"Open Door Tea in Stratford, Connecticut, is as welcoming as the name suggests, sporting comfy mismatched armchairs inside the roomy shop. The tea comprises a global mix of single-origin and signature blends branded with twee animal illustrations — like the robust New England Breakfast repped by raccoons — and served in French presses or in latte form. Don’t miss house-made baked goods, from scones and gluten-free muffins to cheesecakes, cookies, and lemon bars, as well as brunch fare like a kielbasa and sauerkraut sandwich on a pretzel roll that nods to owner Kasia Lindeberg’s roots in Poland." - Stasia Brewczynski

Today was my first time ordering from the shop and it was a delight! The place is absolutely cute and the staff are friendlier than you can ask for! I got a matcha latte with a lavender honey, simply delicious!

Google
Open Tea in Stratford is such a cute and cozy spot—perfect for relaxing, catching up with a friend, or just enjoying some quiet time. The vibe is super chill, and the tea is honestly amazing. The baked goods are also really tasty, so no complaints there. That said… the service is slow. Like, really slow. If you’re not in a rush, it’s a great place to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere. But if you’ve got somewhere to be or are short on time, this probably isn’t the place to swing by. Expect to wait at least 40 minutes for your order. Still, it’s a hidden gem—just one to enjoy when you’ve got time to kill.

The food is delicious, I love the ginger and curcuma shots for when I feel a cold.

Google
The best of the best! Friendly service, tasty vegan menu options, and the very best teas hands down. I visit every day that I’m in CT. Very highly recommend!

Google
I really enjoyed the iced London fog latte and banana walnut chai muffin. Tea lattes and tea-based desserts tend to be too weak-tasting for my taste, but the tea flavors are potent and fragrant here. I also like that it's a cute, unpretentious, and relaxing place to enjoy a chat with a friend or family, unlike some other afternoon tea places. The service is friendly and welcoming. My only nitpick is that their paper straws don't hold up well against the wetness of the drink.

Google
Wonderful relaxing tea room. The food selections are healthy and delicious. Desserts are varied and include gluten free options. The tea selection is vast and varied. Staff will help guide you in selecting one and they are always kind.

I did a virtual afternoon tea tasting with my employer Verizon. They sent us tea kits and hosted a wonderful session. Loved the experience and highly recommend.

Google
Love this place. I grew up in Stratford and I have to say this is one of the best things to have popped up in town. The food is delicious and so are the baked goods. The space is cozy and feels like an old fashioned tea house. I come here almost daily for takeout when I’m home visiting. I hope this place never goes anywhere

Yelp
Very nice tea place. I'm a big fan of good quality of tea. We got: Jasmine-+rose tea and it was soso. Pu'r berries black tea and it was amazing!! In terms of food: Cranberry scone was good, Quiche roccoli + cheddar was also very good(although I would improve the decoration from one slice of cucumber to something more interesting) Soup of the day was also very nice

Yelp
Perfect place to meet a friend for a cup of tea (or coffee!) and a biscuit. Haven't sampled their food in some time, but they have nice pre-prepared offerings you can peruse for purchase.

Marlana Y.

Yelp
My team had a virtual tea tasting Hosted by Jeannie and her associate. We did a starter tea kit and it was perfect for a one hour social event gathering. I have always wanted to do a tea tasting and was so happy. It was nice that each sample bag has directions and suggestions on how long to let the tea bags sit for. Each tea bag was perfectly chosen and I surprisingly loved each one for different reasons . My mind has definitely expanded after this mix of tea tasting/history lesson.

Yelp
On my latest visit, I had the vegan salad on special and my boyfriend had the chicken salad wrap. The chicken salad wrap is phenomenal, my boyfriend cannot say enough good things about it. He also loves the golden milk latte and gets it every time we go. The staff are friendly and the cafe is clean. I love the atmosphere at open door tea. The seating is eclectic and beautiful, the paintings on the walls, The beautiful teacups that you can choose from, it all adds to the experience!

