Weekend lunch brings push carts with har gow, siu mai, and cheung fun, while a condensed dim sum menu runs daily. It’s a lively, family-run Hong Kong–style experience downtown, often praised by local food writers for keeping tradition alive.

Google
Very good dim sum for lunch. Had most of my favorites on the dim sum menu. Did not know where this was located then found an unassuming outside entry in a corner, until we went in and to find a modern clean airy restaurant. Lots of good menu options. Would come again to order from the main menu. Super friendly service and hospitable.

The fried rice is some of the best in the city. The double fried dan noodles were a pleasant surprise. They were crunchy and delicious. The service was excellent. The restaurant was really nice and offered tons of options.

I’ve been meaning to try this place out for a year and finally decided to go during Labor Day weekend, of course 😅 I got several items since dim sum is offered, and the boba tea. I usually get sesame chicken, because it’s a staple at most Asian restaurants, and the true test is if it tastes good. This was cooked exactly right with light breading, just enough sauce and not too hard or soft for chicken texture. I’ll definitely be ordering from here again!! It’s exactly what I was craving!

Wow, this place really blew us away. We have been dim sum lovers for quite some time and this place lived up to our standards. We only ordered from the dimsum menu tonight and we enjoyed every single dish. They came out hot and fresh. Lots of flavor especially soup dumplings and bbq pork buns. We will definitely be coming here more often. Service was amazing and the atmosphere was very spacious and clean!

Google
Not your average dim sum spot, it’s much better! Drove 1.5 hrs to eat here because there’s not a single dim sum restaurant in my town 🥲 you do have to park in the parking deck and walk a couple minutes to get to the building itself. We arrived at 3pm on Sunday and it was surprisingly very empty with only 4 or 5 other tables seated, not that I’m complaining! The dim sum itself is listed on a paper menu where you check off what you want, kind of like how it is at some sushi restaurants. They had the standard selection you’d expect and everything came out fairly quick. The bao buns, hawgao and shumai were the best out of the bunch. You can tell everything was made in house 😌 They also have a larger menu for main dishes but we didn’t get anything from there. Passionfruit boba tea was refreshing and tasty. It wasn’t overly sweet nor did it taste artificial. Boba texture was perfect! Our server was very friendly and attentive as well. Looking forward to coming back whenever we’re in Charlotte!

Google
Excellent service, excellent food and overall a great place to eat some Asian cuisine in downtown Charlotte. The appetizer portions are pretty small, but the entrée portions are fairly large so if you're interested in eating a lot, then I would also consider going straight to entrée or split an entrée with someone. overall I was very impressed with the quality of the food and customer service here l highly recommend this place!

Google
Loved the decor and atmosphere. Server was very informative for our first trip here, explaining the menus, how to order, and how to use the QR to get descriptions of items. Tried a variety of dim sum, bang bang chicken, ramen, and char sui. Have a drink menu with images to help you select. Everything was delish. Definitely intend to return and try the dessert menu.

We discovered Open Rice Metropolitan based on its stellar reputation in the culinary community. The restaurant offers convenient parking options, including street-side parking and a parking deck. The service is prompt and courteous, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. The cuisine at Open Rice Metropolitan is truly authentic and exceptionally flavorful. The extensive menu provides a plethora of options, each one meticulously prepared. Our selections were nothing short of delightful, reminiscent of the vibrant flavors found in Hong Kong. Notably, the dim sum dishes stood out, leaving us craving more. While the quality of the food is commendable, it’s worth noting that the prices lean toward the higher end. Despite this, our overall experience was positive, and we wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to fellow food enthusiasts.

Yelp
My wife asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday. So I said let's have something different. I searched Yelp for dim sum and found Open Rice. The ratings weren't spectacular, but it was the closest place from home, so I said let's give it a try. Boy, am I glad we did. Got there Monday just before noon, and as it turned out, just ahead of the crowd. Phil was our waiter and explained everything to us and made us feel welcomed. We ordered 8 items off the dim sum menu and they were all delicious. We talked about which dish was the best, but we couldn't choose, they were all great. Our only regret is that it's 17 miles from home, but in retrospect that's probably a good thing because I'd be coming here every week if it were closer. They only bring out the carts on Saturday and Sunday, but having experienced that elsewhere, we were fine ordering off the menu. We will definitely go back. And thank you Phil for taking such good care of us.

