Oorja Indian Dining - Review - Soho - London - The Infatuation

"A hop, skip, and cortisol-spiked jump from London’s very own tourist Bermuda triangle—the theatre showing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Shaftesbury Avenue, and big McDonald’s—is Oorja Indian Dining. This is an area for fleeing from people who know a little too much about Gryffindor, fleeting sloppy late-night kisses, or eating something in under five minutes flat. But this all-day Indian spot does things differently. Once you’re through the doors, the chaos of Cambridge Circus mutes and morphs into light rattan, dark wooden beams, and fragrant wafts of biryani. The creamy butter chicken and charred naan aren’t trying to be anything other than comforting and it’s a handy place to know about if the area’s fast food spots aren’t going to cut it. In fact, it’s so useful for a last-minute run-in with your favourite out-of-towner or a quickfire client breakfast that we’re willing to overlook the novelty touch lamp ordering system and the brown satin bibs on every table. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Pause Unmute Food Rundown Garlic Butter Naan If any vampires are currently reading this, we might have found the naan for you. It’s very light on the garlic flavour but we have a history of doubling the clove count in any recipe, so take that with a pinch of salt. No matter how strong your affiliation with our favourite breath annihilator is, know that the crust on this naan has an excellent chew factor. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Butter Chicken The chicken is a little tougher than we’d like it to be but this sauce understands indulgence. It’s rich, buttery, with a nice hum of nutty cashew. Vegetable Biryani The best thing at Oorja is the flaky pastry hat on top of their biryani. For those partial to a little carbohydrate ASMR, it makes an exceptional crunching noise as you dig your spoon in and the rice is packed full of green beans and onion, with a slightly floral, herby flavour. London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Oorja is a big, beige-toned Indian restaurant on Shaftesbury Avenue. It’ll be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with dishes like the Oorja Morning Kebab—with chicken and lamb, saffron rice, grilled tomatoes, and a fried egg—braised beef short ribs, and railway lamb curry. There are express lunch and tiffin menus too." - team infatuation

Went to celebrate my daughter’s birthday and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The food was absolutely delicious, bursting with brilliant flavours that left us wanting more. The service from everyone was warm and attentive, with special thanks to Lovely, the head of serving staff, who made us feel truly welcome. Amit’s cocktails were a real treat – beautifully made and just as tasty, definitely Kesariya is a great cocktail. With its charming atmosphere and all-round excellence, I’d definitely recommend this place and will gladly visit again.

People are having a good time. Talking , laughing and enjoying their meals. We ordered 5 dishes to share between the 4 of us. Sid was our waiter and was amazing. They have lamps on the tables that you change the color when you want the waiter. So nice to not have servers constantly checking on you. Wish this place would open in the US.

Wow!! We dropped in without a booking at 6pm on a Saturday evening. What a delight!! There is ample seating on the ground floor and basement. There are aprons provided and come in handy when wearing a white shirt! They use a light system at the table to signal when you need table service. Staff are friendly and attentive and give good recommendations and information about food. Toilets downstairs are clean, but downstairs in basement. Not sure about accessibility for wheelchair users.

Very good set lunch option for £21. Surprising to find this nice Indian option in the very centre. Ingredients were fresh, meat & prawn cooked to the best tenderness, good flavouring too. The curry itself was alright. Con: - The main menu looks slightly overpriced. - it took half an hour for our food to come at a quiet time

We had the best experience here for my friend’s birthday. Our waitress was called Lovely, and she really was lovely by name and nature. Some of the best Indian food I’ve ever eaten, it was that good we ordered extra to take home for dinner tomorrow 🤣 and the cocktails were just incredible. My personal favourite was The Royal Fizz. Together with atmosphere, unreal! Can’t recommend enough.

Good spot for classic Indian food - loved the aloo chaat, the tutti frutti yoghurt bombs, the paneer tikka and the lamb kebabs. The biryanis with raita were okay, not the biggest fan. Service was good, definitely new and some teething issues, but no complains. The decor is quite nice and there’s a lot of space, which is nice to see. Overall good and reliable spot - they’re not reinventing Indian cuisine, but was good for the classics.

The food was incredible! Love that this is a hidden gem off the corner of Tottenham Court Road. Such a gem of a spot and would highly recommend as Devenshu was a brilliant server/ host! The food was huge and such an excellent price. If you’re stuck for somewhere to go, would HIGHLY recommend!
