The Best Kosher Restaurants in NYC | Eater NY

"The name says it all: Olympia Pita was founded in 1972 right on Brooklyn’s Coney Island Avenue, making wonderful fresh pitas as its centerpiece right from the start. These are lush and puffy flatbreads, delivered warm and fit to go along with the selection of salads and grilled meats. Don’t miss the Yemenite soup or the shawarma egg rolls." - Eater Staff

Food was so delicious and fresh, the salads were perfectly seasoned and tasted great. They were a great thing to eat while waiting for my food. The service was amazing I got my food 5 minutes after I ordered. The waiter was super nice and funny. Overall a great experience at Olympia Steakhouse.

My third time coming in olympia pita . I love this israeli vibe , so pleasant to sit there and just have a good time. We ordered The chef's salad , and you get unlimited salatim and laffa ,that are so delicious The mix grill is so good, you get skewers and shawarma. I REALLY recommend this place, because of The food and The really nice service ! (And so generous) 5⭐️

We came on the recommendation of a friend and we were very pleased. Ambience is casual, clean, no frills and plenty of seating. Watching the worker make the breads from scratch as you come in is a nice touch. Staff was very friendly and courteous and took the time to explain all the different dishes. The freshly-made laffa was a really nice treat - especially in an era when restaurants cut back on the "fresh bread basket" starter that was common only a short while ago. For starters we ordered the Appetizer Combo which included Falafel, Moroccan cigars, Chicken (egg)roll & Kibbeh. All were 10/10, although the falafel could have used a bit more of the cilantro and other seasoning you would expect in a falafel . Although this is a Middle-Eastern joint, and we should have gone for their specialty dishes (shawarma, kebobs, etc.) we went with burgers, schnitzel, and all the sides. The burgers hit the spot, although we would have wanted thicker patties. And the schnitzel was the best we have ever had: thin, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside; fried to perfection. 10/10! We will definitely be going back to try the Middle-Eastern dishes.

Google
First time here. Looked up yemenite soup. Soup was delicious though not much potatoes or meat inside. My son got the chicken wings. I gotta say they should have let the chickens grow a bit more. Almost zero meat This is ridiculous. 18 percent mandatory tip charge for party of ONE

Google
What an amazing experience!!! From start to finish this place is amazing. Food is magnificent. Customer service is amazing. The place is full completely and still they made the time and paid exalent attention to us and our needs

Google
From start to finish, I had an absolutely wonderful experience. The food was exceptional, and the service was truly top-notch. What really stood out to me was our server, Rosi. He was not only friendly and professional but also incredibly attentive without being overbearing. From the moment we were seated, Rosi made sure we felt welcomed and comfortable. He offered excellent recommendations and made sure our glasses were never empty. His positive energy and genuine care for our experience took our evening from great to unforgettable. If you’re lucky enough to have Rosi as your server. You’re in for an extra-special treat!

Yelp
I came here pre-pandemic on a trip to New York with my friends. There were 10 of us. We had just spent the day exploring Coney Island and we were starving. We ended up at Olympia Pita (formerly Olympic Pita) and it was just perfect. They were able to accommodate the large group just fine. Portions were very generous. It was a nice, casual environment. Everyone got laffa bread sandwiches. They are apparently known for their laffa bread. Most of the group got shawarma (every single one of the 8 guys). I lean more vegetarian so I got the falafel wrap. However, everyone who got the shawarma was raving about it so much that I am going to say that the shawarma is THE thing to order when you visit. The vegetarian options were slim. However, the vegetarian falafel wrap is delicious! Olympia Pita is a kosher (meat) Mediterranean restaurant. They also have soup on the menu which is unique for this type of restaurant but I love that it is an option. They serve Snapple, soda, and juice to drink. And, according to their website, they offer delivery and catering as well. If I'm in this area again, I wouldn't hesitate to return to Olympia Pita!

