Where to Find Fish and Seafood in Houston | Eater Houston

"The Smith family behind Orange Lee’s PoBoys & Wings arrived in 2019, and like most New Orleans natives, leaned into the homestyle, albeit technique- and flavor-driven cooking that’s made the city so revered for its underwater offerings. The beauty of this stop is in the simplicity of its po’ boys. The bread’s impossibly soft interior is supported by a slightly crisp exterior. Crawfish and shrimp, two of the most popular po’ boys fillings, are fresh and generously seasoned. Explore other seafood options, too, such as cheesy shrimp nachos, baked potatoes loaded with crawfish and shrimp, and the glossy and comforting shrimp fried rice." - Kayla Stewart

This place is really overhyped and expensive. The food really wasn’t that good especially for the price it’s at. I got the wings the shrimp fried rice, which was the worst. My husband got the seafood platter. He said the catfish was flavorless.(He loves catfish btw) The hush puppies had more flavor. He didn’t really finish his food, only ate the fries out of the platter. we got the Philly cheesesteak eggrolls, which was probably the best thing out of everything. It looks good, but looks are deceiving, This is our first time and we will not be back. UPDATE: We end up throwing the food away😢 and both felt really nauseous.🤢 To respond to the owner the only thing eaten was fries and hush puppies as was stated. This isn’t an attempt to defame, just customers leaving their Honest review because we chose to spend with your business happily. I could have said more but chose to say less. The food was very disappointing to be your best sellers for 4 years. Super upsetting to waste hard working money to still be hungry afterwards… wishing this business its continued success.

I tried the Cajun lemon pepper wings 7/10, had great flavor, but for me they tasted more like a homemade buffalo sauce, I also prefer dry over wet. Presentation was great though! Philly egg rolls was fire 10/10, crawfish egg rolls 8/10, Daiquiri was 10/10. We live around the corner so we’ll keep returning until we try the entire menu. We tried them on Halloween for the first time, they were handing out candy and the staff was friendly. It was busy and we waited at least 30 minutes. Catfish next time.

I literally saw one of my friends post a photo of the food that she got from this restaurant and I immediately knew I had to have it. Very big back of me, I know, however it’s so rare that food photos that extremely well. So my daughter and I went and believe me when I tell you the food in person it looks just like it does in the photos and tastes even better.

Google
I got order of the loaded seafood fries. It came with crawfish and shrimp. The seasoning was excellent not too much not too list. I will give that specific order a nine out of 10. Keep up the good work guys!!!

My husband and I was looking a good new different food for place for today. Let me tell you! When we first walked in we were greeted and welcomed with love. The owner is very hands on and kept the restaurant lively. I had the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls and rice. The rice was so flavorful and exactly what I been looking for. Best egg rolls hands down! My husband got the pasta & wings and said it was delicious. He ate it up & down! We met some New Orleans Natives along side the owner and they brought the good food and best hospitality to Dallas. The koolaid was good and not too much sugar which I love and I can’t forget the praline candy, Chef Kiss! We definitely will be back. Also, very reasonable priced which I appreciate. Thank you & your team! Pat yourselves on the back 2 times!

Babyyyyyyy it’s over WITH them rides from FORNEY to ARLINGTON for an authentic taste of HOME. I returned to ORANGE LEE’s to pick up a phone order on a Sunday afternoon , and please believe , this place did not disappoint! I am glad I followed my first mind because the crowd was there but pleasantly welcoming. I ordered a Hot Sausage PoBoy COMBO with a lil lagniappe for afterwards (BREAD PUDDING). The flavors were on point, everything came out hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned even the daiquiri sample was totally enjoyable. Blended well. Beautifully crafted, balanced, and strong enough to let you know dont play with em’…. What really made the visit stand out was the staff. People from the city are genuinely hospitable. Everyone I interacted with was welcoming, professional, and genuinely seemed happy to be there. That level of hospitality is rare these days and truly elevated the whole experience. If you’re looking for a good chew, vibe and great food, and top-tier service Orange Lee’s should be on your list! Will definitely be back. I gotta see if their Puh-KAWN candy better than mine.

