Google
We tried five different onigiri and they were all pretty good. Our favorites were the karaage and snow crab. The rice was nice and soft and seasoned. The onigiri were pretty big and filling.

I wanted to like Onigiri Sun, but was pretty disappointed. I ordered one onigiri, the $12 ikura. It took too long - at least 15 minutes for a single onigiri despite there only being a couple orders ahead of us. The onigiri itself tasted good, but for the price was skimpy on the ikura. The food is also all wrapped to-go, so the nori was pretty limp. I'll stick to Rice & Nori, unfortunately.

I'm eating here inside the establishment right now and was told that they don't give out water to customers. They only sell bottle of water. The gal at the register said that's their rules, and she is not going to bend and give me water. I am not sorry to say it. You sell food and allow your customers to sit down. You give out complementary glass of water to your paying customers. That's common sense. The rice ball is loosely squeezed together with a little bit of toppings. They charge you $6.5 to $10 for a riceball with a teaspoon worth of ingredients. But I'm ok with the price since they indicated they use Japanese rice and seaweed. One of my orders is a spicy salmon rice ball, but I got a regular salmon rice ball instead. The manager from the Ramen shop apologized and offered to give me some chili powder to sprinkle onto the rice ball or give me a new one. Yes, I want a new rice ball, please. :) he was nice about it, so the customer service was on point. I tried their other food concepts before, and I like them. They are very well managed. They can do better on this new concept.

Google
I came here to try their rice balls, I ordered the shrimp avocado onigri and there was literally still poop inside the shrimp, which shows that they don't clean before cooking. They also laughed about it instead of showing concern. I was going to let it go, but then I ordered the miso onigri and it was literally ice cold and had a strange texture. The server did alarm me that they would refund, but I had to call my bank and dispute because the refund never came. This place is very dirty and shady, I don't recommend trying. I should have known when I walked into an empty restaurant in the heart of Little Tokyo that something was off!

Google
Popped in for a quick bite while walking around. This was the first time my Mom has tried onigiri, and she’s a fan!

Marcella P.

Google
Every onigiri I tried was delicious! It was a little strange that the eel was cold and the rice was hot. I've never had it prepared like this before. Will return! Staff were kind and gave us a coupon for next time!

Google
Onigiri was perfect. We make our own, and enjoy onigiri regularly, and this was exactly what we needed to hit the spot. Rice was warm and fresh, filling had the right ratio, not too salty

Yelp
I was forced to eat here because one of my friends needed a gluten-free breakfast option near our hotel. Needless to say this food slaps. At least this address is just takeout the couple times I went, but super easy ordering from the iPad. The onigiri are gigantic compared to anything I've got at like a Mitsuwa or other Japanese market, and it's stuffed to the brim with the meat or whatever you decide to get. I've gotten both a 2 and a 3-pack and they came with a miso soup that wasn't bad. I love my favorites like tuna mayo and mentaiko, but some of the limited flavors like chashu wasabi are awesome. If you need no frills take out food in little Tokyo, this is a great option.

Yelp
Located in Daikokuya Annex, this onigiri spot is nestled among many other Little Tokyo gems (only a few steps away from Fugetsu-Do). I ordered via kiosk, but the worker at the front was very kind and open to help if I had any questions, and also offered many condiments when handing me the order. There were many filling options to choose from and I went with the 2 onigiri combo for $13. To be honest, I don't see a huge benefit, as many of the filling options under the combo deal are charged extra anyway. I got the Mentaiko and the Hokkaido Shake ($6.50 and $7, so I saved 50 cents) but probably would've chosen another filling if I just bought them individually. Both were larger than regular onigiri and freshly made. The Hokkaido Shake (grilled salmon) wasn't anything too special and the Mentaiko (pollock roe) was definitely my favorite. The roe was very generous and I would order it again if I came back. The combo also came with a complimentary miso soup. Although there are signs signifying that this location is take-out only, they welcome customers to sit in and dine (food will just be packaged to go). Overall, this spot is a bit pricy but good if you're looking for a more filling meal than a small snack onigiri.