Yelp
In August, we had my daughter's bridal shower at Open Door Tea. What a total success! We had 20 ladies, and we picked from a menu of selections including cucumber sandwiches, scones, little quiches, chicken salad and more. Special shout out to the Open Tea Salad with warm sweet potatoes and Gorgonzola. It was ridiculously delicious! We chose teas, and sweets for a delicious ending. The prices were fair and the service was great! No need to decorate tables because their tea cups and tea pots made the perfect centerpieces, along with how the food was served. We had a private space, with its own bathroom, and no stairs for easy entry to the space. It was a wonderful event and I highly recommend them!

Michelle R.

Yelp
Such a beautiful café! I love their beautiful, beautiful tea sets that are all mixed and matched. I have never tasted anything. I didn't like from there! The staff is super friendly and the location is very large. Looking forward to stopping by again soon.

Yelp
This shop is cute and cozy. The food was amazing! Everything from beginning to end was tasty. I definitely will come back when I'm in town. Sara was lovely and provided exceptional service.

Yelp
Cute luncheon! This was the first time we ate here and had reserved a table. No reservations are really required there seemed to be plenty of seating. You order at the counter which took us a minute to realize!! You get a cute tea cup and small kettle for your tea to steep and a timer so you know it is ready. Got a laugh out out the timer but what a great idea. Our food was promptly delivered and delicious! The tea was very good too!

Bob E.

Yelp
Open Door Tea is my go to place ! Love everything about it! The setting, the menu, and the service ! It is so elegantly clique yet relaxed. The menu is extensive and had only quality items. The teas and coffees are top notch as is the service. Belle made my day today. So good to see her again!

Carissa A.

Yelp
Both aesthetically pleasing and homey all in one little cafe. There are not many tea cafes in CT in general. However, this place truly holds its place firmly. There are plenty of teas (many I've never heard of or flavors I wouldn't think of as a tea). You can choose to order any of their teas to be made. Their selection of sampling, 20oz, etc. Take home options are plentiful as well. I had ordered one of their mushroom seasonal chai tea lattes which was fantastic. They had even gave me a free pear muffins as they had accidentally gave my order to someone else to start. I was not annoyed at this mishap as I was preoccupied admiring all of the tea flavors anyways. In addition to the chai latte and muffin, I had also ordered a sample of the banana bread red tea and 20oz of Darjeeling. Both teas were fantastic. I would highly recommend coming to this shop to work from home or as a cute brunch with friends

Yelp
I was surprised how many options they had, as soon as I walked in I could feel the calmness. I ordered a tulsi beyond balance tea with a granny apple oatmeal, then I got a number and was told to sit anywhere I like and they will come to me. I sat down and in a couple minutes the waiter came out with a pot and little hourglass timer, I was told to wait for the tea to get acquainted with the water and the sand of time to finish. Before it was done she came out with my oatmeal and it was delicious. I poured my tea, for a small it was two cups of tea not one! The chairs were comfortable older chairs the cups were antique, mine had a little hair but it's whatever I could tell it wasn't meant to be there. I enjoyed my tea, finished my oatmeal and got a to-go cup. Great experience overall thank you!

Yelp
When Open Door Tea came to Stratford I was overjoyed. A tea place was just the thing to break up the restaurants on The Green. They have now been there for awhile and I couldn't be more impressed. Upon walking in you are hit with the beautiful smell of fresh brewed tea and calm. The dining room is a perfect combination of mismatched comfortable seating and tea cups. Each pace setting has its own unique charm. I usually pick where I sit but the cup that I want that day! Going up to the counter you will see they are not short on amazing options! A wall of tea cans ready to be brewed can be smelled to help you make your selection. The bakery case is NOT to be slept on. Vegan, gluten free, and traditional items are available. The variety never disappoints. This trip I was taken by the Lemon Thyme cookie...it was a delicious balanced bite and it did not make it to my tea lol. It was a hot day so an iced tea hit the spot! If you ordered tea to sit in they bring the pot and a timer so you know exactly when it is ready. There are multiple sweetener options for these fragrant cups. If you are in the area (or even if you make it a destination) you will not regret a visit! @thesidedishers

