"Look for the chalk sign near the very end of South Road in Aquinnah that reads “Bread today! Please stop by,” and you’ll have found Orange Peel Bakery. The outdoor oven is often manned by the owner, an island native, and locals will pick up bread and jams from her small shop year-round (it’s on the honor system, so bring cash). From April to November, visit the outdoor location for pizza nights Thursday-Saturday, which almost feel like you’ve snuck into a locals-only hang. There’s no set menu, but you’ll usually find options like veggie, cheese, and pepperoni, and they also host BYOB Sunday dinners on occasion, with mains like whole fish and filet mignon. Check their Instagram for dates. " - tanya edwards

We stopped by here once to check it out. Its is a bakery stand that relies on the honor system. There was lots of sweet and some savory baked goods options. It is cash or venmo only so if you have spotty cell service take cash so you don’t walk away empty handed like we did! We came back on Thursday night for the wood oven pizza. We came during the off season (late June) and we were the only other pair of people there from 6-8pm. $35 per person, considering MV prices is not unreasonable. They provide a cheese pizza and some pizza toppings, we did not know this and brought all sorts of toppings. They asked us for every pizza we create to leave half and share with others to help create community! We brought our own wine and they had paper cups so if you prefer to have a nicer glass bring your own! They had lots of seating to enjoy your pizza and red wine (if you bring it yourself!) Overall, if you are staying near by you should be stopping by every other day. If you’re in Vineyard Haven, Edgartown or Oak Bluffs, please make the trip down to eat some wood fire oven pizza and take some baked goods for the road!

Orange Peel Bakery is an absolute paradise for the senses! From the moment you step on the grounds, the aroma of freshly baked goods wraps you in a warm embrace. This hidden gem is more than just a bakery; it's a culinary haven that seamlessly blends innovation with tradition. The event space is a true standout feature. It's beautifully designed, offering a versatile backdrop for any occasion. The thoughtfulness put into every detail is evident, creating an inviting atmosphere that lingers long after you've left. The bee farm adds an element of eco-consciousness that's both refreshing and inspiring. Connecting the farm-to-table concept, their commitment to sustainability is palpable in every bite. And speaking of bites, the stone oven pizzas are a revelation! The perfect marriage of crispy crusts and mouthwatering toppings creates an explosion of flavors that's hard to forget. What truly amazed me was the breadth of their product selection. From delicate pastries to hearty bread, each item showcases their dedication to quality and creativity. It's evident that the artisans behind Orange Peel Bakery have an unwavering passion for their craft. In a world where experiences matter, Orange Peel Bakery goes above and beyond. It's a place where you can indulge your taste buds, connect with nature through the bee farm, and create lasting memories in their event space. If you're seeking a symphony of flavors, a touch of sustainability, and an escape from the ordinary, Orange Peel Bakery is your destination.

One of the best kept secrets on MVY. This is a wonderful place to pick up delicious baked goods from a Wampanoag Indian Tribe member. I bring all my island guests to Orange Peel!

Google
Adorable little self service shack on the west side of the island. We were there off season I imagine it gets a bit more lively when the pizza oven is going but I enjoyed my chocolate croissant and coffee!

Excellent baked goods! We still keep talking about the carrot cake cupcakes. It was the best our entire group has ever had.

Google
It’s a must go! Pizza night was awesome, cool outdoor experience with the wood fire oven. We went with the everything pizza 10/10 … the little store where they sell their baked goods was really good and had a lot of good option. Cash or Venmo only here

If you are ever in Martha's Vineyard, take an excursion to Aqiunnah Massachusetts. You must visit the Cliffs and stop by Orange Peel for the pizza and her baked goods.

This is my favorite place to grab a morning scone on the way to Lobsterville Beach. Their muffins have some really nice flavors, like anything with peaches. Yummy! Cash only at the new bakery shed.

