"Perched above an art gallery and an antique store, Òran Mór is quintessential Nantucket with its homey, subtly nautical decor. The intimate round bar looks like something out of a captain’s cabin, embellished with maritime quotes and illustrations. It may not look like a spot for trendy drinks, but the menu is creative and modern with a perfect mix of spirit-forward cocktails and more tropical, refreshing libations. Òran Mór is requesting that customers are fully vaccinated. Reserve here." - Katie Faust Stryjewski, Eater Staff

If you're looking to experience a traditional New England-style restaurant, this spot in Nantucket is a must-visit. Set in a historic house, it enhances the dining experience by complementing the local cuisine with a charming atmosphere. The menu prioritizes local ingredients, which is a nice touch. We tried the fried oysters, black bass, and buffalo meat. Each dish was decent, prepared in a way that didn't overpower the natural flavors, allowing us to appreciate the freshness of the fish and the richness of the meat. However, the seasoning was quite conservative, leaving the dishes somewhat memorable but not particularly standout. Expect to pay a bit more due to its touristy location, but it's reasonable given the setting and ingredient sourcing. The cocktails were quite enjoyable, not too strong but well mixed. Overall, while the food was good, a little more boldness in flavor could make it unforgettable.

Honestly the pics should speak for themselves - 10/10! Food was amazing, and so was the service! Cannot wait to come back here again! We started with espresso martinis, followed by an app which was some type of tomato dish, then the truffle pasta and duck. For dessert we had the chocolate donut thing. YUM!!!!

Google
I think it's 4 stars. My partner thinks it's 5 so compromising to a 5. Overall, I think this place has great ideas but the execution is slightly lacking. The happy fizzy drink didn't taste of cardamom. It was also very alcohol forward. Roast oysters flavor was very good but a bit on the light side. When eaten with the milk bread it comes with (which was a bit undercooked) the bread overpowers(!) The flavor of the sauce Tomato salad was great. Fresh and refreshing. I would recommend that Fish tagine was a bit on the bland side. With the couscous, which was salted well, it works. Highly recommend the lobster pasta. Very flavorful. Tasty lobsters. It's mild and complex

Google
Beautiful restaurant—we loved sitting in the middle room with only four tables. All three people in our party loved our dishes and drinks. We’re still talking about the food two days later! The service was great. We’ll certainly come back and would highly recommend.

Went here the other night and better than ever!! Ate at the bar which is a small cozy semicircle. The bartender had bottled cocktails he had made in accordance with the season-I had the Milestone Mule-delicious! Had the oysters bourguignon ..was a little hesitant about getting roasted oysters but they were in the best garlic sauce I’ve ever had and outstanding! For the meal had the truffle pasta which was out of this world! My husband got the octopus and pork belly and loved it. For dessert the Tally me Bannana was great..banana with chocolate and peanut butter flavors. Service was attentive and atmosphere very relaxing!

This was one of the best meals I had in a long time. Great quaint place, great service. The kale Caesar salad was out of this world, and I typically don't like kale. The halibut was excellent. And the chocolate dessert, a perfect 10.

This restaurant is the promise of summer. Go! Wine list is wonderfully original and super drinkable. The advice is personal without pretense. BTW the food including this delicious imberico is over the top good. Fresh and delicious. Did I say go?!

Google
So I’d heard of the reputation and was looking forward to enjoying our meal together as a group of 6. To be very honest I was pretty disappointed with the food, especially with the cost of the check. I will say the service was excellent, and our server was top notch. I also enjoyed the wine. The food for me was subpar. They were doing a prix fixe for Stroll and I had clams with spaghetti as an appetizer. While the clams and sauce were very good, the pasta was meh. My venison entree was ok and my wife (a real dessert person) didn’t even finish her apple dessert (unheard of!!). We had a great night because we enjoyed each other’s company, but as for the food I felt it didn’t live up to what we were paying for. Sorry, I wanted to love it but have to be honest.