Yelp
This is such a cute tea shop!!! I love the varieties of tea they offer. It's hard nowadays to find a cute tea shop like this. They have small tables with armchairs for seating. I can see that more women tend to come here. I wanted to order in advance and pick-up, but my online ordering on yelp said the shop was closed. I ended up calling them and they were clearly open so I decided to order in person. Since it was my first time here, I checked in and got a free cookie: lemon thyme shortbread...it was really yummy. The cashier helped me pick items without rushing me and was very friendly. Our to-go order came out quickly! It was packed well and did not disappoint! My earl grey tea was piping hot and flavorful. We had the spinach and tomato quiche with a side salad and the black bean burger. The burger was tasty but it was messy to eat. It also had beet in it which surprised me. We were eating and driving so no pics this time! I will definitely be coming back when I am in the area again!!

Yelp
This place is a gem! I've now visited twice: once in January and again last week. Atmospherically, the site is comfortable and welcoming. There is an array of different table and seat styles which make the space sweet and eclectic. Tea cups and sauces sit at every table. Open Door knows how to do tea! My partner and I drink a lot of tea and know it well (from tea harvesting to regional differences in tea to proper temp control, etc.). Unlike so many places, Open Door knows this as well. They serve tea in the correct water temperature and set up a timer for steeping at the table. The food is just as good as the tea. I've only ever gotten light fare or pastries, but Open Door does these things expertly. The quiche is delicious. My partner got a twice baked sweet potato with goat cheese and balsamic that she raved about. The pastries are amazing. I'm not a vegan, but have had the vegan brownie and couldn't tell there was no dairy in it. The cookies and scones are also delicious. I can't wait to go back for more. I was so busy enjoying my food and tea that I didn't take a photo. The photo you see attached is of the loose leaf Cream Oolong I bought to take home. This is a delicious green tea with a hint of a milky flavor on account of how it's processed. It's delicious.

Yelp
Good vegetarian and vegan options. Avocado toast with poached egg was our favorite meal.

Yelp
Wow, just wow! This experience was so quaint and was an absolute perfect start to my morning. I was just trying to find a to-go coffee near me but ended up finding this gem and stayed to dine-in. The owners greeted us with a smile and a big welcome. They explained in detail about the place and their offerings. I landed on trying their tea and grabbed a small bite for breakfast. I had their citrusy earl grey which might be my favorite tea I've ever tried and it came with.. just you wait.. a tea timer! They gave me a french press with my tea, the tea timer, and had cups ready on the table for when it was fully steeped. What a pleasant little experience. My breakfast, which I was too eager to dig into and forgot to take a picture of, was their broccoli quiche. It was so buttery and the portion was perfect. I then checked-in on Yelp and found that you get a free cookie when you do so! I grabbed the lemon thyme cookie and it was perfect to pair with my tea. This place is perfect. If I could open a cafe, it would be something that resembled this. I felt so at home and you can tell there's really a nice community here that they promote to their customers. So glad I found this place.

Yelp
I've been here twice for lunch, so I decided to book a tea party here for 30 women. Sarah was a dream to work with in planning the event! It was... Phenomenal. Spectacular. Amazing. The personalized service by the pleasant staff members was the best I've had in a long time! Our private room was filled with lots of tea-themed items decorating the walls and tables, and the pretty mantel with cozy chairs was a perfect photo op!! A huge variety of flavorful teas can be found here. The Strawberry Glow (with lemongrass, hibiscus & orange) tastes as tangy & delicious as it sounds. The scones -- blueberry, cranberry-orange and cheddar chive -- were moist and flavorful. The cucumber sandwiches with herbed cream cheese spread were good and what you would expect. The chicken salad (cranberries, almonds, mayo) served on a croissant was heavenly! And the Open Door Salad was a perfect combination of sweet and savory! Would order this again and again! Only the flavor combination of the vegan delight sandwich (vegetables, hummus, avocados, tomatoes, almonds & sunflower seeds with balsamic) seemed a little strong. But the whole experience is still worth 5 stars!! Everyone had such a WONDERFUL time and I would definitely like to host another tea party here!! Thank you to Sarah and the rest of the gang who helped to make my party a success!