Yelp
The wood fired pizzas were so good and being able to watch them be made, made for an even cooler experience! They were made so quick too, the girls were so nice and thorough and patient with our large party! The area is cute and quiet and peaceful in a nature scene. I loved it. They also have baked goods where you can pay via venmo and grab and go. The brownies and croissants were delicious!

Jessica C.

Yelp
Charming, wonderful variety, cozy shop open every day to pay by cash or venmo. This is a woman-owned Wampanoag business using traditional and modern recipe inspirations. Pizza on Thursday and Friday April-November with byob and toppings, dough sauce cheese provided. The nicest owner who welcomed us with her friendly personality. A treasure!

Marissa R.

Yelp
The cutest bakery shop that's the most COVID-19 friendly. My family and I stopped by after a hike. I highly recommend the raspberry and lemon croissant. It actually had pieces of lemon in the filling. Yum! Please be prepared with cash and if you're not confident in your math- don't be ashamed to pull out a calculator or count on your fingers. I know I had to!

Yelp
Stopped by this place on our way back from gay head lighthouse. It is an honor system bakery. It's a great stop for a snack. It made me happy to see that people were stopping and buying goods. There was a basket with money and you could even make your own change. All the goods were marked with a price. They even have a fridge with drinks. They had breads, cookies, biscuits and canned items. I tried their vegan pumpkin and cheese biscuit. They were both delicious. The vegan pumpkin was moist and sweet. They have a sign for pizza night. They have limited parking, but we didn't have a difficult time parking. If you want to enjoy your snack there, they do have some seating outside.

Yelp
We have to preface this review by saying that Orange Peel seems like an incredible local business run by a very lovely woman. We really wanted to love this place and don't want to discourage anyone else from going, but we did not have the best experience there. We specifically made the long drive out here excited to get some baked goods for breakfast. It's an adorable little shed and the whole thing works on the honor system--thank goodness that we had cash on us since you just add up your total and leave the money in the bowl. We got four pastries and when we went to find a place to try and sit down, the patio furniture was still wet from the rain that happened a couple days earlier--we were given no warning and so ended up having a little picnic on the patio floor. No worries, though, happy to make the best of it...but then we started eating our goodies and were shockingly disappointed. NOTHING tasted like it was made that morning. The vegan pumpkin cake was bland and the pear scone must have been mislabeled because there were cranberries and bacon in it (??)--just not what we were expecting. Our daughter's brownie was probably the best item and it was certainly nothing extraordinary at that. The chocolate chip cookie was SO dry and crumbly. Listen, it's very possible that we just caught this place on a bad day and picked the wrong items. There are obviously plenty of other glowing reviews to contradict us and we'd be happy to be wrong this time, but we're just giving our honest experience. We'd be willing to try Orange Peel again if we happened to be out near Aquinnah for another reason, but right now we're feeling bummed about having to write this review.

Yelp
Very flavorful food! Had olive/pesto focaccia, scones (raisin, cranberry), and an apricot/almond tart. Flavors were well-balanced. Nothing was overly sweet. Cash only on an honor system.

Yelp
Wonderful tucked away small business owned bakery! Was in Martha's Vineyard thus past summer, and we stopped here a few times to get all sorts of delicious baked goods. Everything is made on site, and all we tried were top notch. The owner is awesome, as well. Hope to try their pizza at some point!

Lisa S.

Yelp
What a great concept! Small business with homemade baked goods, open 24 hours using the honor system. We got 2 breads and a scone. All were high quality but very stale. One item got mold the day after we bought it. The prices are way too high if they merchandise is old. It's fine to sell day old (though frankly I think they were older than that) if it is labeled and priced as such. In my opinion, the honor system works both ways, and I don't feel honored as a customer.

Lauren S.

Yelp
Good vibes, delicious array of unique baked goods with the best chocolate brownie I've ever had (GF). Definitely check it out.

Kathleen F.

Yelp
Ooh so good...love the self service hut so many good snacks to choose from. Loved their plaid jackets, I will return

Desi Y.

