This is a budget-friendly business hotel, conveniently located near Otaru JR Station. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk from main attractions like Otaru Canal and Sakaimachi Street. We arrived during rainy weather, and with snow on the pavement, the walk from the station felt a bit tedious.
Check-in and check-out were seamless thanks to the automated machine, with staff available at reception for assistance. We stayed in the newly built north wing, while the south wing is a historic building. The bathroom was spacious, featuring both an overhead and handheld shower that could run simultaneously, though it lacked hooks for hanging clothes. The sink’s hot water didn’t seem to work—or perhaps there was none to begin with.
Amenities like facial skincare products and coffee drip bags were available in the lobby, but they came at an extra cost. The coffee was just a standard convenience store brand, and our room didn’t include tea bags, instant coffee, or complimentary water.
The hotel’s lounge on the 3rd floor of the historic building was a highlight. With oil lamps casting a warm glow and antique disc music boxes playing, it had a nostalgic charm. Breakfast is served there too, offering some unique options like churros, squid shumai, and seafood donburi. However, the selection was limited, and dishes like deep-fried vegetables and squid weren’t kept warm.
Overall, it’s a practical choice for budget travelers who value convenience and a touch of character, but don’t expect luxury or extensive amenities.
