White Castle Is Now Serving Bleeding, Meatless Impossible Burgers in Detroit - Eater Detroit

"A worker at another metro Detroit restaurant has been diagnosed with hepatitis A. The employee worked at the Omelette & Waffle Cafe in Plymouth, but according to authorities they were not a food handler. The restaurant voluntarily closed Tuesday for cleaning and health officials are urging patrons who visited the business between August 17 and September 4 to get vaccinated by September 18. The news comes amid an ongoing epidemic of hepatitis A in the region." - Brenna Houck

If I would’ve read the recent reviews I definitely would not have gone. Just look for the review about the cockroach in a baby seat and all of the bigotry- and no comment from the owners on that is scary. The portion sizes, quality and service were definitely not worth the price. Paid $5 for a side of hash browns and they didn’t even fill the side plate. Server never checked in and was constantly yelling across the restaurant at the bus boys to do things. You have to pay for your food before you are seated- whether there are seats available or not. We got lucky and only had to wait about 5-10 minutes to be seated but then it took another 15-20 minutes to get our food. IMHO you can get the same experience (probably even better) for cheaper at a Leo’s.

Google
Been going here four years both to go and eat in... it's absolutely delicious. Right now they have a bowl special that's amazing. Love the panini too! Can't go wrong. Hash browns are the best! Fresh squeezed and great coffee. Diner that is always packed for good reason

Google
Katie and Melanie were amazing! The gyro is my absolute favorite! I was a vendor at an event that was just outside and they were amazing! I was able to order my food and come back to pick it up. They truly were phenomenal and so helpful! I ate here for 3 days straight and did not get tired of it! So good!

My children (teenagers) & I love this place!! Always great food & great service!! Cute little place with high quality food that is beyond delicious!! We love this place so much that it has became our birthday breakfast tradition!!

Google
Omelette & Waffle Cafe is a really solid joint. When you arrive you have to order up front before you can be seated. Not always super ideal if you’re meeting someone there because you can’t get a table and it seems to always be pretty packed, but, it’s not a huge deal. There’s a regular menu and then a board with specials - lots of great options. I went with a build your own omelette and it’s really nice because you can get how ever many things you want inside the omelette. While I didn’t do it, you could get every veggie, cheese, and meat which is nice because I feel like at most places you pay per add in or for every extra add in after two or three. The food itself was really good! Kind of a standard breakfast joint but the food seemed really fresh and it was good. The restaurant itself is a little small so it can feel a bit tight and get a little loud, but again, not a bad thing!

Google
It was your typical hole-in-the-wall diner. The menu options were really great! The fresh OJ was fantastic. The staff was really friendly. The food was good - exactly what you’d expect. I liked my veggie panini. It won’t blow your socks off but it was decent food at a decent price in this area. No complaints.

Google
Super cute little place. Order at the front and then take your number to your table. Breakfast bowl is one of the tastiest things I've ever had - no exaggeration! The gravy is savory and flavorful. Omelets are tasty, and the kids meals always hit the spot for my kid and are generous enough that sometimes we get a sample! Staff is friendly and helpful! We will definitely keep coming back!

Google
Very good food.. a bit on the small portion size but the Price reflects that so it's all good . I prefer this location to the Northvile one any day. My omelette was tasty and hot.

Yelp
Went with my daughter to her favorite breakfast place. She had been coming here for years and the only negative was the coffee years ago. They must have read her review as the coffee was quite good. Ordered the Greek omelette and cinnamon, raisin toast. As pictured, all was prepared as ordered. Pictures of jellies and hot sauce was something I learned in Florida. A slice of toast with orange marmalade sprinkled with hot sauce is a great breakfast dessert. Most restaurants don't give you a choice of jellies or have hot sauce on the table.