Yelp
Very Good Food! Came here with my wife and friends to eat before going to a show. We got Shawarma in the plate, shish kebabs and chicken schnitzel. The plates come with so many sides, from humus to eggplant salad, to rice and beans, insane hot and fresh home made lafa pita and more! The abundance of food and flavors were unbelievable. I left this restaurant more than satisfied..., I was exploding lol. Will definitely come back here.

Yelp
If you are looking for THE BEST kosher shawarma in Brooklyn, this is the place !!! The chicken shawarma is prepared with just the right ingredients. Expect nothing but the best preparation and delicious flavors. I highly recommend this place and in my opinion, this is the best kosher shawarma in Brooklyn !
google avatar

Brenda K.

Yelp
The huge pita was set before us after we ordered. It tasted amazing, tender, crispy and chewy all at the same time! We dipped pieces of it in the hummus and eggplant sides. Beef kabob was tender with a delicate charred flavor.

Ben M.

Yelp
There was a problem with my order, but they resent it, and that's very honorable. Very happy

Vivian S.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered dinner from Olympic pita. We ordered shish kebab which was small pieces of meat cubed, it was a very skimpy portion. Meat wasn't soft had to chew very well. It came with an Israeli salad that had no dressing on it. Overpriced at $35 We will not be ordering from there again.
google avatar

Chris N J.

Yelp
I loved the fries.... my husband hated everything, he said the sauce ruined it for him, I myself have Had better in other states, I couldn't eat mine either. it is so bitter. We won't be returning. don't be fooled by how delicious it looks like we were, they need to work on their sauce BAD!!

Ben G.

Yelp
Ordered a shawrma wrap* and came very very very soggy and mushy and not even wrapped just falling apart right off the bat* asked for some more anba sauce and got literally 1* and didn't taste good at allllll***** Do not order delivery from this place* only pick up or DINE IN* Otherwise food is not fresh and you don't get everything asked for*

Yelp
What a horrible experience. When we entered and supplied our Covid Vaccine information to the manager he told us we didn't need it, despite being the law here! The seating area was dirty, there were big pots of soaking beans left on the floor where young children were running around. We were going to leave when seeing this , but cautiously stayed. It was so blatant how we were discriminated against when it took the server over 30 minutes to take our order. Other patrons were being addressed in a friendly and swift manner. Perhaps because they were religious Jews as evidenced by yarmulkas and conservative attire. Food was average, very overpriced. A falafel sandwich with a salad after tax was over $20!!!!! Save your money, dignity and go elsewhere.

Rochelle R.

Yelp
My friend and I order Beef Shish, one skewer each and shared 2-sides. The beef pieces were tiny, difficult to chew and overdone. Difficult to remove from the skewer. We were not offered any of the complimentary salads. I felt like we were bothering them. Over priced, stingy and inefficient. I doubt I will return

Hadiya M.

Yelp
Came here yesterday for a quick lunch. Ordered the falafel sandwich on pita with tons of toppings: pickled red onion, cucumber, tomato, hot sauce, hummus, hot pickled peppers etc. Waited nearly 10 minutes for sandwich. Here's the breakdown: Pita- nice, fluffy, soft. Falafel- crunchy exterior soft interior but not mushy, a beige color, quite salty but there were like 5 or 6 in my sandwich so not bad Hummus- creamy and cooling Hot sauce- hot, really good almost burned my mouth kind of good Veggies- crispy, but also salty cause pickles, so overall mouthfeel was super salty I've had better falafel elsewhere and this sandwich left more to be desired.

Dalia E.

Yelp
I was here for a SheVa Bracha (Jewish party after a wedding) and the food was spectacular! First of all, they loaded us up with hummus and house made pita!! Lots of babaganush and purple and green coleslaw!! They had a lot of courses with lots of delicious food and drinks. Overall, I had a great time!

