Beloved Middle Eastern Restaurant Al Quick Stop Plots a Second Location | Eater Houston

"A new cocktail bar from barman Michael Molina has opened at 208 Travis Street. The spot opens daily at 3 p.m. and serves creatively named drinks, including the Thai Dollar Sign, which mixes Citadelle gin, lemon juice, crème de cassis, and Thai basil." - Amy McCarthy

Google
One of the best bars in the city! Drinks are amazing, drink prices are even better! The people who go here seem so lively and friendly. You can start a conversation with just about anyone, or just hang out solo and enjoy the vibes. Super laid back and on top of that, they play great movies. Last time I was there, they had Pulp Fiction on the screen. Shout out to the Bartender, bro is super cool and skilled. All drinks were slapping!

V C.

Google
Great chill vibes, was able to have a conversation with my date and the craft cocktails were both reasonably priced and actually quite unique and intriguing. I tried the Trinidad James since I love black sesame despite not normally being someone who can stand Angostura Bitters but it was beautifully balanced and I'd order it again in a heartbeat. This bar is definitely now on my shortlist for when I'm downtown.

Google
In sticking with the ATDI theme I had a pickpocket to drink. I also had a raspberry beret and a japanese trees; everything was really good. There is bar seating as well as a few tables. I was the only female in the bar and felt comfortable which is a big deal when you're traveling alone. Thank you to the owner for creating a safe environment!

Google
Amazing place. The vibe and atmosphere was great, but it was the staff and people that made it awesome! The owners are very welcoming and friendly people. Thanks for the tasty drinks (tough call, but the Manhattan was my favorite) and great conversations to make my trip to Houston more enjoyable!

Google
Service is great - the bartender is very friendly. Atmosphere is great if you’re into rock music. But cool interior design. Cocktails are ok - had corpse reviver and mule. Ingredients and proportions could be better.

Jasmin !

Google
Great bar and great staff. Corey the bartender was very attentive and very friendly. The atmosphere was very welcoming and laid back. Such a great spot to enjoy a nice beer or cocktail any given evening.

Google
Loved the vibe of this bar. The counter service and laid back charm combine to make a place I wouldn't mind hanging for a while at. The drinks were great, they had some really interesting cocktails. The menus were really creative and fun too.

Google
Old school neighborhood bar that has a clean updated decor. Each drink is handcrafted by a true mixologist and were outstanding! Will be going back.

Yelp
Low key vibes, cozy space and some of the most reasonably priced cocktails you can find in downtown Houston (and that's saying something). OAS is the perfect spot to grab a cocktail before or after dinner and just chill for a bit. Anytime I've been, the bartenders are always friendly and somehow know about 50% of the people walking through the door - it feels like an industry spot for sure and that makes me like it even more. In a Houston summer, this is the place to get a little AC and a perfectly mixed drink.

Yelp
Super fun place! Laid back and clean. We visited from out of town and tried several drinks. Each one was delicious and the customer service was top notch! Highly recommend.

Yelp
One Armed Scissor is easily my favorite bar in Houston. The staff are incredibly hospitable and are always eager to please patrons with delicious cocktails as well as genuine conversations.

Yelp
Simple put, This place is awesome! Visiting family in Houston from Austin and my gf wanted to a good spot to grab a cocktail at. We had just finished eating at La Calle across the street when we came across One Armed Scissor and I'm so glad we stumbled upon this hidden gem! We tried the Toronto and the Margarita and both were phenomenal! If you're looking for a good cocktail and an awesome vibe stop on by! The bartenders (and owners I'm assuming) are extremely friendly and welcoming! 5/5!

Yelp
One of my favorite low key spots. The drinks here deliver, from unique twists to the classics. Michael and his wife are chill and awesome to chat with. The best part about this place is location, it's a little off the path, which makes it best for those looking for a more chill vibe. Do yourself a favor, go here and support some solid folks making fantastic drinks!
google avatar

Patrick S.

Yelp
This is the downtown "neighborhood" living room (open late). Friendly staff, great drinks, affordable. This is the "Cheers" for downtown residents. Great ambience btw.
google avatar

Dina M.