Yelp
Breakfast is not something I eat often, but when I do it's usually something small or not super heavy. On this day I really wanted eggs and some kind of fried potatoes with a cup of coffee. Came here based on reviews and I was pleased. The way it works is you order your breakfast at the front desk, pay for it and then they bring it to wherever you're seating (which I like). The mug for my coffee also gets bonus points for being nice and sleek. I ordered the Megatron, which came with eggs, toast, and hash browns mixed with veggies and turkey sausage. The cooks behind the counter also seemed very happy to be doing what they do because they were singing along to whatever songs were playing on their speakers! Very good dining experience overall, although the food tasted like any other breakfast place I've ever been to.

Beth S.

Yelp
Food is good, but service is absolutely terrible. I've been there a few times, so I understood that you place your order at the front when you walk in, you pay at the time you order, then you find a table to sit at and a server brings your food to the table when it's ready. They have a cash tip jar out front with a note about tipping your server, but I opted to tip the usual 20% on my credit card. The server brought us our food, and then never came back to our table. Not once. And they were NOT busy. There were 3 other tables of two people in there. The workers had time to play around and joke with each other. But we had to go up to the front counter 3 times to get coffee refills, and then again for a to-go box. Not once did they say anything or apologize about us having to come up for refills. What the heck is the tip for if they do nothing for you? Makes no sense. Will never return.

Yelp
The delious food was prepared fresh by Chef Raymond. Melanie's pleasant personality was excellent as a hostess. This is the cutest little place in Plymouth, MI. Great place for brunch. Don't miss out on this gem. Tell them Lady J sent you

Yelp
Food was bland and undercooked. Toast wasn't even toasted, just has butter on it not even toasted. Omelette was fluffy didn't have a taste. Hash brown wasn't fully cooked. Service was horrible, waitress didn't even give us refills and was rude. Fountain drinks are self service! Coffee was like water and when asked for fresh coffee she got mad, and no better. Place is so small!! You have to sidestep to get around in there. They make you pay upfront and you have the option to tip before you see the service. I will never go back HORRIBLE!!! RUN!!!

Yelp
Coffee tastes a little watery. I remember this place being good a while back but not sure what happened as my crepes were not good at all. The Omelette was not bad. Server was nice.

Yelp
As we walked in we were struck by the delicious smell of breakfast. I ordered avocado toast which was delicious. The tomatoes were beautifully sliced and I appreciated that the tomatoes were on the side rather than on top. Right after we sat down my friend was served orange juice. The food also wasn't a long wait for it to come out. The service was fast and friendly. High recommended this breakfast place.

Yelp
We love the Plymouth location - the food is excellent and the chef's are so friendly! Melanie is a wonderful waitress - very personable and efficient! We love the cozy atmosphere!

Yelp
Came here for breakfast and was able to walk in around 10 on a Sunday. We placed our order quickly and the staff were friendly. We found a seat at a table across from the kitchen which wasn't my favorite as it was quite warm but seating is on a first-come first-serve basis and this was all they had. The food came out quickly and was very good but it's really just your basic breakfast foods. Nothing spectacular here but if you're looking for a quick breakfast that is decent, they do a good job.
google avatar

Yelp
Love the breakfast here. The portions are huge and filling. Sometimes they are a little slow to get you a refill on coffee.
google avatar

Fredric S.

Yelp
Forgive me for questioning the business model, but I'm just not into the mostly self-service for a 15 table restaurant. There were two servers but not much service. Food is fine -- two egg omelets? I haven't seen that in years. But they are open early (7 am) which is nice. It's a pleasant local place but, since I am not a local, I will find someplace else.

Yelp
Great food, great prices and friendly service! We have used them for catering as well and always provide excellent service!

Yelp
Love the food at this laid back old feel diner. Wonderful options for breakfast & service with a smile:)

MegaDreamer1991 ..

Yelp
The food, service, and ambiance is okay... nothing too special that will make me want to come back. The portion looks big but it's really not. The bread hides the empty parts of the plate. Note: You must order and pay before getting seated. I'm a person who likes to take their time to look over the menu so I felt rushed on choosing what I want to eat. The drinks are self served except for coffee.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Best breakfast around. Always crowded but worth the wait.

Yelp
All food was fresh and delicious! Good options. Though, their fountain drink selection was quite limited. Staff was great.