Yelp
Todays breakfadt combo was mid. $9.00 for 1 mentaiko onigiri, pickles and 2 pcs of egg and miso soup. - they shorted me and only gave me 1 egg - the rice was not fresh, maybe day old - they give alot less mentaiko than before (66% LESS) But the pickles were tasty and fresh! The miso soup was nice and hot. I was there 8am maybe next time I will go later to ensure fresher food.

Yelp
Yummy onigiri.....I forgot to take picture :( Its a take out only, and you order at a kiosk. We ordered 2 tuna mayo, 2 salmon ikura, 1mentaiko, and 1pickled veggie/mentaiko. Total came out to about $65? Which i thought was a little pricey but, the size was pretty big and had lots of filling, the rice was really good. It makes a great snack or lunch on the go.

Yelp
Food: The onigiri was decent--not mind-blowing, but a solid quick bite if you're in the mood for something simple and filling. Service: The workers were super nice and helpful, which made the experience really smooth, especially if it's your first time there. Ambiance: The place is small and split into two sides: a to-go area with a more casual vibe and a seated restaurant-style section. The to-go side has a few seats and uses a self-serve kiosk to order, which makes things pretty easy.

Yelp
HUGE onigiri. It was so good and I could only eat 1. I got the tempura onigiri but also tried the spicy salmon one. Also got the chicken karaage and it was BOMB. Staff is super nice, welcoming, and helpful. Highly recommended, will definitely come back

Yelp
You might miss this place since it's inside Daikokuya Annex! I went on a weekday during lunch time and it was empty (luckily). They have you order through a digital kiosk at the front. I had their three-onigiri combo for $19. Note that there are some onigiri options that are an extra $1 or $2. The person helping me out recommended their beef, karage, and their stamina yakiniku (grilled pork with yakiniku). I opted for the beef, grilled salmon, and unagi options. The beef was sweet, reminded me of Korean bulgogi. The grilled salmon was my least favorite. It was a bit dry to my liking, reminding me of canned fish. The unagi was my favorite, covered in the usual unagi sauce, it had good chunks of eel. All onigiris had a hefty amount of rice, so it gets pretty filling. Not sure if it's for all orders, but mine came with some miso soup, which is always a plus when there's no extra cost for it. I think they make everything on the spot since it did take a bit of time to receive my order with no one else at the restaurant, so I can imagine it taking longer when it does get busier.

Yelp
ONIGIRI SUN is located in DAIKOKUYA ANNEX. It's like a food hall... you enter, place your order in a kiosk thing and then wait for your name to be called. There are at least 3 different "restaurants" (maybe less? maybe more?)you can order from in the kiosk and ONIGIRI SUN is one of them. Their onigiri selection is very good. We the 3-Piece Combo item where you could pick and choose 3 different onigiris and it came with miso soup. So far, we liked all the onigiris we ordered. Even came back a month later (yes, this review is for two different visits) and we still liked what we got. Spicy Tuna Spicy Salmon Miso Beef Shrimp Tempura Soboro Beef You can dine-in too. There are several tables inside where you can enjoy.

Yelp
Made a quick snack break here. I'm vegetarian and there were several options on their menu. I really enjoyed my takana onigiri (pickled mustard leaves and sesame oil). I just love Little Tokyo and enjoyed this pop-up food shop.

Yelp
Came by for a quick snack while exploring LA . It was sorta hard to find because it's actually a pop up in Daikokuya Annex so if you wanna stop by make sure you look for that restaurant!! We ordered the spicy tuna, hokkaido shake, and okaka in a 3 piece combo. It also came with miso soup which was a nice surprise. Each onigiri had a great ratio of rice and filling. When eating each one I never ran out of filling. The quality of the fillings weren't that great though. The tuna and salmon were giving canned fish which would deter me from ordering it again. The okaka had soooooo much bonito though and it was my favorite bite of the meal. It did take a bit for us to take our food so they were making it fresh to order. You are able to dine in but the food will just come in Togo boxes. The restaurant was a little dark and did have an odd smell though so next time I would take the onigiris to eat somewhere else. Overall I would say it's not bad. If I'm in the area and want onigiri I would try other items on the menu. But I wouldn't go out of my way during my trips to LA to come visit it.

