The 12 Best Seafood Restaurants In Jacksonville, 2021 | Eater Miami

"Since opening in 2018 OP Fish House and Oyster Bar has been bringing in customers who are hungry for seafood but live an hour or more from the docks of the beaches and Mayport. The restaurant gets its seafood delivered daily from local purveyors, including trigger fish, shrimp, and gulf oysters. Orange Park locals love dining here on Wednesdays when oysters are 75 cents each all day long."

I had a great dining experience at OP Fish House! The highlight of my meal was the pan-seared grouper with lump crab cake—perfectly cooked, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The grouper was tender with a beautifully crisp sear, and the crab cake was packed with sweet, succulent crab meat—no filler, just quality. The atmosphere outside was nice, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. You can really tell they care about both the ingredients and the guest experience. If you're looking for a place that truly knows how to handle fresh seafood, OP Fish House is a must-try. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
The restaurant was really nice. The service was great. It was quaint. I enjoyed the back house vibe. As for the food. We ate a fish sandwich and a shrimp poboy. Let me start off by saying the fish was exceptionally fresh tasting. It was good. I enjoyed the fries. I enjoyed the cole slaw. the shrimp was fresh it was good. Simple. The downside, This fish wasn't seasoned at all. I am not a big seasoning guy when I cook but when I go out maybe after having lived in South so long, I expect a really tasty well seasoned fried catfish. This cat fish flavor was flat. If they added some salt to the fish fry batter I think it would have taken the sandwich from a 3 to a 10 real quick with how fresh it was. Would I go back? Maybe to try some of the oysters or whole fish meals yes.

I was visiting family in Florida and really wanted some seafood and this is what popped up so my family and I came here and man it did not disappoint. On Monday's they have a cool variety of promotions and one was what we wanted because we wanted crabs!! They also have military discount and kids eat free today I think with an entrée. The waitress was exceptional and amazing all around. She was so sweet and attentive and went above and beyond. Every dish has great flavors and seasoned to perfection. The crab legs were the best and so deliciously cooked. The whole place was nice and comfy. I strongly recommend this place for seafood and the ambiance.

Google
New find. First visit. The service is nice. The food is incredible. It's a bit strange setup. 2 old houses but one business. Don't go to the front. It's a mess 2 separate porches. The one on the left goes nowhere. The place really needs a good cleaning. It's very dirty. Molded food was on the mini blinds. Come on buy some new blinds at Family Dollar. The floors were dirty, our table was dirty. The walls are dirty. I can't imagine how the kitchen must look. But the lobster sliders were incredible. The lobster cooked perfectly and the hamburger seasoning was on point. Just excellent. The shrimp and grits was delicious. The fried Mahi-Mahi, great! They messed up my order and brought plain fries, I wanted sweet potato fries. But she realized her error and fixed it immediately. I wished they would clean it up.

Enjoyed the brunch with daughter celebrating her birthday. The crab cake croissant was good with a fried egg. Did not like grit’s lumpy. Service was good and greeted with a smile.

Google
Perfect. We wanted to try a fish restaurant and this was close to our hotel. I ordered the whole flounder and my wife got the Crab cake croissant. The flounder was a fresh fish option and was definitely the best, light, tender. They offered both tarter sauce and cocktail sauce which we enjoyed. I asked for extra lemons which added the right touch. The Crab cakes on the croissant were good but definitely not like a fresh Maryland crabcake. We really liked the sides. Coleslaw, pimento grits and arugula salad with corn were good. Nice place and attentive service.

Google
I’ve always been a big fan on OP Fish House for years! They’re so good and consistent. Yesterday I went for brunch and got the shrimp & grits. BEST shrimp and grits EVER. Couple that with the bottomless mimosas. Sooo good. Mallory was such a great server, she was really just the cherry on top for the whole experience.