Yelp
Look at the banana berry french toast Omelette Cafe in downtown Plymouth. The strawberries, raspberries & blueberries were really fresh (& the blueberries were huge!) It's a sinful breakfast but worth every calorie! We also loved the Greek omelette. Cozy place in downtown Plymouth. They also have a location in Northville.

Yelp
I was waiting in line to order food for my husband and I (he was sitting at table waiting for me as we just finished a run around DTP), and a very curt lady behind counter barked literally at me, over customers, out the door that he can't sit until I actually place our order. She was rude and we have never been told this before there after a run - when one of us sits and one of us waits in line to place order. DTP residents - will not be back - Many great options around town with friendlier people!

Dave G.

Yelp
Always good food. Fair prices. They have updated the interior so that's nice. Don't drink the tap water though - nasty. Don't understand why they ahve well water.

Yelp
This place is always popping every weekend with people waiting to dine in. They have only a few tables inside and outside so it gets busy quick. You order at the counter and your food is brought to you when you sit down. This is super nice and easy if you know what you want otherwise you will be looking at the menu for a few minutes when you walk in trying to decide. They have a ton of options on their menu. Great service, friendly people working here and a nice cozy diner vibe. Definitely a local hangout for the old folks, for some of them part of their weekly routine. Nothing wrong with it, just makes anyone who dines in feel out of place. The food was good. Not too flavorful, could use a bit more. Overall, it's a good place for a basic breakfast.

Yelp
Tiny seating area so get there early! Standard breakfast items as well as unique and seasonal specials, big portions and tasty! Great game day or weekend warrior fuel! You order at the counter and they bring the food/drinks and refills to you. A great, quiet, no frills breakfast option in Plymouth

Yelp
Good food, good service. Had a nice fresh spinach salad with bacon and boiled eggs for a breakfast. Very yummy. Music is a bit too loud for conversation, but otherwise a nice experience.

Makenzie W.

Yelp
Great prices and staff. Love the omelettes. The seating outside is nice in the summer

Brenda B.

Yelp
I have dined here a few times before and loved it. So when I found myself there this morning with my husband and daughter, I was really looking forward to it. First of all, the omelet did not disappoint - very flavorful and buttery! However, my husband had the hash with eggs over easy. One of the eggs was hard with the yolk broken. We also ordered the berry crepes. I had to look inside to see if they forgot to add the cream. there was only a translucent smear that could not be tasted. What a bummer! In addition, there was only one other person in the restaurant, and the waitress never came by to ask how everything was or to freshen up our coffee. The cherry on top was when the waitress came by as we were leaving and told an older woman who came in through the back door and sat down that she needed to stand and wait by the front door for her guest - there were two other occupied tables in the restaurant! Disappointing food and poor service!

Yelp
Good food. Not enough seating. Others I know seem to like it a lot more than I do. I'd personally call it good, not great.
google avatar

Barb F.

Yelp
Fantastic breakfast! Very local hometown place, fast service, with the cook singing to 50's and 60's music. Not a place for ambiance, but appreciated the great food!

Yelp
A true greasy spoon. Order at the front counter, go get a seat. This was our first time here. We ordered corned beef hash egg white omelet and the #1 special, 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, bacon. I had a glass of the freshly squeezed orange juice. Delicious. From ordering to eating was a max of 15 minutes. Food was as expected. Definitely fluffy pancakes. The takeout business was very robust! Choose this place if atmosphere is not the main objective. After a long evening out this would be a good go to the morning after.

Yelp
I found this restaurant after running errands in the area. It's a tiny diner style restaurant that you order at the register and then go find a table. Service at the register was very rushed. As a first timer I didn't really get a chance to look over the menu. I ordered the breakfast bowl that was on special for the day with a cup of coffee. At first we were told it would be a 15 min wait for a table, then she said it's ready. After ordering I had to verify if it was ok to go find a table or wait by the window. There was some confusion before the waitress told us a table was available. The tables are very tight. We had to ask the bus boy for coffee and he looked confused because he didn't know if we had paid for coffee when we placed our order. He eventually brought us coffee but no spoons or cream. When the food came out it was good however I probably won't be back because it's just so small inside and the service was very unorganized.