Yelp
Pretty gas. Popup inside Daikokuya Annex. Ordered through screens, onigiri came out fast & rice was fluffy and fresh. Got the mentaiko which was SO delicious and had a nice light amount of spice to it. Def some of the best onigiri I've ever had, clears Rice & Nori (and I love Rice & Nori).
google avatar

Christal P.

Yelp
Polite service and simple order system. The onigiri is a large and filling snack or meal on the go. A good option for breakfast if you are staying in Little Tokyo. It opens early at 8:00 am.
google avatar

Yelp
The onigiri that I purchased were so delicious! The unagi was so flavorful and abundant. It must've had a whole eel in there and the rice was so soft. The sauce wasn't too sweet and had the right amount of savory. The ikura with the salmon flakes was good too and I got another one but can't remember the combination. I got the 3 set but, I'm not sure if this is a common order. It is a little pricey but, it's worth it cause the onigiri is huge! Enough for 2 people if you reckon to split it. The gentleman that took my order was really nice and told me it would take about 20 mins to make which, didn't bother me cause then I knew it was gonna be fresh! I wish the parking situation was a little better and they had a full sit down restaurant but, if I'm ever back in little Tokyo (and I go often) I will definitely go back for the unagi

Yelp
I was here close to opening time, and the food was great, I tried all their vegan options. Another plus was that their service was fast. Will be coming here again soon.

Yelp
The rare Japanese breakfast scene in little Tokyo just got a major boost. My husband and I greatly enjoyed starting our days with good Miso Soup, Onigiri filled with spicy salmon, tasty tamago omelet, pickled veg, and green tea. Not only was the food fresh and delicious. It was a precious quiet and healthy way to start the day. The service was lovely and the ordering portal was very easy to use. Price-wise we spent around $20 for two meals and our tea. In LA this is a treat :) It's been few weeks and we are still thinking about this simple but satisfying meal. I don't know how busy this restaurant is during lunch but it appears to be a perfect getaway in the morning when not much is open. We will definitely return.

Yelp
My youngest recently celebrated his 19th birthday and wanted to have dinner here. This was our first time coming to Onigiri Sun. This spot is located in Little Tokyo. We drove around the block for days til we realized there's a few parking garages and free public parking around the corner. After we finally found a place to park, walking is literally just a block or two away and tons of other cool shops to check out. I don't know how I feel about the pricing for the onigiri. 3 for $20 is a little pricier than I expected. It was delicious and I feel that you definitely should try it out for your experience. I really liked that we were also able to order ramen off of the Daikokuya menu and we didn't have to wait in line like everyone else next door. We literally ordered at the kiosk and got our food shortly in less than 15min. The birthday boy said he absolutely loved the onigiri and wants to come back, so we will definitely be back. Me and my husband shared the classic Daikokuya ramen and both my boys ordered the spicy miso. Both ramens were delicious and I would definitely get it again. The ramen egg was pretty good, it tasted a little sweeter than other ramen eggs that I've tried, but it was definitely delicious. We ordered a total of 8 onigiris and I tried the stamina yakiniku, karaage, tuna and the Hokkaido. My favorite from the 4 was definitely the stamina yakiniku and my husband's was the tuna. My boys tried other flavors and my youngest enjoyed them so much and looks forward to the next visit. If you have never tried onigiri then this is the place. I would definitely recommend this place. You also get a complimentary miso soup with your onigiri. I also really love that they served some Asian drinks. I had the melon cream soda and my boys got the mango cream soda, I need to find a place that sells these sodas... soo good.

