardless of the time and day. It's so delicious! I'm not a New Yorker, but this place beats all the places I've been to in NYC. My go to is the pastrami, egg, and, cheese and it never disappoints! It's so so good and the bagel sandwich is literally huge! They make all their bagels and shmears in house every single morning. You can taste the freshness. What I love most about the bagel is that, it is toasted to perfection and has a great crunch but is also very soft at the same time. It doesn't feel stale. A must have when you come to New Haven.
google avatar

Nieke T.

Yelp
Funny restroom Glad that they made sure you have ample supply of toilet paper. All the bagle sandwiches we had were amazing. But the Babka stole the show! it was DELICIOUS! with Beautiful yummy chocolate layers. The service was super. Very friendly and eager to help. We stopped by here during our Independence Trails rad trip. Make sure you stop by and get your food from Olmo.

Yelp
Awesome bagels with generous schmears! The everything on everything bagel really had every flavour possible and was fantastic. Self order at kiosk, easy pickup and delicious breakfast. 10/10 recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
They are the best to work with. Professional, courteous, fast, efficient, delicious. The best!!! Thank you for helping make our events a success!

Yelp
The best bagels! Always fresh and delicious. Everyone is super nice; they always make an effort to say hello.

Yelp
This bagel shop exemplifies the perfection of customer service at this level. With amazing creations of smears, fresh bagels, and personal service you get a stand out bagel shop worth every penny. Outside area is nice as well, with plenty of outside seating.
google avatar

Yelp
Family of 5 - 3 wty bagels with schmear, bagel with Lox, turkey sandwich bagel. Spicy scallion cream cheese is spicy and orange/turmeric color so don't wear white - it is a bit messy but delicious. Toasted bagel has a good crunch and soft inside. Lox bagel was fresh and filling. Olmo turns out orders quickly and very friendly staff. 3 self serve kiosks or person who is friendly and happy to take your order. Option to also place online order (which I recommend). Seating out front - some shade options
google avatar

Yelp
Best bagels in New Haven county!! The place is always crowded. I often order for pick up and it's prompt. The bagels are delicious. It's more expensive than the other chain bagel places around but it's worth the price.

David R.

Yelp
As always Olmo never disappoints! Quality cleanliness staff... I can't say enough! I have yet to have a bad experience or meal there-5 stars for sure!

Yelp
A counter/kiosk-and-outdoor-seating operation only, Olmo is just a few blocks away from Yale and just a minute off I-91, yet still in a quiet, almost residential neighborhood. Surprisingly good with customer service. More importantly, I like their bagels. I like that they don't go too crazy trying to have dozens of flavors, even if I can think of a couple I wish they had. I also like that the kiosk/online interface has photos of every item. And I love their bathroom, whose toilet paper rolls qualify as installation art. They're billed as "New Haven style bagels," whose defining element, they say, is the steaming, rather than boiling, prior to the bake. Whatever it is, I liked it last year and again recently. Texturally, they're in that sweet spot that avoids being too dense or too light. Everything Everything bagels for both of us, with avocado mash (all avocado, no cheese) for my wife and veggie spread (pink)with a generous portion of salmon for yours truly. The cream cheeses are very soft and whipped, and the bagels themselves aren't just vessels for the spreads and toppings. The EE were intensely flavored, with garlic and spicy pepper strongest among the seeds and spices. Very friendly staff, good coffee, amusing bathroom, and plenty of tables on the patio.

Yelp
When it comes to good bagels, Olmo is difficult to beat! Located on Whitney Ave. in New Haven, this small bagel shop has some of the tastiest, freshest bagels I've ever had. When you walk in, they have self-serve kiosks to the left that you use to order. They have a good variety of bagels to choose from, where you can add your choice of "Schmear" (cream cheese) as well as other toppings like savory butter, bacon jam, onion, tomato, spicy mayo, etc. There are also several different breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods to choose from. Once you order and pay using the kiosk, your food will be ready within a few minutes at the counter. I went and ordered an Onion Sea Salt Bagel toasted with Scallion Schmear, and it was so delicious! To drink I got the Olmo Arnold Palmer, which is lemonade with your choice of black or hibiscus tea (I went with the hibiscus). So refreshing! The staff were friendly and polite. The place is pretty small and there are no tables to eat inside, but they do have a nice patio area out front with tables. Overall I would highly recommend!

