$25 for two sandwiches, one of which had frozen bread in the center. The other, very dry with very little sauce. Poorly assembled. There are better places around to get sandwiches for the same price.

We ordered a charcuterie board from Opas for our community book club, and they truly went above and beyond! Not only was the board beautifully arranged and absolutely delicious, but the team took the extra step of looking up the book we were reading — Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney — and added thoughtful, themed touches to the board without us even asking. It was such a creative and personal detail that really elevated the experience for everyone. You can tell Opas puts real care into what they do. Highly recommend them for any event — we’ll definitely be back!

Just want to brag on Opas Smoked Meats! I recently had an interaction with the company and they went above and beyond! Top notch from Mr. Edwards the President to the fine product on your table. We love their jalapeño cheddar sausage!

We love Opa's! We have been twice (2022 during our honeymoon & 2023 for our 1st anniversary). This small meat market has good food and great people! Location: easy to find by gps. You notice their sign coming down the road. Parking is right off the road or in their small parking lot. Close to main street. Atmosphere: welcoming and friendly. They allow you to sample if you'd like. They also serve sandwiches and sides. When we went on a Saturday early morning, it smelled of delicious bacon! Service: friendly and open to talking. We didn't feel rushed. They were able to make recommendations. The cashier was very sweet and positive. Food: deli meats, cheeses, bottle drinks, sandwiches, bratwurst, jarred items, German foods, etc. We got their blueberry cheese, smoked green onion cheese, jarred Sauerkraut, and hog head cheese. Extra: we attended the Oktober fest where Opa's served food. We got their bratwurst and sauerkraut & bacon dog and omg- so good!! If you want a good, friendly, thoughtful shop-stop in fredericksburg, go here.

We have bought this brand of sausage at HEB and we were elated to find out the main hub was here! We bought a few packs of sausage and were offered samples. Very friendly staff! I grabbed these fluffy gingerbread cookies on the way out. They were amazing! Go check this place out!

Google
Love this store! We bought the peppered bacon, bratwurst, chicken sausage and beef sausage. They were all really good. We will definitely be ordering from them in the near future. The atmosphere and staff were nice. I highly recommend you try this place out.

Google
Husband LOVES their sausages, so we had to stop and check it out. They make some really delicious sandwiches at the deli, and the store has a lot of good stuff, considering it's not as big as we expected. Everyone was very nice and answered all of our questions. The only problem we had with it was that they were out of stock on 3XL shirts...and how much we spent. Ha ha.

Stella L.

Google
Amazing store that sells lots of made-in-house German inspired sausages and meats. They also sells lots of herbs and spices and condiments and sauerkraut!

Yelp
Opa's is familiar to anyone shopping for sausage at the supermarkets in Central Texas. However, even if you've tried their signature bratwurst, it's definitely worth stopping by this uniquely cute deli/store. Parking can be found at one of two small lots at the front/side of the building. Signs will direct you to the front door. Inside, the store is on the small side but immaculately clean. There's cold cuts, pickled vegetables, and all of their meat/sausage selections. Only about 4-5 are sold in the supermarket, but here you can find their entire selection, including an intriguing smoked beef or pork tenderloin. The store owners are friendly and have a lot of knowledge on their products. Definitely worth a stop during a trip to F'burg!

Yelp
I couldn't pass this place up on our way out of Fredericksburg. The name called me in - "Opa" was what we called our Dutch grandpa growing up. When we walked in most of the glass display cases were empty. But, a very nice gentleman that worked there introduced himself and gave us a little tour of what the shop had to offer. Various cheese and packaged smoked meats ready to eat were in the refrigerated sections. Sampled 3 types of smoked sausage and various seasonings for crackers. Very tasty! Their sandwiches are very popular, so we ordered the jalapeno sliced smoked sausage on a hoagie with German mustard and no cheese. Omg that sandwich was super deelish! The sausage was very thinly sliced and the mustard was fab! So fab we bought some, apparently it's Fredericksburg Farms Düsseldorf mustard. Military discount offered FYI their smoked sausages can be conveniently bought in most HEBs

Yelp
Great little German food shop selling delicious sausages, cold cuts, and general German items. Some of their sausages are sold in central market, but only a 3 types. Here, you can find them all! And sample them. The store owners are friendly and have a lot of knowledge on their products. So you can come in knowing nothing and leave with confidence in making your next German meal! Great shop in Fredericksburg. Every time we're in town, we stop by for a few packs of brats. And they have a parking lot.
google avatar

Yelp
They make a damn good sandwich, best in town I'd say. Everything is fresh and tasty. They never disappoint.
google avatar

Tim G.

