Salt Cocktail Bar Opening in JBG Central Place Plaza in Rosslyn | Eater DC

"Perched above Salt, Open Road’s new Rosslyn outpost presents an Americana-themed, 80-seat grill intended as the more casual, daytime counterpart to the cocktail bar — a deliberate "night and day" difference. The space uses reclaimed wood and features an American flag mural, a suspended Harley-Davidson Fatboy motorcycle and paintings of Nationals slugger Ryan Zimmerman and Bruce Springsteen by local artist Jack Labadie. Weekday happy hour runs 4–7 p.m. with $5 draft beers, $7 house wines and $8 small plates; the room includes 10 TVs and is aimed at serving Rosslyn’s growing daytime crowd. Hours are 11 a.m.–11 p.m. on weekdays (midnight close Friday), Saturday 10 a.m.–midnight, and Sunday 10 a.m.–11 p.m." - Tierney Plumb

We visited the restaurant as a family. The service was good and fast — the staff were polite and attentive. However, when we asked for a recommendation for a child-friendly dish, they weren’t able to help. We ended up ordering the Braised Beef Penne, but it didn’t taste good, and our child didn’t want to eat it — he left hungry. It would be great to see more attention to kids’ options or clearer suggestions for families with children.

Average food. Delicious drinks. Great atmosphere. I had a burger and for some reason all places make them well done (even congratulations) and not medium.other than that food was decent, fries are more a hollow shells and not a full potato fry- if that makes sense? However the drink i had was absolutely delicious, ginger tea and whiskey, it was great. Atmosphere was relaxed and nice, service was great i really can’t complain another it. Overall average place not much character. P.S. My ratings are based on whether I believe I could make a better or healthier version at home. If food/drinks/service impress me, I'll be happy to come back. If not the stars reflect that.

Went for lunch with a buddy (he paid!). We were both really impressed. Server was on top of us, which was fine as we were chatting (been 36 years since we last saw each other), but the food was really good. I got a cheese steak. Usually very unimpressed, but theirs was good, used Grueyre cheese I think, made it unique. Nice fries also. Buddy got a burger which he liked as well. Manager told me they were related to Circo which I just went to in Tysons, very impressed. Solid place, good lunch spot. Inside was nice as well.

Google
Dining at Open Road - Rosslyn was an absolute pleasure! Here’s a breakdown of our experience: Food: Popcorn Starter: A fun and tasty surprise! The complimentary popcorn was a great way to kick off the meal. The Shrimp and Grits: Simply outstanding—easily among the best I’ve ever had. Every bite was packed with flavor! The Philly Cheesesteak with Fries were served piping hot, with the cheesesteak perfectly seasoned and the fries golden and crispy. Service: The staff were fantastic—attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Their excellent service made the experience even more enjoyable. Price: The prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality of both the food and service and the location. Great value overall!

While exploring the nearby area, we were looking for a restaurant to have lunch and stumbled upon this casual eatery. The interior decor was a wonderful representation of Americana, with a painting of Marilyn Monroe and others and a wall painted with an American flag, which provided a unique atmosphere while we dined. The service was attentive, and the food was delicious. We particularly enjoyed their burgers, and our overall experience was pleasant.

Google
Came for happy hour drinks and apps. The wings were good. Good beer selection. The happy hour deals are good. Overall, the vibe and drinks and menu make this a good place to go.

Google
Cool place in Rosslyn. Really recommended. Food, service and atmosphere. Exciting and varied menu with an ok price level. Brussels & Blue ($11) Tasty dish, with both sweet, crunchy and spicy elements. Large dish so suitable for sharing. Bacon Blue Burger ($16) One of the best burgers I've ever eaten! Incredibly juicy and good tasting! I'm not usually a big blue cheese fan, but this was absolutely fantastic. The fries were thin, well seasoned and nice and crunchy. Roadhouse chicken Wow what a salad. Doesn't get much better than this. Juicy and good chicken in a good and varied salad with a very good dressing. Could easily have ordered this again!

