The Best Restaurants in Portland, Oregon’s North Tabor Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"This neighborhood pizza joint is a nice fit for dog owners with its dog-friendly outdoor patio and pooch-inspired past; it’s named after owners Jim and Nell Fisher’s first adopted dog, Oly. North Tabor residents can chill with their canine pals over customized, build-your-own pies or try one of the house signatures, like the pesto sauce, mozzarella, mushroom, and roasted garlic Gilead or the tomato-based Wright Bros with Italian sausage, pepperoni, green peppers, and red onions. Slices are available for a bite on the go, and pizza-of-the-moment specialties pop up throughout the year — think hot-honey-drizzled pies topped with butternut squash and caramelized onion. Grab a side of “bones” (aka seasoned focaccia strips) or a salad to round things out." - Zoe Baillargeon

A Guide to Portland’s New Pizza Shops | Eater Portland

"In the former Tannery Bar space, Jim and Nell Fisher are sticking to a New York-adjacent approach at Oly’s Pizza, producing thin pies topped with classic combinations informed by their East Coast ethos and years running a pizzeria in Vermont; try the Wright Bros with pepperoni, Italian sausage, green peppers, and onions." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
Okay so if your looking for the best gluten free crust on a pizza no one compares to this place. My wife and I have tried many places for her. We finally found the best. I got my self a Gilead and she ordered a build your own gluten free. We also tried the Greek salad they don't skimp on anything with their salads.

Heather P.

Google
This a great cozy spot with good pizza at a reasonable price. The thin crust is crispy and tasty - i like that you can request a level of doneness if you prefer extra crispy! The sauce is my favorite part i think and all around quality ingredients and toppings. The owners are super nice. It has because a favorite spot and we look forward to checking out the patio when nice weather season returns! Salads and breadsticks are also tasty with generous portions and reasonable prices in a landscape of very pricey pizza spots.

**Gluten-Free** FINALLY. I get to have garlic cheese sticks again!! While the pizza was a bit cold due to delivery in winter, it reheated perfectly. My wife's family was in town so I ordered GF Cheese Sticks, a GF Bacon-pineapple-green pepper, and a regular crust Dillon. It was all delicious according to our guests. I could eat these cheese sticks all day and I didn't get sick. My wife and I worked in a pizza restaurant when we met and I loved getting to eat cheesy bread again. We'll be back to eat your entire menu.

Google
I’ve really been stupid for not dropping in here sooner! Fantastic thin NY style pizza, great crust, toppings and sauce! Great slice price…. Might have found my new go-to!

Shoochie “Shpidoinkle” B.

Google
Best pizza in Portland and I'll take that opinion to my grave. Incredible flavor, always cooked to perfection. 10/10 no notes. They make their own ranch that is more addicting than crack. I swear I would sell my firstborn for a tub of it. If youre considering this place stop considering and order a pie or slice already.

Isaac

Google
The most underrated pizza joint in Portland as far as I’m concerned. Their signature pies have some truly delicious options and the specials are adventurous and creative. The space is chill and unassuming, the patio is cozy. Cannot recommend them enough.

When I walked in the door of Oly's, before I had a chance to look around, I was greeted by the same smell that I grew up with 50 years ago in my local pizza place in Massachusetts. The owners of came to Portland after extensive restaurant experience in Vermont, so I'm thrilled that both myself and the folks from Oly's have made our way to the east side of the Willamette at the same time. The 'Dillon' pie (sausage, roasted garlic, mozzarella and ricotta) was my introduction to their kitchen, and I suspect that it may take several more trips before I'm able to try anything else - good sausage was one of the main things I had a hard time finding when I first came to Portland, so I'm always delighted to find it nearby. The Oly's web site indicates that they may expand their hours to include lunch, and I look forward to that option, particularly since they sell both whole pies, and also make their creations available by the slice. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Google
Best pepperoni pizza in town. Only 2.50 a slice ot get the pizza of the week is always super interesting and delicious. Lovely people great patio.

Yelp
All pizza is one size. 16". Except for gluten free which is 12". Three bases; garlic, pesto and tomato. So , having said that , I chose a tomato base on both of my pies. Pepperoni and a combo. New York style. When I got them home , they did not last past 40 minutes. Gone. Very good pizzas. I will always support local businesses. Small inside. Sodas in fridge and a few beers on tap. They have wi fi , too.

