"The NOMTOC (New Orleans Most Talked Of Club) parade is a family affair in a mostly residential, suburban area. So if you didn’t bring food with you, most of the spots nearby are either too far away, directly on the route, or super busy. Enter: Opelousas Point Supermarket, a longtime neighborhood Chinese takeout favorite we like to hit before the parade. They’re just three blocks off the route, and have been making simple and delicious fried chicken, egg rolls, and shrimp fried rice for decades. Also try the fried fish, fried shrimp, and kebabs, and make sure to get a Pineapple Blue Bayou Big Shot drink, too. " - megan braden perry

What can you say? There is nothing on this earth better than a number 7 made by the one and only Mr. Lee who is still in the back kitchen holding it down. Yes it has changed visually but the food taste is still the same (just a little smaller portions) but if you are from Algiers and grew up on that number 7 chicken plate with the big shot on the side- then this is a must to go back and enjoy the memories one bite at a time. There are other options, meat pies, kabobs, shrimp, egg rolls, nothing beat the original made by the original Mr. Lee.

Cash only (atm inside), take out only. Locally owned spot, super friendly. Food is always fresh and delicious. I typically do the shrimp + chicken and add an egg roll and it’s enough food for 2 meals for $15. I also like the fish, and apparently need to be trying the kabobs based on these reviews!

The food is ok in a pinch. Can't walk in without someone begging for money out front every time

My favorite is the number #7 which consist of 7 or 10 pieces of chicken and double shrimp fried rice and/or egg roll. And they shish kabob is the best I ever tasted especially dip in a specialty soy sauce.

Cooks don't wear masks in kitchen and serving. Fried rice had no flavor but lots of onions, shrimp were big but big does not mean better. They have a good business, it's in the neighborhood..... but it's not for me. My curiosity was satisfied 😎🤔

Yelp
I grew up eating from this business and I remember it being so delicious and scrumptious. I hadn't visited this store since 2006 so to visit now and see how dead it looks on the inside was kinda of a childhood memory killer. The store was high key filthy. There were old sodas all over and ATM receipts all over as well. The person at the register looked like a zombie and the food was unattended but looked pretty fresh. This whole ordeal are what perfect nightmares are made of. To top it all off they're CASH ONLY and the ATM available was pretty sketchy so I opted out of the whole ordeal. Sadly I'll never get y #7 (double shrimp fried rice & chicken) but they can never have my memories growing up eating the delicious food this place used to serve. #WhenWeWereYoung. Signed a disappointed customer.

Yelp
Hood Classic..a lil run down looking on the inside a renovation is must needed. Food taste, quality, and portion are excellent. Service could be a little more friendly but silence is appreciated in lue of rudeness. High recommended to anyone looking for good food.

Yelp
A staple in Algiers point that I've been going for years. It's okay now but can't go wrong with #7 with kabobs. Rice is a Lil gummy but the fried chicken is still good and reasonable prices.

Yelp
I hate cash only businesses! Gosh darn it...no one carries cash anymore! You prevent muggings and everything not having cash on you! Frickin' not wanting to report all your assets to the government people! Geesh! My rant is done. I was told that I needed to try this place because the #7 plate was a winner. Curious to know what a #7 was, I ventured to the establishment with my unofficial tour guide. This is not a restaurant. This is a typical New Orleans corner store. This is a clean hole in the wall place that serves general grocery items, but also has a kitchen in the back. This place is owned by some Asian people, so I did have high expectations for their stuff. I was given a plate that had some decent weight, and was brought back to a domicile to eat my goods. Plate opened, and what is before me? Golden, sizable wings and shrimp fried rice that both had a pleasant aroma. This could be an optical illusion, so I must further investigate. Tasting time...and you know what? This plate does not disappoint. Plenty of food for little amounts of money, no problem for me what so ever! They charge you $5 for about a half of dozen, plump, tasty wings, and a huge scoop of shrimp fried rice seasoned just right. You truly can beat that deal. I am glad my tour guide brought me to this place because it is well worth your time to visit this place. Parking may be a chore because this is a corner store. Besides that, bring your cash, get your food and enjoy. Only time will tell if I will give this place a 5th star. There are other items on the menu, but I may need a few more #7 plates before I give them a shot!

