Duangrat’s Leans Into Street Food and Retro Kitsch Upstairs - Eater DC

"Neon signage, a blinking Pac-Man machine, and a whimsical taxi cage all help set the stage for a semi-hidden Thai street food offering in Falls Church. One Night in Bangkok, named for the 1984 Murray Head club hit (also a song from the musical Chess, as Broadway nerds know), initially made its debut as a pop-up last summer, and is now located permanently on the upstairs floor of Route 7 Thai institution Duangrat’s, from the same owners." - Missy Frederick

A unique Thai dining experience that my wife and I loved! We enjoyed some authentic Thai street food dishes and loved the decor in the restaurant. Our server was so nice and personable and provided great recommendations when we ordered. We can't wait to come back and try more dishes from the menu!

Wow, where to begin. The food- excellent. We got the dim sum and every dish was ‘wow’ worthy. It was one of those meals where you’re just talking about the food because it was so unique, delicious and well crafted. I highly recommend the duck tacos and the beignets. The service- amazing. I didn’t catch her name, but the waitress was kind, attentive, and made me feel like I was eating at someone’s house rather than a restaurant. Real auntie energy and she had great recommendations. The atmosphere- so unique, clean, well lit, eclectic, homey, full of character. The ONLY thing this place was missing is an aquarium and a disco ball. This is the kind of place you can being your best friend, your mom, your boss- and everyone will have a good time and great food. Please go support this amazing restaurant and staff.

Well I love this place and I wish it was closer to a Metro stop! Cute second level cafe on Leesburg Pike near Bailey's Crossroads. Just look for Duangrat's and park. You'll see it on the left side of the building. They serve dim sum style Thai street food at affordable prices. The food is delicious and fun to share. They also have a small shop with snacks, small gifts, spices, sauces, etc. I especially liked the duck rolls, veggie tempura, banana tamale, coconut sundae, and beignets!

Hidden gem I can’t gatekeep! Hands down one of the best hole-in-the-wall spots I’ve been to. I had the Gai Kaprow with Kai Dao, and my friend got the roast pork curry the curry alone is worth coming back for 🤤. The atmosphere is chill and unique, blending a mini mart vibe with a cozy restaurant. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the service? Incredible. Our server (possibly the owner) was so kind, made great recommendations, and you can tell she’s passionate about what she does. Definitely adding this to my regular rotation!

Went to here for dinner last min due to a friend’s IG story. Boy did this place not disappoint. At first, it was a bit confusing entering since it’s literally on top of another Thai restaurant, but as soon as you walk in, you can tell by the décor that lots of love and attention were put into this place. From the neon signs to the bamboo decorations, not to mention the lovely lady who was waiting for our table. The food was top-notch due to its unique taste and texture, like fried boiled eggs!!! The price is average, expect to be around $30-40 per person, but it’s highly worth it. Support local businesses!!

Total treasure that has to be discovered. Go up the stairs for the street food. The food is wonderful, the vibe is fun and chill, the service is excellent. First time we did the out with traditional Thai food, and it was tasty. We’ve been wanting to come back and eat in person and so glad we did. We had the fried rockfish with mango - totally hit the spot. Kiddo loved the chicken satay. Creative menu with dim sum. The beignets are worth the trip alone. Beer selection is perfect for the food from micro brews to the Thai beers. Wish I’d gotten more photos.

Tried this place on the recommendation of Tyler Cowen's food blog and it was very tasty. We ordered exclusively from the dim sum menu and took recommendations from the waitress (I would recommend this approach!). Of the items we tried the duck rolls and the samosas were my favorite but everything was great. Will happily return.

Google
We had a wonderful time with Wow as our Guide to street food in Thailand. The small plates, tapas style food was a great way to sample a variety of all very fresh, hot and tasty Thai dishes. We spent 3 weeks in Thailand and this was a great trip down memory lane. Plus, we found Sriracha in their store! Highly recommend them, you'll have a wonderful night with the best Thai hospitality.

Yelp
This place is so underrated - love this spot ! Surprised to see that it was upstairs from Duangrat which is another Thai restaurant that I really like. The waitress was super kind and friendly when we came here; loved her!! Tried some items from their dim sum and their street food menu. Everything was delicious and flavourful ! I was definitely shocked by the duck wrap and beef roti and they were both so tasty with their own seasonings and sauces. Their rice dishes were great too with the meats. Chinese beignets were a great way to end the meal. The spot was empty when I went but was nice to see all the decor, definitely gives off street food vibes alongside the market area next to the dining area. Have to come again for more dishes !!!