Yelp
I hadn't been here in years so decided to see how their shawarma was. The salad bar was clean, fresh, and well stocked. Shawarma wrap for $17 comes with a decent container for salad. Also, this place bakes their own wraps, and the taste is incredible. That's where the taste ends. The shawarma, while fresh, had the consistency and taste of boiled dark chicken. There was barely any flavor, maybe just a hint of salt. Whoever is marinating the chicken overnight is doing a horrible job, and this is one of their "signature" items. I'll come back in 5 years again to see if things have changed.

Yelp
This place is busy busy busy It's a very casual style and very kid friendly So be mindful if you like silence and don't like families. It's clean and there is wait service The wait service is running around since it's so busy.. So you won't get too much personal attention and will most likely have to wave down the waiter for everything. They have a nice variety on their menu with middle eastern classics like hummus, babganoush, falafel and various nosh. The meat was well prepared, but pricey, I guess since its kosher The falafel was yummy and so was the babaganoush, cabbage salads, and tahini sauce The shawarma with two sides was $25 The flavors were simple, home style food.
google avatar

Peter E.

Yelp
I'm not much for kosher food and we're vegetarian. While my 6-year-old wanted Chinese, that doesn't exist in this Midwood neighborhood unless you go all the way over to Nostrand. We were super-hungry and didn't feel like traveling. This looked good and fit the bill so we split pea soup, falafel balls, french fries, and plenty of their first-rate pita bread. Bill came to $19.60 plus mandatory 15% tip. Everything was fresh and filling, and the service was good. It reminded me of the restaurants my family and I visited in Israel. I wouldn't rush back, but for vegetarians it's a great , affordable option in a neighborhood not known for variety.

Yelp
So moving to Brooklyn from long island I was super excited to try some of the worlds most diverse and delicious foods! That was before Olympic pita... the food is insanely priced. How you ask? we ordered two chicken gyros off the menu and got charged $48... WTFFFFF! I could've had way better food with actual flavor and by flavor I mean they used salt pepper and maybe some vinegar. Holy cannoli this place is god awful. I get it if you have dietary limitations but I can't imagine that place being ranked decent in Brooklyn. I've definitely had better and I'm still annoyed I paid so much for such food.

Daniel C.

Yelp
Over priced trash with attitude. The owner doesn't know how to speak to customers and doesn't thank you after charging you $50 for garbage food you can pay $20 for anywhere else. Surprised this place is still open. Absolute joke
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
I picked up some shawarma from here the other night. It wasn't my first time either. Every time I touch their food I spend the next day singing the old Pepto Bismol jingle while chugging down the bottle. Other people I know have come out just fine, but eat at your own risk.
google avatar

Jacob S.

Yelp
I had excellent service and the salad bar was great. However, very expensive. $80 for repo friends for lunch. The newest want great (dry and tasteless). Mostly the price was just insane for what I received.
google avatar

Udi M.

Yelp
I totally in love with this place! Finally a good Shawarma in Lafa!!! Im from Washington DC and we don't have places like Olimpic Pita. They have such a variety of Israeli food. Good job Olimpic Pita
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Great place. Very clean, the salad bar is not your typical salad bar but filled with carrots and hot peppers, hummus, etc. I wanted a rib steak, but they were all out. I ordered the beef steak instead which was excellent. The food on the salad bar was at the proper temp and nice.
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
Olympic Pita place is a gem. Everything I got here was really good all around. The shwarma was very tasty and moist, without being too fatty or greasy. By far, they have the best falafel I've ever eaten, and the fact that they are bite sized was nice. The salad bar is great too, they have a lot more choices then I've seen in other places. It's also nice that they will put hummus and anything from the salad bar in your schwarma without charging you extra. That said, I've had better hummus. It's not bad, it's just not the best. Also, the pita and laffa seemed to be on the chewy side. I don't know if that's the way it always is or just the way I got it that one time. Regardless of those minor details, the food was so good, and the portions were so large, that I will gladly make this is my new falafel/schwarma place. Oh yeah, and just to reiterate, just in case you're still thinking about parking there--don't. Take the Q train or the B68, you'll be happy you did.
google avatar

Julius W.