Yelp
Decided to try this place out for the first time and wasn't disappointed. The first thing I noticed was that the prices were very reasonable for the area. The menu has your typical variety of eggs, pancakes, waffles and even crepes. The special I ordered included 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and some breakfast meat. I wanted the eggs over easy and that is exactly what I got. You would be surprised how many places can't get this right and over cook the eggs. The pancakes were fluffy and I enjoyed them. The bacon was fine, but could have been a tad more crispy. Not bad by any means. I ordered some banana nutella crepes for the kids, which were the best part of the meal. I almost regretted not getting any for just myself. They were delish! All in all, I will eat here again. This is everything you expect from a breakfast place. Nothing more or nothing less.
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
I have eaten a lot of omelets in my travels but this place has the best. They are light and fluffy and come in a variety of styles. The Greek and Santa Fe are the best. I compare all other omelets to this place. The crepes are also excellent
google avatar

Yelp
We came here for breakfast due to fond memories of the place 10 years ago. All the nostalgia in the world would not make up for the lack of service and mediocre food at the downtown Plymouth location. If I was to rate the Northville location alone it would be 4 stars and the Plymouth location would be 2.
google avatar

Doug R.

Yelp
Not a fan of this location - visit their other location. Why? - Tiny ... to the point of being cramped. - A noisy fountain/ice machine is located in the dining room. - Order/pay at the register, then sit and wait for your food. The other location is a classic full service restaurant operation. - Waitstaff was inattentive - blind to my need for a refill of my coffee. The Good: - The same excellent recipes and kitchen execution. Will I return? Not this location! Please patronize their other location.
google avatar

Yelp
Went to the Plymouth location. Food is decent tasting not pleasing to the eye at all- ordered an omelette and avocado toast to split with my sister- I became increasingly aware while waiting for our food of how filthy dirty and unsanitary this place is. Behind the counter food all over the floor, grease running down the sides of the counters and stove, pile of bacon stacked up on a small plate uncovered clearly sitting out for a long period of time. In front of the counter floor filthy, doormat and other trash leaning up along the wall and front window. Floors and walls dirty and greasy. This place should be closed down until up to State Standards. I most definitely won't be going back.
google avatar

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Charming place and staff, but corned beef hash was a big disappointment. The hash featured about one ounce of really tough meat diced into cubes so small they added virtually no flavor to the final dish. These tasteless morsels were unceremoniously tossed into frozen hashbrowns with coarsely chopped onions and green pepper that scarcely touched the grill. This was accompanied by "over easy" eggs that featured hard, overcooked yolks and sourdough "toast" with zero flavor or color. Yawn.
google avatar

Yelp
Each and every time we have visited here we have just loved the Omelette & Waffle Café! Service is always great and very friendly. The place is a bit non-traditional for a restaurant in that you place your order first and then find a table. When there is nice weather, we try to sit at one of the tables outside. Keep in mind this is with a parking lot view and cars parked right by you. The food is really good and prepared right out in the open as you walk in. You get to see everything that is going on and how your dish is prepared. I really like the multigrain pancakes. The Megatron dish is also another favorite of mine. Keep in mind that if you visit on a weekend morning, there is most often and usually a little bit of a wait. It does get a little crowded. If it is crowded, the wait too long, and the weather is good just place a carry out order. You could walk the block or so to Kellogg Park and enjoy the downtown view.
google avatar

Ian G.

Yelp
Food was exquisite. The breakfast burrito is very good, you can add as many veggies, cheese and meat from options. The Special #2 is a good size portion. Fresh OJ is to die for.
google avatar

Kenrick D.

