NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"In Flushing, Omi Omakase’s $109, 15-course dinner just misses our cutoff for sub-$100 omakase spots—though lunch is $69 for 10 courses. They’ve got classic nigiri options here, including a few topped with uni or caviar. You can eat them at either one of five private rooms, or at the bar." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, bryan kim

Omi Omakase just opened in Flushing, and it’s already one of the best hidden gems I’ve tried recently. The atmosphere is quiet, minimal, and very calming—perfect for focusing on the food. The meal starts with a Kumamoto oyster topped with quail egg, scallion, salmon roe, and a yuzu jelly at the bottom. You mix it together before eating, and the freshness really wakes up your palate. Next was the chawanmushi with white truffle, cherry sweet shrimp, and bottarga powder—smooth, fragrant, and layered with umami. Then came the deep-sea Greeneye fish, clean and tender with no fishiness at all. From there, the progression of dishes felt very thoughtful: • Kanpachi or madai sashimi, very fresh and delicate • Tuna with truffle, luxurious and aromatic • Shima aji, toro with caviar, kinmedai • Ocean trout with foie gras (a bold surf-and-turf bite) • Sawara or squid, Hokkaido scallop, Miyazaki A5 wagyu with truffle salt • Sweet shrimp with Hokkaido uni, grilled eel The highlights for me were definitely the wagyu and the toro handroll with ikura—rich, flavorful, and very satisfying. Dessert was a light cheesecake, a perfect way to finish. 💰 The full omakase is 16 courses for $109, which is honestly a fantastic value considering the quality of ingredients (truffle, foie gras, wagyu, uni, caviar). Overall, Omi Omakase feels refined yet approachable, with a well-paced menu that builds flavor gradually. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Flushing and looking for a high-quality sushi experience.

Google
Amazing presentation and great chef. Some of the best you can get for average price omakase ($105/person). Really love the intimate setting of <20 people max around a table setup. Attentive staff making sure my tea was filled and empty dishes removed from the table swiftly. Hokkaido scallop was a favorite.

Google
Love this omakase place! For only 109 pp you get a 16 course sushi feast. All the fish cuts are larger than what you get at other nyc omakase, and taste so good so fresh. I love the ototo, uni and sweet shrimp pieces so much. 100% recommendation!!!

Google
Om Omakase is a new addition to the downtown Flushing space, and one I was eager to try after reading the reviews on Google. Sad to say, this new sushi spot is just not it. The ambience, presence of private tatami mat rooms, and attention from wait staff give it that high service/atmosphere rating. Now on to the food. Don’t be deceived by photos, my phone decided to put in some effort that day 😂. First of all, the raw ingredients are put into the same box, haphazardly stacked on top of each other. Multiple chefs would be taking pre-sliced pieces of fish from the box and filling them as needed, just shoving the newly pre-sliced fish in wherever they found space. This was a first for any sushi spot I’ve ever been to. The fish is simply not “fresh fresh fresh” as a lot of the reviews here claim it to be. Their cuts are of lower quality and do not taste fresh at all. At the end of the day this is just another run of the mill “bromakase” location doing it worse than others in the area. If you want to go for the vibes, this will be your place as they do have a nice interior.

Omi Omakase has recently opened in the heart of Flushing’s One Fulton Square offering fresh and top quality ingredients without the need to trek into the city. The space is bright, clean, and beautifully designed. Chefs and staffs are friendly and attentive striking the perfect balance between engaging and unobtrusive. Omi Omakase has an excellent selection of sake to choose from that’s perfect to pair with your meal. You can taste that each course is thoughtfully prepared with care and precision. For just $109, you can enjoy a 16-course experience that delivers both quality and value. Stop by Omi Omakase and enjoy some authentic omakase!

Guys, just had the most AMAZING dinning experience at Omi Omakase with authentic Japanese flavors Omi absolute is a hidden omakase gem 💎 wow, Omi offers the private tatami room as well. $109 dinning experience truly meet my expectations, absolute OBSESSED with each bite with fresh fish from Japan EVERY SINGLE MORNING ☀️ Let’s talk about the REAL STAR - Sushi The high quality ingredients is EVERYTHING 🔥 the chef presented each course so beautifully. Each bites is value for the experience. Be impressed by the creativeness of the pieces, expected delight. Each piece meticulously curated based on the finest ingredients 🎣 perfect filling.

Google
Just want to start out by saying that the service was great. The servers were attentive and always there whenever you needed them. Atmosphere is good too. The decor and interior are very pretty. The private tatami rooms are also a nice touch. The food though, that’s the reason why you go out to eat. You don’t go out for the service, atmosphere, or decor- you go for the food. I witnessed the chef putting the raw meat on top of the raw fish in the box, that’s cross contamination. I didn’t like seeing that. None of the omakase pieces stood out to me. They were average and mediocre at best. It was just nothing special at all. If anything, the amount of wasabi being added to the pieces increased as the meal went on. Not to mention, the pieces of fish were definitely on the smaller side to the point where it didn’t even cover the wasabi sticking out. With all of these highly rated reviews, I had high hopes, but it all came crumbling down the more I ate there. It really did not live up to my expectations in the slightest. Truly disappointing in terms of food quality. All in all, if you want omakase from another generic sushi place in Flushing, you can come here and see for yourself. I on the other hand, will not be coming back.