Yelp
Very special place with incredible food, wines & service. Gem on Nantucket! M

Yelp
I thought this was going to be the most spectacular meal of the week. Thought this place was top notch and would be romantic etc. Made our reservation as soon as possible 30 days before the date. My only request was a nice table for two for a special occasion. They stuck us directly in the middle of a loud obnoxious table of 8-10ppl. I gave it a try, but we couldn't even talk to one another. Kindly got up and asked to have our table moved before we ordered. Finally, a table freed up, no problem as we are patient. They sat next us next to an even more obnoxious person annoying the table next him, but he was directly facing us. Kept shouting "Do you want to hear why he is better, we'll do you? He got louder and louder as he repeated it three times b/c the ladies he was directing the question to were ignoring him. I asked him to let it go already, and he reluctantly shut up. As they "re-set" our table the staff would say "here's your silverware-again"."here's your menu -again" once to me and then to my husband with each item. Here's your...again! Give it a rest people. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Losing our appetite by now...ordered beet salad and FENNEL ORECCHIETTE RAPINI, GARLIC, WALNUT & SUNDRIED TOMATO RED PESTO, CANDIED FENNEL SEED & PINENUT, SWEETY DROP PEPPERS. Well something "broke" in this oily mess! I picked out and ate the little peppers and some fennel the rest was trash. Excellent wine and beet salad was good and nothing special. Though and one person on staff was kind, bright and cheery. Blonde hair and a pretty blue turquoise necklace. Let's hope CRU hit's it out of the ballpark tomorrow night!

Yelp
One of the best restaurants on Nantucket Island for dinner. The restaurant is dark and cozy that makes you wanna drink some delicious wine while enjoying all their pastas. My go to is always their truffled bucatini with a Parmesan foam, it's delightful. Beat salad is always fresh and never mushy, has beautiful texture and bright flavors. Service is always great and attentive. You can never go wrong with oran mor!

Corynn B.

Yelp
We had a phenomenal experience here during a friend's bachelorette party. We were seated in their private space on the top floor and our service was amazing. We pre-ordered appetizers and all of our food came out so quickly. We all agreed that the kale Caesar salad was the absolutely best Caesar salad any of us have ever had. I could've eaten just that all night long. I got the fennel pasta and it was wonderful. I was so full from the appetizers that I couldn't even finish it but it was so delicious, and I can't remember what the peppers were called - I had never had that kind of pepper before and they were amazing! They were small, kind of like a grape tomato and were little bursts of flavor. Yummy! The rooftop spritz was an aperol spritz and was delicious. Exactly what I wanted on a warm summer day. Thank you for an incredible experience!

Linda D.

Yelp
Very lively. Waitress is very friendly, recommended daily special of raclette. It was a good recommendation. The bison is tender, chicken is tasty. A bit loud inside but conversation can flow nicely.

Helena G.

Yelp
Outstanding...delicious food served in a cozy atmosphere. We go every summer! Highly recommend!

Yelp
A must try on Nantucket - absolutely amazing food and service - starting with a charming hostess - friendly servers and incredible cuisine Owner walks and assists with service and flow!!

Joan S.

Yelp
Wonderful, unique restaurant. I have not dined there but the drinks are great and fun. Upscale decor. Am planning to go back.

Thomas S.

Yelp
Tight quarters. Loud bar. Mistake on our bill adding for dish that was included on our fixed price menu. No apology. Food was tasty, service decent.

John A.

Yelp
The place has a nice, laid back atmosphere. We appreciated that the servers were attentive and took time to explain the menu. That all helped because the food was a bit bland.

Mario B.

Yelp
Incredible atmosphere, drinks were superb, and food was fantastic. What more could you want?

Erin J.

Yelp
This restaurant in a historical house was a very pleasant experience. Service was excellent, polite and prompt. The food stood out on every dish. Summer flavors are captured completely in the peas and wildflower salad. I also had the Moroccan fish tagine. It was perfectly seasoned, the fish extremely tender. Well worth the trip to town for this elegant and tasteful restaurant.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Great dining experience overall. Faith was our waitress and she was so kind, friendly, warm and welcoming. We had the honey roasted beet special and the raclette special with fingerling potatoes and broccolini- both were awesome. The kale ceasar and truffle bucatini were also amazing. Had some great sancerre, and the noise level/ambiance were perfect. If anything, it was a little chilly in there so I wish I had a sweater, but wasn't unbearable.