Yelp
Love love love this space . It's away from the craziness of the weekend crowd with great drinks . The bartenders are attentive and will come out from Behind the bar to check on you . Great for people watching . Will take friends back here
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
Cool chill spot in downtown! The drinks were strong but everything was really great. The bartenders were a friendly and the place was really nice. I legit would have missed it if I wasn't paying attention when we walked there! Definitely a low key spot in Downtown to chill at!
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Nice cocktail bar. Service is great and the bartenders are knowledge. They usually have barrel pick whiskeys. Parking is pretty limited to street parking. Might recommend ubering.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Stopped by here to try their cocktails. Overall place is on the smaller size, with bar seating, a few tables, and some seating against the wall. All of which is your standard beer bar type of seating.. The menu includes, beers, cocktails, and shots--- all of which were really affordable. I tried the working tile which was pretty good, and came out fast. Bartender was really friendly and honest-- e.g. won't up sell you on top shelf alcohol you can't taste in your cocktail. They also have a couple TVs going showing some random movies. I think I saw a US film with Korean subs?? Place is pretty clean, affordable, and is a solid place to meet your friends. It has a little more of a (clean) hole in the wall / edgy feel to it.

Yelp
One Armed Scissor is a Tier One spot for any respectful and reasonable guest to enjoy great company and libations. The bartenders make amazing cocktails! - I'm certainly quite picky about my Manhattans and OAS has one of the best. The vibe is very friendly, laid back, and inclusive. Living downtown, this has quickly become one of my favorite spots to visit. It's hard to find a place that's both unpretentious and high-caliber. It's obvious that a lot of thought and care are put into everything here. I'd use caution when reading any negative review of this bar. The staff are not only great at their jobs, but also very patient and welcoming toward all - even those who don't deserve it. 5 stars!

KJ A.

Yelp
Cool spot but people weren't too friendly working and then a guy was harassing us. I wish I could give it better reviews but the experience was horrible

Yelp
The fact this bar doesn't get more attention is just a shame...or maybe good for people like me who like these places to themselves. One armed scissor is one of the many bars that was closed for a large part of the Pandemic and it has been open now for months. I have to say it's comeback is welcome. The bar itself if located near McIntyre's so the location is very good if you plan on bar hopping. It's located a block away from Houston Watch Company, another favorite location of mine. The decor of the bar is less of a speakeasy vibe that other cocktail bars nearby might have and has more of modern flair to it. Now the owner himself is a veteran of the bartending scene and his drinks speak for themselves. Very nice guy and his establishment has a good, diverse selection of specialty cocktails and their traditional cocktails are worth it as well. You should try their Midori sours, nice and sweet but doesn't taste like they just watered down the drink with sugar. Overall, you should try this gem.

Yelp
Quality drinks at a great price. Owner is knowledgeable and welcoming. Very chill atmosphere close to the party, but without all the noise. Really enjoyed the place. Husband loved the old fashioned. Margaritas were amazing!
google avatar

Victoria M.

Yelp
Cozy, casual spot just far enough away from the mass of downtown stuff. Tasty cocktails and low-key atmosphere. They kept their previous following and should be gaining a new downtown audience very quickly.
google avatar

Mariel R.

Yelp
I love this place! Is super chilled and the bartenders always make you feel welcomed! Everyone knows each other... is more than just a bar!
google avatar

Whitney L.

Yelp
Weird space/layout with uncomfortable chairs and dead vibe on a Saturday night. Boyfriend and I ordered 2 cocktails and to be honest we couldn't tell if we liked them. They weren't bad but they also weren't very good.
google avatar

Vanesa V.

Yelp
I've been to the old locations and really liked the drinks there so I was excited to check out their new location. We went on a Friday night and was surprised that we were the only ones there. Drink prices were very reasonable and they had good drink specials. I will definitely come back and look forward to trying other cocktails.

Jack J.

Yelp
Ohh boy. Trust this bar to treat you right. Molina and wife are the tops.