Yelp
Great ribs. Everything was great. Great sides, great desserts. Wish it was closer to Austin because it is one of the better barbecue places.
google avatar

Yelp
Opa's has been around for decades. Stopped in recently with some out of town guests. We had great cooked sausages to go and some excellent cured smoked beef. Excellent selection of other sausages and foods available. Service: nice, friendly folks Overall cleanliness: above average

Yelp
Opal's has been here for many generations. My husband came here with his grandfather 30 years ago and we had to come. I wanted to see the memories of my husband childhood. What a lovely place and they have a nice selection of canned fruits and veggies. Got some whole fog preserves, these are difficult to find. The beef jerky looks amazing and we got some and it is super delicious, moist and flavorful and not too salty. The sausage in the rotisserie was amazing! We got it to go with hot dog bun, sauerkraut and German mustard. The sausage was out of this world delicious with a beautiful snap casing and perfect textures, taste, and I love that is what not too salty. I highly recommend it. Cleanliness: above average Employees: above average friendliness

Yelp
My family have been a fan of Opas for a while now and thought it's about time we visit their store in Fredericksburg. It's a cute little shop full of different types of meat and sausages. Looked very clean and organized inside the store. When I first walked in, there was a lady who greeted us very nicely and gave us a quick description of all the products they had. She was very friendly to my nephew, who kept asking questions and samples (appreciated her patience with him). She definitely knew her stuff and introduced us to some new products they had (chicken sausage was one, and it was delicious). We bought a bunch of sausage, including a breadboard they had, spicy mustard and other things. Everyone was very kind to us, and the whole experience throughout was great. I even thought some of their stuff was cheaper compared to places we bought in San Antonio. Overall, I totally recommend folks to stop by and try out their products.

Yelp
Custom-made sandwiches to go from a famous local sausage shop. It's not possible to eat on premises, but you can picnic at the city park about a block to the west - or better yet, at one of the many wineries in the area. Not feeling creative? Order a sandwich from their signature sandwich list. My favorite so far is the roast beef sandwich on marbled rye bread. Want something specific? Build your own using the bread and ingredients list. I usually just get the sandwich, but you can make it a combo for a few bucks more. Word of warning - when you see the word "sliced" it means thin-sliced, including the bratwurst. I was expecting sliced links but that's not the style at Opa's. Never had thin-sliced bratwurst before and don't plan to again, LOL.

James B.

Yelp
Opas is the best! Interacted with Customer Service recently and got a call from their President - amazing service. Now about their food products - we picked up their jalapeño cheddar sausage at HEB and it's the best!
google avatar

Ricardo J.

Yelp
Opa's Sausage is to Fredericksburg what Nathan's Hot Dogs is to New York - an institution of flavor and pride that reflects the culture of its community. Here you can find cheeses, sausages, deli meats, ham, turkey, and also you can come here for good old fashioned sandwiches. I hear they do some mean lunch combos. Today I came away with their jalapeño cheddar summer sausage, which is an easy win. The staff here is very friendly and eager to help, offering samples of meats and cheeses to help steer your decisions. And, my Yelpers, those decisions will never be bad ones.
google avatar

Mary W.

Yelp
We were at a restaurant in Fredericksburg that served German food and knautwurst and bratwurst. We asked the server where they sourced their meats and she said Opas Smoked Meats on Washington in Fredericksburg. So we picked up three packages.
google avatar

Denise H.

Yelp
Friendly service Delicious food Fresh bread Amazing sausages we bought to take home Definitely worth the stop, for take out sandwiches

Drew W.