Yelp
At Omelette & Waffle Cafe, Omelet's are king. I have never tasted an omelet so perfectly firm and fluffy. All their omelets are thrown into a mixer before being thrown onto a skillet. They have many different types of omelets, but the Baked Potato Omelette stands above the rest. The Baked Potato Omelette has Bacon, Onions, Brocoli, American cheese, and green onions sprinkled on top with more American cheese. Honestly, everything is good here. Just come by and try their DELICIOUS
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
The Omelette & Waffle Cafe's slogan is "Never flat, always fluffy." The omelettes meet that standard, though I'm not sure that's a good thing. My omelette (the Mexican--chorizo/onion/cheddar/jalapeño) had an unusual soufflé-like texture. Very soft, and yes, fluffy, but without a lot of egg flavor. I almost felt like I was eating a blintz instead of an omelette. Its being a tad overcooked may have contributed to that. The sausage at least had good flavor, though I would have liked more cheese. I was happy to see my hash browns come extra-crispy. Usually I order them that way but forgot this time. Always nice to get what you wanted when you weren't expecting it. Service was good, and coffee was refilled just when it needed to be. Obviously their style of omelette has a following, since this place has been around for a while. I guess I just like less fluff in mine.

Beatrice K.

Yelp
This place used to be me and my husband's favorite breakfast spot in downtown Plymouth but not anymore. The last two times we have been there we were reprimanded by a very rude lady at the register taking the orders who feels the need to do it front of everyone is this tiny restaurant. The first time we were corrected was when we sat outside and opened our umbrella. Being scolded it was too windy to open it. Although all the other establishments had their umbrellas open. And to be honest it was a mild wind. The last time we were corrected was this past Saturday when we brought our dog and had to sit outside. While my husband was at the table I went in and ordered only to be scolded that we have to order first before we sit down even though there were 2 other open tables out of the 4 or 5 they had total. The manager needs to have a one on one with this Drill Sargent wannabe at the register or they will continue to lose business. I'm not sure if she even knows how to smile. We will go to Crawford's Kitchen in the future. They bring a bowl of water and treats to the table if you have a dog. And much, much friendlier.
google avatar

Adam T.

Yelp
Terrible service. Because we have two kids, 4 and 2, we called from the farmers market to make sure they weren't swamped and we could get a table. I called twice; the first time I was assured of a short wait, and the second time I was told tables were opening up. When we got there we were told, rudely, that we had to order before finding a seat. The waiting area was extremely cramped, standing room only, right inside the entry, where we were constantly jostled by the next customers coming in (who were also promptly told they had to order before sitting). This is torture without little kids, impossible with kids. If you don't let people sit before they order, you need to have the space for people to wait comfortably. And if you don't have that space, at least don't be rude about it. I don't know how this place has more stars than Zacks.
google avatar

Soleil K.

Yelp
My hubbie heard about this place from reviews and ordered me breakfast from here about a month ago. It was so good that we decided to come for brunch today. So we got here, ordered the cinnamon swirl pancakes (which should DEFINITELY BE PLACED INSIDE A WAFFLE FOR WAFFLE LOVERS, SUCH AS MYSELF) and some eggs/ omelets. The staff were very friendly. Once seated, we were brought our food in no time at all. The eggs were okay, average, BUT the pancakes were fabulous. Doesn't even need butter or syrup! The flavor would be even more AMAZING on a waffle (new menu item please! ). The flavor is addictive for sure! Not to mention the wonderful fact that the orange juice is FRESHLY squeezed! Oh I loved that!
google avatar

Kelley W.

Yelp
I love how tasty this place is. The pile on the fruit onto waffles and French toast and the food quality is excellent
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
I had the farmers omelet- it was pretty delicious. Wish they cut the onions and green peppers into actual bite sizes versus the chunks that were in the omelet. We will definitely come in again to try something different. The orange juice is good but wish it was a little colder. Ours was like warm. The place is pretty small so I can't imagine going on a weekend.
google avatar

Becca M.