Yelp
My wife and I were in town for a concert on a Tuesday and stopped in at the One Armed Scissor for a few drinks before the show. The bar is located right next to the Hotel ICON, where we were staying. The interior was clean, inviting and nicely appointed. There were approximately 10 bar seats, with an additional 10 tables scattered throughout the interior. The bartender (Janeen) welcomed us as soon as we walked in and sat at the bar. She told us it was happy hour and suggested a variety of drinks. She was definitely a tequila specialist, and my wife selected accordingly. I had a Moscow Mule and then followed that up with an in-house gin drink. My wife had several different tequila-centric drinks. Janeen is a great craft bartender and all drinks were excellent. The pricing was right in line with the area. We really appreciated Janeen's personal service and excellent drinks. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The thing that keeps me coming here is the fact that I'm in love with the Trinidad James. The guys here somehow managed to make a cocktail version of my all-time favorite Asian dessert (black sesame soup) and my world has never been the same because of it. Fun fact: they get their black sesame at H-Mart lol. The ambience here is different from the downtown rowdiness you can find just a block away. It is extremely quiet in here (I can't even remember if they play any music), making it a perfect place to just chill and chat with a friend if that's what you're in the mood for. The guys behind the bar are also some of the friendliest and funniest bartenders I've met in Houston and will make sure you're taken care of.

Yelp
Visiting from Chicago...this place is a must stop in. This is an amazing place. Drank with the owner and he is a very down to earth dude. Drinks are on point and great!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I was so excited when I heard One Armed Scissor was back! I've been to the old location and loved it. Although located right in downtown, it feels like a respite from the busy Main Street bars. It's small, but the layout keeps it from feeling crowded and getting too loud. The bartenders are super cool and friendly - so feel free to ask questions! The cocktail menu is small but delicious. I loved the Thai Dolla Sign - the fresh basil is super different and refreshing! The French 75 was also excellent. My friend was very excited that they also offer a Whistle Pig flight. I do not know what this means, but he can't wait to come back for it. If that is something that excites you, check it out!

Yelp
This is my second time here at the One Armed Scissor. This is the perfect place to come and just chill and have a great drink. They have several signature cocktails such as the Negroni, Neon Blonde and many others. The service is great and the atmosphere casual. You can't go wrong here.
google avatar

Chad P.

Yelp
Incredible drinks. I had the Juan collins. Thai dollar sign has Thai basil, gin, and simple syrup. Jello shots great and only two dollars. Chill vibe.

Taylor M.

Yelp
Great bar!! Awesome bartenders and of course drinks. Definitely pop in if you're in the area to say hello and grab a drink
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
This place is our new favorite bar downtown!! Molina, the owner, is so knowledgeable about his spirits and makes amazing drinks!! He made us an old fashioned, Thai dolla sign, Romeo's distresed (a twist on a nigrones) daiquiris, and a REAL gin martini!!! AMAZING!!! If you like traditional ...or if you want something off the cuff, let the bar tender hook you up!! We love you guys!
google avatar

Christa S.

Yelp
Small little cocktail bar, few seats at the bar, couple pub tables, and seating along the back wall. Great list of traditional cocktails with a small twist. I got the margarita style cocktail, and I could have finished it in three sips it was so good. Seemed like a really good crowd for a simple Tuesday night. I would definitely check it out, I probably wouldn't be back to visit, unless I was meeting people there. Cool, bar, but we just have so many other places that I got a better vibe about.
google avatar

Vanessa F.

Yelp
I loved this down town hidden bar. Great for date night because it's a good place to have great craft cocktails and talk. I will definitely come back for awesome drinks.
google avatar

Julie E.

Yelp
Molina is back with a great bar, just off Market Square. The drinks are delicious, the staff welcoming, the play list engaging. Currently loving the Thai Dolla Sign and Working Title. A couple of unobtrusive TV screens, no sound, just in case there is an interesting game on tap. This is a chill spot to enjoy excellent drinks and fine conversation.
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
Favorite bar! Amazing craft cocktails without the pretentious vibe. Great staff and an awesome atmosphere. Dope range of music, from old school southern/Houston based rap to emo and punk and even some classic country. The menu serves up classics as well as their own creations, which never disappoint.
google avatar

Dave H.

Yelp
Molina is rocking downtown H-Town with the best craft/artisan cocktails around. Super cool-highly knowledgeable-and friendly beyond compare. Check this place out-but only bring your cool friends because we don't need another watering hole for ass-hats.

