20 Great Restaurants in Ridgewood

"Hidden on one of the neighborhood’s quieter streets there’s a small Indonesian cafe located in a former bodega. The egg and cheese sandwich consists of a thick, custard-like omelet (with add-ons like turkey) sandwiched inside a soft, chewy bun. Wash it down with a cup of bajigur, a latte flavored with ginger and pandan leaves." - Robert Sietsema, Andrew Karpan

A Running List of Restaurants That Closed in New York City, July 2021 - Eater NY

"Since it opened in December 2014, Onderdonk & Sons quickly became a go-to spot in this Brooklyn neighborhood for burgers and beer. It closed permanently on June 28, however, and on the bar’s Instagram account, one of the last posts noted that “the decision, like the last year, was tough.”" - Erika Adams

Google
Hidden gem! It's a small cafe that you would miss if you're not looking for it. I was looking for it and drove right past it. I got a latte and coconut bun. The coffee was good but the coconut bun was AMAZING! If you are anywhere near this place you need to come and check it out. Laptops and tablets are not allowed so keep that in mind if you are looking to get work done while you sip.

Onderdonk Cafe Layout/atmosphere *Bare bones cafe (Southeast Asian influence); no laptop policy; wooden tables Food/drink *Kopi Bajigur (Coffee with pandan leaves, spices, palm sugar, ginger & milk) [iced] - Good; aromatics *Turkey bacon & cheese bun - good *Blueberry & cinnamon sugar bun - Good; the blueberries stood out/fresh

Google
Great pastries and decent coffee, but don’t come here if you’re looking to sit for a while. After 45 minutes she will ask you to buy something else or leave. This rule is reasonable if the place is busy, but this place never is. Perhaps this attitude is why!

I want to give 5 stars - great food and drinks, nostalgic calm vibes, and I love the no laptop policy. But because of the no bathroom rule I can't. It doesn't make sense and it comes off selfish especially since we can all see the bathroom door. Is it bc of covid (even though we live in a covid world now) or they just don't want to clean? Either way, I had to leave because I needed to go home and pee. I hope they reconsider since the rule is not considerate to their customers.

Came by for the first time and immediately liked the ambiance. A subtle mix between historical and foreign aesthetic Iced Americano was solid but the Bun w/ Turkey Ham & Cheese is Incredible! Place speaks for it self. Good place to write or an intimate conversation.

Can't wait for this to be open during the week so it can be my new home away from home. Cozy, friendly, great coffee and delicious coconut buns.

Yelp
Really enjoyed their treats at this place! Has to be one of the best matcha lattes I've had in a long time. I LOVED their little lemon poppy cake! Highly recommend it. The only thing that's keeping me torn up about this is that there is no bathroom available. I never really understood coffee shops that do that, but had to knock off a star for that.

Yelp
I would say it like this, if you have dogs and they always walk with tou everywhere, we should nott support coffee shops that dont let you bring you dog inside. I understand if you staying in is ok to say that but if you walking in to get a cofee to go , come on I was so happy that i was going to have a coffee shop so close to my apartment, but what a dissapoinent when the lady said i couldnt bring my dog inside. Sometimes coffee shops like that one dont know the client they loosing. But anyways dog lovers please dont support coffee shops like this one. Dont leave your dog at home just cause they dont want you to bring a dog inside. There soo many coffee shops better than this one and they let you bring your pets insiide as long as you picking up and out. I recommend this one is call Sky Coffee recently open and they're pet friendly

Yelp
Support this small business! Delicious pastries and coffee drinks. Service with a smile, every time. Nice and clean inside with a cute little bench to sit outside. I for one am glad there is a place you can go where people aren't in front of their screens for hours on end, and entitled dog owners aren't bringing their animals inside. You can't deal with leaving your dog tied up outside for a few minutes while you run in to grab something? Give me a break.

Yelp
No idea what is going on here. Hidden gem, unique vibes for this part of Ridgewood. Only one person working. They sell coffee, pastries, and an egg sandwich. The egg sandwich is out of this world mind blowing. The texture of the eggs is difficult to describe so let's just go with: fluffy. Just get it. It's $8. Cold brew is $4.50. Really wish they were open more often. Not sure I understand the aversion to laptops. But for what this place does, they do it very well.

Yelp
I missed the sign after ordering that they don't allow laptops or tablets. After paying and getting my coffee I politely asked for a refund since I was going to work for an hour on my laptop. Whom I assume was the owner gave me attitude. I'm when you are charging $6 dollars you can afford to give a refund. Terrible customer service.

Yelp
The owner of the cafe is so warm and welcoming which matches the overall aesthetic. This neighborhood is charming and this coffee shop fits right in.

Yelp
After decades this spot finally has something good. The coffee is great as well as the atmosphere and baked goods. I just dont understand the hours and their dislike of laptops. There are many people that work from home and I feel like it would benefit the business to have a packed house. Also the hours should change, imo.

Yelp
Excellent coffee shop--best in Ridgewood. Great coffee and homemade baked goods. The kopi bajigur is delicious; egg sandwich divine. Owner is lovely. Welcomed addition to this side of Ridgewood.