Google
The Jambalaya is incredible! I really like the seasoning used in the roux. The bacon brussels were also a hit with our party. This restaurant has an upscale and cozy atmosphere. The value you receive is well worth the price at Open Road.

Yelp
First, the people were super nice. Our server, Lindsay, was great. The food was also delicious. The Peruvian chicken was amazing as was the short rib. And the beers were good and cold.

Yelp
Solid American restaurant with a bunch of options that come in large portions + both table and bar seating Complimentary popcorn basket I came here for lunch with some friends and we all really enjoyed our meal, but our server was very strange. He also took an extremely long time to bring us our check

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times and don't expect to be going back. The food has always been mediocre at best. This most recent time, they added slow and inaccurate service to the mix. They took our drink order and then came back, saying they didn't have the ingredients for one of them. They took our food order and delivered some wrong items to our table. And the food, once we finally received what we ordered, didn't taste very good. Add to all that a 5-to-15-minute delay between each interaction, and you can understand my overall dissatisfaction. This could be a great restaurant, especially since it's in a great location. Too bad they don't live up to their potential.

Yelp
Me and my sister came here for dinner. Started off ok with a really nice hostess seating us and taking your appetizer order. We got the nachos that were sweet and spicy with the fresh jalapeños. I really liked them with the chicken added. After that, it was down hill. We never had a server come back for our order so we had to ask someone who our waiter was so they could take our order. I think they were short staffed but there wasn't any communication going on to make sure people were being taken care of. I ordered lemon pepper wings and a side of fries. I don't recommend. Fries came out warm and wings were over cooked with hardly any lemon pepper on them. If you want to get a nice beer, it's probably a good spot to try but otherwise, I personally would pass.

Yelp
Good American cuisine. Had the crispy chicken Cobb salad and really enjoyed it. My colleague had the shrimp poboy and it looked really good too. Good lunch spot

Yelp
I have been here a few times mostly with coworkers for the happy hour for a group meal. Good food and service each time I've visited. It's located right by the Rosslyn Metro station. There's indoor and outdoor seating available and plenty of bar seats if you walk in. It can get busy during happy hour so keep that in mind you are are visiting without a reservation.

Yelp
It's a solid, middle of the (open) road, experience. Free popcorn, plenty of seating, and decent service. The covered patio is excellent whether you're alone or with friends. I've dined with Open Road three times now and I feel comfortable saying it's solidly OK. The portions are fair, the prices are city prices, and the food is good. It's not knock-your-socks-off fantastic. The service could be a little more prompt (the water will be empty for a while). The experience is similar to that of a chain restaurant and that's why I'm a 3. Highlight from this past trip: bruschetta, bruschetta, bruschetta. Absolutely delicious. We ordered mac & cheese and bruschetta for the table and an assortment of burgers, fries, a poboy, and salad. Again, wouldn't discourage anyone from making a visit. There's something on the menu here for everyone.

John S.

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Service was friendly but a little slow even though it wasn't busy. Very nice atmosphere that would work for a family dinner, business dinner, or maybe even a dinner date.

Yelp
Attended with a 25+ group. Friends quoted below who participated. This was a group effort! 4/5 Service was very attentive and managed the large party extremely well. 3/5 Ambiance: generic urban 3/5 Food: Brussel sprouts w blue cheese: good combo of crunch of brussel sprouts and creamy blue cheese. 9/10 4/10 Calamari and peppers: very spicy. Over cooked 6/10 Braised short rib: very tender- but under seasoned. Mashed potatoes and fired onion ring were good. Desserts: over all "To die for" 7/10 Peanut butter pie "silky" "Subtle nuanced flavor" mousse texture. Not heavy 8/10 Bread pudding: surprisingly good. complex flavors. Not too soggy. 9/10 Vodka mojito- amazing. Super fresh. Smooth. Delicious but not too sweet.

