11 Horror Film Sets Where You Can Revisit Your Greatest Fears

"Orava Castle is an eerie and majestic place, built high up on a rocky cliff over the winding Orava river. It is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved medieval castles in Slovakia, dating back to the 13th century.  Its long history starts as a military barracks built after a Mongol invasion to defend what was then the Kingdom of Hungary. Seven centuries later it still stands, now an elaborate neo-Gothic castle that holds many unique myths and legends.  Notably, the striking exterior was used as the filming location for Count Orlok’s Transylvanian castle in the 1922 silent film Nosferatu, a claim to fame that adds to its haunting appeal. Inside, a tour of the castle museum takes visitors through the knights’ room, paintings gallery, weapons room, and a collection of many scientific and archaeological artifacts." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Entry fee is great, 9e / adult and children up to 6 years are free. During winter there is "only" basic tour open but it was absolutely enough for us (family of 2. Kids 3 and 5 y). It took us almost 90 minutes to walk through all of it but it was affected by the snow so that we had to be careful while taking stairs outside. Kids absolutely loved it. You can download app and have your own tourist guide during your visit. Definately recommend!

Wonderful spot, dramatic view during autumn season. Unfortunately the castle was closed due a public holiday, but there’s a lot of places to walking around.

This castle has a vintage look that attracts more to me. Orava Castle, built on a rock above the river Orava in Oravský Podzámok like an “eagle nest”, is one of the greatest tourist attractions of northern Slovakia. Must visit this place.

An incredibly beautiful castle that was reconstructed after a fire. I recommend visiting it, the tickets are worth it. I’m also sharing with you a video of the castle from a bird’s-eye view, which I managed to capture.

Stairs. Lots of stairs. 😳 The castle is self-guided, but there are 3 different packages. Get the A+B Package (The Big Tour) to see the beautiful rooms. A great visit, but so many stairs!!!! More stairs than any castle we've visited.

10 years living in Europe and countless castles. This is by far my favorite! The castle is huge and the renovation is just spectacular. Many many rooms filled with period clothing, furniture, and other items to give you a feeling of what it might be like to live there. A real gem. SIDE NOTE: Anyone giving this amazing site a 1 or 2 star rating because you had to pay a few euros for parking should be ashamed.

A pretty castle with a lot of nice history. Some parts are available only for the full tour (A+B) which I recommend. Avoid visiting on the weekends, as some places get crowded and you have to wait a moment to access the stairs or some expositions

This is one of my favorite castles with incredible history. Is very nice renovated and it looks very nice inside. There were filmed a lot of great movies for example Dracula which you can find displayed in one of the rooms. Would recommend to buy a tour to hear all the interesting topics about this castle.