Yelp
Large portion, delicious food. Went with the family and ordered a few dishes. I had the lobster & shrimp fried rice. The waitress recommended their yum yum sauce, with a squeeze of lemon, it was delicious. So much so I went back and got a to go order the next week! Note - the to go order seemed smaller and they charged for the yum yum sauce.... Literally took my credit card for $1 for half filled portion cup of sauce...

Yelp
Of course, going to a new area you have to find an Asian place with dim sum. Not only did we find a place for dim sum, they also have a good selection of gluten-free dishes. It took us quite a while to find this place. After parking across the street, I think we might have walked back and forth for a good 30 mins just to find out it's tucked in the corner When we arrived, we were amazed by the decor and thinking to ourselves, damn, the dishes were going to be pricey. In fact, it actually wasn't pricey at all, especially the size of their dishes.  At first, my fiancé was about to order dim sum until he saw the gluten-free menu and ordered a pineapple fried rice for 19.50, a bit pricey for fried rice, and when it came to our table it was a huge portion. I still order dim sum. The chicken feet were very meaty, steamed spare ribs were also meaty as well. The beef chung fun. It was OK. I had better.  This place will definitely be on our list when we head back to Charlotte.

Yelp
TLDR: Best Chinese food in Charlotte I grew up in a Chinese household, which unfortunately made me extra critical of Chinese restaurants. That said, Charlotte's Chinese food scene is pretty limited, especially if you've moved here from places like New York, D.C., or the West Coast, where the Chinese restaurant scene is incredibly robust. Open Rice doesn't quite measure up to the best I've had elsewhere, but I still feel comfortable saying it's currently the best Chinese food in Charlotte. My boyfriend and I ordered a variety of dishes, but the highlights were the morning glory (seasonal vegetable), pork char siu, eggplant, and Singapore noodles. The dim sum, however, left much to be desired if you've ever experienced push-cart style dim sum, and the Peking duck was just okay. Despite that, Open Rice really shines with their stir-fried vegetables--well-seasoned and perfectly cooked. The Singapore noodles came with a generous amount of shrimp and chicken, and weren't overly greasy. The char siu ended up being my favorite--it was flavorful and served over a generous bed of bok choy. Overall, I'd give Open Rice a 4/5. While not anything like a Chinese restaurant in a Chinatown in other cities, it's the best Chinese option Charlotte currently has to offer.

Yelp
While visiting Charlotte, NC, we were craving some good Asian food--and wow, we found a gem! Honestly, it felt like the Cheesecake Factory of Asian cuisine--huge menu, tons of variety, and something for everyone. We ordered the cast iron fried rice, chicken and broccoli, steamed bok choy, pho, Vietnamese veggie rolls, and topped it off with two boba teas for dessert. Every dish we tried was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The portions were generous and everything tasted fresh and well-seasoned. Safe to say, this spot totally satisfied our Asian food fix--and we'd definitely go back just to try more from the menu. Now for the not-so-great part: the service. It was our first time, and unfortunately, our server wasn't much help. She couldn't really explain the menu or make recommendations, and it felt like she was just taking our order and moving on.For a place with such a great kitchen, it's a shame the front-of-house experience didn't match. All in all, the food was excellent and the variety is enough to keep us coming back. Hopefully, management puts the same love into training their staff as they do into their menu--because this place has serious potential.