Yelp
What a wonderful little shop! Upon walking in to Opas you are greeted by a colorful array of meats, spreads, and delicacies. Do yourself a favor and order a sandwich to go, they are way fresher than any chain you will find, and the best part? they are dog friendly. The sweet lady behind the counter made our family feel welcome and like treasured guests. The meats we took home have all been delicious.
google avatar

Cari J.

Yelp
Oooh boy! Visit and pick out a sandwich. You can't go wrong. I had the ham and cheese toasted and it was heavenly. The salted caramel rice krispy treat was awesome, too!
google avatar

Rick L.

Yelp
Great sausages and meat selection. Friendly staff and everyone was wearing a mask, not that I care. Masks were also provided at the door. The sausages are also sold at the local grocery store and local restaurants. I love the old school vibe.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
The sandwiches are to die for. My wife and I often drive 3 hours just to have a sandwich here. It is a MUST stop when in Fredericksburg.
google avatar

P B.

Yelp
Best sandwiches ever! We have to stop and get lunch at Opa's if we are in Fredericksburg. They have a full service deli with many amazing products; smoked meats and cheeses, pickled veges, and much more. You can order a lunch with a sandwich, chips, and cookie to go. They have specials or build your own. We have our favorite which is the honey wheat sourdough roll, with smoked turkey and cheese. The chicken salad is great also. The staff is super friendly. It's the perfect lunch to grab and head to winery for a picnic.
google avatar

Lashon B.

Yelp
Wonderful selection of sausages. They were very helpful and knowledgeable on recommending products. We purchased several sausages and seasonings. Anxious to try. We were able to sample a few before purchasing. Definitely recommend.

Mark C.

Yelp
We got there late from a long drive and it was our first time there. We ordered a Pastrami sandwich and a roast beef Sandwich. We took them back to our hotel. They were SO delicious and fresh. Even the bread was perfect! We will definitely be back again!

Steven H.

Yelp
Opas made 5 appetizer trays for my fathers 90th Birthday party. I had no idea they did that. The trays were over the top wonderful!!! I can't express how beautiful they were. The art that went into creating them was just incredible. The people working in the store where we picked them up were so gracious and so nice that I wanted to let everyone know. If you're looking for something for a special event, and you want to work with some really special people, call Opas In Fredericksburg. They are over the top fantastic!
google avatar

Elisa M.

Yelp
Due to COVID this is currently curbside pick up only however if you are in town, go off the beaten strip and make it a stop! From sandwiches to their smoked meats this place overall is a WIN!!! A hidden gem that you will appreciate that you found. The folks who work their are always pleasant and ready to help in any way they can.
google avatar

Tracy N.

Yelp
We legit Drove all the way to Fredericksburg just to buy Opa's Smokes Turkey Legs. Worth the time and every penny we spent.
google avatar

lori s.

Yelp
The best meats!! Can't go to Fredericksburg without stopping here for some great stuff! We buy their sausage every visit. This time we stayed at a bead and breakfast on acreage with a barbque and grilled outdoors. With Covid making it almost impossible to go out to eat we made the most of our visit ourselves. My favorite it the bratwurst but they are all good!
google avatar

K W.

Yelp
This place is great. I love Opa's sausages and happened upon this spot while staying in Fredericksburg. I ordered a Smoked Ham and Jalapeño Cheese Sausage sandwich. It was huge and delicious and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Thank you!
google avatar

Dee M.

Yelp
Purchased some of the lunches that include a drink and bag of chips. The Ruben and ham and cheese were the best of the bunch. The ham was very good, the honey wheat bread complimented it. The Ruben was the best ever. The pastrami with mustard and added sauerkraut was dry, needed more kraut or mustard to moisten. The marble rye roll was good, it can stand up to more kraut or mustard. I was eyeing up the smoked sausages and head cheese in the little cold case however I didn't want a pound of head cheese to go.
google avatar

Brianda G.

Yelp
We were craving sausages and stoped by to try this place. We ordered a sliced jalapeño sandwich with German mustard and it was absolutely delicious! The lady also let us sample the Chicken and beef sausage, both were very savory. Highly recommend!

Rusty S.

Yelp
Great local business with really good smoked meats and made to order sandwiches. German influenced product.

Yelp
Love Opa's sausages. Also their sauerkraut. and red cabbage is to "die for". But the best is Opa's ghost chili salsa!!!!!