Google
My experience at OP Fish House was absolutely amazing! I’ve visited a few times for their oysters, but last night I celebrated my birthday dinner there and they truly went above and beyond. We had a party of about 13 people, and they were able to accommodate us with the entire right side of the building, which felt so special. The manager even provided a speaker so we could connect and play our own music—such a thoughtful touch! Our server, Bella, was nothing short of phenomenal. Her customer service skills are top tier—she was attentive, engaging, and got every order correct. She interacted with us in such a genuine way and even made me feel extra special by wishing me happy birthday more than once. Bella truly elevated the night and made the whole experience unforgettable. Highly recommend OP Fish House for any occasion, but especially if you want great food, an amazing atmosphere, and top-notch service!

Yelp
Ughhh I wanted to like OpFish House. I had heard raves and read great reviews. We sat at the bar to circumvent a 45 minute wait, 3:30 on a Sunday. We had ordered drinks and food was at table before the bartender mentioned the ac didn't work on that side of the building, it was 93° outside at that moment. We ordered 2 Shark tales drinks, I do not drink i requested something that doesnt taste like alcohol. Bartender suggested The Shark tales drink. It is just straight up tossing a bunch of sweet mixers in a cup with a candy shark garnish. Once Mixed the drink comes out the color and transpranency of dirty paint water, not appetizing. The food was cooked well, all came from kitchen in timely manner. The fried tomatoes and calamari cooked to perfection. We left after entrees were delivered to table. Took it home in boxes. It was upon trying to eat the entrees I realized both the po boy sandwich and the hot lobster roll had pimento cheese schmeared - both NOT Po boy sauce OR Butter as the menu described. No where in the description of either sandwich is pimento cheese listed. I don't want pimento cheese on EVERY part of my meal. Yuck, we were not able to eat either sandwich. Plus I ended up with sweet potato fries and marshmallow fluff?? I didn't even ask for sweet potato fries. Why do they come with marshmallow fluff?? Why? So much damn sugar!! The whole stupid menu a sugary nastiness covered in HOMEMADE pimento cheese. Such bullshit for a $120 bill. I will not go back and I will be telling anyone that will listen to steer away from here. Not worth the money or time.

Yelp
We've been here twice and both times great!! No wait to be seated, friendly service, friendly guests. We ordered the fried green tomatoes (the best), catfish nuggets (delicious! ), trigger with mashed potatoes & green beans, blackened salmon with mashed potatoes and collard greens. Everything was seasoned just right and cooked just right! The first time went we had oysters, grouper and grits. Soooo good!

Yelp
From the moment I arrived something was off about this place. It's not as if I can point to one specific thing. It was just an overall feeling I had. The food was actually very good. I had the seafood platter all fried. It was OK. It came with green beans and french fries which were crinkle cut. I know enough about eating out to know that a crinkle cut french fries is frozen before being fried for your specific order. The point is they are not fresh potatoes, which causes me to question what other ingredients coming from the kitchen are not fresh but frozen the food was actually good enough to warrant a return to this establishment. However, the weight staff was annoyed, and not friendly.

Bernadine L.

Yelp
Food is excellent not too pricey. The ambiance is right for the Menu but cleanliness is escaping them. The floors, chairs and table edges are sticky inside. The tables are not consistently cleaned on the side but it's worth taking your chances.

Yelp
OP Fish House is making me rethink every 5 star review I've ever given. NEVER, HAVE I EVER..... 1. Had a plate full of food and everything on it was amazing! If you don't know what I'm talking about you are spoiled! The Captain's Breakfast comes with a scrambled egg (more like 3), a delicious perfectly homemade southern biscuit, sausage, a piece of grilled and a piece of fried chicken, sausage gravy, and a side. I chose the Jalapeno cheese grits. Dude! Amazing! The best grits ever! 2. Bottomless Zing Zang bloody Mary's and Wycliff Mimosas for $10.99. OMG! Really???? I'm used to paying $2.75 for a riff raff bloody and drinking several. 3. Service so good the staff come to eat on their time off! Super friendly! Everything you could want for a brunch! 4. The restaurant was built into an old farmhouse. It's over 100 years old and yet beautifully decorated to meet its seafaring clientele. I love this place. I will be back to try their weekly specials and anytime I come back to the area. This is one of my most highly recommended places EVER to eat.