Yelp
decided to try this place for lunch and was greeted with a unique touch--a welcome starter of popcorn. It was an interesting twist, though the water served wasn't up to the mark. For appetizers, we ordered the chicken bites, which turned out to be a highlight. The chicken was incredibly tender, with a perfectly balanced flavor that made it a delight to eat. For the main course, we went with the blackened salmon with spinach. The salmon was cooked to perfection, seasoned with just the right amount of spice to enhance its flavor. However, the spinach felt slightly underwhelming, as it seemed a bit too blanched for my taste. Overall, it was a good experience with a mix of hits and misses. A little improvement on the basics, like water quality, could elevate the experience further.

Yelp
Loved this place! Such a great date night spot. The aesthetic inside was really cool and they had the lights dimmed down enough to make it feel intimate which I loved. Their selection of beers and drinks were great with so much variety. Menu options looked amazing. Their burgers were amazing, the veggie burger was HANDS DOWN so good!!!! I'm really impressed. We even took leftovers to go and everything heated up so well the next day. Our waiter was very attentive and kind, he was the best. You get free popcorn at the beginning of your meal which was kinda funny but we loved it! Make sure you check out the speak easy they have downstairs! Very cool vibes if you want to go down for a drink after your meal or just see the cool atmosphere.

Yelp
I've reviewed Open Road before but I had to post again to shout out the braised short rib. Absolutely delicious!

Yelp
This is my second time here. The blackened salmon was fantastic. Broccolini was perfect. Very friendly staff, great crowd and people watching. Very convenient location and food has been consistently good. Highly recommend.

Yelp
They charged me $4 for soda water....what kind of place charges $4 for soda water....evidently this place....which I now know to avoid as I am an avid drinker of soda water vs. still....I noticed they did not charge the table for still water....yet.... $4 for SODA WATER????!!!!!! I will be sure to tell everyone one of my colleagues to avoid.

Yelp
Swung by after hearing from friends that the burgers here are very good! My friend and I got the Open Road classic burger and the French Onion burger and went halfsies -- the Open Road burger honestly wasn't very flavorful, which was surprising. The French Onion burger however, was flavorful and delicious! The fries on the side were also deliciously crispy and hot. The Jambalaya pasta could have used some more sauce since some of the pasta pieces were dry. Service was pretty friendly, though not as attentive as I thought it would be considering it was pretty empty at the time we swung by. Nonetheless, we had a good experience here and I'll likely be back!

Yelp
Amelia the manager was terrific. She made sure my tables were reserved for my party. Our bartender and waitress, Leila ? was great. Considering she was by herself, she handled our group of 15 well. Our server was ok. The nachos were always our favorite go to. Also for a healthier choice, the lettuce wraps were fresh and delicious. Everyone loved their drinks. Nice venue for gatherings and small party.

Yelp
Ambiance: (5/5) Great indoor and outdoor seating. Just know if you sit outside the pigeons will be waiting around for popcorn that falls on the floor. Price: (4/5) Price is reasonable for the area. Food: (4/5) I really enjoyed the jambalaya. I would really call it a jambalaya as it was as creamy and hearty as others I've had. This was more of a creamy pasta. It was good nonetheless, but I was expecting more spices. The fries were really crispy and the popcorn was a good thing to munch on alongside. I really enjoyed my mojito (mocktail). It wasn't overly sugary which I appreciated. Most mocktails and just sprite with more sugary syrup and this was definitely not that (in a good way). Service: (4/5) Service was good. They should have had more than one waiter on the patio as there was not one empty table.

Yelp
Went here to watch the NFL Conference Championship Games on Sunday. They brought complementary popcorn to the table which was super yummy. We ordered the strawberry mojitos which might have been one of the best mojitos I have ever had (not too much ice, not too sweet). We ordered the mac and cheese, the brussels, and some wings. The mac and cheese was simple but good because it wasn't too cheesy, the brussel sprouts were pretty good but a little heavy on the blue cheese, and the wings were surprisingly super good for not being a wing spot. The staff was super friendly and attentive and the vibes were good overall. The lighting was a bit dim (not super ideal for watching the game) but it made the setting a little more intimate.
google avatar

Vanessa A.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Quick Service, enjoyable ambiance and delicious food! Lots of TVs - just about every booth has access to a TV. My strawberry mojito had just the right amount of ice. The wings were perfectly cooked - juicy and not an overwhelming amount of sauce. Make sure to try the brussel sprouts! I generally don't like blue cheese but loved the blue cheese dressing on the brussel sprouts!