Fiona C.

Yelp
Oran Mor is my favorite restaurant on the Island! Lovely ambient space, great cocktails...yummy food...happy camper!

Lois H.

Yelp
I've been here a few times over the years and really liked it. I had a pasta dish recently that I wasn't impressed with. Some of the offerings, including the pasta dish, just didn't have much flavor. There were too many ingredients. Also, some things were way too hot, as if they'd been microwaved or something.

Soumendra B.

Yelp
Amazing food! Really loved the place, extremely flavorful food that is still New England traditional fare!!! Highly recommend!

Katie G.

Yelp
We had the most amazing meal at Oran Mor. Every single bite and sip was delicious! We will definitely return

RJ B.

Yelp
We dined in August at this restaurant. We are on the Island every summer and we had not been back in a number of years. We were excited to return. The restaurant accommodated our request for our "regular" table by a window overlooking the harbor, so everything started off well. However, they then seated a family of four with two small children next to us. The ambience went from elegant and romantic to chaotic and daycare center within minutes. The kids started squirming, screaming, and throwing silverware on the floor. The dad managed to sweep a wine glass of the table which shattered next to my wife's feet, which were exposed because she was wearing sandals. To make matters worse, the parents began consuming copious amounts of alchohol, and they were soon plastered. At one point, the dad looked up at us and said, "I hope you have kids." We looked back at him and almost replied -- we do, and of course we we did not bring them. I know these things happen. But for a very expensive fine dining restaurant in a fancy resort , it would have made sense either to advise the parents not to bring little children or to seat the family in an area of the restaurant where they would not create such a huge disruption for us and others nearby. What made matters worse was that the staff of the restaurant did literally nothing. No one acknowledged the problem or offered to re-seat us. When I requested they provide a different table, they told us it would be a half hour wait while another party finished up. At no point did they offer us seats at the bar, or a complimentary cocktail, or dessert. It was just about the most tone-deaf thing I've ever seen in what should have been a high-end establishment. it's hard to imagine any restaurant on Island behaving in this way. Given the abundance of truly outstanding places in Nantucket, it will not be much of a sacrifice never going back to Oran Mor, we never will. It was totally graceless. (Two stars for the fact that this restaurant is a lovely venue and the food is at least good, though not great, relative to other options on island.)

Ron K.

Yelp
Out of all the fabulous restaurants on Nantucket, this one was the most disappointing. The decor and service were outstanding, but the cuisine and presentation were lacking. Several other friends told us the same things about this place after our meal. As regulars to the island, we'll certainly skip Oran Mor next time.

Krystle D.

Yelp
This was my best dinner while staying in Nantucket! The Union Street Inn where we were staying recommended it and I am so glad they did! Our server was amazing! She gave great recommendations! We started with the roasted oysters, then had the special of duck confit and beet stained radiatori. For dessert we had the banana talley, which was amazing! Definitely make a reservation for dinner here if you are visiting Nantucket!

Sheri W.

Yelp
This was supposed to be our "romantic" dinner on the island. I had seen it featured somewhere as having both amazing food and atmosphere, and it DID fit the bill as far as the decor went. It was absolutely charming. However, the noise level completely ruined this for us before we even took a bite of food. I'm not sure I can adequately describe the noise level. It surpassed the loudest sports bar I've ever been to. One guy in particular had such a loud, booming, piercing voice that he sounded like he was on a megaphone. Combined with the rest of the raucous crowd, we literally put our hands over our ears at times. Maybe we should have asked for another table as it was truly insane, but we toughed it out. As for food, I had also chosen this restaurant for the duck on the regular menu. My partner loves duck. As it turned out, there was also a duck confit special on the menu that night which my partner chose, but it was pretty dreadful. How do you take a fatty meat cooked in fat and make it dry? The skin was tough and chewy instead of crispy, and the wild rice side dish was unpleasantly crunchy. Another disappointment was the banana cake dessert which was dry and chewy even with the chocolate peanut butter sauce. For dinner, I had the Lobster Gemelli which was a little light on lobster but otherwise very good. Along with a great Cabernet wine and exceptional rolls in the bread service, it was enough to pull this place up to 3, but I couldn't really recommend and wouldn't return in future.