Yelp
We started our meal with calamari which was supposed to include banana peppers. The calamari pieces were large and cooked perfectly. Would've loved to have had more banana peppers since we could only find about 6 pieces. They add the perfect complement to the calamari. We also ordered the hush puppies with the mixed jam. I love hush puppies but have to say these were not very good at all. They were so hard we could barely bite through them. Plus, $16 seems really steep. Finished off with a Po' Boy with oysters. In my opinion the roll chosen for a Po' Boy makes or breaks the sandwich. This roll was fantastic! The oysters were ok but we're overcooked.

Yelp
This place is cool, creative and entirely focused on the culinary side of downhome seafood. It's everything an oyster bar and seafood restaurant should be. Tucked away in a natural setting. Situated in an historic, old house. Servers and cooks moving quickly around serving customers with a smile and great food. It's the kind of place that you're glad that exists. The ambiance is no joke either. Outdoor seating and an outdoor bar. Indoor seating with wild murals of giant squid, fish and octopus. And again an off-the-beaten path backyard kind of feel. It's also clearly a family place with menu items credited to family members. Makes you feel like some of the food has been refined over the years. So, yeah 5 stars. I'll definitely go back when I'm back in Jax. And take the whole family. Cause that's who they're cooking for.

Dan M.

Yelp
At op fish house now and Taylor the bar tender is outstanding! Great smile and service!
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
I got the shrimp and grits and I really liked it but my husband got the fresh catch sandwich and the fish was flavorless and so so dry. He was so hungry he tried to fix it by putting ketchup and hot sauce, tarter and grits from my plate and he said it was beyond fixing even The French fries were good. The place was a mess I guess it was just after lunch or brunch.
google avatar

Sharon B.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time saying farewell to a dear friend. The food was awesome and the service was great. We will be back.

Angel M.

Yelp
7/16 made a reservation for 5 for 730. It is now 7:24. We let the hostess know we were here for a reservation for 730. Said sorry we gave it to another party of 5 that just came in. Tell me how that works. Was told there was a wait time. Never coming back. Don't make a reservation. It does not work.

Courtney R.

Yelp
I came for all you can eat shrimp on Tuesday, the food was amazing! Lauren did such a good job at making sure I had everything I needed. I will be coming back !
google avatar

Greg M.

Yelp
Holy Wednesdays 60 cent oysters! The super chunky crab stew was amazing! We drove from the west coast to Jacksonville to enjoy this incredibly delicious meal. And yes, all four dozen were just for me...

Michelle G.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of the menu and love the other locations; Seafood kitchen, Julington creek fish house and New Berlin fish house. I've been to this location three times and it is consistently terrible. They frequently run out of the nightly specials early in the evening. Extremely slow service is the norm, once it took well over an hour!
google avatar

Kristina C.

Yelp
Fun place for lobster and dinner with friends or date night. We went for lobster night (Thursdays) the service was very good. The food was great I really enjoyed my cocktail. It's in an old house which really is charming.

Dana M.

Yelp
The Captain's Platter was excellent as usual. Our server, Lauren, was very informative and helpful. Always nice to have a full glass of drink. Come here ....You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Rachelle S.

Yelp
We love having family dinner here. The food is always fresh and full of flavor. The brussels being combined w sausage was a nice touch. Our server was amazing and having a few restless children, he handled them well. I love that we are able to get quality seafood with a casual environment.
google avatar

Natalie Y.

Yelp
This place is so charming. It's a renovated house turned into a restaurant. It had pretty good seafood, and the server did a decent job.

Andrew B.

Yelp
There wasn't really much that seemed decent in the vicinity, but this place had decent reviews so I thought we'd give it a try. Well, what a hidden secret this place was! Friendly, professional staff, fresh delicious food at ridiculously low prices and a cool ambience and vibe. Very rarely do I receive seafood orders that I have trouble finishing - typically they are expensive and are small portions. Well, not here I can tell you! The scallops, shrimp, crab were exceptional. And did I mention the portions? Huge, and for very low prices. Loved every minute of it. Definitely bookmarking this one!
google avatar

Dawn D.