Google
First time customer tonight took my food to go.Ordered the seafood nachos . I’ve DEFINITELY had better. Was very disappointed in the quality of this item. By the time I got home they were over with and mad soggy and hard. And for $20-$22 ? No ma’am. The cheese was definitely giving can cheese I’ll start there. It gave SNACK candy lady taste. Will definitely never order this again. But I’ll go back to try other items. The catfish bites and fries I ordered for my toddler were def seasoned well however my meal was terrible I’m disappointed I wasted my money on that I’ll try the gumbo and yakamein next time and give my update review UPDATE: I went back to try these guys out on more options I ordered the seafood gumbo and a nice daiquiri BANANA flavored. The daiquiri was amazing it wasn’t too strong in taste I didn’t finish it but I wish I could have taken it to go. It was the best daiquiri I’ve probably had at a shop. The owner expressed he wasn’t a fan of that particular flavor but they definitely did the works on that flavor not sure what he meant. The gumbo was decent it was restaurant standard didn’t have a homemade in house taste but I know why. Overall these are good people and the service and their auras in general will keep you coming back to try anything on their menu

Love the atmosphere and the vibe. The owner spoke to everyone ..made me feel welcomed and appreciated for coming through.I ordered the shrimp and crawfish loaded fries, OMGEEE🔥🔥🔥🔥 It was wonderful and I had plenty to share even though I didnt want to😜Dont judge me...judge your moma nem'!🤣 I will definitely be back. Oh and I had a Swamp Water Daiquiri...lets just say its not for the weak. I definitely recommend‼️

Yelp
Food is a 10 as usual. Service is always great because when you walk in, you're treated like family. The wife is always hard at work tearing down that kitchen, and her husband is cool behind the counter. It's a family atmosphere so the vibe is always chill. Plus the smooth R&B mix makes you feel like you're at your auntie's crib waiting on the next plate! I come here when I don't feel like cooking at home because I'm never disappointed. And I won't lie, since my favorite holiday is Mardi Gras, the decor makes me happy even when I've been chasing 7 graders all day! I hope they stay in the area (even though they are already blowing up with celebs)!

Yelp
So I went here from instagram. And here is what we tried Chicken fried rice was pretty good. It's kind of similar to the Louisiana fried rice. It was tasty. Cheesesteak eggs rolls were very small in size. I've never had one that small it was the size of a taquito. Greens meaty and good to balance out the greasy food. lol. Cajun lemon pepper wings were good. Like a spicy dry buffalo. Customer service was amazing. Food came out really fast. I would go back if close by.
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
had to try this place since i've seen it all over social media the wings were amazing, definitely get those the pasta was good but not the best i've ever had would def go back but im moving back into town so probably won't
google avatar

Slimm B.

Yelp
I wish I could give 10 stars!!! Best customer service I had in a minute baby. The food is top tier and just reminded me of home. I had Cajun lemon pepper wings, shrimp fried rice with two pecan candy and the punch. I will be back very soon, plus I called everybody that live here from the city to let them know about this place. We always looking for a little taste of home
google avatar

Shivalerie D.

Yelp
My first visit here. It was decorated nicely with a strong New Orleans vibe. I got the chicken wing combo which came with 5 wing pieces & 2 sides. I got sweet heat wings & double collard greens. My total was 21.65 which was a little pricey. However I wanted to support this small business. It wasn't busy so the service was fast. The greens were good & seasoned very well, but the chicken wings were so good! I like my wings fried hard & these were fried just way I like them. They weren't spicy but had a slightly sweet sauce that I liked. I'll will definitely go back & try other menu options.
google avatar

Ariel K.