Yelp
Drove from San Antonio to Fredericksburg & decided to get sandwich. Ordered it and asked to use restroom (we are a couple in our 70's). Tall blonde said we don't have one. I knew this wasn't true because I used it before. I didn't say anything because I was hungry. Clerk said there's one at Judy's across the street or H‑E‑B two blocks down. So we drive across the street. (By the way, Judy's was very nice & I would recommend their liquor store). We went back and got sandwich and left. I just think it's pretty rude they can't let 2 old people, who are customers, use their restroom. Consequently, I will never go there again. Sandwich wasn't that great anyway.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Opa's, that is until I visited this shop. Service was horrible, they acted like I was bothering them by being there. After annoying the employee behind the counter I went to pay and the two ladies looked at me and sat down at the computer. I left empty handed. The other reviews are true, I didn't want to believe it but they must hire the only rude people in Fredericksburg.

Tamara D.

Yelp
Amazing shop! Knowledgeable staff. Products are amazing ! I came home with a ridiculous amount of meat
google avatar

Candi - David G.

Yelp
We bought some liverwurst here for our uncle, upon his request. Real authentic German deli. Prices were reasonable.
google avatar

Marlene F.

Yelp
This smokehouse has the BEST bratwurst and turkey jerky I have had! I was wishing I had bought more and loaded up our ice chest for trip back to Ft Worth! The jalapeño cheese sausage in awesome, with perfect spice! Guess I'll order online to get my fix' now ! When In Fredericksburg ..... make spit stop and load up!!

Yelp
We ordered togo a Bratwurst sandwich ($6.99) and a side of German potato salad to enjoy after a hike at nearby Enchanted Rock State Park (side note ~18 miles out of town, reservation required). After the hike, we enjoyed our nicely wrapped sandwich (cut in half, thank you). Not as punchy as I hoped given the sauerkraut and German mustard were on the sandwich, note the brat was thinly sliced so not quite the same experience. On the other hand, the German-style potato salad was quite excellent granted a bit pricey ($3.89 for an 8 oz cup). I

Yelp
We bought German sausages in the grocery store in Alpine, TX abd noticed they were from Fredericksburg (near our next stop on a TX roadtrip). Happy to find Opa's store in Fredericksburg has a deli where we stopped and got the build your own sandwiches: sliced country blend sausage on soft marbled rye hoagie bun, pick your own cheese, condiments and toppings. WONDERFUL! Took then over to Frantzen Park, just 5 min away for a peaceful shady picnic by the creek. We will stop in again for more sausages to take home to Colorado.
google avatar

Nicole N.

Yelp
The sandwiches are stacked high and a great value for your money. There is a small refrigerated section with Opa sausage, priced the same as the in town grocery store. There is a very small cheese selection. And a few other bits of German food/spices. This place is nice for picking up a sandwich but it does take 5min/sandwich to make.
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
My dad made a pitstop here to pick up some smoked meat to snack on throughout our visit with lots of driving. He got some beef tenderloin and some pork tenderloin. I'm not a huge fan of pork so I didn't like that one as much but it was still pretty tasty considering. The beef was like heaven in my mouth though! Wish I didn't live so far away, getting that stuff shipped is expensive!
google avatar

Al R.

Yelp
AWESOME!!! Enough said! They supply the authentic German sausages and sides to restaurants all over the country. They also supply just about everyone in town also. This is small retail shop but they have an great selection of meats, sides, and taste tested samples. They also ship all over the country as well if you want to order. Very friendly staff. Also they have freezer bags and sells freezer packs to keep your product cold while you take it home. Don't forget to pick up some German potato salad it's great!
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
All of the options and more you hope to find straight from the source! If it was just bigger so I could buy more. Oh wait, my wallet says no. They know their meat and work magic to create truly delicious bratwurst options! Stop by any time you can! You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Luis C.

Yelp
Awesome!!!. I'm a cheese and meat lover, so this is definitely my place!!! When you add the owner being there to help, that makes it a definite winner!!!
google avatar

Tabatha S.