Yelp
I'm upgrading this place to 5 stars after trying the top ~20 or so rated places in Portland. Best Pesto pizza in town! Also, you can't beat the service or value, especially on the slices! Really friendly and wonderful staff, very friendly neighborhood vibe. I genuinely love coming here even if it's just for a couple slices on my way home.

Yelp
Dang I really wanted to like this place. It's very conveniently located across the street from the QFC where I shop. The building itself is adorable. Even its name is charming. I have been meaning to stop there for a while and finally did. The building interior is as cool-looking as the outside. The staff are friendly and helpful. I bought a t-shirt right away! And a pizza to go. Unfortunately the pizza is nothing to write home about or to go back for. The crust is unremarkable -- and in a town like this there's no reason to put up with it. The toppings seemed interesting but didn't have much flavor -- maybe both the crust and toppings lack salt? I tried adding salt and red pepper but that wasn't enough to save the pizza from mediocrity. I see some positive reviews here, so maybe you will disagree with me and enjoy this pizza. But I would say if you're a pizza connoisseur, look elsewhere.

Yelp
Love love love this spot. It's down the street from the house first time actually trying this pizza spot and I am happy I did. Pizza is amazing! My new go to pizza spot. Family owned and they are extremely friendly. The crust was super tasty, love the marinara sauce and perfect amount of toppings. We will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
What a great little shop. I'm so glad we stopped in for a pie today. Not sure if the fella that served us was the owner or not, but he was friendly and pleasant, and made a delicious pizza. The dough on the pizza is incredible, idk how to describe it other than to say it was crisp on the outside and super soft inside, basically perfection. We got the pizza of the moment, not sure there is a name for it, but it was covered in strange deliciousness. Onions, mozzarella, pickled kale, and a garlic oil base -- mmmmm. So weird and so good. The kids got cheese and pepperoni slices because they are all flavor-challenged and stick to the basics instead of exploring all the amazing new flavors in this wild pizza world we live in. Oh! We also got a dry cider that definitely sipped more like a sour beer. Luckily, I like sours so this was good to me. The shop is pretty small, dog friendly but there were no dogs today. There are a few small tables and chairs, but no more than say, 7-8 people can fit inside. I think I read that they have outdoor seating as well but we didn't check it out. I really like this pizza place. The combinations all sound delicious and the fact that we could get a cold alcoholic beverage from the tap was just great! I recommend coming by if you are craving some delicious pizza pie!

Yelp
Friendly service, delicious pizza, and a dog-friendly back porch. I love getting slices here because the specials are always delicious with combos I would never think to try myself.

Yelp
Tiny little pizza spot with super cheap yet delicious pizza. Even the bottles of Reeds extra ginger beer were a great price. If you haven't tried them, do! Loved that there wasn't too much crust and too little toppings. The crust was perfect, the toppings deliciously salty and crisped edges on the peperoni, perfect. As for ambiance... I was there for the fast, affordable pizza and the Reeds extra ginger beer was just bonus. Great grab while strolling and shopping. Not for big groups to dine-in.

Yelp
3/30 So far so good. $2.75 slice. Wonder fresh pizza. I met my pizza makers 'face' for the first time today (removed mask). WOW she is gorgeous!!!!!! The End

Yelp
Thank goodness for independent, unpretentious locally owned and operated pizza places. Tried Oly's for the first time on this scorching hot day and have nothing to say but good things about this place. Online ordering to go was easy, it was nice and cool inside with a nice vibe waiting for the pies to come hot out of the oven and a nice guy who happened to be the owner making the pies. The crust! So so good. Edges bouncy, chewy and cooked to perfection. Generous, good quality, good flavor toppings. Good prices. Glad we finally tried Oly's and will be back again and again now that we know.
google avatar

Yelp
The pizzas are amazingly well finished. The Caprese salad is my favorite. You can't go wrong.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
Oly's makes a solid Neapolitan pizza with a really good, sturdy crust. I was told about Oly's by my brother and his girlfriend. They've gotten several pizzas from them, and being that she is from Vermont, like the owners, and the fact that they keep going back says something. My brother and I can be quite the pizza snobs. A Jersey thing. So, I went simple and got a roasted garlic pizza. It was well balanced from the cheese, to the crust, to the sauce and the roasted cloves of garlic everywhere. Reminded me a little of the pizza place I grew up with in New Jersey. It was delicious and I will totally make it back there soon. It's kind of nice that so many newer pizza spots are all popping up in Portland with ties to the east coast. Just more reasons to never have to go back east, especially in our current times. Support local. Enjoy.
google avatar

Laurie C.