Yelp
This is clearly a very popular bagel spot in New Haven. When we approached, there were about 10-12 people waiting outside for their order, and when we went inside there were about 10 or so people waiting for their order/ordering at the kiosks. I was able to order at the kiosk pretty quickly ( a small coffee and a sesame bagel with scallion cream cheese and heirloom tomato). I heard one of the people behind the counter quoting a 25-30 minute wait, so I almost hesitated to order the bagel and just had coffee for breakfast, but it was a nice day, so I decided to go ahead. Which honestly, was a decent choice as my order probably took 10-15 minutes to come out. Definitely no where near 25-30 minutes. The store is small, and all of the seating is outdoors FYI. Now to the bagel: It was in my opinion a pretty average bagel. I'm REALLY sorry if that sounds a bit harsh on Olmos end... but I've had my fair share of bagels throughout my life and I think the bagel lacked a bit of flavor and taste of freshness tbh. The thing that really got me was that I paid $3.00 for a couple of slices of heirloom tomato and the tomato I got was not only mealy and somewhat mushy, but it really did not seem to be heirloom. Now, obviously that's just speculation. It totally could have been heirloom, but it didn't have the deepness in color or flavor that the heirloom tomatoes I've gotten in the past have. And if I'm paying 3 dollars for a couple of slices of tomato... it really should be somewhat high quality. I'm thinking that my experience must have been just a one off... and I think I'd definitely try it again if I was in the area as there are so many stellar reviews. But I definitely was not impressed with the offerings I got that day. I will say, they LOADED that B up with cream cheese like their life depended on it though. There was no lack of cream cheese on that bagel. I could have probably had 2 other bagels cream cheesed with the amount of cream cheese on my one bagel. I will also note that the young woman who served me the bagel was very kind. So the customer service is definitely there.
google avatar

Daniella M.

Yelp
Picked up an order for my co workers and it was ready upon arrival. The bagels were so good we loved the spicy cream cheese and Cacio e Pepe bagel. I tried the hot turkey sandwich on and everything bagel and it was delicious

Harrison N.

Yelp
The bagels are Good. They make them fresh, probably one of the better bagels you will find in the New Haven area, but why do I have to use a self service Kiosk to order a bagel with cream cheese and a coffee? You wait in a line to go up and order on a screen that took me way longer to figure out than just telling the staff that I want a bagel with cream cheese and a coffee. Not the vibe for a blue collar worker looking to grab breakfast on the way to work. Nice place, clean, friendly staff, would go back on a weekend and eat a bagel in the park. But it's just too much of a process and a hassle to get a simple breakfast.

Grace K.

Yelp
Incredibly delicious bagel & out of this world schmear. I went in on a short break from jury duty, this place made my day. My order was ready quickly and served with a friendly smile. I enjoyed this bagel so much that I yearned for it after finishing dinner that same day then drove back to New Haven the following day to get another & some more to bring home.
google avatar

JoyDawn P.

Yelp
Great local spot for freshly made bagels. Limited seating outside but definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Another spot I am late to the party on. They say the devils in the details and at Olmo they pride themselves on that After a less than stellar bagel sandwich from a well known CT chain a couple of weeks ago Mark was wary about my attempts to "force" another CT bagel place on him. So needless to say he went into this order with some trepidation (even though I was paying for it) I ordered it to go and it was a good sign when we arrived that they were doh g a brisk business but still had their s**t together getting people in and out of their small store. The first thing Mark mentioned was the aroma as soon as I entered the car. He was intrigued. That was replaced with utter joy with his first bite -declaring this one of the best he's had in a while and re establishing my role as chief food finder. Crunchy with just enough bite and filled delicious crispy bacon he was a happy guy! Thank you Olmo for redeeming Mark's love of me and more importantly bagel sandwiches !
google avatar

Sidra S.