Yelp
This new downtown cocktail bar was attached to the Hughies Heights location for a little bit, then they decided to move as Hughies took control of that little bar eventually. Anyway, a small list of house cocktails, and a very good but not extensive selection of various booze is available. The Old Fashioned is on point, as everything else on the menu. All relatively simple but well made. Which is how I prefer cocktails anyway. A small granite bar, with stools and a few tables scattered. A sparse but comfortable spot. Excellent music playing, great service and happy hour every day from 3-6 (not just on weekdays, though closed on Mondays). I didn't see any drink over $10 anyway. I will be here more often, especially when hopping around the Market Square area.

Justin F.

Yelp
Took my gf here for a late night drink. Good music, not packed on a Monday. They have a Rick and Morty drink: Pickle Rick! Just order with bartender and when he looks at you confused, whisper "secret menu!"
google avatar

Giorgio G.

Yelp
Went here on a whim after a job interview to destress, and was very pleased. The bar is a little small, but had a lot of masculine feel to it. I sat at the bar and the immediately got me a glass of water. I ordered 4 drinks total while i was there. The Thai (something), Bp (something), the Trinidad, and i cant for the life of me remember what the fourth one was. Being a fan of craft cocktails i was very happy with my drinks. They were well balanced, slightly strong and very refreshing. I will definitely be back here with friends in tow. PS. the bar even went above and beyond to hold a parking spot for me. So kudos to them!

Steve P.

Yelp
Great craft drinks in a casual atmosphere. The owner (UH Alumni) gave us some tasty snacks at no charge. Friendly wait staff and clean bathrooms. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Danyel H.

Yelp
I'd never been to the original location, but thanks to Yelp, j was notified of this "Hot & New" spot in Downtown Houston. This was a great place to start my evening on Main St. Very cute ambiance, not super crowded. The bartenders were very nice and really took time in preparing the drinks. Reasonably priced. I got the Thai Dolla $ign, which was AMAZING. I recommend this place and would definitely return in the future!
google avatar

Hannah J.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in downtown Houston. The staff is so knowledgable, the cocktails are delicious and consistent, and the vibe is just right. Perfect for a post work happy hour or posting up for a few hours filled with great conversation and libations!
google avatar

Justin H.

Yelp
Best drinks, hands down! Atmosphere is eclectic (80's and 90's memorabilia) mixed with classic/classy bar motif. The bartender and drinks are top notch, especially if you enjoy a quality drink!
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
Great original cocktails, very cool atmosphere, owner is awesome. I highly recommend grabbing a drink here if you're in downtown Houston.

Brittny G.

Yelp
Awesome handcrafted cocktails. Nice atmosphere and customer service. Fair prices And free parking on Sunday. Indoor and outdoor seating available.
google avatar

Chelsea T.

Yelp
Literally the best bar experience I have had! Customer service, drinks, and atmosphere- everything was top notch. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. I would definitely be visiting again.

Brian E.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Cory and Molina do a great job. The prices are great for a bar downtown. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Ray A.

Yelp
This is a nice and quaint bar. The bartenders here know what they are doing. This is a must. Should be placed on everyone's list.
google avatar

Ashmir T.

Yelp
Very nice staff. Caesar salad with chicken was delicious. Great local beers and good wine selection by the glass.

Janet L.

Yelp
My favorite bar downtown. Very friendly, light and relaxing atmosphere. Creative bartenders.

Joe A.

Yelp
Very cool new bar with a different specialty cocktail for everyone. Small intimate space with great bartenders and atmosphere.

Zach A.

Yelp
Such a great place to get amazing custom cocktails- down to earth, great vibe, knowledgeable bartenders. And if you're not feeling a cocktail, they've got a $5 (TOTAL) shot and beer combo. You won't regret stopping by.

Bobby P.

Yelp
Showed up after midnight and the "owner" ‍ told me that the Astros had lost against the Mariners -- when in REALITY-- GURRIEL HOMERED IN EXTRA INNINGS TO WIN. Thankfully, Ryan makes really great drinks and the place is mega cool and they play cool music. Hopefully they acknowledge Fred Durst Friday nd play more Limp Bizkit.