Yelp
Phenomenal food and bottomless mimosas? Yes please. Seriously. This place is a hidden gem of Jacksonville. Just a hop skip to orange park with just gourmet food. Worth every penny. Jenna was a fantastic bar tender/ server. Can't wait to come back!!
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Nice local seafood spot. We like to go for oyster Wednesdays. (.60 oysters) The Chef Jason Brussels appetizer is probably my favorite thing ever. They have a great weekend brunch menu also. The bottomless mimosas for brunch is nice. Good selection of beers & cocktails as well. Good amount of outdoor seating. Over all it's a great place for brunch, lunch, & dinner.
google avatar

Emy A.

Yelp
We wanted seafood but didn't want to go all the way to the beach area so we decided to come here. So glad we did because the food was fresh and delicious! I got the stuffed grouper with bacon collard greens (wow!$ and sweet potato fries. It's a good portion dish and ended up taking half of it home for dinner. The grouper was well cooked and yummy. That collard greens though! I have never had collard greens like that before and was soo soo good! I just can't explain how good it was! My husband got fried shrimp with fries (he doesn't venture out much) and he said it was good. He got the lunch portion so his came with one side and he ordered crinkle fries. They came out as if they just came out of the fryer. This is definitely a repeater for us!
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
This place is a gem. Feels like old Florida inside. I cant wait to go back. Fresh seafood, fresh ingredients fresh service. I love this menu. If you dont look hard, put it in your GPS you might miss it. Its an old looking house with tons of character. Theres a porch, patio lots of open feeling areas. Really cool place and excellent food. We went for lunch but dinner looks like it would be fun. Cool little bar, wine options local beers. Yes please. I will be back.
google avatar

Sandy S.

Yelp
First time. The friendliest staff you will find anywhere! Greeted and seated almost immediately even though many tables reserved. Will remember next time. Ally (our server) constantly checking on us. Hope we have her again. Food delivered quickly, hot. Only cons: 4 top tables small. Fairly noisy on Saturday night. Will be back. Prices reasonable. New favorite place!
google avatar

Rachel E.

Yelp
I've been to OP Fish house many times over the years. For Orange Park, it's a gem! The latest experience was phenomenal from the attentive, kind server to the delicious food. Our server, Jaden, was so patient with my family that can be difficult to please. Everything was smooth and he made our experience here tonight. He was very polite and my family was impressed with the quality service he provided as well. The food was great tonight. I got huge peel n eat shrimp, my husband got shrimp n grits, my mom got shrimp tacos, and my dad and brother got captain's platters. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious. The icing on the cake was Jaden offered my dad his choice of dessert for his birthday. I've had poor experiences here before, but it seems like it has really turned around. We had such a great evening!
google avatar

Bill A.

Yelp
We ate lunch at OP's . The service was very good and the place has a nice feel. They serve hush puppies with a berry sauce that is really tasty. I highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
This is my second time eating at the restaurant. I was there for a baby shower, and the restaurant provided us with a separate room from the main restaurant. While the A/C was out due to unforeseeable events, back up A/C and ventilation were provided. The event space was cozy and intimate. Our waitress easily and seamlessly catered to our needs, and was very friendly. The food was fresh and tasty, and all of our food came out at about the same time. I recommend the OP Fish House for a casual dinner or special event.

Patricia B.

Yelp
We have eaten here several times. Food is delicious, service good in a quaint, comfortable setting. Tonight, our server Hannah, was attentive and quite efficient, as well as friendly. My grouper was some of the best I have had. Reservations are a good idea. Daily specials are awesome! Check them out!
google avatar

Carol V.