Yelp
I'm a little bagel brat and Olmo succeeds all my expectations. The service here is beyond amazing. My favorites are usually their bagels with spicy scallion schmear. Today I tried their Lox bagel which was good but not the best I've had I would stick to their bagels with schmear.

Sherry G.

Yelp
I've finally visited this phenomenal establishment this week and what was I waiting for is all I kept asking! The moment we walked in the greetings from the most welcoming group of friendly people were so ready to assist! I grabbed a menu (why?!) when I knew the only sandwich to choose was Lox with Love and I thought I was back in NY enjoying my good old days! Yes, bagels are completely different in various states and this was outstanding. Raphael who made my ordering very easy as I was having a little trouble (just out of hospital) and so patient with me along with LaSett (?) who has an awesome personality and brought out our order and sat and devoured it! Through the window I glanced up and we looked at each other and felt like we've been customers for years. Thank You Olmo for the best of the best in your place!
google avatar

Christian C.

Yelp
Popping bagel shop a couple minutes from campus. They're really heavy with the cream cheese FYI but my lox bagel was overall delicious! Staff were very friendly too. Expect long waits on the weekend.
google avatar

Tanni D.

Yelp
First time visiting and this place definitely delivered one of the best bagels I've had in a while. I got the Everything Bagel with Spicy Scallion. It was not spicy, but it tasted wonderful! The bagel was made fresh and the smear had a hint of sweetness, but it was also savory. There are no tables or chairs to sit indoors, so we stood for a short amount for our bagels. The wait is definitely worth it though!
google avatar

Charles V.

Yelp
Oh my! One of the best bagels I ever had. I was looking for my usual Bacon, Egg, and Cheese and found this place. I decided to go with a sesame bagel. After my first bite, I knew I was in for something special. The bagel was so moist and had amazing texture. And the taste with the sesame was incredible. Again, one of the best bagels I ever had. Only one problem. I like my BEC with a Diet Coke ... and this place just didn't offer it. I was ready to ding them on the rating for this, but the bagel was too good.
google avatar

Cary K.

Yelp
Best bagels just about anywhere really, love the sandwiches on everything everything bagels with a cold brew, perfect lunch, long may they reign
google avatar

Rose C.

Yelp
I hate to give it a two star review, but I got my fave sandwich of scrambled egg and bacon on a toasted sesame and it was not good. The scrambled eggs were awful. So greasy. I thought they were cooked in the bacon fat. The bagel didn't seem toasted unless it was all that grease. It was really disappointing. I don't think I will order it any longer.
google avatar

Karissa D.

Yelp
Fresh tasty bagel and scone. I got the Okonomiyaki on a toasted onion bagel with bacon & provolone. It was full of umami flavors. Plus an apple cinnamon scone with apple slices in it. I paid $15 for those two which I found very worth it. I used their online order system which went well, can't say much about inside service.
google avatar

Cassie S.

Yelp
I had a recommendation from some new coworkers. I decided to try Olmo. I was super impressed with how friendly the guys working behind the counter were. They all said hi, asked if I needed any recommendations, and they were even friendly enough to let me know I could order with them or on self checkout kiosk. I think that's a great option especially if you're a student or work in the area to quickly grab and go you can also order online ahead of time and get it for pick up. I will say this breakfast sandwich was PACKED with flavor. The bacon was super crispy, which is what I love to add layers of texture to my breakfast sandwich. I got a perfect cheese pull when I folded this in half so I was super impressed with the overall cook. The egg was well seasoned and the cheese melted everything together so well. There's plenty of seating outdoors which is so great when it's nice outside, you can have a great sandwich and enjoy the area around Yale. Overall, a very busy place with all the workers being super friendly and welcoming. I would definitely go back and try more based on the ambience and the food.