Yelp
At long last I made it here for lunch on a Wednesday. This is not an easy place to get too, especially if you're coming from South Carolina. I had a real good Dim Sum meal of BBQ pork bun, Siu Mai, Shrimp and Chive dumplings. It was good, not quite as good as I was expecting but better than most. I had real good service from Yang. There is free parking at the Metropolitan parking garage. I expect it might be better on the weekend when they do the Dim Sum cart service. I thought the prices were reasonable for the quality.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Open Rice Metropolitan for a while now and I'm so glad I finally did! Everything about my experience was perfect. The waitress was kind, knowledgeable, attentive, and just an over all rockstar! I truly wish I could remember her name to call her out but when I return I will do a follow up review. The food was incredible. We tried a little of everything since we went for a friend's birthday dinner. The duck is impeccable! A must have for its flavor and juiciness! A half duck was enough for two to split especially if you do any appetizers. Speaking of appetizers, we absolutely loved the fried golden buns. They taste like a traditional Chinese donut and had a taste sweet icing on the side. The inside is very modern and there is an upstairs and downstairs section. They also host events if anyone is ever interested in hosting an event in their space.

Yelp
I am so glad we found this place! Went after picking my nephew up from the airport in Charlotte. Top notch dim sum! Also LOVED the beef Bulgogi. I only took pics of the beef and pork buns. We also had shumai, and I believe something with lotus leaf in the name. I ordered extra pork buns to go! Our server was super charismatic and helpfu, especially when I asked for an antidote for putting too much chili sauce on the food, lol! I will go back here EVERY time I go to Charlotte!

Yelp
4.5/5 stars Went on a Wednesday evening at 6 for a girls dinner. There were plenty of tables. We ordered a combination of dim sum and other dishes and everything was yum! Unfortunately only remembered to photograph a couple things. One friend enjoyed the food so much that they went back again the next night for takeout. There's a regular menu and a page with handwritten specials. Lot's to choose from even a bubble tea and bubble waffle menu. One of my friends has a Service Dog and we had no issues. The only surprising thing was that we were a group of 5 and we got gratted. I didn't notice at first, so definitely watch your check so you don't double tip!

Yelp
Visiting Charlotte and found this placed based on yelp. I agree with other reviews - the dining space was very modern and tall. Env is pretty relaxing. Most of the dishes we have tried are very good and authentic- there is a few I would not order again First - the good ones. Beef Chow fun - was one of the most authentic I have had since we moved to NC. The flat noodle had good texture and flavored right and beef spices were sizable and tender. Salted fish fried rice is what I missed most from Chinatown in the big apple. This dish here had great flavor and little pieces of the salted fish. If anything - I'd like 50% more salted fish. Chicken feet is also great. Other dim sum dishes are good as well. Except the few Not a great hit - Golden buns were full of oil including inside for at least one of them - It looked like a re-fried. I would not order it again. So for me golden buns were good at @ G58 in Raleigh. Soup dumplings - by the look of it - it's not fresh made - tasted weird , I would not order again. If it is not for the above two items , I'd have a 5 star. Hope they can improve.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday for brunch and was seated immediately with a party of 5 people. We were immediately greeted with an array of hot dishes available from the cart and were able to try a lot of different food. Everything was so good and our bellies were so full by the end. We still had room for dessert though! The interior is very clean and well lit. A great place to gather with friends and family. The staff is so friendly and everything exceeded our expectations for a dim sum restaurant in CLT. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
If you're looking for a dim sum cart place, this is the place to go. They open promptly at 11:30AM on Saturday and they come around with carts as soon as you sit down! The servers are attentive and quick, it's not your typical hole in the wall dim sum with Chinese decor that would expect so we were skeptical but more modernized with the same great dim sum options. Highly recommend dinning here for dim sum brunch!

Yelp
Great food great service. Everything was great The surface were in effectively clean and eligible. The management staff was absolutely spectacular. I had the clams with black beans sauce and a few dim sum dishes. Everything was exception.

Yelp
Love this place! I just ordered delivery from here for the second time - so I can't speak to the dine-in experience. The first time, I ordered the Singapore noodles, spicy garlic edamame, and the lychee boba tea. I was unable to request no shrimp in my noodles online, so I called after placing my order and had no problem! Everything was hot and full of flavor. Portion sizes are great- I made two full meals out of everything. Tonight I ordered the sesame chicken with broccoli and fried rice and the lychee boba again. The chicken was perfectly cooked and very obviously "real" and not a chicken nugget consistency. Again, portions are large and I saved my meal for lunch tomorrow. The lychee boba is delicious and I don't think I could place another order without adding it.