Yelp
We've been to OP Fish several times, and overall we enjoy it. A few details this last time were a bit off. The appetizer plates were wet and had food residue. One of the cutlery pieces also had food residue. We were seated on the patio, and it was a pleasant afternoon. We asked if the fan could be turned to a lower speed, as it was blowing hard on us, napkins on table, etc. Our server returned and told us the fan only had one speed, and she didn't ask if we would prefer to javelin it turned off. Some tables had fans off, so we would have appreciated that option. We enjoyed our beverages and the $10/lb snow crab legs. It would have been nice to have seafood picks or small forks, as it was challenging to get all the meat out of the skinnier shells.
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
The staff was great, ambiance is very nice We ordered take out fish tacos and shrimp tacos, both were so soggy that they were impossible to pick up, I can get beyond that (they included forks), but then we tried to eat they they were smothered in salt. We couldn't taste the fish or the shrimp. Lastly there web page prices are different than the prices at the restaurant
google avatar

Bob H.

Yelp
First time here....loved the funky atmosphere and ambience....immediately seated by the hostess with a waitress right on her heels for drinks. Extensive menu with some great choices. I got the low country boil....served hot with lots of shrimp and crab legs.....delicious! I'll be back!!!

Yelp
My 2nd time at OP Fish. Our party of 4 was celebrating a wedding anniversary & a birthday. The celebrant picked the place. Though I was not too impressed the first time, I' was pleasantly surprised this time around. Everything tasted wonderfully fresh. We had a very nice table in the front by the windows. It was cozy & away from the crowd. Near the bar. Great food & excellent service. We had the best server Ally. Very patient & friendly. The whole staff were super friendly. My dish was a combo of 2 seafoods & 2 sides. It was a very good deal. Blackened Mahi & Scallops with two side. It was well seasoned & the scallops were plump & juicy. My husband had the crab cakes. It was delicious. Our friends dish looked great too. Shrimp & Grits & Lobster Ravioli. The beer & wine offering was pretty good. We surprised our couple friend with a red velvet cake for the anniversary & the staff were super helpful with it. Our friends decided to leave the rest of the cake for the staff to enjoy. Our friend raved about the Lobster Roll from their previous visit. I will definitely be back for that. I'd also come back for their Brunch & Lobster special on Thursdays. Overall it was a great dining experience at OP Fish.

Yelp
Visiting this side of town and found this amazing place for dinner. Everything we ordered tasted delicious and fresh. For appetizers, we ordered gator tails. My husband and I split the Captains platter which is a wise decision since the serving is big and can feed 2 people. Both appetizer and entree are not fishy at all. The sawgrass chocolate cake was the best way to end our meal. Not only did we enjoy the food, service was good. Food was served quickly and server was on top of things. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Do not waste your time or hard earned money on this place, This is my second bad review of this establishment, I decided to give it another shot tonight and completely regret my decision. Long wait 35 minutes with several empty tables, ok no big deal, price for amount of food very high, expected these days but the kicker was being served oysters with no crackers, sauce, lemons etc brought out with it, I asked two waitresses waited ten plus minutes and had to go get the condiments myself, by then the oysters were cold, soup appetizer showed 20 minutes later after the oysters, it was supposed to come with hush puppies again had to ask the waitresses who said she would bring them right out another wait, well I ate cold soup as well. We had intentions of ordering additional oysters never had the chance or was asked. Oh and did I mention 40 minute wait for a dozen cold oysters and a bowl of cold soup. So disappointing and all they said was sorry, with inflation on the rise patrons still out spending hard earned money should be appreciated more!
google avatar

Yelp
If you like expensive, crowded, noisy, cramped dining then this is your place. I applaud them for repurposing an old house but it just doesn't work for me. The food is generally good though and well portioned. It's just hard to enjoy the experience. Also management needs to examine the meaning of customers first, honoring reservations including requests and responding to customer needs. The place is popular which leads to looooong wait times at the busiest hours. Do I recommend? Maybe. Will I go back? Maybe at off-hours. Just realize what you're getting into if you decide to try it.

Aaron H.

Yelp
Local gem for great, fresh seafood, easy online reservations, and fabulous customer service! A big thank you to Jenna and compliments to the chef for a tasty brunch in a quaint, corner table. Looking forward to our next visit!
google avatar

Lauren R.