Yelp
Came here for the happy hours. Menus are a bit limited for the happy hour but the house wines were good. Food is about average. But I loved the ambiance. Really a perfect place for the quick gathering with your co-workers or friends before the dinner
google avatar

Yelp
Fun restaurant. We sat outside on a beautiful day which was great for a couple drinks after work and people watching. The waiter checked up on us a few times which was nice. My favorite items were the vodka mojito and Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta.

Yelp
I came here for brunch with a friend and loved it! Would definitely say it is one of the best brunches in Arlington. We came on a Saturday morning and it was pretty empty so we didn't need a reservation. It was raining outside so it might've been why. They gave us a free popcorn to start off. My friend and I split 2 dishes. The all American breakfast and the French toast were both amazing. They put corn flakes on the french toast which I've never tried before but thought it was a great idea. Both dishes were very filling! I would definitely come back here for brunch!

Matthew C.

Yelp
Service and team were amazing! Food was delicious and will def be back! Vibe was cool and loved it

Yelp
Great food choices and food was perfect! Love the modern decor :) Outdoor seating is covered which is nice.

Jim S.

Yelp
Good food with speakeasy in lower level. Service was above expectations. You will love it.
google avatar

Yelp
This food is good, im not a fan of seafood but i really like this food. Waitress are kind and sweet. I live near open road so every week i try new foods and they never disappoint. I love this place!
google avatar

Carrie B.

Yelp
Overall just a weird spot. Think of a Chili's on family vacation. The interior is loud and had absolutely no character. Service was rude - hostesses could care less about any questions, on top of that, their happy hour may attract a strange crowd or their bar over serves, as most of the patrons were absolutely slammed and falling off their chairs. Overall, management needs a re-think of this spot.

Sheri M.

Yelp
OH my gosh - my best burger in the world was this French onion burger .. the flavors made me not want to finish my meal. Our server was very attentive and provided suggestions for our meals . The bar tenders were spot on- and great drink choices / quality ! Thank you for a great evening !
google avatar

Yelp
I've frequented Open Road for so many work happy hours. The service is truly impeccable and is so accommodating. I've had different servers multiple times and I really commend them for being awesome servers even during the busiest times, juggling multiple tables inside and out. This time I came to dinner with my boyfriend. We ordered chicken wings to start. They were very good. Freshly hot!! I ordered a veggie burger with sweet potato fries. The veggie burger was one of the best veggie burgers I've had, with tons of fresh ingredients and different vegetarian-friendly incorporated ingredients like beets, hummus, avocado. The veggie burger was held very intact, an indication of a veggie burger done well. My boyfriend enjoyed a blackened chicken salad which was very yum too. The happy hour specials are so worth it for the drinks!!! (and the small bites) This is a great local place that really uphold a good customer experience.
google avatar

Albani C.

Yelp
The starting popcorn is a nice touch. The food overall is okay. Except the French fries - those are great! The sweet apricot wings are good as well. Service: It was solid but something about it felt "off". Maybe because when I asked for my order to be corrected, the manager came over a bit awkwardly to make sure things were ok (when the server already had it handled) but he meant well. Or maybe because my server, Evelyn, kept calling me "girl". But other than that, she was friendly and helpful. Quick tips: Parking is a hassle. The bathrooms are clean. It's crowded after 5pm on weekdays but only because of its proximity to professional building.
google avatar

Logan P.