Yelp
Tucked away but also in collaboration with the Daikokuya Annex, Onigiri Sun is a new staple of the area. $5-6 will get you a single Onigiri, but they offer $15 meal sets. These are NOT your standard grocery store $2 Onigiri, they're piping hot and handmade to order, absolutely stuffed with your choice or filling and easily double the size of your standard Onigiri. We ordered the Spicy Eggplant off the new menu and were blown away, it didn't last even 2 minutes. The quality is high, the service is easy since it's through touch screens, and the restaurant itself is spotless and open so you can watch the chefs cook. A new gem in the already oversaturated Little Tokyo area!

Yelp
I've had onigiri before, but never as good as this. Most places sell them premade and cold, but here you get them made to order and fresh. Located on the Daikokuya Annex, you can order the onigiri here via kiosks. The dining area is casual with some tables to dine in for a quick bite or you can take your order to go. Let's talk about the onigiri. The rice is warm, the toppings and fillings fresh, and the portions are generous. You can order them individually or in combos of 2 or more (they also have catering!) and the combos come with a miso soup. I also like that you can customize them. Most onigiri have one filling, but with customizations you can add a second filling or topping. The kiosk offers complementary recommendations and those are the ones I chose. Not including the customizations, they have thirteen different onigiri to choose from. They have meat, seafood, vegetarian, and vegan options. I tried a few different ones including the soboro beef (+ add shiitake), stamina yakiniku, mentai mayo cream cheese, Hokkaido shake salmon (+add mentaiko), shiitake, and honey umeboshi. They were equally delicious and unique; I really loved how creamy the mentaiko mayo cream cheese was as that texture was different from the rest. They also have a selection of drinks and some desserts. They have soft drinks, canned teas, and coffee drinks. As a coffee lover, I had to try it. It's actually not coffee, but a brown rice "coffee" drink. I liked the flavor as it resembled a tea latte. It contained soy milk and was sweetened with kuromitsu - a syrup that tasted like maple. They serve a custard that has that syrup as well as a matcha tiramisu.
google avatar

Julie T.

Yelp
This is their to-go spot where you can order quickly or dine-in with your items in a take-out fashion. I enjoy their spam onigiri and it comes with lots of yellow pickled radish. The regular karaage is good but the spicy version is soggy because of the spicy sauce. The seaweed on the onigiri isn't toasted so you might have a hard time getting a good bite. There is complimentary miso soup with your order and if you have any questions, the staff is helpful. You place your order on a touch screen and if you choose the dine-in option, your food will be brought to you.

Yelp
Onigiri Sun become permanent extension now. Part of Daikokuya Annex. Bishamon Group. They offer the limited ramen menu to go. Nice option instead of waiting long line next door at the main restaurant. Onogiri menu good as usual. I think it's better than soft opening. Better package and presentation. Always come with miso soup. Very salty. Service is quite fast. Ambiance is nice sit down dinner with plenty of space. 2 restroom at the back

Yelp
Finally a great Onigiri spot!! Service was fast! One bite was delicious! I tried a variety. Each one is about $6 bucks and i feel they put a fair amount of rice and filling! I definitely will be coming back!! Try it out! You might get full off of two then take some home! Great service and clean inside.
google avatar

Mika C.

Yelp
So yummy and I need them to extend their pop up!!! You can't find this variety of onigiri anywhere. The yakiniku and takana + mentaiko were delicious. The tuna was classic but could use a bit more flavor to standout. The rice makes a big portion of the quality of rice balls. Super fluffy and tasty. I really like their coffee made out of rice. First time ever trying it and it's light and fairy sweet. I still felt the caffeine I needed as well. I will definitely make another trip soon!!
google avatar

Chloe T.

