A Streamlined Spot for Affordable and Tasty Hand Rolls
The new Omakai Hand Roll Bar recently opened with a concept that is all about focus. This restaurant is entirely counter seating, making it less ideal for large groups but perfect for walk-ins and quick dining.
The Menu:
The menu is devoted to hand rolls, with a few sashimi options. Custom hand rolls are priced around $7-8 each, but the real value lies in the preset menus, where each hand roll averages about $5. Depending on your appetite, you can easily dine for around $20 with a preset menu or closer to $30 if you go the custom route. This competitive pricing is one of Omakai's key attractions.
During our visit, we tried around 7 different hand rolls, including vegan options. While the fish wasn't the freshest or highest quality I've ever had, it was more than good enough for the price. Each roll delivered on flavor and offered a solid variety of options to explore.
The Downside:
The one issue we encountered was the construction of the hand rolls. They weren't built as sturdily as expected, making them difficult to eat without falling apart. This detracted slightly from the overall experience.
Final Thoughts:
Omakai Hand Roll Bar is a streamlined spot to enjoy some tasty hand rolls at an affordable price. It's not the place for a long, leisurely meal, but if you're looking for good hand rolls and quick service, it's a great choice.
My Criteria:
5 stars: The best food I have ever had, or an excellent option given the price.
4 stars: Good food, a restaurant I look forward to trying again.
3 stars: Good food, a restaurant that I am indifferent to.
2 stars: Below average experience, will not go again.
1 star: This restaurant should be closed.