Yelp
Service was good food was fresh and hot. Plenty of choices. And it has an A. Satisfied.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
Olympic pita is a great middle Eastern kind of steakhouse. Their service is great. The waiters are polite. They have a huge selection on their menu, and they also serve wine. Overall the food is amazing, and the seating is comfortable. It's a great place for takeout as well.
google avatar

Moshe M.

Yelp
Many many pictures of rabbis on the wall to make it positive...but the waiters looking @the customers like the baby is looking @ u from all sides of you & the cashier too,[no smile] drain look (as long it's kosher it should b this way)...best cameras to make sure you will not do anything wrong...food not bad but all sugar drinks in the refrigerator (from Israel)FUNERAL HOME @the corner who knows if the energy is not coming from there...
google avatar

Avihay O.

Yelp
They just changed their service from self serve to a full service restaurant. The very good thing about this place is that you can eat as much as you want from their great salad bar. The shawarma was good but not as hot as you would expect it to be served. Will definitely come again with my comments to the waitress before I order.
google avatar

Alon T.

Yelp
Best shawarma place in Brooklyn. Service is amazing, and the food is delicious. I recommend the hummus and the rib steak, thank me later.
google avatar

Tal O.

Yelp
Came here on a lazy Sunday to eat shawarma in a pita. We walked in and were greeted very nicely - we ordered and were given plates to take from their unlimited salad bar. I had the fried eggplant and fried onions with tehina. So good. The shawarma itself was just warm not piping hot this time. But it's usually good. I also usually have it in a laffa, but got it in a pita to mix it up. Which was also nice .. This is a definite go-to spot in Bk for shawarma and falafel (&sit down dinners) .. They also have a great bean soup that I love. The atmosphere is ok and the food is good! I will be back.
google avatar

Fred N.

Yelp
They have great salads and bread, and some food too ;) For me, the salads (Without taking from the quality of the main course) were the best part of eating here. The place is very nice and welcome (It is surprising when you look from outside and entering for the first time). Many Jewish customers if not all of them. But even if you are not a kosher eater, this place still worth a visit. If you like Mediterranean food, you are going to like it. My personal opinion is that their prices are a bit expensive, but my friend told me that this is part of servicing kosher food.
google avatar

Jonathan S.

Yelp
There is no soap in the bathroom. The food is greasy and gross. The regular burger plate comes with 2 burgers for $25.99, while the kids burger comes with one for $8.99. The yeshiva where they went to school must not have had a math requirement. I feel like this was a horrible rip off. Is food still kosher if you buy it from a ganif?
google avatar

Haim M.

Yelp
Bad service rude employees specially the waitress shes not nice and very cold i dont want to eat there anymore if I could give less then 1 star I would. Disappointed discussed and very unsatisfied!
google avatar

Walker A.

Yelp
Overpriced and unfriendly staff. Even if you get the special it's not enough food for one person. The counter people don't speak English and are very busy appear overworked The food is good but you never get your money's worth
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
Eh. Too expensive for what it is if you ask me. I was sick one evening and hungry and thought a chicken kebab would be a good idea. I ordered delivery from this place. For $20 and almost an hour wait I received the following 5 little scrawny pieces of chicken breast 2 tasteless pitas some cold droopy french fries a container with coleslaw, israeli salad, and fried eggplant a can of diet coke RIPOFF The chicken was tasty, but it wasn't even a half a chicken breast in there! Seriously. And the fries were absolutely nasty. I guess that's to be expected for delivery fries, but still. The fried eggplant and coleslaw were good too, but not good enough to justify the pricetag. Ridiculous.
google avatar

Jackie L.