Yelp
A place to get a quick bite if you're in Little Tokyo. It has 2 kiosks to easily order and pay. My friends and I got the 3 onigiris: Spam, Tuna, and Chicken Karaage. These onigiris were freshly made with lots of rice and filling. The karaage was my favorite! There wasn't a lot of spam in the spam onigiri which is a shame :( Each order comes with miso soup which I thought was yummy! I do have to say it was pricey. It was about $20 total for the 3 and I'm not sure how I feel about that yet lol

Yelp
Onigiri sun from Japan Price range $6.50-7 Wait time: can be a of a long wait if you're rushing to go. It's around 15-25 min, depending how busy they are. We ordered Tuna and Mentaijo. I feel that it was ok. The rice does fall off the ball, which beats the purpose of the shape. I felt that both were a tad bit salty, but it was decent pairing with rice. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE SobBeef and Grilled Salmon (Hokkaido shake). It was so good. It's the ones that is on display. I should have gotten that both times. It's perfectly seasoned, not too salty. It's so good with the Japanese rice and Miso Soup if you pick the 2 combos. It's kinda like a Togo place that serves food in Togo containers but you can eat inside. There are tables which you can sit. Location: inside Daikokuya Annex Order from the 2 Kiosk. If you order 2 or 3 Oniguri, they give you free miso. The miso is so good with the Oniguri.

Seth

Yelp
This place is a gem. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious. The staff were pleasant and the food came out fast. Visited Little Tokyo with friends, and it was so good that we had to come two days in a row. I definitely recommend the shrimp tempura and the eel, although everything was great.
google avatar

Gracie E.

Yelp
Super tasty spot with gluten free and vegetarian options! (idk about vegan) I highly recommend the 2 piece combo with shrimp tempura and spicy karaage chicken, as it comes with miso soup!
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
A self-ordering kiosk makes it easy for each person to order what their heart desires. A few doors from the famous ramen shop. It turns out they sell their ramen here. So skip the long line, walk a few steps and enjoy your ramen with a riceball or two. Our food arrived fast, hot and delicious. A place to meet up for a quick bite.
google avatar

Daniel Z.

Yelp
Fast service and they pack them with so much filling. It was incredibly delicious so get it before they close!

Yelp
Omg these onigiris were SOLID! Can't wait to take my Japanese mom with me to get her verdict next visit! The pop up store is only until early Nov so run to the store before they're gone! +you probably know the drill if you've dined in this area but no dedicated parking lot for daikokuya. Street parking available but if you want to park in a structure go to parking lot on central ave that's close to 1st street snd central. +onigiri sun is a pop up store inside daikokuya annex. There's about five 4 seater tables inside so you can dine in or take the food to go. I would 100% recommend eating onigiri/rice balls right away. The onigiris just doesn't taste the same when the seaweed is no longer crisp and wilted and rice is cold. +daikokuya annex has about 4 self order kiosk which is nice. Since it's part of daikokuya annex you can order daikokuya menu along with onigiri, desserts, etc so if you want additional food item besides onigiri, it'd be perfect. +im Japanese so I like all the classic flavors. This visit I got konbu/sweetened seaweed and mentaiko/spicy cod roe. Both of my onigiris were so goooood. The toppings are good quality and I can tell that they try not to squish the onigiri too hard so the rice is nice and fluffy. The onigiri itself is pretty huge so I was wondering if the rice / topping ratio would be off but they actually fill the inside of onigiri so I was able to enjoy my onigiri thoroughly. This was my boyfriend's 2nd visit and he says so far his favorites are stamina and mentaiko but he generally liked everything he tried so far! +if you get 2 or 3 onigiri combo it comes with side of miso soup. I ordered 2 onigiri combo with miso soup and I was pretty content. If you're a big eater I still think 3 would get you pretty full since it's the onigiris are so big! +someone complained about wait time on another review but I didn't wait long! I came here on Friday around 4pm and waited about 15 mins for 4 onigiris and miso soup. There was 1 group ahead of us and for fresh onigiri made with care that sounds fair.