Yelp
I was happy when I discovered a pizza-by-the-slice place directly on my way home from work! Oly's slices are delicious and fresh, and they have daily specials. My only kvetch is that their slices are on the small side compared to other places I've frequented. They do a delicious Caesar salad-I am very picky about Caesars, and a good one is hard to find. They have a lovely outdoor seating area that is dog friendly, and the staff are very nice. It's a small place, pretty tight inside, so I recommend getting your meal to go if you're not planning to eat outside.

Yelp
Order the Wright pizza, it was our first time trying Oly's and the pizza was amazing taste and the smell of deliciousness!! Definitely will b back!!

Matt H.

Yelp
Plain and simple, one of the best (the best in my opinion) pizza joints in Portland! I love it that they sell by the slice. My favorite pizza is the Wright Bros, my mouth is watering just thinking about it right now.

Yelp
I've been to Oly's several times and love it! Last night I got a margherita pizza and it was fantastic. Love their pizza and their whole vibe and theme.
google avatar

Demi T.

Yelp
Got pizza for takeout and ordered a pepperoni and a build your own. On the build your own I had red sauce, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and ricotta and it was soooo good. The crust was thin and crunchy with the perfect amount of little charred bits. The person I spoke to over the phone who took my order was very sweet and was accurate on the timing for our order so we didn't have to wait at all when we picked it up. I wouldn't say I'm super picky about pizza sauce but there's definitely a kind of sauce that I appreciate. This sauce was tangy and bright, just how I like it. That in tandem with a good crust is enough reason for me to come back.
google avatar

Aric R.

Yelp
Very good pizza and an endearing Portland vibe. A plus is the Nintendo set up to play.

James O.

Yelp
Visted Portland on a trip from Socal. We visited this spot on a Sunday night. Small corner shop in a residential area of outer Portland in Laurelhurst. They have limited hours and upon arrival appeared to just be the owner/operator. We have a make our own 16" pizza with tomato base, mozzarella, half pepperoni, full bacon, pineapple and ricotta cheese. Very well made pizza, pineapple could have been sweeter would be our only critique. Wife got a Caesar Salad and loved it. Highly suggest if in the area and only needing during their operating hours of 4-8 pm.

Sharque A.

Yelp
This would be my nomination for best pizza in Portland. Charming little neighborhood pizzeria‍
google avatar

Chad H.

Yelp
They did a great job on the pizza, and even spread anchovies evenly over it for me. Thanks again, and u will be back for going above and beyond.
google avatar

Sammy T.

Yelp
I might be a bit spoiled living directly across from East Glisan, but we weren't terribly impressed with Oly's pizza and certainly not at this price point. Our initial take-away was that everything was generally lacking in the flavor department. Pizzas were fine, but nothing exciting and more on par with run-of-the-mill pizza joints in town. Crust was nice and thin, but floppy and not crispy. Caesar salad dressing was quite bland and could use more lemon and anchovy. Again, it's not that Oly's pizza wasn't good at all. It's just that at $70+ for 3 pies, I'm definitely expecting more for the money.
google avatar

K. R.

Yelp
Would return if in the area. Outside seating, great pizza. Nice people. Gilead is delicious! Also did vegetarian garlic and sausage.

Lawrence F.

Yelp
There are a lot of sub-par pizza joints in Portland, but Oly's is one of the best. On the east side I rate Bella and Oly's as some of the best, crust-focused pizza in town. Anyone can throw toppings down, but the crust is what defines the pizza, and Oly's is thin, crisp, and the outer crust is pillowy, tender, crispy, and if you're lucky, blistered. Love the people, love the place.

Jim M.

Yelp
Great pizza with fast service. wish they opened sooner in the day for lunch. Friendly staff
google avatar

Yelp
Just moved into the neighborhood a couple weeks ago and had been wanting to try this weird little neighborhood pizza joint since I moved. Today was the the day and they did not disappoint. Myself and my folks are pretty tough w/ are pizza expectations and when we bit into our pizza it was nothing but praise. What a fantastic, quirky little place. Jim and Nell were very nice, pizza outstanding and cold beer to boot. Super happy being 4 blocks away and I'll certainly be seeing them again!
google avatar

Neil O.

Yelp
Best pizza I've had in Portland. They also serve slices which is awesome. Good prices.
google avatar

Yelp
WE love OLY's! this has become our neighborhood spot! We can walk there- grab a pizza or slice and walk home! It is lovely! The people that own this place are incredible and kind! Can't wait to have a beer again with them!
google avatar

Tim B.