Yelp
This restaurant is especially adorable during the holidays. You have to try the lobster and ricotta ravioli and the key lime pie. They get it from Cinnotis bakery and wow the layer of merengue is fantastic.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food great prices ! My grandpa loves ordering from here. Great fish combo. Big fan of all the sides. I'm not a fish fan so i got a burger and whheoooowwwww that's a big ol burger ! Huge chunk of meat. I've always been a big fan of the plating. The faux newspaper is so delightful. It brings a smile to the face. I Love the collard greens. I have eaten like 3 sides worth I can't get enough ! The juice at the bottom of the container is my special little treat. No pics because I ate everything so fast when my aunt brought it home for take out.
google avatar

Anita S.

Yelp
Pros: Good drinks. Fish dip was delicious. Server was friendly. Cons: Ordered 6 steamed oysters with drinks, well before entrees, which arrived after our meals were done. They were small, overcooked and flavorless. Except for one which was still raw. The raw one was better but still tasteless. The broiled seafood was overly salty. All of it. And I love salt. For the price, this was just way below par and I won't likely return.

Carol S.

Yelp
Visited 5/19 for dinner a party of 5. Our service with Lauren was spectacular! She was knowledgeable with menu items and a great personality, she loves her job..so attentive to patrons as well. While waiting for a table she suggested to sit in her area to be served with no delay! So accommodating and a pleasure all around. The food was exceptional as always and will definitely return with such great service! Thanks Lauren you made our dinner party so welcomed! Such a great asset to the team at OP'S.

Saige M.

Yelp
Taylor (bartender) was super wonderful for our brunch experience and will be the reason that we come back!
google avatar

Tara K.

Yelp
Arrived at 12:15 on a Monday, no problem getting a table. I got a fried grouper sandwich and rustic potatoes . Grouper was delicious! I'll pass on the potatoes next time-whatever they use to season them is just not my cup of tea (vinegar maybe?). Hubby got the Grouper dinner(blackened), coleslaw, and greens. All were very delicious! I not a huge fan of coleslaw, but I couldn't help stealing forkfuls of the hubbys slaw! Yum! With water to drink, our bill came to almost $50...a little steep for lunch, but good for a splurge because the seafood is just that good!!
google avatar

Haley C.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The Brussels sprouts appetizer is so amazing. I've tried to make it at home! All the food my husband and I have had has been great! Planning another date night already!
google avatar

Sylvia W.

Yelp
The restaurant looks like a house. Pay close attention or you may pass it. I enjoyed my watermelon margarita with an extra shot was great. It had real watermelon in it. They didn't have a variety of breakfast options..no breakfast meats . The shrimp and grits were not so great. It had like 5 shrimps and a lot of grits. Not a lot of taste.

Kevin B.

Yelp
Excellent old school fish and seafood restaurant. Oyster night was the best. Good place for locals to gather and enjoy good seafood.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, good service. Make a reservation because the wait get a bit long. Try everything in the menu but I do recommend the oysters

Maressa H.

Yelp
Food was spectacular. Service A1 10/10 would recommend to everyone Ambiance is very nice fits the theme

Regina F.

Yelp
Very disappointed in service and food. Have been coming here since they opened in OP. It was absolutely delicious when they opened and was so until 6-9 months ago. Every time we have come in lately has gotten worse. This last time which was 4-20-24 (a great day 420) was horrible. 1st we waited at our table outside for at least 20+ minutes. So I went and told the hostess she did send the waitress. FORGOT TO SAY THEY WERE NOT BUZY!! In fact went in for an early dinner around 4. Next the food smelled BAD FISHY! And tasted the same. When I complained they really didn't care or at least there actions didn't show so. They did AGREE to take my meal off bill but wanted me to just eat it. Wasn't happening! Should have taken pic but didn't look bad and since pics don't have smell-a-vision or taste-a-vision I figured why? My suggestion is stay away. That's what I will be doing. Staying away. SHRIMP SHACK would have been lots better or even Captain D's. So sorry to feel I need to write this review. Good Luck if you try this place