Yelp
I feel cozy, warm, and open when I'm here. Good vibes for sure. The avocado toast with balsamic and poached egg is so so good.

Saira K.

Yelp
Open Door Tea is a cafe in downtown Stratford by the green. There's free parking in front of the cafe. The inside is really pretty. There's fancy tables and fancy tea cups. The quiche is really good. There's also a good lemon thyme cookie. Don't miss the scones with butter.

Kelly H.

Yelp
I went to this location after reading my fellow Yelp Elite Meredith's review! I'm a sucker for a warm cup of tea, especially a place that has an extensive tea menu! My partner and I went on a rainy day which was PERFECT for tea! Everyone thought so too so by the time we arrived it was absolutely full of people enjoying their tea and yummy treats! The staff members were so kind to take our name and number down. They shared they would call us when a table was available which they did! Not only did they call us - but they also left a RESERVED sign on the table meant for us! It's the little details that truly mean so much. This place is cozy and warm. It has a good calming energy to it. You order at the counter and they bring your food and tea to you! The tea is steeped in a French press which is perfect for 2 people! This can be filled with hot water again. I chose the anxi oolong which was a PERFECT recommendation. I lean towards more calming subtle teas and this was exactly it. My partner ordered a kielbasa quiche which he demolished in seconds! I didn't even get to try it out because it was THAT good! I ordered the Deluxe Chicken Salad and holy cow it was DELICIOUS. The scoop of chicken salad was incredibly generous and the veggies were so fresh. Not a blemish in the vegetable in sight. Overall, this place is truly magnificent. I adore that tea is served to you in little tea cups. The staff is so kind and patient when it comes to selecting your perfect tea. I cannot wait to be back in this area in order to come back to this gem!

Jenteel P.

Yelp
Cute tea spot, love the concept! I went early in the pandemic, around 2021. They've expanded since then, so now they have more seating which is what was lacking before. It's a great place to get some work done or have a breakfast meeting. I had a yummy large chaga chai latte and a vegan breakfast wrap. My friend had the Spanish style vegan soup. Cozy and no one is rushing you out, which is an added plus.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
this is a lovely little shop with a good selection of teas and delicious food to go along with it. The decor is a mixture of antiques that go along with the china tea cups and plates making it fun. i ordered the strawberry salad special along with a cup of red lentil and lemon soup. Both were delicious and fresh. i signed in on Yelp and was given a free cookie of my choice so I chose the chocolate chip.

Alyssa Z.

Yelp
I love a good tea from Open Door! I also really enjoy their salads and their scones! The staff there is very friendly.

Lauren T.

Yelp
Quaint, social, specializes in tea along with fellowship! The women were warm welcoming and eager to make the experience one to remember

S E.

Yelp
Ordered a Nutty Goat salad to-go. Had to pick through it and throw 2/3 of it away because some of the greens were going bad and bits of slimy ones were covering the rest.

Susan T.

Yelp
The food was very good but the service was absolutely awful! Had to clean our own table. Asked for a spoon to stir tea (IT'S A TEA HOUSE!) and was told in a nasty tone that they were in the middle of a rush and I was handed a fork! Got my meal 15 minutes before my dining companion did and then they brought the wrong meal for her. Only one person apologized. Everyone else was harried and annoyed. There seemed to be plenty of staff so not sure what was going on today. Believe in giving second chances so I will probably go back but not anytime soon.

T V.

Yelp
Great food and tea in a cute cozy atmosphere. All of the staff are super sweet as well!

Sara A.

Yelp
I've visited Stratford two weekends in the past month. I started off every morning by visiting this gem of a cafe. Masala Chai latte was made fresh, tasted amazing, and looked stunning. The mocha was something special with dark chocolate flavors. The espresso itself was of a high quality. The baristas were so sweet and personable which created a nice calm and embracing atmosphere.