Amanda H.

Yelp
Presentation was very good. The staff was very helpful. The truffle bucatini is a must try. It deserves a star just for that. All around a lovely stop on a stroll through downtown Nantucket.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Lovely restaurant with excellent food and interesting, well-balanced cocktails. Service is polished but friendly. The atmosphere can be a little loud around the bar area (not in a bad way, in a vibrant/fun way, but nevertheless it can be hard to hear conversations at your table) but is pretty quiet elsewhere -- one advantage of the restaurant's historic-house layout! I think this is the best restaurant on Nantucket. Certainly it should be in anyone's top three. The truffle bucatini is especially good and is one of my favorites, but honestly there's not a bad dish on the menu.

Annelise B.

Yelp
Lovely staff and beautifully decorated. This lobster pasta was delicious and I would definitely get it again!

Christopher C.

Yelp
Always an amazing dining experience. Can't wait to go again. Food is memorable in the best way. A very cool vibe from start to finish.

Yelp
Excellent in every way! Service of Percy and Gabriel and the sommelier were outstanding and very professional without pretense. The food amazing!! Each dish truly well done and thoughtful! Beautiful and taste above excellence! Highly recommend!

David P.

Yelp
Ambiance and service was great, Food was not what I've come to expect from Oran Mor. But with great company and the atmosphere the experience is always worthwhile.

Georgiy P.

Yelp
The food was wonderful . The service was great , though I suspect it would be better if I showed up in quantity more than 1 . The ambience was pleasant .

Kelsey B.

Yelp
We had such a wonderful dinner at Oran Mor that we immediately made a reservation for the following night as well. So happy this this is one of the handful of restaurants currently open in November on Nantucket. I highly recommend getting a table in the charming upstairs. The cozy fireplace, nautical artwork, and warm lighting makes for the most beautiful ambiance. The staff (India and Gabriella in particular) was wonderful and made great recommendations for both food and wine. Some items not to be missed: - Pain Killer cocktail - Roasted Oysters - Lobster Gemelli - Duck Bolognese - Duck Breast - Black Truffle Bucanti - Bison The only item we didn't love was the lobster bisque. Everything else was outstanding.

Dallin H.

Yelp
Amazing food. Great value. Atmosphere was awesome. Dining team gave a great experience

Katie S.

Yelp
Food service and cozy atmosphere all terrific -best Berkshire pork chop In New England. Nice wine list with reasonable choices for a simple dinner choice .

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday evening after a long bike ride, so we definitely worked up an appetite. The restaurant was very cool feeling. When we walked in there was a gallery seating downstairs, up front. It felt like we were sitting in my mom's kitchen in the 90s. It was a very strange setup--the hostess explained that the owners originally expanded that space to be a gallery (with actual art) dining experience, but was on hold due to COVID. Makes sense...nonetheless, I wasn't a fan of the bright white room and glass front window. We were quickly moved upstairs where it was a little darker and cozier. We ordered the lobster pasta, oysters, kale Caesar, and house bread basket. All were good, nothing that stood out to me or WOWed me. The dessert was my fave. We got the Elvis and the madeleines--I could have eaten 50 of those little things! The stars are for the service, as it was impeccable. Great staff and very friendly. I will definitely be back due to the ambiance and great service.

David A.

Yelp
Visit Oran mor every summer. Great ambiance. I had the chicken dish last visit. Recommendation would be more trending signature cocktails.

Kristyn M.

Yelp
If you're visiting Nantucket definitely try to get a reservation here! The food and ambience are top notch. The service is exceptional. We had the oysters, octopus and pork belly and kale Caesar to start. For entrees I would definitely not pass on the pasta, which you can also get in half portions (amazing). We had the lobster gemelli, truffle bucatini, halibut and the smoked chicken. All were phenomenal!