Yelp
This review is based on two experiences. I love the pizza and the people are awesome. Tonight we had buffalo cheese bread and it was sublime. The pizzas we've tried were delicious. There was a minor snafu on our first order and they more than made it right without being asked. Can't wait for more.

Dustin L.

Yelp
Amazing pizza! Had to pickup a order and it being a longer wait time they hooked me up with a free slice. Awesome people and great place!

Love The East Sid E.

Yelp
We love Oly's, we get pizza there every Friday night. The owners are super friendly and the pizza is outstanding. Baby doll used to be our go-to pizza, best in town, but now we go to Oly's. They are closer, but they are also better, or at least just as good. One night due to miscommunication we brought home cheese pizza from Oly's and Baby Doll, so we did a blind taste test and Oly's won! Great Caesar dressing as well, my other key metric for a good pizza place.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
They're new and subject to change... so, take this with a grain of salt, but first experience as a neighbor to the restaurant was great. Nice folks, a pretty tasty (interesting, not just pepperoni or not) pizza, a decent beer, a commitment to garlic (keep the faith), and the lack of the typical Portland-hipster vibe that's in style. The Tannery was pretty cool, but times change, and Oly's looks like a solid stand-by for dinner.
google avatar

Jody T.

Yelp
25Jan20 @ 5:15pm We had a Dillon delivered. Pizza arrived on time and still warm. Could have used a little more sausage. The sauce layer was tasty. Decent pizza with a nice crust.
google avatar

Denise H.

Yelp
We really needed a break from home cooking and doing all our own slicing and dicing. We went online last week and ordered a Wright Bros plus tomatoes. The online ordering was easy and I was able to specify the pick-up time. When I drove up, there was easy parking right in front (thank you 'shelter-in-place'), and the pizza was piping hot and ready right on time. They obviously planned it for the pick-up time, rather than making it early and keeping it hot. Most importantly, when we got home and started eating, it was absolutely delicious! Flavorful, plenty of toppings but not overdone, and the crust was thin in the main part and soft and pillowy on the outsides. We highly recommend their pizza! The only downside? They're not open every day, so make sure you get your pizza craving on a Wed. - Sun.

Daniel M.

Yelp
Excellent sausage pizza! Sturdy crust, not too thin, not to thick. Great sauce, almost like some kind of upscale Papa Johns thing, but obviously way better. Perfect cheese amount. I was scared about the sausage. It's more crumbled than uninformed chunks. This is a hard one to pull off, but I do believe I have a new favorite sausage pie in Portland town. Easy to order online, order was ready right on time. Thanks so much!
google avatar

Jane's G.

Yelp
Good God this is good food. Got the recommendation from my tattoo artist Jason Bradbury at Flatiron Tattoo. Finally ordered it up - pepperoni and a Cesar salad. Cesar was perfect! Not too garlicky and homemade croutons with fatty shaves of Parm! The pizza crust is light and chewy and the pepperoni is juicy. Fresh cheese and flavorful sauce. I mean... who eats the whole salad before even Taking a bite of pizza?!? NO-ONE. But my wife and I did. That is the ONLY reason this pizza isn't gone in the pic. Thanks for moving to the NW guys.

Josh S.

Yelp
Oly's does pizza right! The dough makes for an amazing amalgamation of thin, cushiony, yet sturdy--to serve as the foundation for A+ sauce, cheese and toppings. All those coming together in a spot-on ratio for the sort of pizza that you could just keep eating and eating...and eating. Not quite NY style, not quite New Haven. Hand tossed, perhaps? Whatever moniker you give it, the end result is "delicious". Their house combos haven't done us wrong, whether a classic like the Wright Bros (just polished one off the other day...with a single slice leftover that was brought beautifully back to life in the air fryer) or something a bit more snazzy like our favorite the Green Mountain. Primo pies from a genuine neighborhood joint inspired by human's best friend... gotta love it!
google avatar

Courtney C.

Yelp
Our Airbnb was nearby do we did a quick Yelp search for pizza. Oly's was the closest and they accepted orders online with an easy to use platform. Mere minutes later our pizzas and salad were ready for pick up. Boy oh boy we're those pizzas delicious. We got the cesar, the basic salad, and three various pizzas. The margarita was the crowd pleaser but the pepperoni was simple and tasty and kid approved. Pleasantly surprised to have such quality food nearby. How lucky!
google avatar

Yelp
We love Oly's... our new favorite pizza spot! Tonight was our third visit in a month, and it was as excellent as our two previous visits. Our favorite pizza is the tomato base with spinach and mushrooms. The crust is thin, light, crispy on the outside and quite tasty, plus all the ingredients and toppings taste so fresh and full of flavor. I've also had the Caesar Day Salad twice - once take out and once in the restaurant, I and loved it both times. The dressing is tangy, delicious and just the right amount tossed in. There's lots more to choose from on the menu, creative items and build your own. On top of all that, the staff is warm, friendly and welcoming. We met Nell tonight - one of the owners - and she is delightful. Our server was also attentive making sure we had everything we needed. We love this place so much we've made plans to bring friends here very soon!

