The shark and bake never misses ! To be honest…. Any meal I have had here has felt like it has been prepared with care. The food and atmosphere is great and they are a real neighborhood staple

First, I would like to say that, The One Family Dinner, is my FAVORITE breakfast shop to eat at. Their service is amazing and the food is prepared with care and love. The atmosphere reminds me of being in my grandmother’s kitchen. Lastly, there’s two waitresses who have the BEST customer service ever. My favorite waitress is, Taylor. She’s very, very, nice and she provides wonderful service. Next is, Mrs. Mary. She always smiles and makes my coffee just how I like it. Thank you!

Google
Wonderful cozy diner. I enjoyed my breakfast. Didn't feel tired after eating it ether. Very friendly staff. Plenty of seats. Great menu, with lots of options. Food took almost no time to be made. My breakfast was delicious too. Would definitely recommend.

Got the #23 deal. Didn’t come with the grits that was included. Also put cheese on my eggs which I didn’t ask for, and I’m lactose intolerant. And when you try to call them, their phone number doesn’t work. It would’ve been nice to get a call before you just throw whatever in a box that I didn’t want…. The food was okay, not good either. No butter for the toast. I used to come here throughout the years but the food doesn’t taste the same. Seems as they don’t care either.

Google
We're always looking for good, bipoc owned eateries close to home. Sadly, this place won't make our list. The saltfish was too salty and lacked sauce; grits were ok; pepper sauce was expired and not stored in refrigerator Receipt included 2% fee for credit card use.

Google
Diner is not sparkling but the food is GREAT. Great staff. Great menu (Obama items on the menu 🥰🥰😍) my over medium eggs came out perfect as you can see. This is an excellent find (and they have a parking lot so no on street parking)

Google
This has been my go-to spot for breakfast and brunch. All the food is great and cooked to perfection by the cooks. The hostesses are friendly. The big breakfast is BIG and the home fries are scrumptious. If you ask for multiple flavors in pancakes they accommodate and the croissants are grilled to perfection. 10/10 would always recommend

Titus Samuel

Google
After they confusedly took my simple 'bacon egg and cheese on a croissant' order, they packed a thin piece of aluminum foil in a brown baggie for me.. I paid 9.50 for a flat sandwich with basically no cheese and barely any bacon. Let alone for 9 dollars I'd hope for more than a single egg. So definitely not worth it. Where's the 9 dollars worth of sandwich?

Yelp
Good service food is kinda bland they have been open for a good while in the neighborhood and I feel like people go there because it's what's they are used to .... But I feel like it has lost their spunk

Yelp
I have been coming to this place Since it was called Ashley's in the past, they would give you a sausage but split in half but now they split the sausage and half one side they cut into three pieces. Whoever the manager was this morning or the owner. I'll call today 5/17/2024 9:20am she argued me down and tell me it's always been that way I'm not a fool I bought from you guys for years. You split the sausage in half 1/2 of a sausage you cut into three small pieces come on man never again bye this is why it's hard to support local businesses, especially minority businesses They don't respect your dollar, but want you to support

Yelp
What's a girl from the north shore doing around cape verdian territory (cape verdian restaurant next door). When I was told that this was the restaurant we were going to for a quick brunch I automatically thought of Family Dollar. I'm sure I'm not alone in that one. This family owned restaurant is super welcoming, from the owner to the waitress. I'm glad we got a chance to dine in and supported local family owned businesses. My tuna melt was deliciously affordable. I understand businesses are losing out on a lot of money because people are not vaccinated and can not dine in because of the mandate however, those that are please be prepared to show your vaccination card/or pull it up on your phone. You don't want to lose an opportunity to try this place. Parking lot in the rare of the building.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot This little spot is right on Bowdoin St and have your typical comfort food. My husband and I came in and the place was busy and lots going on, take out line was out the door, every booth was occupied so much so they had to open the side area that was closed. There was only 1 person waiting on all the tables but you wouldn't know it. He was so pleasant and paid attention to everyone. You need a little bit of patience when you go there. We ordered fish and grits, eggs and grits and a side of corn beef hash, OJ and water and we waited. While we waited we met mother Sara, a regular at the diner, and we stroke up a conversation. Our meals came and frankly didn't WOW us but didn't taste bad. In looking around, everyone felt at home so I could tell they were regulars. I loved the atmosphere and will definitely go back.