Yelp
This place has the best tasting dim sum in North Carolina and I am comparing from the Raleigh Durham Chapel Hill area! If I could give this place 10 stars I would! I was visiting Charlotte for a weekend and came here for Sunday dim sum brunch. I arrived at noon right at their opening time and the place was already starting to fill up! We were a party of 2 and were greeted and seated at a nice big table immediately. The restaurant was decent in size, and bright and airy and clean with minimal yet pleasing decor. The service was super friendly, prompt, and upbeat and everybody from the lady who took my drink order to the youngest dim sum cart pushers I've ever seen (I'm used to seeing the little old ladies in New York and China behind the carts as opposed to the teen and college aged men and ladies who work here) to the nice man who took my card payment, I enjoyed my interaction with them all! Everyone was patient and kind and I had lovely conversations with them. In addition to our dishes of dim sum we also ordered a lobster noodle and it was all authentic and delicious! I would drive 3 hours back just to be able to have lunch here! In comparison Dim Sum House near the RTP airport really needs to step it up with their reheated frozen dishes that taste like it came from microwave.

Yelp
General Tso's Chicken (4/5): Pretty solid, but nothing special. I wish the chicken was a little crispier. The flavor was nice and I liked the spicy szechuan peppers. The fried rice was also pretty standard.  Crab Rangoon (3/5): This had more crab flavor than most crab rangoons I've had, but the shell wasn't very good. The filling also didn't fill out the shell super well.  RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

Yelp
I'll preface this with the context that I lived in China for a year and I am vegetarian. So, my dim sum standards are pretty high and I cannot eat several of the dim sum "staples." We went here for my birthday. We got a smattering of dishes, but they all were just okay. There are not many dim sum options in Charlotte, so I guess this could be the best among all of the options? In my personal opinion, I'd rather save my $$ and just eat at a better CLT restaurant and get dim sum the next time I'm in ATL or NYC.

Yelp
Really good place I found for early dinner this afternoon! I walked in just before 420pm and was seated right away. The wait staff was very helpful. I knew I wanted pot stickers but for the entree I wasn't sure - I couldn't decide between the Malaysian curry and the chicken pineapple shrimp fried rice. After discussing both with my waiter I ended up on the curry. It was very good!!! It had just a bit of spice but he brought me a dish of soy sauce and a dish of chili oil so I was able to add a bit of chili oil to heat it up a bit. Temperature wise it came out very hot! The bowl was chock full off chicken and shrimp and crab and noodles. Very flavorful. Definitely would return.

Yelp
This is a rare find and a delightful treat! The ambiance is chic, clean and modern. The service is incredible, all the staff are super friendly and welcoming. The food was INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS. Authentic Asian food. This is a true Asian dining experience. There are multiple staff members rotating through the restaurant offering a very wide variety of dim sum to try. From shumai, to roasted duck, stuffed eggplant to braised chicken feet. You name it, they probably had it. You can choose to order from the menu, order dim sum or both, both menu items and the dim sum are excellent. Must tries are the dumplings, the Thai chili eggplant and the bolgulgi. But honestly, this is a place where you want to explore the menu. It's sure not to disappoint!

Yelp
Could barely get service here....left and went to Pisces next door for sushi. Hopefully next time shall be different....this used to be a much frequent place of mine when it was a Mediterranean restaurant with valet parking.

Yelp
Tried Open Rice on Metropolitan for the second time yesterday. My first time was about a month ago. You do not need reservations here. Upon entry, you'll notice an open and airy restaurant that is fairly modern. The noise level is average. We had the slushy lychee boba tea the first time. It was really good. This time, I tried the regular boba tea which was suggested by our waitress. I actually did like the regular boba tea over the slushy one. 5/5 Next, we ordered our food. I opted for the gluten-free Singapore Shrimp and Chicken Rice Noodles. My hubby opted for the Sizzling Grilled Chicken. The food came out within 15-20 minutes. My food was absolutely delicious. They give a good size portion too. 5/5. My hubby rated his drink and food a 5/5 too. We highly recommend this restaurant to others looking for a good Asian spot in the city.