Yelp
Yum! Onigiri Sun is an onigiri-ya from Japan. The onigiris range from $5-$7 depending on the filling that you choose (the salmon is $7 and most of the vegetarian options are $5). Onigiri Sun is a pop up restaurant located inside the Daikokuya Annex (which is in the storefront next-door to Daikokuya). You walk in, order and pay at the contactless kiosk, and there are plenty of tables/chairs if you're dining in. There is also the option to get your order as takeout. I got the Hokkaido shake and the Stamina yakiniku. Both of the onigiris are very big. I got the 2 onigiri set - so it comes with a miso soup. I highly recommend you eat it there because the nori gets soft pretty quickly. The rice is very high quality - chewy and tasty. I liked the stamina yakiniku more than the hokkaido shake, but both fillings were a little bit underwhelming. The yakiniku didn't have much of a "meat" texture to the filling that I was expecting. The shake was like a shredded salmon with salt - it was salty but tasted a little bare bones. If I'm ever back, I'd love to try the mentaiko! From ordering at the kiosk to receiving my food, my total wait time was under 10 minutes. I went on a Tuesday evening (around 6PM) and there was no one else there.
google avatar

Sandy M.

Yelp
Pop up onigiri restaurant here until November. I never had onigiri made fresh and with so many different toppings. Opted for the soboro beef (ground beef) and stamina yakiniku (pork). Since it is made fresh, it takes maybe about 5 min, which isn't too bad. Grab a seat and eat these and you won't regret it. It's really good eaten hot, with a nice crisp on the seaweed, hot fluffy rice, and hot meats. Stamina yakiniku was really good - although it was a bit salty. Just make sure to eat it with lots of rice and It'll balance out. If you like ginger, you'll like soboro beef. It was sweet and very gingery. It was great to be able to wash it down with a miso soup. If you're getting 2, definitely get the combo because you're basically getting a miso soup for free. Come and try it before the pop up is gone.

Christian P.

Yelp
My first time trying onigiri and it was good! I think the I'd prefer more filling than rice ratio personally but I enjoyed it :)
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
Onigiri Sun is a temporary pop up until Nov 2023 at the Daikokuya Annex that serves, you guessed it ONIGIRIS. There are a handful of tables but it's mainly for Togo and pick ups. When you come in you're ordering yourself at one of two kiosks. Soboro - ground beef was good. Lots of marinade and was on the sweeter side. Karaage - my favorite out of the bunch. loved the juicy chicken with good flavor Mentaiko - For mentaiko lovers. Lots of mentaiko Spam - not what I expected in a good way. It's on the more peppery side with small chunks of spam. It's not the best spam onigiri I had but very good and different

Yelp
Great food. Great staff. It's my go-to spot when I want consistency on a quality quick pick up spot on the way home.

Yelp
OH MY GOD. Look I love onigiri. I will go through random periods where I only want to eat onigiri. I wanted to hit up Rice and Nori in Little Tokyo but it was closed--so I decided to try the new Onigiri Sun. LET ME SAY - it may cost more than you'd expect onigiri to, but it is well worth every penny. I got the 2pc combo with the eel and stamina yakiniku that comes with two sides (I chose karaage and potato croquette), miso soup, and a soda. The stamina yakiniku had so much meat filling and it was so flavorful! The rice was a perfect consistency. The meat had a tiny bit of kick. 5/5 AND THE EEL. I love eel onigiri. The only other place that has it is Gam Tu Bop in Glendale and there's is alright. this was SO good. I don't know if it's because they did not skimp out on the sauce or they seasoned it perfectly or what but it was so good. 5/5 Also the portions were insane. These are BIG rice balls. Definitely 1 can fill you up. I was struggling to finish both plus the sides. Also the miso soup? Tasted very premium. Idk what it is. It's a nice concentration of miso in it. The karaage and croquette were also good. The seaweed wrapping the onigiri did get a bit soggy but it's kind of expected since I got it to go. Definitely well worth the price. I'm excited to go back and try more!

