My friend and I stopped by around 9pm on a Friday after dinner. We’ve been here a handful of times before since it’s a local dive in the neighborhood. We just wanted one drink before heading home.
We sat at the bar, which was not busy at all, and within a minute or two, the red-haired bartender (who I now see has a reputation for being rude in other reviews) told us the seats were saved for people who were smoking outside. We offered to move down a few seats, but were then told those were taken too.
My friend politely asked, “Where would you like us to sit?” That’s when the bartender completely lost it. It felt like a power trip. We weren’t trying to argue; we were just trying to understand where we could sit, since the bar was nearly empty and the only two spots we tried were somehow off-limits.
A few minutes later, an older white man, who I’m guessing is the manager or owner, came in from outside, and the bartender immediately launched into a loud, exaggerated story about how we were arguing with her. We had already moved and were keeping to ourselves. Not wanting to engage further, we asked for our check, paid, and I stepped outside to call our Uber.
My friend came out and realized she hadn’t gotten her card back. We walked back in to ask for it, and the bartender claimed she had already returned it, which she hadn’t. The same man then told us to leave and never come back.
Absolutely unreal. Unprofessional, hostile, and frankly discriminatory. Based on other reviews, this seems to be a pattern.
There are plenty of other dive bars in Lakewood. This one isn’t worth your time or money. We won’t be back and will be sharing our experience with others.