Yelp
Really nice restaurant in the Metropolitan area of Charlotte. I love this area because they have lots of free parking in the decks. The restaurant is huge with lots of seating. I was able to get seated right away on a Saturday night. Our server was very nice and helpful as well. I tried the golden buns and they were so good! They were like fluffy, warm donuts and they came with a side of sweetened condensed milk to dip them in. I got the beef bulgogi as my entree and added the fried rice. The beef was so flavorful and tender. The rice was also really flavorful. I loved the veggies as well. I also tried some of the sesame chicken. It was really good as well! Overall, everything was amazing and I will definitely come back to try other dishes!

Yelp
I would say that this place has the most authentic dim sum experience in Charlotte at the moment. Although it's pricey, it has a nice atmosphere. Additionally, the servers were friendly and would check up on us frequently. It was popular and packed during lunch hour on Sunday, but this place seats a lot of people and has two floors. We ordered several items from the carts: BBQ pork rolls, spared ribs in black bean sauce, pork dumplings with shrimp (siu mai), fried taro dumplings, and several other items that are not pictured. We also ordered the beef chow fun and the Hong Kong roasted duck. Some dishes (e.g. the spared rib in black bean sauce) lacked flavor; the duck both lacked flavor and was hard to chew. Out of everything we got, I would highly recommend the beef chow fun and the braised chicken feet. You can probably skip on the roasted duck.

Yelp
The food here is amazing, there's so much on the menu you'll have to come back to try everything! Definitely get the Lychee boba tea and the sauce in the crispy tofu is TO DIE FOR I kid you not! Great service too, they're so friendly, awesome at giving suggestions, and fast Huge open floor plan so not very private if you want to come here for a romantic date night but great for a casual dinner spot. Free parking in the Trader Joe's parking deck right across the street

Yelp
Good legit food, the kinds we are used to when we were living in Southern California.

Yelp
After our favorite dim sum places all shut down, we happened on this place and decided to give it a try. We were promptly seated and drink orders taken. Our server was very attentive and helpful. We ordered the pork and chive dumplings, shrimp har dow and pork and shrimp siu mai. Also got the bok choy and Thai chili eggplant and the double pan fried noodles. The kids ordered the ombré strawberry boba and tarp boba. I was surprised at how vastly they differed in their sweetness. The strawberry tea was like dessert! The double pan fried noodles were my favorite, as well as all of the dumplings. My husband loved the eggplant. Double pan fried noodles aren't spicy so good for the whole family to share. The restaurant is very clean and well decorated. It's very different from the other dim sum places we've frequented. Prices are a little bit on the higher side but it's a good place to splurge once in a while! Parking is off the street or in the Trader Joe's building across the street.

Yelp
Sorry I couldn't take any photos but here are the dishes we ordered and recommended. Roasted duck: 5/5 very moist and flavorful. Not greasy at all like a few other restaurants. It went well with hot steamed rice. Stone pot beef: 4-5/5 standard beef stew. tender but not mushy beef tendon and beef shank. Beef chowfun: 5/5 smoky and flavorful beef chowfun. I can't expect a better version of it. Morning glory saute with fermented bean curd: 4/5 good and standard. A bit small portion. Egg custard bun: 5/5, it's a lot better when enjoyed after being steamed hot. Soft bun, larva flowing egg custard. My favourite. Ah, I forgot to mention their hot chilly oil. The chilly flakes are crispy and hot. It goes so well with the roasted duck. I came back the second day to order the same thing. The staffs are also very nice. The restaurant is modern, spacious and clean. Please keep up the good work. Will come back when I'm back to Charlotte.

Yelp
Wish I live closer to eat here more often. This place was delish. I'm not a fan of fusion but Open Rice knock it out of the park on this one. The service was great! Shout out to Ella. We got the Beef Chow Fun, kimchi Fried Rice with Cheese, Beef Brisket Clay Pot and the kingdom Chicken. By far the fried rice and chow fun were the best. The restaurant was beautifully designed. Just go!