Yelp
I just came here for the first time & it exceeded my expectations. The food was made to order, & the wait was definitely worth it. I got the 8 piece wing with fries, & the portion was generous. The color scheme is also so friendly & fun!
google avatar

Tasherrica S.

Yelp
Drove over 45 mins to come here and the food tasted liked old grease and smelled really bad. Attempted to report it however was not acknowledge nor was the food correct or refund issued. Addressed them as well via social media however still no result. Save your money food is horrible and service is NOT good.

Yelp
We were in the area looking for a black owned restaurant and found orange Lee which had great reviews! The restaurant is located in a shopping strip and they specialize in New Orleans cuisine which we love since most of my family is from there! They have a pretty big menu with a variety of po-boys, wings, sides and other Cajun specialties. We settled on the hot sausage pot boy with okra, Mac and cheese and red beans and rice. We also got a 16 count wing with Cajun lemon pepper and garlic Parmesan. The wings were a 3/5, the Cajun lemon pepper was a good flavor but the wings came out a little cold. We enjoyed the Mac and red beans, both had a good flavor. In total we spent about $80 on all the food which fed a family of four with a bit of leftovers.
google avatar

Yelp
Orange Lee's is an unassuming small diner in an easy to miss shopping strip. They were rated among the top 5 poboy joints on Yelp so we've been wanting to come review it. We made it and are glad for it! We were surprised to learn Orange Lee's is Black-owned and the wife was especially delighted to learn that the owners are from her home state of Louisiana...New Orleans to be exact. The dishes are comparatively expensive but you see the worth once you get your food. We had poboys and tried the boudin egg rolls. Everything was delicious and the owners worked the dining room making sure everyone was satisfied. We'll be back!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place... But I didn't. Nice couple and great customer service but the food... I didn't like. I didn't want to write this review as I love a good mom and pop spot. But I did. I figured I had to since I posted several pics. Nevertheless my hopes and dreams of good tasting Cajun food... It didn't appease my palate. It just didn't. I tried like 6 different items on the menu. I didn't enjoy anything I ordered, including the wings. I do wish them the best on this endeavor. Stay Strong and Prosper!

Yelp
If you're looking for some good comfort food some real authentic New Orleans food Orange Lee's is where you need to be ! The food was amazing made to order fresh and delicious. THAT OOWEE GOOEY CAKE WAS PRESSURE !!! The service was amazing S/O to the owner ! The restaurant itself is well kept and very clean they have a great decor from the dining area to the bathroom. I would highly recommend trying Orange Lee's.
google avatar

Queen J S.

Yelp
The food was HORRIBLE!!!!! All our food was precooked. The service was poor due to the lack of knowledge of THEIR OWN menu. The Ambiance?!!! What Ambiance? The decor was ok.
google avatar

Fit Trucker P.

Yelp
As place worth saving to your favorite food places. The owner is very down to earth and respectful! The ambiance is very good to match the food that words can't describe. I will definitely be back because there's no way I'm not trying this whole menu!!!! Thank you Mr.Jamar & Ms.Stacy for a out of this world experience
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
You know what. I'm so sick of our black owned business asking for support and then not following through with customer service, good product, etc. I have seen good reviews on instagram and my wife wanted to try this place and we live over 35 minutes away. So against my better judgment I took the long drive to make her happy. The hours on the door and Facebook was clear. Close at 11:00pm. We pulled up at 9:57pm exactly and the workers inside put up the closed sign. I'm too disappointed and pissed to go further. Was looking forward to seeing what the hype was about but first impressions have completely destroyed my confidence in this place. No sir, I'M DONE!!! Will take my business and hard earned money to the other folks who honor their actual and posted closing times.
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
I like it spicy! I added the Tabasco sauce available on the table for the crawfish egg rolls, and the fried shrimp were nice and crunchy! The atmosphere was 70/80's "sheek!"
google avatar

Azarria A.