Went for friends’ birthday dinner. Food and service was top notch. The chef Lok is one of the best. Also the fact that there is excellent Omakase in Flushing, Queens without going into the city is awesome.

Yelp
Had a very pleasant dining experience at Omi Omakase. It was my first time visiting. The space was modern yet warm and inviting. We had the 16 course Omakase for $109 which included oyster shooter, toro, sea scallop and wagyu. The miso cod was particularly memorable. Ben who was behind the counter was attentive and made our dining experience that much better. It was well worth the cost of $109 and beyond. I will be back very soon!

Yelp
Cuisine: 3 Service: 5 Decor: 8 Value: 4 Overall: 4 I hate to be bearer of bad news, especially because I was holding onto real hope that this restaurant would truly give me a top notch sushi omakase experience without going into Manhattan. Unfortunately, I cannot in good conscience recommend this new contender for best sushi in Queens. Nowadays, sushi omakase is dime a dozen. They all follow the same successful formula and opened by Fukinese immigrants who learned from other Japanese restaurants before opening their own. The trickle down effect leaves us with a bunch of unqualified "sushi chefs" serving one of the most expensive meals on average in the city. Sadly, this restaurant falls into that category. What most sushi connoisseurs appreciate more than anything else is good quality rice that accentuate the best seafood the chefs can source. The moment I tasted the rice here frightened me of the meal I was about to experience. I don't know who made the rice, but they need to re-evaluate their process immediately. It was hard, cold, lacked acidity, and all around sucked. I am not trying to be mean, but I hope the restaurant reads this review and improve upon the most important part of sushi. As for the other aspects, the fish often was served a bit too chilled, and almost always too dressed. For example, the Hokkaido Scallop didn't need plum sauce, yuzu zest, and truffle salt. When it came to the most desirable ingredients of the night, wagyu was cut too thin and over charred with the blowtorch, while the uni was not the best quality. I wanted to tale a picture of the box of uni, but the chef said it doesn't look very nice and was too watery due to likely poor transportation. I do want to mention that Chef Lok (from Malaysia, worked at Masa for 6 months) was maybe one of the only delightful part of the meal. He was friendly and funny, while the servers were a bit lackadaisical with simple tasks like keeping the tea cups filled. Also, the decor was quite nice, with many private spaces/rooms for larger groups. Btw, $109 is not crazy expensive, but this same meal could be had in Manhattan at many locations for less, not to mention better. In the end, I truly wish Omi Omakase was the sushi heaven in Queens that I have been searching for. Unfortunately, it just simply wasn't what I prayed for.

Yelp
Omi Omakase in Flushing completely exceeded my expectations. The attention to detail here is incredible -- from the warm, minimalist interior to the precision in every course. The 16-course omakase was perfectly balanced, featuring fresh, seasonal fish and creative pairings that stood out without feeling overdone. The chefs were welcoming and clearly passionate about their craft, making the whole experience feel personal and elevated. It's an intimate, beautifully designed spot that easily ranks among the best omakase experiences in Queens.

Yelp
Food was great!! Chef's Choices were delightful. Price is good for the value of the dinner. Staff was attentive. Ambience was cool all around , although I would prefer background music in accordance with the theme, instead of modern English style music.

Yelp
Food was very fresh. The costumer services was extremely helpful. Explain us all the fishes and when each piece was made they explain it again to us and ask if it was good

Yelp
Met up with friends for an omakase lunch. I didn't like the first dish -- my oyster and conch didn't taste as fresh, although my two friends said theirs were fine. Overall, it wasn't too bad for the price: 12 pieces for $69 per person. The service was great, and the head chef was very friendly and talkative. However, the rice was a bit loose, and a couple of pieces fell apart.

Chen C.

Yelp
Went here for the lunch omakase (12 pieces for $69). All of the pieces were delicious and on par with other popular places in Manhattan like Sushi by M or Sushi by Lin (my other favorites). My wife came here as well with her girlfriends for dinner ($109 for 16 pieces) and enjoyed the food but thought lunch was a better deal. Ambience and decor was very nice and service was great.

Yelp
Fish was very good & fresh with the exception of uni. Service was hit or miss. Ambiance is very nice & modern. They have small private rooms good for 4 ppl. Sushi chefs were very kind and prepared the fish in front of us for the omakase. Food: 4.5 Service: 4 Ambiance: 4.5 Overall: 4.5

Yelp
Nick was awesome! It was genuinely such a great experience. He treated me and my party like we were close friends. Super friendly and great at serving us the sushi. The food was very refreshing from other omakase places. Everything felt so clean and new. The whole restaurant moved surgically. Highly recommend and they are doing great for such a new restaurant spot.

Jean L.

Yelp
We've tried a few omakase spots, and this is definitely one of the top ones. Each course was fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and full of flavor. The chef's attention to detail and the overall experience made it truly memorable. Great service and atmosphere, too.

Yelp
Had a great omakase experience at Omi! Full house during the 5.30 sessions. Definitely recommended. Ambiance very warm and comfortable. 16 courses very filling and delicious.