Yelp
10/19 recommend. I haven't been able to dine in just yet but will be back soon to do so. I had a take out order, and man the food was delish!!! I ordered fried rice and my husband had general tso, and it rocked my taste buds. I have been looking for good fried rice since I moved here from California and this is it! I wish I lived closer but I'm about 45 minutes away and haven't been able to stop thinking about it. This location looks very nice inside for dining so I will be back to try it out.

Yelp
We had the best time! We went for dim sum on a Saturday. The entire staff is so friendly and helpful when explaining what each dish is. We tried a lot of new things. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious! My favs were pork congee, sesame balls and shrimp balls. I also ordered some garlic spinach from the kitchen. It was perfect! Will def be back to try more items from the menu.

Robert M.

Yelp
Food is delicious! Love the baby bokchoy! There's also other dishes to make for great choices as well!

Emily W.

Yelp
one of the classic Asian dining spots around here. Food is great quality! Everything comes out so quickly. The variety on the menu allowed me to choose a totally different meal from my boyfriend and enjoyed every bit!

Yelp
I My family and I had an awesome experience at this location. I usually dine at another location. I love the atmosphere and vibe. Service was really great. Also the staff is very attentive to the patrons. Finally I left my ATM card at the restaurant. I was worried about the card, couldn't contact them because I didn't realize the card was missing until after closing hours. I called as soon as they opened on Sunday morning. Lo, and behold my card was found at the restaurant. After church I went to the restaurant and got my card. The people on the restaurant are amazing. I am so glad there are still good. GOD FEARING people in the world. Thanks to the staff ar Open Rice at the Metropolitan location.

Yelp
I'm happy to have a nice dimsum place in Charlotte. This place has a push dimsum cart for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. This is my second time to eat dimsum here. I'm pleased with the dimsum selection, taste and the friendly service. I highly recommend this place for dimsum. The restaurant is bright, clean and very pleasant. I plan to come and and try their regular menu next time.

Yelp
Let's prefix this by saying I'm a self professed Dim Sum snob. After having Dim Sum in New York and Atlanta the flavors and quality here just didn't reach the Dim Sum standard for me. Plus the bill starts to add up quick if you aren't careful so the food has to be good!!! The best item we ordered was the duck. It was full of flavor. The spare ribs were the worst! They were chewy and fatty. The BBQ Pork roll was mainly rice noodle as there was barely any pork inside and it wasn't flavorful. The Shu Mai was just ok but I wouldn't order it again. The Potstickers and Char Suri were ok nothing to write home about. The Chili oil is super spicy. We normally when eating Dim Sum order multiples of our favorite items but we only ordered one of each here nothing was worth ordering again for us. Next time I visit this location I will only order off the menu and skip Dim Sum. However I'm really happy they offer Dim Sum and that they have the carts. It warms my heart that we (Charlotte)have this option again. However the line to pay was crazy!!! They made everyone stand in line up front to pay. One lady added how many small, medium and larger items you ordered. Another at a register totaled everything. After standing in line for 15 almost 20 minutes another guy swooped in and took my check processed my card in the back and gave me the receipt. I wish the server just handled the check and they figured out out to streamline the process. Open Rice 1100 Metropolitan Ave Ste 100 Charlotte, NC 28204 (Review 38 in 2023 and 778 overall)

Yelp
Disclaimer: we reached about 30 minutes before they closed for lunch. The restaurant itself is open and nice, with a lot of seating, and situated in a prime location. I liked that you could basically pick up any appetiser you liked off of the trolleys that were being rolled around. But as much as I liked the concept, the application was a little confusing, especially for a table with some 8 people. It didn't make sense that the entire table only got 1 appetiser marking sheet, making it difficult to keep a track of who ordered what, and then spilt the bill accordingly. For my main course, I order a kimchi skillet as per our server's recommendation. The portion size was HUGE, but it lacked the kimchi flavour in my opinion. It was a tasty fried rice dish, just not kimchi fried rice dish. I can see this being a better experience at any other given time, but sadly for us it was very overwhelming and not in a good way. But I'd still want to give this place another shot, as the food is good.