Yelp
The service was good and I would recommend getting any of the burgers. The fries were light and enjoyable. I got the French onion burger and loved it.
google avatar

Yelp
*LARGE GROUP RESERVATION/PATIO SECTION REVIEW* TL;DR: delicious food with great service Came here for a work event, and part of the bar and patio area was reserved for us. Our server was great! He went around and were able to take everyone's order and the runners would call out and bring it to the group to eat at their leisure. FOOD: ~Brussel Sprouts (4/5): I got it with the blue cheese sauce and crumbles on the side. These were so yummy! Wish they were cooked a little bit more throughout, the but flavor was good. Bacon was a nice touch, but got a little greasy ~Calamari (4/5): basic calamari, but nicely fried and comes with some veggies as well. Sauces were delicious ~French Onion Burger (4/5): SO GOOD. I'm a sucker for caramelized onions and Gruyere cheese. Can get a little heavy when eating the whole burger. Maybe I'll ask for a pickle or something to cut the richness next time. ~Steak Frites (4/5): Steak was cooked to perfection, and was nice, tender, and flavorful ~Garlic Truffle (?) Fries (5/5): Came with the Steak Frites. Could not stop eating them! Had tons of fresh chopped garlic on top. Loved the vibes here, as well! Will definitely come back and make a reservation, since it looked to get very busy!

Yelp
Doing business in Rosslyn, host company provided lunch for the meeting participants. They chose Open Road Rosslyn. Easy ordering online. Menu seems smallish but good selection. I chose a grilled salmon salad. Food comes in a substantial plastic to-go package so the food is not spilling out on to the table. Delicious salad, perfectly cooked salmon, good dressing, plus a lovely balsamic glaze on the salmon. Really enjoyed it! I would definitely return!

T. B.

Yelp
The food, service and ambience are OUTSTANDING!! We were visiting from out of town and had to visit a few times because the food is THAT good. And, the popcorn...addictive. Everything we tried in the menu was exceptional. Well worth getting off the metro. To top it off, service was second to none. Thank you to every staff member that checked in on us.

Yelp
Stopped here after an airport pick up on the way to Arlington. SO glad we did. The restaurant was clean, music was nice, server was super sweet and the food pleased everyone in our party. My favorite was the Cobb lettuce wraps! A nice kick off to a family vacation!! Thank you Yelp!
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
Food is truly amazing, the French onion burger is so good and I got a picture this time but the service is not great. We are 0/2 on good service, the manager did come around which was nice but our waitress only greeted us and brought the check, we didn't get water refills, didn't ask if we needed anything or check on us after the food but would still come back just for this burger
google avatar

Cara I.

Yelp
I was on a road trip and stopped in Rosslyn to visit a friend who moved here recently. We found Open Road and Yelp and decided to try it out. I'm so glad we did! We all ordered a burger, I had the veggie burger. I could not believe how many toppings came on it! Hummus, sunflower seeds, beets, just to name a few. It was definitely not a frozen Beyond burger thrown on the menu just to have an option. I was so impressed! The sweet potato fries were excellent as well. My friends were blown away with their meals and now have a new go to spot!
google avatar

Kaitlin G.