Yelp
My favorite falafel/shwarma pitas in Brooklyn. The falafels are just crispy enough, the shwarma meat just fatty enough, but my favorite thing there is their salad bar. Its the largest, freshest (hands down), most authentic, simple, delcious, cleanest salad bar I've found. Their tahini is my favorite also and you can have as much or as little of it as you want for no extra charge. I took one star off because the containers they gave you to fil up on your salad are kind of small and you can onyl have as much salad as you can firt into the tiny container they give you. Parking is a pain... well because there never is any. Your best bet is to go by foot or have someone sit in the car.
google avatar

Jack F.

Yelp
Olympic Pita has been consistently bringing a taste of Israel to Brooklyn. The Schwarma is by far the best I've tasted outside Israel. It has subtle undertones of lamb and is very well seasoned without being overdone. The Laffas are simply incredible. Baked fresh to order in a stone oven, they are thick and plump and almost melt in your mouth. On orders to go, you're given a plastic container to fill up with an array of tasty salads. Be sure to get the Amba sauce, but apply with caution... it's got kick. Parking sucks usually, and the staff is Israeli and very nonchalant.. but hey, I take my orders to go and Olympic Pita delivers! Oh and btw, I wouldn't eat there. The crowd oftentimes is ghetto and loud and makes for unpleasant vibes.
google avatar

Matthew L.

Yelp
Olympic Pita is Brooklyn kosher at it's BEST. Let's get things straight to begin with; this is a SCHWARMA AND FALAFEL place, don't come in here ordering burgers, schnitzel, or any other of these Middle Eastern no-gos that you'll see on the menu. The schwarma here is fatty, juicy, and succulent, without a doubt the best you're bound to find in Brooklyn. It's like they took the meat straight from Tel Aviv and served it here. You can go with a pita if you'd like, but the fresh baked lafa bread is where it's at. The salad bar will blow your mind, make sure to heap it all on there. Don't forget to load up your schwarma with the good stuff, eggplant, fries, tahina, the works. It may be a little pricy if youv'e ever lived in Israel, but considering you're in the States, it's a sure deal. Just keep in mind you can't roll in here on Saturdays and that it closes a bit early on Friday, so if you want it on Friday, make sure to get goin early. Olympic Pita: Wub

Yelp
The owners are incredibly rude. Wouldn't recommend. Learn how to treat other people with respect before calling yourself a successful business owner.
google avatar

Prince M.

Yelp
The WORST shawarma and falafels I ever tasted. Not kidding you. I was craving falafels all week. Looked up "best falafel in Brooklyn" and someone on Chowhound stated that I should try Olympic Pita. I drove all the way there and boy what a disappointment it was! The shawarma meat smelled and did not taste like beef or lamb or whatever meat it was. It tasted like rubber and had zero flavor. The falafel balls were not soft on the inside and crispy on the outside like the real israeli ones should be. Instead, they were hard on the outside and very hard and flavorless inside. Thank goodness for the tahini sauce that helped me digest them. Unfortunately, the prices at this establishment are very high - and the foods don't deserve these high prices at all. I will surely not be purchasing from here again.
google avatar

Shimmy B.

Yelp
Super tasty food and very good service . Got served by Danny. He's really amazing and friendly. The schwarma is heaven. The lamb chops really good. There were not too many options for dessert.