Yelp
Went for dim sum with extended family who live just outside NYC so our usual go to is the Golden Unicorn in Chinatown. First thing we noticed was how bright and clean it was, not something you find very often in Chinatown. We were seated quickly despite having a large group. Tables were mostly rectangular, I would have preferred a round one to make food sharing easier. We were there on Saturday so they had the carts going. All the food was very good. My only comment is that one of the steam cart guys didn't open the boxes to show us the food. He had us tell him what we wanted and referred us to the menu sheet. As a result we missed a couple things my BIL would have snagged if he saw them. Overall it was a solid experience and I would go again when visiting Charlotte.

Yelp
Dimsum has to be one of my top favorite category of dishes of all time. So when I heard that Open Rice had them, I got so excited because dimsum in Charlotte is very scarce. When we got there, I only found out that they only served dimsum during lunch. NOWHERE in their website will you find information about this. (-1 star) We came back another day and was able to try dimsum. Their staff was delightful, friendly, and very helpful. One the of the cart servers reminded me of my aunties back at home who would always tell me which ones to eat. The dining area has high ceilings accommodating great natural lighting and spacious ventilation. Interior has a modern clean finish with a touch of an upscale Asian vibe. We ordered siu mai, turnip cake, spare ribs chicken feet, shrimp dumplings, pork baos, egg tarts, sesame balls, and pork soup dumplings. Loved the siu mai, just the right balance of shrimp and pork. Turnip cake was soft, light, and flavorful just the way we liked it. Spare ribs were okay. Soft and tasty but the flavor was a little off. Chicken was cooked well, soft, and flavorful. Shrimp dumplings were fresh and packed with juice and flavor. Pork baos were soft, sweet, and tasty. Egg tarts and sesame balls just had the right amount of sweetness. Soup dumplings. Xiao long bao. My favorite dimsum of all. Usually when I order xiao long baos, they should not be coming from the cart so that the soup is still plump and hot. The soup dumplings that we ordered came from the cart. NO SOUP. It was already dry as you can see in the picture and might been sitting in the cart for too long. This place has so much potential. And I will still go back here to support them. Most of the dimsum tasted well. I really hope that they will try to improve the things I've mentioned above.

Yelp
Great location. Huge inside with tons of seating. We came at 11:40a on a daisy and we seated right away. Great selection. Fresh dim sum. Good service! Pricey but nice treat. Can't wait to come again! Parking available in garage.

Yelp
This is me and my boyfriend's go to for Dim Sum and Chinese food in Charlotte! I've never had one bad dish at Open Rice. Every menu item is not only fresh, but comes out hot! My favorite dishes are: - Garlic bok choy - 5 spice half chicken - Clay pot beef - Kingdom Chicken - ALL OF THE DIM SUM For drinks they offer many NA bevs, including boba. If you would like a drink with your meal, they serve wine, beer and sake. I really enjoy this restaurant before we go shopping at TJ's (Trader Joes) across the street. See you all soon!

Yelp
I was craving Beef Chow Fun, and recalled that Open Rice did this dish justice. This was my first time trying out this 2nd location at Metropolitan...and just like the 1st (though different!), it had that cool (cold!), minimalistic vibe. Think the only decor accents were some cool light fixtures near the ceiling? I didn't find their color palette (a mix of ivory and blue?) too appealing.. I get that their "spacey" ambiance might have been playing into the name, "Open" Rice...but I just didn't find this ambiance very welcoming. Another thing I noticed right away was how their A/C wasn't on...or if it was, it wasn't down low enough. It was a humid day, and it was just as humid inside. So far, not great! Now the good parts. They had good (can't recall the exact musical genre, but I remember thinking it was appropriate) overhead music, so that helped to fill up their empty ambiance. Also, the service was fast, friendly and attentive. Finally, the best parts! Although some Asian fusion, most of the foods seemed to be Chinese (just like the Blakeney location)...but here, their menu seemed even more extensive, in that it included Dim Sum selections for lunch! Since I came with a specific craving for Beef Chow Fun, I ordered that, plus this enticing Dim Sum item, Fried Taro Dumplings. Also, Thai Iced Tea. Well, the Beef Chow Fun was just as good as I remembered. However, the portion was a bit smaller...yet, the price went up a bit. Luckily, it was delicious...so no major regrets. The Fried Taro Dumplings had a very interesting texture, with minced pork inside...and I had no problem eating all of it. Good...but I wasn't bowled over by them. Their Thai Iced Tea was solid...but again, the portion was a bit small. Overall, I really liked the place. The foods were just as great, if not better than the 1st location. However, I preferred the vibe at the Blakeney location, though it, too, is quite cold and stark. Quite ironic...that despite the cold ambiance, the place was humid. The exact opposite of what I like...that is, warmer, or richer ambiance at cooler temperature setting. Guess these factors stopped me from loving the place. Still, am more than likely to return for their foods.