Yelp
Decided to try this venue for a birthday celebration with a group of people, and made reservations in advance based on several recommendations. Unfortunately, they had a private event going on, so a decent size table in a space that would make sense for us was not available. They crammed us into a tiny table in the main dining area by the front door, which meant every time the door opened, we were welcomed with a gust of cold wind. This led to me having to eat with my coat on, so the experience was not as expected. If I had known in advance that the room to the side was booked or that we would be on top of the front door, I would not have made a reservation and selected a different venue. Was not aware that this was counter service only and that the food will come to you once prepared. It was somewhat disjointed and confusing, some of our tables had to wait in line, and those that ordered last got their food first. It took a good amount of time for all of us to get our food. Not sure why it is set up this way, it doesn't make sense. I was also told we had to bus our own place settings and silverware. For what they are charging and tips expected, that should be included. The food was decent, but nothing outstanding. The Open Door Tea salad I was given looked nothing like the photos on their website. It was primarily lettuce, with very little else, the butternut squash was dried out and the pieces were very small, with no taste. I had to get extra dressing because what the bowl of lettuce they gave me was very dry. The desserts were priced very high for the quality and serving size. I am not sure that I would try again, but if so, I would make sure it is not in the winter unless I was bundled up warmly.

Ralph B.

Yelp
Such a lovely spot that is so nicely adorned, welcoming, and cozy. The teas and coffees are excellent and the deserts are scrumptious. This is such an enjoyable and relaxing space and the staff are outstanding and so accommodating. Thanks!

Mary P.

Yelp
Beautiful tea service, absolutely drool worthy vegan baked goods and delicious tea lattes. The atmosphere is a step back in time with comfortable antique chairs and tables.

Rachel R.

Yelp
I worked with Dylan, Kasia, and Jeannie to set up and run multiple virtual tea tastings for employees at my company. The whole team was lovely and really thoughtful. The prices are very fair and you can get a discount on future tea purchases. My employees loved it!

Adia G.

Yelp
The ambience in this place is so amazing. The decor is so cozy and the options for tea are very numerous. A great place for a tea date or to curl up with a good book. The staff is really sweet too, they have seated yoga once a week too. I had a pressed juice with an spinach egg quiche when I visited both were really good. I recommend visiting at least once.

Liz G.

Yelp
I ordered the breakfast bowl to go and it was literally the saddest meal I've ever had. No flavor barely any greens and like two pieces of veggie very disappointing. Definitely was not worth 12 dollars what a rip off. First and last time there. I gave two stars for the decor.

Bonnie R.

Yelp
Great spot to meet friends for lunch. I love their quiche with side salad--pair with an iced tea and I am a happy woman. They also have wonderful baked goods including several gluten free options. The (not gluten free) carrot cake is soooo good!!

Anthony M.

Yelp
Open Door Tea is a hidden gem. My wife and I absolutely loved the tea, food and overall atmosphere. I felt like I was in a cozy cafe in the south of France.

Mer C.

Yelp
Food choices for everyone! The vegan items are delicious! Barbara is the best when it comes to knowing tea! I LOVE my Open Door Tea Room stainless beverage container!

Akhila R.

Yelp
This is a very beautiful and well organized tea shop in CT. Well my words aren't enough as everything cannot be soo perfect the service is great, the interiors the sayings on the wall are great, food was great. It deserve a 5-star rating. This is good for anyone who is looking for a peaceful calm environment to study.

Chris S.

Yelp
For tea lovers, I'm sure this spot is not to be missed. My kids weren't huge fans of the flavors of the desserts but the adults were pleased. Very well themed and the decor was really fun and well done.

Dina V.

