A counter/kiosk-and-outdoor-seating operation only, Olmo is just a few blocks away from Yale and just a minute off I-91, yet still in a quiet, almost residential neighborhood.
Surprisingly good with customer service. More importantly, I like their bagels. I like that they don't go too crazy trying to have dozens of flavors, even if I can think of a couple I wish they had. I also like that the kiosk/online interface has photos of every item. And I love their bathroom, whose toilet paper rolls qualify as installation art.
They're billed as "New Haven style bagels," whose defining element, they say, is the steaming, rather than boiling, prior to the bake. Whatever it is, I liked it last year and again recently. Texturally, they're in that sweet spot that avoids being too dense or too light.
Everything Everything bagels for both of us, with avocado mash (all avocado, no cheese) for my wife and veggie spread (pink)with a generous portion of salmon for yours truly. The cream cheeses are very soft and whipped, and the bagels themselves aren't just vessels for the spreads and toppings. The EE were intensely flavored, with garlic and spicy pepper strongest among the seeds and spices.
Very friendly staff, good coffee, amusing bathroom, and plenty of tables on the patio.
