"This establishment is run by Chef Luís Moreira and his partner, Ana Silveira, who recently left a small village to venture into urban life in Porto — and there is no doubt they have been warmly welcomed. They both aim to share their experiences in the different cities where they have lived, including Germany (hence the name of the restaurant, meaning “grandmother” in German). The chef offers a style of cooking that blends local produce with modern techniques, imparting a personal flair. Here, a journey of flavours is guaranteed, beginning with Asia (a destination the chef hopes to explore) via one of the appetisers: a cone filled with tuna and wasabi ice cream. It then heads to Portugal, featuring Iberian pork served with figs, and concludes in the Azores, with a dessert of pineapple, pink peppercorns and passion fruit." - Michelin Inspector

We had a great experience at this restaurant. The Menu Roots is very well thought out, with creative combinations and excellent flavors. Every dish was delicious, and you can really feel the care and attention in each course. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. They explain every dish clearly, tell you the best order to eat it, and how to enjoy it properly, which makes the whole experience even better. Overall, amazing food, great service, and a very pleasant atmosphere. We loved everything and would definitely come back.

Probably the best meal I've ever had, both food wise and service wise. Both our waiter and waitress were lovely. Helpful, descriptive of the food, friendly and personable. We had the set menu which was sensational and a lot of fun to experience. My personal favourite was the cured prawn tom kha gai, my boyfriend was a big fan of the octopus. We’re both chefs so it was very nice that the head chef came over afterwards, his food simply is inspiring. Id like to thank both the kitchen team and the front of house team for a wonderful time and an exceptional meal, it was an incredible food experience

My review refers to the executive menu you can have at lunch during the week Just by eating this you can tell this is an absolute top notch place The focaccia and butter as couvert were incredible, nothing I can even comment. The cauliflower soup was probably the best soup I have ever had, it was soooo smooth. The bread veal steak with parmesan and pasta with tomato sauce were also really nice To end the halzenut icream with chocolate mousse, you can guess, were also just incredible. 16eur for this, makes it, for me, the best place for lunch in porto during the week

We had the menu and wine pairing and were astonished. Its a cozy Place with charming stuff and owners. Its a real pearl among the competetive landscape of Porto's gastronomic scene. A clear recommendation to book a table, if you want to enjoy great fusion food of portugese and international influence paired with a fair priced wine selection of french nd portugese wines. Keep up the great work!

We came right at opening, and it was a bit warm at first… but they’d thoughtfully placed a hand fan on the table, which was a cute touch. As the evening went on, the room cooled down and the atmosphere settled into something really pleasant. We had the tasting menu, and I went with the wine pairing. Every course was a delight. From the playful Chef’s Snacks to the beautifully balanced desserts, each dish was well-executed and full of flavor. Everything worked - the textures, the seasoning, the presentation. I enjoyed it so much that I stopped overanalyzing and just savored each bite. An experience worth repeating.

One of my top 3 tasting menu experiences so far! Service was stellar and attentive, and the dishes were packed with umami and flavour bursts that kept surprising me throughout the night. It really felt like a journey from start to finish. Totally get why this place has a Michelin Bib. I wouldn't be surprised if it got 1 star in the future. Totally worth the 80 EUR/pp. Make sure you make reservations.