Yelp
Honestly we used to love this place but dining in today was just really disappointing. Inside of the restaurant was chaotic. People walking around everywhere, other customers confused on where to go, and given the current state this made us very uncomfortable. They do have outdoor seating, but it was quite cold this morning. Our bad for choosing to sit inside. I do commend the staff for enforcing mask wearing as there was someone not wearing one while moving around the restaurant. That was greatly appreciated. The staff was not as friendly as I remember, and were more excited about an online order than serving customers in the store ("yay another door dash!") while not checking in on tables. I've never waited so long for food at this restaurant and when we ordered there were several open tables and no one in line behind us. Food was just placed on our table and we weren't checked in on before or after that. We ordered a crepe (which was actually very yummy) and an omelette without tomatoes and got tons of tomatoes in it. We had waited so long we didn't even send it back because we were just starving and ready to leave. I understand a breakfast rush can get busy and times are tough, but the charm and warmth we used to feel and love just wasn't there today.
google avatar

Dru M.

Yelp
Boy oh boy, I got the breakfast burrito [sandwich #6] and I haven't been able to stop thinking about how delicious it was. It's kind of a build your own once you add things along with the standard items. I think the hashbrowns inside the burrito is so brilliant. I've had other items at this diner but this is my fave.

Yelp
I really do dislike ordering from a counter. Like if you forget something... well, this type of setup isn't conducive to getting said things. Plus, I go out to eat to be waited on... soooo... that being said, this place was still barely a 3-star experience for me. The food was okay, nothing that really made me feel like I'd need to eat it again. The major issue for me is that I ordered an omelette that had avocado specifically because I LOVE avocado. It came with two super-small slivers of avocado. When I asked the staff for more, she came back with 3 slivers of brown/bad avocado. Come on, man. Just look and see what you're serving people. If you wouldn't eat it, don't serve it. That goes for both the kitchen and the "waitstaff". Ugh. On the positive, the coffee is free-flowing. The coffee is okay, but not the best I've had, so again... just no reason to return to this place for me. I get that COVID makes things tougher, but I just went a couple weeks ago... so they should have this stuff figured out by now. Basics of providing quality products is COVID-independent in my mind.

Yelp
Came on my birthday for breakfast and talk about someone waking up on the wrong side of the bed! Cashier was so rude, I asked if the corned beef was fresh or canned and she said it's cubed, well thanks for answering the question. Plus it was loud in there so I couldn't really hear her. I then asked how many waffles does the Belgian waffle come with? ONE. Ok then.. sheesh.. went to grab a table and we knew it wasn't cleaned and the waitress said this table hasn't been cleaned at all yet. Yes. We see that. I go and grab a high chair for my daughter and asked where I should put the extra chair, I carried it back to where I got the high chair and she said just put it there. It was in the middle of the walkway but sure I can leave it here. We ordered the corned beef omelette, Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream, and fresh orange juice. She gave us a red cup and a clear cup. I haven't been here in a long time and even then it was probably my third time there so I was confused. Was I supposed to go somewhere for the fresh squeezed orange juice or they were going to bring it? I asked the waitress and she said they would bring it so I thought she would come fill up my cup, but she brought me a new one. Hmm.. anyways on to the food. I have to admit I really do like their omelettes here because they are just so darn fluffy! But the service just puts a bad taste in my mouth. Waffles were good, I wish there wasn't so much cinnamon in the batter though and it would be nice to mention it in the description in case someone could be allergic to it. I felt like I was eating a cinnamon waffle. Parking wasn't issue in a Friday morning, there is a good size lot next to the restaurant. I know it can be a bit busy on the weekends though. Oh I forgot, you need to order at the front and they bring you the food. So on busy mornings, it's best to check out their menu ahead of time so you're not holding up the line looking at the menu on the tv screens on the wall.

Yelp
What can I say except Omelette and Waffle Cafe has my help for so many reasons. First they're located in my favorite little city "Downtown Plymouth". Second reason is the service and food is amazing and so fresh. The kitchen area is open to the Cafe and the Chefs are always smiles and joking with the staff and customers. Third reason is they always have new specials on the chalk board above the register that will challenge your taste buds and enlighten your ability to try new combinations. I've always enjoyed the veggie omelette myself. Filled with the freshest ingredients and somehow always fluffy and juicy. The hash browns are crunchy on the outside and steamy in the middle. The coffee is always fresh full of flavor. Try the French toast with powdered sugar on top. So good and bursting with comfort food flavor. Give them a try and fall in love with all the Cafe food and staff.