Yelp
The food: WOW! The service: WOW! The vibe: WOW! We tried the "Pek Mex" Duck Roll, Mango Cashew Slaw, Chicken Lettuce Wraps, & the Tod Mon (fried fish cake medallions). Each dish was fresh and tasty with every bite! Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
I hate the fact that I've come here twice and this place was empty both times. This place deserves so much love for their amazing food and the amazing service we've received from Wow. First time I came here was for my birthday dinner and what a great choice it turned out to be. We tried so many different things on the menu and all of them were delicious. We were taken care of like we were family the whole night. Everyone in our party was so satisfied with everything. From that night, One Night in Bangkok gained a loyal customer for life. Please give this place all your business but not too much where we have to wait for a table. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
This place is awesome! The decor is festive & the service is friendly. The food is yummy. The restaurant is on the second floor, with the entrance at the front left of the building.

Yelp
This was hard to rate because I want to give it a 4 as the atmosphere is great and I love the menu but the flavors just weren't there. Great foods that we tried were the delicious chicken wings super crispy outside and flavorful inside. I loved the papaya salad it came with as well. Pricing was high for what it was. The food I would not suggest is the Tom yum noodle soup. Flavor was similar to a watered down tomato soup. The spice level wasn't there and I asked for the spiciest level I could get. Catfish was pretty tough and not overly flavored.

Yelp
Went upstairs for one night in Bangkok! I LOVE this concept. It's a market to buy groceries and other goodies, but also a full blown restaurant. I love the neon lights! Really makes you feel like you're in Bangkok. We ordered and I checked out the market while we waited for our food. Our server was really great, told us all the favorites and recommended some stuff. We started with some wontons, dumplings, and chicken wings. Wings and dumplings were really good!! I loved the dumplings the most. I ordered the chicken pad Thai...and I know y'all can tell it was perfect just by looking at the picture! I had PLENTY to take home for lunch the next day and it was still so good! That's key for me. Sometimes it's dried out, nope not here; perfect!!! They have such a large menu, I need to come back and try more things! Check them out if you're in the area!

Yelp
Amazing experience! The place is well decorated, the food is amazing and the staff is super friendly. The waitress was very helpful guiding me through gluten free options. She made amazing recommendations, and also talked to the kitchen to adjust some recipes for me. I started with a noodle chicken salad. It was lemony, with ground chicken, rice noodles, lettuce, onion, cilantro, carrots. A great way to start a meal. Then I got the beef jerky. This was actually my favorite item on the menu. It comes with a delicious sauce, but honestly I could it eat dry and would still love it. It has enough good flavors on its own. I also got the sausage. It was pretty good too with the sauce. The pad kee mao was great. It's the first time a restaurant agreed to make it gluten free. Overall, we had an amazing experience. Everything we ordered was great. I can't wait to go back and try more if their food!

Yelp
This is a new restaurant that is just open about 3 months ago. They are on the second floor of Duangrat. Very different trype of decor. It gives you the thai street food kinda vibe. It has a little market decor area that you could shop at (they have from clothes to snacks to food). The server was super nice and friendly. She congratulated us after we finished our meal, it was honestly kind of cute. We love all the food. The banana tamale was the best type of dessert and it was hot and perfectly sweet so great combination after we ate all the savory dish. The drunken noodles was good. We love the little dim sum menu items from beef jerkey, to chicken dumpling to crab rangoon. The crab rangoon was a bit sweeter than we are normally used to but it's still so sweet. They have such a sweet cute bar area but no mixed or cocktail drinks. Would deff reccommend this place for a cool vibe, insta worthy and something new to try.

Yelp
If you're looking for a hidden gem, this is your spot!!! This place checks all the boxes, the ambience, the wonderful and friendly staff, the quality of food, the decor, and the music. I will definitely be back!! The restaurant also includes a market with a selection of thai snacks, ingredients, handbags, and other knickknacks. Hands down best thai restaurant in the area!!

Yelp
An amazing hidden gem Thai Restaurant. The decor is beautiful, the food is absolutely amazing. So flavorful and delicious Thai food. This was our second time going, and will be going back as often as we I can when I'm in the area. Also the service is amazing, treated with such love and passion. You NEED to get the Chinese Beignets, so so delicious. Make sure to reach this place you go up the stairs. I recommend for EVERYONE!!

Yelp
Truly, a hidden gem! The restaurant has a fun vibe and the service is outstanding. You feel like family when you're there. The food is fresh, flavorful and absolutely delicious. Everything we tried was amazing. My favorite was the crab rangoon. A memorable experience. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
We just had a lovely dinner for my dad's bday at One Night in Bangkok. The food was very good and flavorful, and it was fun to peruse around their small grocery store while we waited for our food. The service was so attentive. When you see Duangrats, walk up the stairs to One night in Bangkok! They need some love and their food is deserving of more customers! The kao soi, papaya salad, crispy rice salad with pork and everything else we had was so good! It was also nice to leave with all the Asian snacks!