Yelp
We had such a wonderful experience with Kasia and Dylan - they hosted a private virtual tea tasting as part of our company sales conference and the tasting was easily the highlight of the entire event. Dylan was easy to work with and super communicative as we set up the entire event, from gathering mailing addresses, to shipping, to figuring out the types of teas and packages we should put together, and answering every question in between. The event itself was hosted by Kasia, and wow, her knowledge of the teas and the blends and their health benefits was incredible. She talked about the science and composition of the teas, the best time to drink different blends, and how different blends can help heal. She was warm and friendly and the whole experience was amazing. We had about 20 people, and each person received 3 samples of tea plus a steel infuser for brewing. We had folks all across the US, Hawaii, and the UK, and everything got delivered timely and well packaged. With the pandemic, we normally would have had everyone fly out to our corporate office, so finding something virtual and fun to do originally posed a challenge, but I am so glad I came across Open Door Tea!

Suzanne W.

Yelp
Absolutely adore this tea shop. We just had a fabulous lunch there on Mother's Day and from the tea to dessert it was delicious. There home made carrot cake is to die for abs that's saying a lot as I have baked carrot cake for over 30 years. It is our new favorite spot!

Joy D.

Yelp
The BEST tea room in Connecticut! The owner is very nice, nice selection of deserts, quiche, sandwiches, soup of the day, gluten free and vegetarian options. Lovely atmosphere with quaint table settings, each with a unique tea cup! I would definitely go back and I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.

Anthony M.

Yelp
Quaint little teahouse. Fantastic selection of teas, beautiful English bone china. Delightful accompanying cakes, very friendly service. Wonderfully calm ambiance and friendly service. Tony M.

Nikki R.

Yelp
This place is very lovely and relaxing. I went here on a whim and I could of stayed all day ordering little cakes and cappuccinos. The dishes were beautiful! Everyone was so nice there was soft Bridgerton type music playing in the background. The demographic of customers was so diverse. Very nice. All it was missing was a golden retriever wearing a little bow. Come here, stay awhile. Wear something cozy

Laraine B.

Yelp
Have not been back to Stratford for awhile and was so pleased to see that Open Door was still there! Great atmosphere, lovely owners and great food! Perfect lunch spot and again, everything we had was so tasty, especially Mama's Love . Good luck to this great establishment. Give it a try!!!!

Vivian T.

Yelp
I highly recommend their custom virtual tea tasting! I booked a session for 5 for a team building event at my company, and everyone at Open Door was very pleasant to work with, from curating a custom tea and chocolate pairing, to the wide breadth of knowledge shared during the tasting session. Every tea we received was well packaged, and seemed very fresh. I also really appreciated how the hosts emphasized that there's no "right" way to drink and brew tea, and it's up to individual taste. This made the overall environment feel much more safe and welcoming. I hope I'll be able to visit in person if I'm ever in CT!

Keen M.

Yelp
Has a wonderful atmosphere to it, and lovely tea and snacks. Definitely recommend to check out this little gem!

Meredith A.

Yelp
I was very happy to find that this place was as 5-star as I gathered from the reviews. We were coming back from another place in Stratford and wanted a drink/snack and Open Door Tea was on the way. Parking was easy right outside. They have a TON of tea varieties in addition to coffee. Like other reviews said, the staff was pretty knowledgeable. I was trying to decide between a strawberry flavor and a grapefruit but only the latter had caffeine so that narrowed it down. I also had a stuffed pepper (with lentils, chick peas, rice etc). which was delicious. My husband asked for 'whatever tea is the strongest' and he had a mix with some cocoa nibs and other nice flavors in addition to a caprese-type wrap which he said was good. You order at the counter and they bring the tea/food over to your table. What I thought was very cute is they don't just pour the tea into cups but rather they bring you super adorable personal-sized french presses with the tea brewing inside along with little hourglass timers to count down how long your tea has to steep. Clean cups are waiting at every table so we could sit wherever we wanted. The tea was really good, fresh, and flavorful. I loved the grapefruit flavor and the food was good too. I don't come to Stratford often but I'd easily recommend this place to friends who want to try some new tea flavors and check out a cute tea house (the kind with the tables and mismatched chairs and whatnot). Good warm stuff on a cold, icky day!

Margie C.

Yelp
Great little breakfast room. I love their broccoli quiche. They also have lunch items. Cozy spot with antique furnishings.