Yelp
Stopped by Open Road on a Sunday evening for some dinner. Had a lovely time!! Our waitress was so attentive and provided excellent recommendations for my drink. I ordered a basil and blue which was very refreshing!!! I also love that they give you popcorn to snack on before your meal, it was deliciously salted and wonderful. For my meal I got the open road burger which comes with an onion ring on it! The scallion aioli was so good and my burger was cooked to my liking. The fries were fantastic too! I would definitely recommend ordering a burger when you come here!!! They do burgers very well! This is one of my favorite spots in Rosslyn and I will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Pretty solid American food in the heart of Rosslyn. We sat outside for dinner on a chilly day, and immediately opted for cocktails to warm up. We ordered the Basil & Blue (gin, blueberry, ginger, lemon, basil), and the Life is Bueno (basically an orange margarita). These were pretty much what I expected them to be, and good drinks to sip with dinner. Both were fairly strong. For food, we ordered the Bacon Blue burger with fries and the loaded grilled cheese with broccolini. The burger was suuuper good; I'm always a sucker for blue cheese sauce on my burgers. They also knocked the grilled cheese out of the park: artfully crafted with avocado, bacon, tomato, cheddar, and scallion aioli. The sides, however, were just okay. The broccolini was a little too charred but did have a great (lemony?) dressing on it and the fries tasted strikingly similar to Burger King fries (to be clear, I really like Burger King fries so this was fine for me, but worth noting) Service was great, and food arrived to the table quickly after ordering. Excited to come back to try the cocktail bar, Salt, downstairs!
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
I loved Open Road in Merrifield since first visiting in 2014, so I was thrilled to learn about the Rosslyn location since moving back to Arlington. The vibe is squarely all American and there are screens to catch the game. The food is consistently reliable: bar food with some fresh inventive twists and the burgers are especially solid. Favorite part though may be the popcorn the server brings after you sit! Open Road is one of our go-to's for an easy Friday night or mid week dinner out.

Yelp
My team and I came here for a coworker's going away lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Expectedly, it was pretty packed since it's one of the few full service places around here (and it was closest to our office). There was no tables available inside so we got seated out on the patio. Our table was a big fan of the popcorn. I wish we were able to get one more bowl of it because somehow I missed out. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. My teammates got the Fried Chicken Sandwich, the French Dip, Blackened Shrimp Tacos, and the Grilled Salmon. Food came out pretty quickly despite the place being swamped. Grilled Chicken Sandwich was really good. The combination of goat cheese, peppers, and some dressed arugula with the grilled chicken and buttered crispy bread really filled me up. The fries that came with were also nice and crispy. Everyone else seemed to like their meals, the Fried Chicken and French Dip looked the best. Pretty decent for a team outing meal. I would consider coming back on a date or something. Definitely would come back to try happy hour or Salt downstairs.

Yelp
We recently visited this spot for a brunch after doing an Escape room in Georgetown for my birthday. It's right next to the Rosslyn Metro which was super convenient for us to jump on after we ate. We ordered the Shrimp Po Boy, Fried chicken sandwich, open road burger and four cheese Mac. Everything was delicious. The servers were really friendly too. We ordered the bread pudding for dessert and it was phenomenal. We will absolutely eat here again when we're in the area.

Yelp
I stay at Central Place Apts next door to this spot when I travel to the area. I've been here a handful of times and most recently stopped in with a friend for a Sunday bite and drink. The place is chill, when appropriate the outside patio has a good vibe. The service is always consistent and at the bar Danny and David are two of my favs. The food is par on some and way above par on others. I would say the burgers are some of my fav and they have a good brunch menu. It's a good spot to stop for a drink or bring a group for a full sit down meal. It's across from the Metro so it's easy to get to.
google avatar

Remi W.

Yelp
This place was decent. I had the chicken sandwich with fries and it was good. I would probably try something else in the area next time, but if a group of friends wanted to come here I would not argue against it. Decent food, you won't be upset about it, but you'll forget about this place in 2 days time.
google avatar

Megan P.

Yelp
We absolutely loved our meal! My husband and I weren't overly hungry so we wanted to share an appetizer & entree. When browsing the photos on Yelp, their salads kept drawing me in. I love the addition of blue cheese, cucumber + grilled corn to the cob salad ... super delicious! They should definitely consider adding the short rib sliders to the menu permanently ... absolutely drool worthy! It's a small place, but service and ambiance was great.
google avatar

Andy A.

Yelp
The place has a nice cozy vibe with dimmed lights. Service was great. Food was savory.

Yelp
Loved this spot. I travel a Lot for work, so I never know if the reviews will match my experience. In this case, the experience surpassed the reviews on Yelp and Google. Service, food, and atmosphere were just what I needed at the end of a work day

Yelp
- Just your average bar - One particular thing I liked was they serve every table popcorn to start - The Mac and cheese was ok and the French dip was average - They have lot of TVs around to watch games