Yelp
I came with a group and we were blown away. First of all, it's upstairs from Duangrat Thai, there is parking in the back of the restaurant. It's beautifully decorated. The owner is so friendly and was so helpful in advising people which dishes to get. Everyone's food was fresh and delicious. There are options which are not on the menu, so if you are interested in substitutions or don't see your favorite thai dish, just ask, they will probably make it. I loved the Moo Kao Papow--pork belly with chinese broccoli. I also tried and loved the drunken noodle, pad thai, the lettuce wraps, and the beignets, and I heard that the spicy beef soup was fantastic. Also, the owner was really cool about splitting the check for several people. Highly recommend for group celebrations.

Yelp
Love the food, super authentic with the food I ordered, at least! Yum Woon Sen is super flavorful, and when I asked for spicy, I got spicy!! Boyfriend and I got chicken curry samosas, very flavorful, with a sweet dipping sauce :) And the Roti Milk Roll A La Mode was soooo crispy, and light at the same time?! With their ice cream!! Very, very delicious, hit it home with their food! Service was amazing, very energetic, attentive, and always wants to make sure you're taken care of. Their little shopping section is great too, if you like Euro Cake, or wine, they have it here! Will come back to try their lychee Bellini soon!

Yelp
Had a fantastic lunch. Brought our kids and they loved it too. They have a little market and even pac man game.

Zack P.

Yelp
HIDDEN GEM!! Secreted away upstairs above their sister restaurant, this place is DELICIOUS. We loved the potato samosas, the chicken skewers and the home made beignets were amazing. They also have Mrs PAC Man arcade and a whole little market of foods and things. Worth a visit!

Yelp
First time there way amazing! It's has such a homey vibe with great decor. The wings, spicy beef boat noodles, Yum woon sen, and roast pork curry were all 10/10 recommend! OH AND THE BEIGNETS!! Wow was amazing! The incredible service made it an experience as well!

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! It's so unique in all the best ways. Everything we ate was delicious and well presented. The service was impeccable and the decorations/ambiance is just so fun. Will definitely be back!

Harry M.

Yelp
A little quirky, a lot of great food. The successor to Rabieng with a small market. They have a limited weekday schedule. Today we had a dim sum plate to share, Pad Thai and Dungerat Pork Curry. Excellent, low key and fun. The drink offerings are a bit limited.

Yelp
Excellent services, the lady will happily recommend you what you should get when you first come here, so feel free to ask. Locating upstair so it's hard to find for many people. We order Schrimp Cocktail Salad pretty good and spicy, we also ordered Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodle) and TomYum Gong Noodle soup but too hungry to capture them. The food was flavored perfectly and out of our expectation, we finished it all without left over. They also have mini arcade machine but we forgot to try it. Will come back next time.

Joshua S.

Yelp
SUPER cute Thai Fusion spot! Great food, friendly service, great background music, and all of the food is cooked to perfection.

G P.

Yelp
Everything is excellent. Service is top notch, and the food is so good, with the spicy beef boat noodles being a favorite.

Ashmita S.

Yelp
The best, most authentic Thai street food I have tried in five years of living in northern VA.

Yelp
This food was sooo good and the service was outstanding!! I came in from out of town and had not eaten all day. This was worth the wait!!

Steven H.

Yelp
Wow provided incredible friendly and engaging service. She steered us through the eclectic menu and made great suggestions to optimize pacing and flavor profiles. Food was fantastic, among the best thai in the area with some notable fusion options not available anywhere else. Decor was incredibly fun, bright and vibrant. signage is in the works, if you are going it's the upstairs floor of the building with another Thai resturaunt on the bottom floor.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
This is a must-try!! If we didn't live an hour away we'd come weekly for the delicious food and friendly service. The little market is stocked with tons of unique items too. This spot has small shareable portions and larger plates/bowls as well. You won't be disappointed!

Susan H.

Yelp
Warm and friendly staff, great food selections at this casual street market themed cafe. (Second floor above the elegant and also excellent Dungrat Restaurant)

Marla O.

Yelp
We absolutely LOVED One Night in Bangkok, upstairs from Duangrats (which we also love). The food was delicious and the service was absolutely delightful. So much fun! There is a cute little shop right in the room where you can buy Thai ingredients, and a TV screen showing Thai street food being prepared. Highly recommend.

Shaun M.

Yelp
The food was incredible, and the service was even better. Definitely worth checking out