Yelp
My sister recommended this place a while back and I was happy to learn they opened this location. It's been on my list for a few months, but I hadn't gone since the Blakeney location is quite a drive for me. A friend and I went here on an early Saturday evening and we were promptly seated. The restaurant is very spacious and open. It's a really nice atmosphere. Our waiter came within minutes and took our drink order. I ended up getting the Kingdom Chicken and my friend got the Lump Crabmeat & Shrimp Fried Rice. Both dishes were yummy. There was an ample amount of crabmeat in the fried rice as well as shrimp and the dish was very flavorful. The Kingdom Chicken was also delicious. The chicken was moist and I liked the sauce, although it was very sweet - just an fyi. The waiter recommended a really great unfiltered sake which I had never tried before and we enjoyed it. I'm so glad I finally got a chance to visit Open Rice. A+ service, food and atmosphere. I can't wait to go back to try other dishes.

Yelp
Came here with a friend for dim sum brunch and had a great time! Ambiance is clean and simple. The restaurant was busy with all different types of groups, from large families to small groups. There aren't a lot of great restaurants like this in Charlotte, so excited that they've opened this location and will definitely be back! We got a variety of items from the carts, most were delicious, the chive and shrimp dumpling and the steamed shrimp rice rolls were our least favorite. Loved the bbq pork bun, shrimp siu mai and turnip cake. We also got the double pan fried noodles which were great. The restaurant has dishes from all over East Asia, but we chose to stick with more "local" items since the restaurant is more Hong Kong centric.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for a while now. My significant other and I went to dine in around lunch time and got seated upon entering. The atmosphere of the place is busy and loud. The layout of the place is pretty tight and with the big metal carts and regular carts of food squeezing through. From their website I saw that they can fit 200 capacity. One thing that I was excited to try here was the lotus sticky rice, which did not disappoint. It was sticky, savory, and sweet from the lotus wrap and pork/mushrooms filling. Of course I have to try their duck! The duck skin was crisp to the lips and extremely juicy. Everything else on their dim sum menu was amazing, especially the shrimp dumplings. You can taste the whole individual shrimp. Most definitely will be coming back to try their other food on the menu.

Yelp
Dim sum delish! This place was hopping Saturday brunch time, so we knew it must be good. Open Rice delivered surprisingly well with a broad array of options that made the experience even better than planned. People were friendly and attentive, though check out was slow (if you're in the taking money business, do it fast so people don't have the chance to wander off!) We'll be back, and we'll bring friends!

Yelp
This is the 2nd time my husband and I went to Open Rice. The first time was to have dim sum. It was delicious. The 2nd time was to have something from the regular menu. 1st we had to order the bubble tea. He had the Thai milk tea and I had the Hong Kong milk tea with boba (less sweet version of the Thai tea). Def love starting with these. We ordered the crab ragoon, bok choy, duck, bulgogi, pineapple fried rice, and some jalapeño stuffed peppers. Everything was delicious and I would order it all over again. We will definitely be back for a 3rd visit. The staff are friendly and the place is clean. Parking is whatever the metropolitan parking deck has to offer. It's not terrible though. Both times we have gone, there was no crazy line.