Yelp
One of my guilty pleasures. Their fried rice is great, please don't be turned off but the unusual pink color. They serve a variety of corner store fare (wings, fried shrimp, mystery meat kabobs, mystery meat egg rolls, etc). They are reasonably priced but the prices aren't posted anywhere. Hot food orders are taken in the back of the store, and you can either order a combo plate (a previously mentioned "entree" plus rice) or my personal favorite, just fried rice. Great drink selection (read: they have every flavor of Big Shot and Arizona). Overall, it's just a regular corner store, but in the virtual food desert that is Algiers Point, their fried rice is a welcome addition. TIP: The closer it gets to closing (around 4:30-5) they only serve combo plates. Also, the store gets pretty crowded around the time school dismisses and around the lunch hour (12 - 1).

Yelp
I've been eating at this place since I was a kid. Do not be turned off by the outside appearance. Yes, it is a hole-in-the-wall corner store, but Mr. Lee has been feeding the bellies of hungry folks for years. You will hear people order the "Number 7" and wonder what that is? Back in the day, they had a menu, and the #7 was the fried chicken plate with their unique shrimp fried rice. It is a classic and still a great price. I've lived all over the Gulf South, and anytime I was home I would make it a point to stop at "Opelousas" to get a #7 and a kabob, with a cold bottle of Big Shot. The shrimp fried rice is excellent, can't find it anywhere else and its made fresh. The fried chick is so crisp and juicy. The fried fish and shrimp is excellent as well. Same for meat pies and egg rolls. The Kabobs are my favorite. And if you are worried about how it looks, check the Louisiana Health department reports, Mr. Lee's place always ranked in good standings and checked regularly. Definitely a neighborhood jewel of the city.

Yelp
Best fried shrimp I've ever had. Classic NoLa convenience store with food in back. The stores not much to look at but the food is amazing.

Yelp
This by far is one of my favorite places to eat. The food is amazing. It's a cash only business but they have an atm. I would recommend this place to anyone. It could definitely use a facelift, but the food is on point. Don't judge the food based on how the store looks. I promise you won't be disappointed. So yummy!!! I recommend anything on the menu. I generally go for the #7 , which is a plate with 6 to 7 wings and a double portion of shrimp fried rice. One of my favs! You have to try the sauce it's in a little cup already portioned out. If I had to describe it or suggest what it might be, I would have to say probably soy sauce mixed with some honey maybe a few other secret ingredients in there. I'm telling you this sauce is "Boss", it dances around on your taste buds and can be put on any of the food. It is generally used for the chicken kabobs which you just tell them to dip for you and they will at no extra charge. They only charge you for the cup of sauce if you want extra and it's only $0.30 cents. The chicken kabobs are awesome as well, they are pretty simple though. They say simple is best, right? When I say simple, "I mean they only use onions and chicken." But don't let that fool you the spices make up for it in flavor and the onions are caramelized just right. You can get them as a plate, add one to another plate, or individually. The plate consist of two kabobs and a double portion of shrimp fried rice. They also have fried seafood. Big beautiful butterflied shrimp or nice filets of catfish fried to a beautifully golden crunchy texture. You can have either one of them as a plate, do half and half, or you can add some to another plate. Seafood plates come with your choice of seafood, double shrimp fried rice, and a slice of buttered french bread. They also have fried meat pies and egg rolls. I have tried all of the food here and I can honestly say that I have never been disappointed. The food is always fresh and perfectly cooked. All of the plates come with really great portions and the prices are really great. I feel like you definitely get your money's worth here. I always get full, in fact my fiance and I always share a plate and get full. The only thing that I don't like is the time they close, which is 5pm generally sometimes they may stay open a little past if their busy. I advise if it's getting close to closing time you may want to call first and see what they have available. The owners are very nice and down to earth. One time it was close to 5. I called to see if they had anything left they had one plate and they not only held it for me, but they stayed open long enough for me to come get it. I hope this helps out and hope that you get to experience the food here because you definitely will be missing out.