Yelp
I only gave four stars because my food took longer than I expected to be ready but since this is a smaller restaurant I can understand why. We got the seafood french fries they were good fries tasted a little bit greasy but good non the less. We also got the shrimp pasta it was good. The vibe is very like family owned vibe I like that a lot.
google avatar

Tudon M.

Yelp
Food was well seasoned. The service was overall good, but the music was too loud and made it hard to hear. Gumbo was tasty, Poboy had toasted buns and not too much bread, wings were well seasoned and the potato was a hit. The rice was too expensive, but it was overall good.
google avatar

Clif A.

Yelp
The service was great & welcoming, the food was the best New Orleans food I've had since I been in Houston being I'm from New Orleans that says a lot we had the shrimp po boy and fried chicken nachos and daiquiris
google avatar

Bryce R.

Yelp
If you're looking for a wing spot, this place is LEGIT! We got the zesty ranch, sweet heat, and Cajun lemon pepper. All were great but the Cajun lemon pepper had all our votes. We also had the Shrimp po boy which was great, but was outshined by those Cajun lemon pepper wings. While this place may not be much to look at from the outside, the old adage "Never judge a book by its cover" fits here. The customer service was on point and you can tell they really care about you when you walk through the door. Go give it a shot and try the Cajun lemon pepper wings for sure! You won't regret it!

Travis C.

Yelp
Please make me change my review. I really want to try the Cajun lemon pepper wings. I have never been here and want to try this place. I've heard good things. I have been twice to try to eat at this restaurant the past two Saturdays. I went at noon. No one was there and they had a sign up saying they would be open at 2. Please change your hours if this is going to be a regular thing. I cannot go during the week like many ppl. I find most business at restaurants is the best on weekends so I do not understand why they would want to open later. I will change my review when I see better performance hopefully I actually get to eat there. I am posting pics as well. This sign has been posted multiple weeks please update your hours so ppl who drive to your location know your open. This has happened two weeks in a row the same sign too. They may just be leaving it up all the time. Also if your are a lunch and dinner place 2 pm is pretty late for lunch. You may as well just be a dinner spot. Please help me change my review.

Yelp
I cheated today. And I blame it all on my friends and neighbors for continuing to post about this new spot in our neighborhood. We had the shrimp poboy. Do you see the size of that thing?!? The bread y'all The gumbo. The 7up cake. Everything was super fresh and delicious. Joe is already planning his next trip. Try it y'all. #worthit #supportlocal #cypresstx

Yelp
Hands down the best Po Boy I've ever had!!!! The catfish was fried lightly with a perfect crisp. It was seasoned well and i kept lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and pickles on it. The fries well great as well. It's a quaint restaurant with a New Orleans presence. They has a few tables and chairs for dine in with music playing at a reasonable level. The customer service was A1! I'll definitely return and share my experience. AMAZING! Plate left empty!
google avatar

Nae M.

Yelp
Some of the best food in Houston! They should definitely have a line out the store. Them waaaaangs are something else! I will be back for sure
google avatar

Peter S.

Yelp
I drove 35 min to try this place, and another 35 before I could eat it back at home . I would dove an hour for another Po boy from them. It's sooo good . The wings surprisingly. Not pretty but really good. Got the mild buffalo and the ranch dip taste different as well. Really good. And the crème de la crème this drink which was 4$ a bottle but it's good
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
Went in after reading an article on the chron about yakamein and lemme tell ya, it's good. Staff were friendly, asked how I heard of them and were happy to serve their soup and noodles! It's a bowl of comfort and a warm hug all in one. Simple in seasoning but delicious, it's even better with some crystal hot sauce on top. There serve a lot of stuff here but that yakamein is a star. I'll be coming back for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
10/10 babyyyyy listen. I went to the gym and while working out and saying my affirmations I said I'm hungry which made me laugh. So afterwards I said forget it let me try this wing place have a small portion and gone on about my life! WELL I went and let me tell y'all I was greeted and asked if I'd ever been here which my answer was no and I proceeded to order my food. I watched others eat their food, vibe to the music, and just be happy!!! Well when I got to my truck I said let me see what the hype is about! OMG let's just say this place is going to be PROBLEMATIC in my life cause I'm going to come here EVERY TIME I want some slap yo mama wings! I ordered 8 wings 4 were Cajun Lemon pepper and 4 were honey BBQ...and I had shrimp fried rice and a ooyey gooey strawberry cake slice. It's a shame that I can't wait to bring all my friends and make more posts about this place! Highly recommend this place!!
google avatar