Yelp
After an hour drive to come visit, eat a sandwich, and stock up on locally smoked meats, my 4-year-old really needed to pee and the staff recommended we walk to a nearby hostel to ask if they have a restroom. As a former shop owner who had no public restrooms, I still never denied a tiny bladder who needed to go. So this crabby review is more about empathy for a hungry, 8mos pregnant mom with a little one who needs to pee on a slow day at a slow time in an empty shop. We decided to support another local German place instead.

Kent C.

Yelp
Not everyone can afford to purchase smoked meats over $40 a pound but those who can may find it well worth the price. Until recently we always were very pleased with purchases. We recently bought the peppered tenderloin only to find it was discolored from the deep red normal maroon color to a dark brown circular portion which gave us caution. We read online quality guarantees were now suspended so we did not consume it until we called them. I called the store and the response Natalie gave us 3 days later was it was okay to eat despite being discolored. Unfortunately we did not know that and were disappointed the store offered us nothing for the discolored portions or gave us any warnings of it. What we consumed was very tasty but we will not be back for a while.
google avatar

Rieale L.

Yelp
The store was smaller than I thought and a lot of the room was dedicated for sandwiches made to order and lunch meat. However, there was amazing sausage to sample and buy, and the butcher/man at the counter was beyond helpful and knowledgable. I did expect there to be more variety of smoked meats but what they had was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
MMMMMMmmmmmeat!!!! My sister and I came here recently after a few hours hiking at Enchanted Rock. Though we had packed an ample amount of snacks for the day, we decided that we needed to stop over at Opa's to stock up on some top notch beef jerky. We were sad initially when we drove up and the side door was locked. We got back in the car and almost started backing out when we noticed people walking out!!!! WHAT?!?! Apparently the old side door has been closed, and there is a newer entrance on the side of the building. A little better signage would be appreciated. We walk in and it is just an absolute meat-fest! They had a carving board set out with free samples of dried, smoked beef tenderloin, beef jerky, a variety of smoked sausages, cheeses, etc. I just could not stop going back. I probably ate about a 1/4lb of free samples... no joke!!! We ended up buying some of their world famous sausage to take home and grill up that night, and then decided that if we were going to get real quality stuff we needed the smoked tenderloin jerky!!! We bought half a pound and it came out to around $9 with tax. A little pricey, but TOTALLY worth it. As soon as we got into the car we started eating it and if people could have heard us they probably would have thought we were doing totally inappropriate things in the car. I experienced my first jergasm that day... and it was truly memorable!
google avatar

Laura A.

Yelp
I've never been to the actual Opa's store, but have partaken in their delicious CHEESE & JALAPENO sausage which can be purchased at an HEB near you! Ooey gooey cheese, just the right amount of heat, dang good tasting sausage! My mouth is watering right now...
google avatar

Nina W.

Yelp
We decided to stop over at Opa's to pick up some meat for our picnic. Upon entering the store, we were warmly greeted by one of the butchers who gave us samples of various delicious meats. I was pleased with the selection of sauerkraut, red barrel cabbage, pickled veggies, etc. Being my first visit, I purchased quite a few items since I was so excited about the awesome selection. If you're a meat lover, if you appreciate finer quality deli products and enjoy German food, this is a place you'll want to visit if you're in Fredericksburg or someplace nearby.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
If you want meat, this is the place to go. They have just about whatever you want. The meat here is so good in fact, that I witnessed a pickup truck full of Texas' finest camo-wearing/hunter/citizens walk in the front door and order an entire animal. Must be better than fresh venison from the ranch! Also of note, they have lots of other tasty things related to meat. Their selection of sauces and mustards was robust.
google avatar

Jai C.

Yelp
No one's written a review on Opa's? I feel honored! Opa's meats are sold at a lot of local retailers like HEB and even at Wal-marticus but I wanted to see the heart of it all. So I went. Talk about your smoked and cured meats! I had no idea they even had tenderloins, chickens or turkey as well. I've always been mostly familiar with their sausages and brats. As soon as you walk through the door - hell, as soon as you step outside your car - the wonderful aromas get ya!! And they get ya GOOD. Step in through the front door and it's sheer heaven. I was greeted instantly and with a smile. I was free to browse around and see all the goodies available. There were even some German sweets like Milka and Noblesse.
