My friends and I had a really good time watching college basketball and catching up with each other at Open Road Grill in Falls Church. It was a warm and friendly environment, conducive sports fueled meet up! I would definitely recommend this location for anyone who is interested in watching sports, getting some good comfort food, or just looking to have a fun check in with their buddies. It is pretty convenient for DC residents, and only took me about 20 minutes to drive out of the city to get to.
Prices:
Specials on Bears: I believe that there are many specials here based on the hour or time of the week. My friends and I were able to capitalize on a beer special--$20 gets you a bucket of 5 beers of your choice! Pretty solid deal, especially if you are meeting up as a group here.
Covid friendly, very clean: The environment seemed very hygienic. This restaurant seems to take social distancing seriously. Tables are set up pretty far from each other and everyone was maintaining a safe space. Folks were putting their masks on to go to the bathroom, or whatever they got up from their seats. I definitely felt safe eating here!
Multiple TV screens: It is almost impossible to be sitting in a position where you are not facing the screen, in this location. There were multiple games playing both inside and outside -- golf, women's and men's basketball, and soccer. This is definitely the place to be when there is a big game on.
Extremely attentive and helpful servers: the servers here were noticeably kind, and very respectful and attentive. They asked multiple times if the food was to her liking, refilled her water frequently, and checked in on us throughout the meal. They also made lots of jokes and we're just generally friendly and very nice. Definitely deserving of a nice tip!
Food: the food here was solid. All of the typical American dishes that you would expect, and then some. There was options for multiple types of sandwiches, chicken, hamburgers, fish. Pretty much any standard American food, you can find here. They were not a ton of vegetarian friendly options, but that's kind of par for the course in sports bars anyway. I was definitely able to find a few items that I could eat which was really exciting. One of my friends had a burger, and the other had a salad. They also shared an appetizer of calamari, which they really liked and said was seasoned perfectly! I also really enjoyed the free, and buttery, popcorn, which is presented for free as soon as you enter, and refilled constantly as you dine! A nice departure from the traditional bread or nacho chips-- I had never had popcorn presented like that for free!
Good energy: The Atmosphere at Open Road Grill was great! You can either sit at a large and low table in the general dining area, sit right up at the bar inside, or sit at an outside bar which is covered by a tent. There also are some available tables outside. There seems to be a really great community vibe present here. As games are playing patrons and staff would scream or clap and excitement for a big place and pat their friends on the back when the game was turning their way.
Cons:
The only con that I can think of would be the sweetness of the nacho plate that I ordered. Typically I prefer my nachos to be a little bit more spicy, however the salsa and sauce on my nachos was very sweet, almost sugary anyway. My friends tried it and really liked it, however I prefer a bit more of a hot dressing to nachos, so that would be my only drawback. This is more a matter of preference, I would say!