Yelp
What a nice treat to find this fabulous pizza place while passing through Portland! The pizza by the slice was incredible, and gave the opportunity to try multiple pizza types created from their fresh homemade dough and premium toppings. In addition to incredible pizza, Oly's also offers local brews and great starters including bread sticks and a generous hummus platter. If you're anywhere in the area, I strongly recommend dropping in.

E. S.

Yelp
Delicious home-made Caesar dressing, and a huge portion. The pizza is awesome. It has a friendly and comfortable atmosphere with outdoor seating. I love the fact there is pizza by-the-slice too.
google avatar

Miss F.

Yelp
Yes!! My family back in Portland has found a new pizza to love and I introduced them. They were in a pizza rut but I snapped them out of it with a couple of simple, well crafted pies. The folks were super nice when we picked up our order and the prices were extra right. I was going to have cold pizza for breakfast the next day but somebody midnight snacked me out of it. Next time....sigh...
google avatar

Isabelle Nicolas B.

Yelp
Finally made our way in for an on-the-go pizza. Goodness gracious, delicious! Delovely pesto without being a green smush and the Wright Bro's? Yeah, that's happening again. So fab to have you in our 'hood, Oly's!
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
The most loving and genuine people own and work here!! The pizza is that perfect combo of nicely toasted-crunchy on top and fluffy inside. The cheese is even perfectly toasted! They also have dog treats made on site, cute stickers, and great hand-sewn masks!
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Great phone service! Friendly team, the environment is warm and welcoming. Awesome to see the whole kitchen and pizzas coming out fast. Great beer selection, too! Help support local business!!
google avatar

Sarah R.

Yelp
This is somewhere between a 4 and a 5...but it's seriously good pizza! So glad it's in the neighborhood. We got delivery of a 16" pepperoni and a Wright Bros (pepperoni, Italian sausage, green pepper, red onions). My kids are quite picky about pizza (one likes Baby Doll pizza the most, the other likes Hot Lips the most and both complain when the other gets their choice for pizza night) but we ALL agreed Oly's was good. Oly's will probably go in the rotation more often than the other two for the sake of family harmony. I would have liked to try a salad but no one else in my family would eat it (sigh) so that will be for another time. I was glad to see that they also sell all-purpose and high-gluten flour for dough...I will remember that if I can't find it in stores.

Madison H.

Yelp
Great pizza, great variety!! Great service honestly some of the best pizza I've had in Portland. Really crisp crust
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
You guys are 3 for 3 thus far. Excellent thin crust pizza, the Dillon, Green Mt. and now the Wright Bros... all bomb. Quality ingredients and quality service, I should just have them keep my card in file!
google avatar

Dyanne G.

Yelp
We finally made it over to Oly's last night. It's nice to have a good thin crust "NY" style pizza within a 2 block radius. I didn't realize they had slices (they need to make this a bit bigger on their menu) but I had heard from a neighbor that they did. They had 3 vegetable and 3 meat selections available and hubby and I had a slice of The Floyds and Dillion. The Dillon was nice with whole garlic cloves on it, but The Floyds was fantastic with the red onion really bringing out the flavors of the sauce. The crust is crispy on the edges (as thin crust should be) and the bottom bendable if that's your thing. The slice is very generous and they do a $1 off HH from 4-5 and 8-9. They had 4 beers on draft that including a good Red, Pilsner, IPA and Porter and some other more quirky beverage choices. There's some seating inside (about the same as the previous occupant) and they have decorated it in a nice casual way showing their Vermont roots. I think this is a nice addition to our neighborhood and look forward to some lunch openings as well in the future

Yelp
New Favorite! Just got a perfectly cooked beautiful Pizza. The cheese to sauce ratio is spot on. The sauce deliciously tangy and not overly seasoned. Perfect amount of cheese. The crust was crispy yet chewy, yum. These folks are pizza pros. If you're looking for a new pizza spot, check them out!