Yelp
Wow. They either don't know how to make a saltfish and bake sandwich or they do and just didn't care. The bake was tasty, warm, fresh, no issues. The saltfish...tasty like salty fish. Yes, yes, I know that "salt" is in the name, but usually the saltiness is not overpowring unlike this gem. Normally when you make Saltfish in Jamaican recipes, you carefully soak and rinse the cod fish to a kid to avoid saltyface with 5hoae that are eating your dish. Everything else is quite good

Unaria J.

Yelp
the food is over priced an nasty, why are you charging 11 for a breakfast sandwic... anywhere else is cheaper an I can get sausage with that for your price. A the food is nasty. I love at 272 an never go there this is what I get

Yelp
Great service here!! Typical diner menu but I was happy with my meal. Got a 3-fruit pancake and some delicious hot chocolate.

Yelp
I gave this business several chances to get it right at least 1 time. I placed several orders through Uber Eats. My orders have never been correct. I don't eat pork but they sent me pancakes with BACON and scrambled eggs. Another time I ordered 2 bake and salt fish and they sent me just 1 order. I called and the lady on the phone said I only ordered 1. Another time I purposely ordered 2 bakes and salt fish and once again I received 1. This restaurant edits the order without even calling. That would've been good customer service to give the customer a call if you're out of an item. The service is extremely slow and the customer service is not good at all and they don't seem to care or address the numerous amount of bad reviews. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again

Yelp
Ok so this is Post Pandemic. I'm going to be as honest as possible. We arrived at 11 and there was a party of 3 behind us 2 adults 1 child. . We waited to be seated as the sign said. But it's more like a Free for all. Empty seat grab it. We was told to go upstairs to one of the booths but decided to opt for the two seater and let the family of 3 have the booth Of course we sat down first waited, the waiter arrived she was cool. No harm there she offered us water. She basically took care of us ...not gonna hold you. The entire time I was there between the lady sitting diagonally from me staring at me the entire time time or the baby of the family we let sit in the booth who literally yelled and screamed the entire time but boy was I ANNNNNNNNNOYED! I get the diner aspect but I feel like there was absolutely no privacy for anyone if we wanted to have a conversation. We would have to whisper. We was all close knit together because the other section was closed. So that didn't sit well with me. I ordered the steak, eggs and home fries( meal come with coffee. Didn't get offered any coffee at all. Wasn't even mentioned. The eggs was great. The toast great. The home fries though.......that is an entirely different story. I am not knocking the chef but the home fries was bad......like bad. The onions didn't seemed cooked. The home fries was bland And the steak.......oh the steak. I am very disappointed if you would even call that steak but none the less. It was way to thin. At one point i bit into the steak and felt something very very hard against my teeth. I didn't bite down hard enough to break anything but I felt a little "crunch". Breakfast is a no go for me. I will try lunch and Dinner and see if my review changes but It's a No for me

Yelp
Service is SLOW!! Food is average. Menu prices are all over the place. Some items are reasonable, others are outrageously high. Be aware, they add a gratituity for parties of THREE or more and don't mention it. (It is posted at the take out area)

Yelp
Generous portions (and yes there are CURLY FRIES!). Since it was a delivery that's probably why my tuna melt was soggy... but delicious regardless and so happy that we can support local businesses owned by black women! Looking forward to the day when I can visit this amazing diner in-person

Yelp
I ordered cornbeef hash and 1 scrambled egg..to go..which cost $8.55 The cornbeef hash was from a can and my 1 scrambled egg was overcooked (brown). I ate the hash but could not eat the eggs because they stunk soooooo bad....made me want to throw up. I googled "why do my scrambled eggs stinks"? Goggle said because they were overdone. Wont go back for canned hash and burnt eggs. Oh yeah, the toast was soggy because they don't wrap it separate, they place it in with the hot food.