Yelp
Sunday 7pm Parking/Wait: Street parking or paid parking structure. Rare to get free parking in Little Tokyo unless you know :). Self-serve kiosks so there was no wait. Food/Drinks: Ordered a bunch of their Onigiri. They were a decent 4/5. The main problem I have with them is how they are packaged. They don't seperate the seaweed and the rice, which causes the seaweed to get pretty welted and soft fast. I think most people would get takeout here, so their food might not be the best by the time they eat at home. Ambiance/Service: They have some indoor seating so you can eat there after you order from the kiosk. Food was ready in about 10 minutes. Summary: Decent Onigiri place. I would suggest eating there, since they don't seperate the seaweed so it will get welted. Wish they would package it better :/

Yelp
I was excited to try this place. I've never had freshly made Onigiri. I was also excited they close at 10pm. I'm working on a show nearby and can get food at odd times. A lot of places are close. I got there around 8:40pm and I was told it was take out only. There were guests sitting there. You order at a touch screen. No one was there to help. I ordered the 3 piece combo and I added a 4th because I couldn't decide. It took awhile even though I was the only new customers. I took my food back. The combo comes a with miso soup and it in a thin plastic container and no spoon so I burned my hands I ordered the Pork, Kataage, Tuna and I swore I clicked in Salmon. They were good. Pork was alright. I couldn't figure out which was the Karaage or the Salmon. Later I looked at my receipt and I got the Spicy cod for with cream cheese. It was $32 (with tip). Besides the tuna and the pork, I couldn't really tell what I was eating. I might try again. They're only there until til 11/9 but there are so many other food options in Little Tokyo so might pass.

Yelp
Mediocre it's nothing to describe this .. was hoping to get a small snack and ordered the snow crab Onigiri.. oh boy... this thing was nasty... so salty... never had such a horrible one.. place it's empty on a Saturday night while all the other businesses are packed.. that says a l

Yelp
first off, the size of these are at least 2x bigger than the onigiri you find at combini when in japan. i ended up with the snow crab, tempura shrimp, and pork chashu w/egg. the pork chashu w/egg is very basic but the tempura shrimp and snow crab onigiri were better. you can get a pick any 3 w/ side of miso soup for $18. i would suggest ordering ahead of pick up as it does take some time to make (my order took around 15min on a slow night) if you are in an in/pick up/out rush. i will give another try down the line. i just hate finding parking in little tokyo.

Yelp
These onigiris are fire! To be very honest I would give it a 4/5 HOWEVER I do not agree with the overall rating of this place so I'm willing to give them 5 stars to hopefully raise the rating. I have no complaints with regard to food quality, portion, price, service, and ambiance. It's not the most fancy place, it's a quick bite type of place so if you're looking for a sit-down restaurant this is not the right place. This is perfect for if you're hungry and you want good quality food for an approachable price. The only thing that would make it better is if the filling was stuffed better, i.e. filling distributed evenly on the rice. Usually onigiris are smaller but since the filling is gourmet it makes sense! Anyways it's a really good casual spot in little Tokyo that serves excellent onigiris :)

Yelp
many employee, so slow to get my order. Parking is expensive in little tokyo. Please understand it. Onigiri was delicious..

Yelp
Best onigiri you can get. It's only a shame you have to go all the way to little Tokyo to get but I'd say it's worth the trip. You get a lot of food for the money.

Yelp
This happened just yesterday. An employee was being disrespectful to me. During my lunch break, I went to this place to get some onigiri before going back to work. I was waiting for my orders which already took quite some time, and I overheard the employee at the register telling the kitchen staff over the bar seating that they forgot to include one of the onigiris that I have ordered. That resulted in an even longer waiting time. As if that wasn't frustrating enough, here is what prompted me to write this review: One of the kitchen staff was laughing at me. I was waiting for my order to be done and one of the kitchen staff was laughing, grinning widely, very visibly amused for a good minute at the sight of me waiting while being frustrated due to the delay resulted from THEIR mistake. In case you're wondering, no, there was no other customer at the time when this was happening, and he was not looking at other employees who were busy with something else, he very clearly looked straight at me and was very entertained by my annoyance. I didn't even say anything. I did NOT rush them, I did NOT say things like "Is my order done yet?", "Can you guys hurry up?" or anything else such as those. In fact, I said nothing. I just stood there looking at the kitchen to wait for my order, and there he was, laughing at me because the sight of a customer inconvenienced by his/his co-workers' mistake makes his day. After finally getting my order, I hurriedly went back to the break room in my work place because there's not much time left for my lunch break. After I finished eating the onigiri and still feeling frustrated at what happened, I ultimately decided to go back to Onigiri Sun and complained about what happened to a senior level (manager?) employee over there. Unfortunately, the kitchen staff in question was not present at the time, so I could not point him out. Thankfully the senior employee sincerely apologized to me about what happened and that's the only reason I gave a second star in this review.