Dana B.

Yelp
My shrimp and fish looked and tasted like it was fried in old grease. As a native New Orleanian, I expected more seasoning and better flavor. The bread used for the po-boy is also subpar. You can't have a good po-boy without great French bread.
google avatar

Shanavier B.

Yelp
Those boudin egg rolls are a must!!! And the juices in the fridge behind the counter are delicious! Service is so amazing. You'll leave feeling like family and planning when to go back.
google avatar

Russell H.

Yelp
This is a must try! Great for Lunch. The teammates at my company order by the dozen each day. They open at 12 noon.

Annitra B.

Yelp
I took a 35 minute drive to this place, only to discover they closed early. The website and the door had a closure time of 11 pm. I'm so sick of black owned businesses that don't have their things in order. I won't be coming back. The employees just waved their hands with no explanation as to why the establishment was closed at 9:45.
google avatar

Kimber G.

Yelp
Perfect spot for your seafood cravings and more. Great atmosphere, and the top tier personable and very inviting service.
google avatar

Ajanae B.

Yelp
First off don't walk but RUNNNN!!!! When I tell you this restaurant is a 10000000/10 the food will speak for itself. The customer service was a 10/10 the workers was so welcoming and made sure you felt comfortable! You can tell it's a family owned business!! It's located in cypress Texas but I promise you it's worth the drive!!

Delvond G.

Yelp
If you are having WING NIGHT this is the place.. from the moment we walked in the door the vibes and hospitality was amazing. We were instantly greeted and helped with the menu options. Now the food, was absolutely delicious. The Zesty Ranch wings were well done, nice size and flavorful. I also tried the seafood gumbo and it was filled with meat and rice. The freshly made fruit punch drink was so good. This place is a 10/10 and me and my family will be visiting again soon. Unfortunately I didn't get any desserts but the egg rolls were the best part of the meal.
google avatar

Darnell S.

Yelp
Great Service. Very favorable food. The tea and red punch is additive. Very personable people and a lovely atmosphere. I'm from New Orleans and they deserve every star given. Keep up the awesome work.

Britt V.

Yelp
We heard about this place on TikTok. The wings were AMAZING. We got Cajun Lemon Pepper and Sweet Heat. I highly recommend. The service was great and the we didn't wait long to get the food. I will definitely be back.

Eric R.

Yelp
A bit pricey and the staff was kind of rude. Maybe an off day....‍. The wait time to get our food was a bit lengthy, could have been that we were too early, showed up right when they opened. There were 3 tables that had guests, 2 with one person and ours, there were 2 of us. Might go back to give them another chance.

Kimberly C.

Yelp
Food was good. I'm from Louisiana so I was looking for some good home soul food. Service was good. Friendly staff. Has a stuffed baked potato--delicious

Brooke S.

Yelp
I've tried multiple items on the menu and they are were delicious! The seafood nachos and seafood fries were fire! Shrimp fried rice, fire , wings were fire! The customer service was top notch, I understand recently the traffic in the restaurant has been heavy which you can expect when the food, customer service, and ambiance is good. I would say call ahead or prepare to wait but the food and experience is worth it.

Alison M.