Yelp
Quaint bakery that is worth a quick stop for a sweet treat on your tour of the vineyard. Thankful that they seem to be open during the off season, too!

Austin R.

Yelp
Pizza was great. The owner was also incredibly nice, I had leftovers but I had arrived on a bicycle and had nowhere to put it so she looked around her yard for a few minutes until she found a bungee cord and some zip ties to secure the box to the back of my bike. Such an awesome little spot on the way to Menemsha beach.

Yelp
Check out Wednesday pizza night! Well worth the stop! Amazing baked goods! Please check out this gem

Diane W.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. Friendly and everyone welcome. Order your meals in advance. Pay by honor system. Fresh baked goods. Pecan pie, cheddar, chive bread. I will come back.

Keri P.

Yelp
We got pizza (to go) from here on Wednesday night. It was really really good. The wood fire oven makes the crust so crispy, yet remaining nice and chewy on the inside. If we are ever back on the Island, we'll for sure get pizza again. This morning we headed over to the lighthouse and were happy to see the bakery was serving food in a little shop. Their sausage, egg & cheese biscuit sandwich is by far was the best breakfast I've had in a long long time.

Michelle L.

Yelp
Stopped by on our way back from the Aquinnah Cliffs. The salted caramel cookie was so good that we came back for more! The homemade rolls made a great addition to our charcuterie board that night and the caramel apple croissant was simple delicious!

Jeff P.

Yelp
So we were driving around Martha's Vineyard exploring and came across this place. We saw it on the things to do lists that we reviewed prior to the trip. So we stopped, pulled up and there it stood...this oven, like a thing of beauty. The light shined down upon it as you could smell the treats being baked. The oven is straight from France and assembled here in the states stone by stone. You don't usually see a wood fired oven throwing out baked goods, but this place does it right. The wood fired flavor is minimal but you can definitely taste something different about it. Like most places in MV, they work off of the honor system so if you see something you want inside just put your money in the jar and gobble it down on the spot...don't be bashful....you know you want to...no one is watching. The little shop is tiny and doubles as the prep area. This is a don't miss stop while in MV if you like baked goods and wood fired anything.

Mary F.

Yelp
Well.... this bakery is part of the charm of the vineyard but I can't get past the smell of raw sewage. It wasn't just a one time thing...the smell is there the last two times I visited. I won't be back.

Robert A.

Yelp
This bakery is a gem. The baked goods are amazing, the pricing is reasonable and works on an honor system but most importantly, the owner is so kind and generous. We arrived at 4:00 and were lucky to get the last challah bread. We needed another loaf and the owner instructed us to come the following day. Sure enough, when we arrived at 8:00 am the next morning, our challah was warm and just out of the oven. We had a wonderful birthday brunch thanks to Orange Peel Bakery.

Elaine R.

Yelp
We went for our first community pizza night while vacationing on the vineyard. It was a fantastic way to meet others and enjoy a community feel. There was live music, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and once you get the hang of how it all works, you are set for the rest of the evening. Bakery items are bought on an honor system; pay for what you take, but no one is there to make sure you do. Just take whatever change you need from the bowl. I love that there is so much trust put in people because it demonstrates that communities stick together and do what is right. We hope Orange Peel is here to stay for generations to come.

Lisa B.

Yelp
A hidden gem! Drive slowly on the road through Aquinnah and you'll see it. I wasn't blown away by the pastries, but the breads were exceptional. We got the baguette and the honey whole wheat. I will be back. Note: this place is self-serve and really tiny.

Elena S.

Yelp
Delicious pastries. Really cool outdoor oven. Worth the stop on the way in/out of the cliffs.

Victoria V.

Yelp
This is a favorite!! All baked goods are excellent! Love the cookies and the rosemary olive bread was superb! Lovely owner as well!

Shannon S.

Yelp
Best fresh baked goods in town!! The kalamata olive pesto focaccia bread is my favorite! The best part is that it runs on an honor system so they're always open! Wednesday night pizza is the highlight of my week!