Yelp
I'm leaving 2/5 stars because I had 2 problems with the order. One was the packaging and the other was the price. Vibe: This pop up was inside of Daikokuya Annex in Little Tokyo. The place looked like a tiny food court and I saw someone eating rice balls off a hotdog paper plate :-( Food: I got 3 rice balls to-go. I love Mentaiko but maybe I'm used to non-salty food these days. I thought that was a bit too salty even as Mentaiko. But maybe I'm too picky :-) The taste was average. I mean it in the positive way. Packaging: The rice balls were laid flat in the container and Mentaiko was leaking. When I grabbed the rice ball, it crumbled. I had to use a spoon to eat it. It defeats the purpose of eating a rice ball, doesn't it? Price: Their rice balls are very expensive! Michelin's Bib Gourmand restaurant in Japan serves 3 rice balls and miso soup for $7 (¥1,100). There are also, many cool rice ball shops in Japan. And their prices are ranging from $1.50 to $3 each. Yes, yes, I know this is not Japan so I shouldn't compare but rice balls are low cost food even with imported ingredients. Sometimes I can't help myself thinking about these things. I was already in Little Tokyo so I was happy to try them but come on, nobody will buy this average-taste rice ball for $6.50-$7 (¥950-¥1,050) in Japan. I paid $24 w tax and tip (¥3,500) for 3 rice balls. The price was definitely unmatched with the food and the service I received. Do you guys think this is worth the price? I thought it was outrageous. lol

Yelp
Was really excited to try this place when I heard about it. I tried all the meat and seafood onigiri options except the mentaiko with cream cheese. I will be comparing this to rice and nori as that's my go to place for onigiri. TLDR: the tuna and mentaiko at onigiri sun is miles better while the salmon is better at rice and noris. The spam at onigiri sun is really good too. Id give it a 6.5/10 overall. Nothing mind blowing but still enjoyable. Staring with the meat options, I felt like the yakiniku and soboro beef were alright. If you're a fan of sweeter meats then you'll probably like it a lot more than I did. Both of them were pretty similar in taste so not really much to say. As for the karaage it was pretty decent but could have used more seasoning, possibly bigger pieces of chicken. The karaage was chopped up to ground beef size so there wasn't much of crisp to the chicken. The spam I thought was the best out of the 4 meat options. It was nice and savory, and the pickled radish added some nice acidity. Warning though, if you don't like pickled things I would stay away. My gf is not a fan of pickles at all and had to spit it out. But for me personally it was really good. Now for the seafood I tried everything except the mentaiko with cream cheese. Starting with the tuna, I thought it was really nicely seasoned and blew away rice and noris version no contest. A really solid choice for a safe and traditional onigiri flavor. Then we have the mentaiko. This one also was way better than rice and noris mentaiko. Super well seasoned and they give you way more filling compared to rice and nori. The salmon on the other hand was kinda disappointing. It was just salmon and rice. A bit on the plain side but not bad. Was just hoping for something a bit more because the tuna was superb. Overall I would go back only for the spam tuna and mentaiko. Price wise it is on the more expensive side compared to rice and nori but they are slightly bigger per riceball. Id give it a 6.5/10 overall. Nothing mind blowing but still enjoyable.

Yelp
YUKO & DAI & HARU are the CUTEST!! Food is ! Honestly the best customer service, most authentic Japanese food served by the kindest Japanese people. All-around my favorite place to eat in Little Tokyo from now on! Absolutely amazing.