Pam C.

Yelp
Food, service and decor were first class Great seafood and salads Appetizers and wine were fine Desert and coffee were great Missing views of ocean

Richard F.

Yelp
Amazing food and staff. We had the lobster gemelli and the fish tagine. Both were prepared perfectly! Highly recommend

Erin R.

Yelp
Excellent service and food. Would definitely recommend. Great atmosphere. Get the pasta.

Arianne L.

Yelp
Ok We had a reservation and opted to sit at the bar. I have not been here in a few years and have to say Nickolas the bartender is a huge plus as well as Sam the som! The food is beautifully presented and delicious. What an amazing chef! This place is a Gem!

Adam M.

Yelp
It is, by far, the most incredible restaurant on island! Novel flavors, flawless execution, and great service...this place has it all!

Adam S.

Yelp
Quaint, homey, interior but unremarkable food. I rarely bash a fine eating establishment but this place did not impress me, while every other meal on Nantucket already has. I ordered duck confit which was the evening special. Duck is a fatty bird and confit preparation literally stews it in duck fat, but it was surprisingly un-moist and not particularly flavorful in any way. It had been re-cooked to crispen the skin to the point where the skin had gotten hard, dry and bitter. There was a smear of a tangy sweet glaze around the perimeter of the plate but really nothing on the bird. Any additions to the duck were lost among the sides. Consistency was like well-drianed, water pack tuna, I will not call it dry. It was served with wild rice and a pickled sour slaw with pomegranate seeds. The sides were better than the bird but really not very special in any way. It had a large garnish to hide the small duck leg of which I only ate half. Bread service included small soft Hawaiian style rolls and overly-salty French bread.... or was it the butter that was over-salted? I'm not sure, and I really love salt. My partner had a lobster pasta dish which was rich in flavorful but did not make one think that it featured lobster as the primary ingredient. It didn't look like it, and it didn't taste like it. We had a chocolate peanut butter sweet confection over a banana cake. The cake was somewhat tough, dry and the nut sprinkles were burnt and bitter. Service was friendly and polite but a bit inattentive at the end where we made a point of placing the credit card on the table, mentioned it was there because we were ready to leave. This place is LOUD, truly unnervingly loud, sports-bar level shouting to the point you want to cover your ears, get your check ASAP and bolt. We go to bars , lounges, concerts etc. so I'm not shy to noise. I really wish I had kind of words because my girlfriend had gone to lengths to select a romantic place that featured duck. This isn't it. We probably won't come back.

Spencer E.

Yelp
Totally overrated - they starred off with two pieces if bread which was a total joke. Besides the apps and the wine I had the boar for $49. The boar was ridiculous- one small , 1.5 in short ribs and a few medallions . Go to Nautilus or Sisters.

Sam L.

Yelp
Great restaurant in Nantucket! Very cool atmosphere - although be warned that the restaurant is on the second floor and access only seems to be via stairs. Food was great overall - oysters were prepared in a unique way that my girlfriend and I never had before, she wasn't a fan but I didn't mind them. In addition, the drinks were very inconsistent - some with more booze and some with much less. Our entrees though were spectacular. Great place to come to overall if looking for options.

Judith W.

Yelp
Excellent in most every way. Charming, quiet setting, creative food and good service.

Scott L.

Yelp
My wife and I can't believe this year was the first time we dined at Oran Mor after coming to the island for 20 years. Our meal was terrific. They have a specialty margarita where the "heat lives in the ice" due to Fresno chilis. The duck melted in your mouth and the bison au Poivre was cooked perfectly. Our waiter, Nicholas, was very helpful in guiding us through the wine list and menu. The horseshoe bar inside is a great place to grab a drink. They have also outdoor seating when the weather cooperates.

Andrew P.

Yelp
Really awesome place. I'd put it in my top three restaurants on the island. Great service, and good food.

Meg C.

Yelp
Amazing every time. Kale Cesar is a must!!! Portions are on the smaller side so apps would be a recommendation.