Whitney H.

Yelp
Extremely pleasant experience. Breads were fresh. I purchased banana bread, a biscuit, and a chocolate chip cookie. I consumed a traditional biscuit with local honey before leaving the property. The bakery is nestled in the mountains, and has enough tables and games available for a family. Parking is tight if it is busy, but we went around noon on a weekday without issues. They have Wednesday and Saturday pizza nights, and this attracts a crowd. Note: if rain it is canceled. This will be a regular stop on my Vineyard summers.

Alittle G.

Yelp
Wednesday nite pizza extravaganza! Think, private boho cool backyard party that you accidentally scored an invite to, and you find yourself in the midst of live music, neighbors meeting island locals seated on stumps drinking wine around a firepit, and super happy kids jumping on a trampoline, with everyone having a slice of delicious wood fired pizza in hand. Relaxed, fun, and a not to miss scene. Bring your own toppings (and wine) and there is a communal table to share. You might get a slice of the pizza you made, but a good chance you are having so much fun talking with new peeps, that you missed when it came out so its a free for all for the next slice. Excellent idea and I can't say how much we enjoyed this. Orange Peel, you are the greatest, thank you!

Chip P.

Yelp
Have always passed by here with never enough time to stop by. This time we pulled in, with the usual hunger, and were greeted by Michael manning the wood fire oven. Seeing the pizza options we quickly pounced on an olive and basil combination. Michael made quick work of the preparation and cooking. From there it quickly disappeared. Our advice, take the time, pull in and sit out back with the birds chirping!

Nancy S.

Yelp
OMG, this place is a gem. We tried a challah cinnamon roll, a few different scones, and biscuits. They were all some of the best baked goods I've ever had, particularly the scones. I'm not really a scone person but I could eat the peach apricot raisin scone everyday forever. Thank you Orange Peel for being so cool and so delicious!

K A.

Yelp
We took a wrong turn yesterday and by serendipity were treated to some of the best baked goods our mouths have ever known. My sons are crazy for the cheddar chive scones, and I believe I can eat this whole loaf of kalamata ciabatta in a day. That I got to see the crust being made for the infamous raspberry tart is thrilling. My boys and I agreed that this little detour was a highlight of our whole trip to MVI. Wish we'd known about it sooner. It'd be a good idea to call in advance to see what they have and when.

Henry F.

Yelp
Charming little establishment in the Town of Aquinnah that opened somewhat recently. Pick up a pastry or some bread, look for whatever's freshest out the oven. They also have a pizza night as mentioned by other reviews which is very fun. Bring your own toppings.

Nathan C.

Yelp
Amazing bakery. Picked up some croissants and cookies. They were all fresh and delicious. The chocolate croissant was one of the best I've ever had.

Roberta T.

Yelp
Amazing food and wonderful back story of the Wappanaug tribe. Baked goods are the best on the island, including the cookies, linzer torte and scones. At the cafe on Gay Head Cliffs, the lobster roll is huge and seasoned without mayonnaise or aioli, pure lobster meat perfectly seasoned on a toasted, buttered challah roll served with a yummy cole slaw. Outdoor seating at the bakery is near the one of a kind 10 foot stone oven. I'm sure it's the only one in existence. Did I mention that you pay on the "honor system"? You must try this place.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Great place, great hospitality, great pizza we go anytime we are on the island and it is going on. We have been going for years it is fun trying to create new pizzas each year! If you are on MV on a Wednesday night go!!

Debbie L.

Yelp
Visited in late October which may account for our experience. We arrived around noon to find little available. A lone coffeecake, some cookies, no breads or pastries. We tried the coffeecake which was just ok. Perhaps visiting in the summer is a better bet.

Helen W.

Yelp
Don't miss a stop here while in MV!!! Take a ride out on your bike and have a scone! Bring home some bread for the best toast!!

Maria J.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Open until 10pm. So perfect for that after dinner sweet craving! Definitely try the chocolate croissant.