Yelp
Quality of food, and service has gone down drastically. Very slow service: waiter forgetting and delayed with serving food and drinks. Food was awful! Their bathroom need attention badly very disgusting and not addressed as much as it should be. No paper towels. I've never been to an establishment that adds gratuity automatically for 3 ppl. The cashier isn't pleasant she's an older yt lady very short lacks customer service skills. All she's focused on is overcharging. I understand not waiting to always buy silverware but it's definitely time. They literally have a dollar tree across the street.
google avatar

Seth R.

Yelp
The food is okay, if not bland, but the worst part about One Family Diner is that they don't warn you that a 20% (yes! 20%) gratuity will be added to parties of three or more. So imagine our surprise when they charged us $10 extra for gratuity for service that WAS NOT VERY GOOD. We saw the waitress twice. Once when she ordered. The second time when we got our food. And that was it. They have it written down on a board in a place where most people wouldn't bother to look. It's a disgusting practice. Most restaurants include gratuity on parties of five or six or more, which is normal, but One Family Diner should be ashamed of themselves.

Yelp
Simple & easy diner off Bowdoin Street, Dorchester. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Clean location and they have a lot of seating in the diner. Cash only. I would recommend this place to someone who doesn't care for the exterior of the place but the quality of the food.

Angela S.

Yelp
If I could of given this place 0 stars you bet I would . First of all let's talk about placing a simple order , you literally have to call them like 20 times to order n that's if they even answer the phone . 2; You place the order they don't even give u a time frame , price , nothing . 3; You go there it's even worse , you'd have to wait a long period of time til someone attends you . I will never order or go to this place again . Horrible service I ever encountered , surprises me that this place is actually open for business.

Yelp
This was my first time here. I had about an hour and a half to kill waiting for an interview. This place was clean, fast, and efficient. The staff were so nice and it seemed they knew a lot of the patrons by name. There are definitely regulars here. I got three eggs scrambled, home fries, turkey bacon, and raisin toast. I commend this place because everywhere I go it is near impossible to get a non pork meat option. That sold this place to me automatically. I will definitely be returning with my kids. Wish there was one closer to where I live because I don't get to Dorchester too often.

Yelp
The food was amazing. The service was even better. I will be back soon for sure. Food was delivered fast, staff checked in frequently and the quality of the food was on point.
google avatar

Cynthia H.

Yelp
The table next to us is still waiting to place an order, even though we sat down 30mins after them. Please do not order the fish and grits. The fish was overly battered and dry. The only good thing was the toast. You should never leave a restaurant hungry.
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
I walked in and a short fat white lady with stringy short blonde hair behind the counter made eye contact with me and didnt even greet me as just continued on. Little shit like that makes it easy for me to determine i dont need to be spending my money where it isn't appreciated. I had to verbally ask someone to assist me even though there were waitresses there at the counter. I asked for hard scrambled eggs got watery mushy eggs. Sausage & pancakss were good homefries couldve used more seasoning and so did the eggs.

Yelp
Love this place! The food, and the people are wonderful! When you come, make sure to try the Obama special.

Karina S.

Yelp
Gratuity is added to the bill for a party of three or more. 20%. That's crazy. I understand if it's five or more but three? There was no service. It's not like the hostess was overly nice or anything. She gave us our food and drinks and nothing else. She tried to tell some jokes but we couldn't even hear or understand what she was trying to say. My friends food also came burnt. Terrible.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere for the surrounding community. Cash only but there is an ATM in the back.

Ariana V.

Yelp
Great iced coffee and huge portions!! We ordered an omelette and pancakes and was incredible

Silpa M.

Yelp
Cute little place. Seems like there is only street parking. The employees are great! Prices are great for the amount of food served. Orange juice is one of the bottled OJ. Very happy with my omelette hash with toast.

Nate D.

Yelp
Food was better when they were Ashley's. Now they're alil expensive. But I do love the hot sausage egg and cheese sandwich. Also service is great so I'm satisfied.
