London’s New Restaurant Openings - London - The Infatuation

"Shoreditch wine bar Oranj is moving to a bigger spot, still in Shoreditch. “Bigger” in this case means terrace seating and breezy windows (not a thing at the last location). There’s an added Sunday lunch menu too, as well as the usual rotating line-up of chef residencies and DJ nights." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

The 13 Best Bars In Shoreditch

"You enter this industrial wine bar with changing chef residencies through unmarked creaking black garage doors, and once inside this space is always humming. Depending on who's in the kitchen, you can just as easily come to Oranj for a few pre-dinner glasses as you can for a whole sit-down affair. The space has the feel of a gallery opening, guest list-only, NTS-soundtracked supper club and, given its proximity to Brick Lane, still manages to feel quite secret." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing

Oranj - Review - Shoreditch - London - The Infatuation

"You never quite know what you’re going to get with Shoreditch and, pushing open Oranj’s unmarked creaking black garage doors, we would be lying if we didn’t have shuddering visions of an orange wine and jumpsuit-type experience. Thankfully, the industrial wine bar with changing chef residencies is nothing of the sorts. Depending on who's in the kitchen, you can just as easily come to Oranj for a few pre-dinner glasses as you can for a whole sit-down affair. The space has the feel of a gallery opening, guest list-only, NTS-soundtracked supper club and, given its proximity to Brick Lane, still manages to feel quite secret." - Jake Missing

A legal robbery. And to be clear - it's not that it's expensive, it's that what you get is extremely poor and limited for the price. All the dishes we tried were ordinary - nothing special - and both desserts were a joke. They serve three pieces of plain bread without any butter for £5 - that's a new low. The atmosphere is okay, but not comfortable. We arrived early and were given the worst table - why? They did change it after we asked, but still. The worst part: you sit on tiny stools that become torture after 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the staff mostly chat among themselves. I'd love to see them sit on those awful chairs themselves. The wine was decent, but there was only one orange option by the glass - not great if you want to try different ones without buying a whole bottle. Bottles start at £60, which is a bad joke for a place where you're supposed to explore different orange wines. Slow, overpriced, bland. A below mediocre spot that's seriously overrated. Avoid

I wouldn’t say it differentiates itself from the other small plate & wine bars out there. The food is tasty, the ambiance is trendy (think candle lit, industrial warehouse), and it’s priced accordingly. It’s not a bad spot, we certainly enjoyed our meal but most other restaurants in this price range will wow you in a way that Oranj just didn’t

Came a few times with friends and in dates and loved to discover a different menu and experience every time. They host residencies for chefs from all over the world and the food is always fresh and exciting. The wine pairing is a great plus, would recommend and will be coming back soon!

went for the minsoo kim week, food was quite delicious ! Especially the île flottante, i will be thinking about you forever <3 prices are ridiculous and i was still hungry, there’s other places that do guest chef better in london where you get more bang for your buck not gonna lie, service was sparse as hell. the waiters look like they have fun, though so good for them. But as someone who works hospitality I wouldn’t walk over to a guest’s table with food in my mouth <3

Decent wine list, but awful value. Paid £9 for some what tasted like packet noodles with nothing but a salty sauce and £3 for basic supermarket olives - told they would come with nuts they didn’t, on the bill it said olives and peppers there were none. Not even toothpicks to eat them with… also tiny portions. Very much style over substance - hipsters will love it and it’s fine for a drink, but there are better value wine bars in London

From start to finish, the meal had intention and generosity—both in flavor and quantity. The lovely young sommelier made the evening feel personal and special. It’s rare to find this level of quality at such a fair price. I really enjoyed the chefs, one of my fav: Ed Tejada

I was hesitant to come based on the other reviews, but this was the perfect spot for a light dinner and wine before heading elsewhere for a Friday night. The portions are small, but they are absolutely delicious! We went for mackerel bites, lamb, and an assortment of veggies. I was shocked how well prepared all the veggies were. My favorite was the broccoli. It was perfectly charred with a great dipping sauce. The wines were fun to try. They have plenty by the glass and even more by the bottle. The only downside is we were sitting at the high tops where at times it was a bit cramped. I think sitting at a normal table would have been more comfortable, but now we know for next time!

We came for an aperitivo, drawn by the atmosphere and wine list. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing due to the service. From the moment we arrived, we were pressured to order quickly, even after clearly saying we weren’t ready yet. One particularly tall waitress was noticeably rude, with a cold, almost clinical attitude that made us feel unwelcome. (We paid the service charge anyway) The wine itself was good, but the poor service ruined the overall experience. Sadly, we won’t be returning.