Yelp
First let me say this review is long overdue and management may have changed since my unpleasant experience at this branch.... I was introduced to this place by my Jewish boss who wanted my to try a "Shuwama" (spellcheck) which I admit was very tasty. Truth be told I have no gripe with the food but rather the blatant display of racism I was dealt with considering that I'm Black. Now before anyone think this is just another Black person whining about trivialities let me state that I take no pleasure in this and I'm not doing it for any nefarious purpose. It was my boss who again made dinner arrangements for me and my gf with the intention of joining us a bit later. When I got there the place looked half full and of course I told the manager who quickly came to my assistant of my need for a table. He subsequently told me there was no table available as what seemed obvious were in fact booked and the patrons would soon be there. I then decided to order "take out" as the plans seem to have been a bad idea after all due to poor timing. Apologizing the manager quickly took my order personally and made sure that I left quickly. Twenty minutes later my boss accompanied by his wife showed up with no problems being accommodated. He then called to inquire about why I didn't stay/waited. He could not understand considering that by then the place was almost empty as more people left without any coming in. For the sake of brevity the following day my boss called to talk to the manager whom he knew personally. On speakerphone I heard him telling my boss that we ( my Gf and I) looked like the mafia and people seemed uncomfortable with us being in there. Clearly what seemed like an expeditious service was designed to quickly get rid of me. Of course being a regular guy who have never ever gotten a parking ticket I need not say how offensive this felt considering that I even tip the Spanish workers who prepared my order. I vow NEVER TO EVER set foot in this place again. Good luck if you are Black and crave their food.
google avatar

Marc P.

Yelp
Olympic Pita (Coney Island) was advertising their services on GrubHub.com, so I called them up to try and order a shawarma. The guy on the phone told me that I'd have to pay for the food AND the car service to deliver the food to me. How stupid is that? This guy had the audacity to tell a customer to pay for FOOD and TRANSPORTATION of the delivery guy. I've never written a Yelp review before, but this pr*ck really set me off. I hope these guys get bad business.
google avatar

Lior T.

Yelp
I just look around , and I find this place Olympic pita It's was a great place and kosher , I'm definitely go there again
google avatar

Erez E.

Yelp
Great place. I ate there shawarma in laffa and it was delicious. There is a good selection of salads. All salads are fresh and tasty. Will definitely come back here. Thank you
google avatar

Rikki K.

Yelp
The best schwarama I've ever tried. Try it in a laffa for authentic taste! Comes with a salad -- you can choose from any of fifteen salads. Get fried onions, fried eggplant, Israeli salad and pickles in your separate salad. I think it came out to about $15 total for takeout order. Quick service. In and out in about ten minutes. Tip: When ordering to go, go straight to the man by the register. Tell him you're ordering to go and he'll give you a receipt that you take to the front counter by the salads. There, you tell the workers what you want.
google avatar

Danny G.

Yelp
I'm not giving this one star on the mere basis that maybe they had an off day. A lot of restaurants do.... some don't (like Peter Luger's or Momoun's). The menu is pretentiously overpriced. For the taste and quality of the food, they should cut their prices in half. I waited over 15 minutes for shawarma, and let me tell you, it was the worst shawarma I've tried in New York. Service is so-so, I can't say much, because I came when it was very slow. The decor is decent enough, but again, this is about the food. And it just doesn't do it here. Best thing about this place was the freshly baked laffas.
google avatar

Aviad M.

Yelp
The food here is excellent the Sharma I had tops the ones I had living in Maryland! Its aTaste of Israel wish we had an Olympic Pita near us! See you next visit :)
google avatar

Lee M.

Yelp
One of my favorite foods is shawarma .a few weeks ago I have ordered from them and I had to pay for the taxi to deliver it. I opened the shawarma and I could not chew it.......they burned it .I called them and the girl on the phone told me "Come take a new one"....Well, I think it is obvious that if I could go there I wouldn't make a phone order from the beginning. i think for the money you pay there you deserve better than that. Anyways, I would go to other places in Brooklyn to eat shawarma.
google avatar

Misha B.

Yelp
Last night. I tried that restaurant. They gave us their nice larva bread and pickles to start. Baba ghanoush with baby chicken grilled on a spit was nice combination. It was delicious, staff are friendly and greeting on entering and upon exit. Good experience, will try again.
google avatar

Eric A.

Yelp
Olympic Pita won't disappoint. It's a modest grill, fresh dishes and a friendly staff. I'd definitely come back.