Yelp
Listen....I love a good poboy. I have had almost every poboy talked about in the city. THIS IS THE BEST POBOY I HAVE HAD IN HOUSTON. I got the hot sausage (bc duh, of course) and I did not regret it. Soft bread, fresh veggies, delicious sausage, and the cheese was melted perfectly. Black owned business that we want to continue to thrive in the area. Crawfish eggroll was so yummy too but not my thing. They have new orleans asian noodles yakamein too. Please support this business, the food is worth it.

Karmelo F.

Yelp
Mane y'all tapn wings got flavor in juice like a mug best wings and homemade Mac and cheese w flavor greens if yu ain't tried it yu need to tapn asap

Noël L.

Yelp
Very friendly atmosphere with amazing customer service! Food was hot and fresh and tasted amazing! Will definitely be visiting again! Also enjoy the little outdoor seating they had available!

Amara P.

Yelp
Food was amazing and the customer service was excellent. I just recently moved to Houston and my boyfriend and I tried this restaurant last week. My family came down to visit and this was one of the places that we had to go. The Poboys are flavorful and portion sizes are great. Will most definitely be back!!!

Lia P.

Yelp
Incredible food with extremely kind staff. The shrimp poboy was delicious with great flavor and the fries were well seasoned. Juices and sodas are amazing and they compliment all the food wonderfully. The space is clean with music that fits the vibe. From out of town and I'll definitely be coming back!

George M.

Yelp
Amazing food and staff. Everything we ordered was excellent. The gumbo is on point and the Po'boys just as good. Highly recommend this place. Family owned and operated.

Chiquita W.

Yelp
I've visited this restaurant twice. The service is good, the family is nice and welcoming. The food is pretty good. Had the shrimp fried rice both times and not sure why it's sweet but I still might order it again. Only bc I like shrimp fried rice. The menu is definitely pricey tho, would only go back to feed myself and not my whole family.

Eline B.

Yelp
I ordered the seafood potato. My potato was old and clumpy. I don't eat leftovers.

Yuri E.

Yelp
Staff was a bit overwhelmed by the number of people walking in the door. They communicated it would be at least a 30 minute wait after placing the order. At one point they stopped taking orders altogether. We were eating on site so we stayed. We placed the order at 7:01 pm. 5 meals. The food was brought out in sprinkles. Meaning it wasn't all brought out at once. The gumbo and hot wings were brought out first, 33 minutes from placing the order, the potato was next and the PoBoys were brought out 45 and 55 minutes from when we initially placed the order. The loaded potato was a hit and worth the drive. It's really good and hearty. The wings were a big and greasy, shrimp PoBoys lacked flavor. The shrimp was fried but had no type of seasoning. I am going to return on a weekday to try other items on their menu. Their egg rolls and nachos are on my to do list. Their potatoes were a hit but Just be aware that it's not the type of place you'll get your food in 15 minutes.

Lesha J.

Yelp
I got the shrimp po-boy. Now that's what you call a po- boy ya heard me. That po-boy didn't have no 6 shrimp either! It was real New Orleans style po-boy full of large shrimp not no popcorn shrimp. I'm not from New Orleans but I'm from South Louisiana and we know about some food and we believe in giving you what you pay for just as our fellow New Orleanians! I'm glad my daughter told me about y'all. I'll be back.Thank you Orange Lee's for representing! Who dat!! Y'all go check them out; you won't be disappointed! Ljacks

Chris A.

Yelp
Stopped by today for lunch. Very nice lady greeted me. Nice music in the background. Ordered the catfish poboy. Best one I've had in the city. The bread was amazing. Fresh tomatoes. Good hot catfish. Can't wait to go back.

Nicoya M.

Yelp
I loved everything about this place! The crawfish egg rolls are FIRE. The shrimp fried was amazing the flavor hits them taste buds like helllooo! We were greeted by everyone with a smile and warm hello's. They recommend the drinks that taste amazing! The ambience was unique and I loved the chairs and Photo Booth. I can't wait to come back! I have no pictures we devoured everything before I could even think about pictures.
