The 10 Best Restaurants & Bars On Orcas Island - Seattle - The Infatuation

"When you’re getting ready to go back to Seattle, even with a booked ferry reservation, you still need to arrive an hour before the boat departs. This leaves you with some time to kill. We like to think that’s why Boathouse Ciderworks exists. It’s a bar right next to the Orcas ferry docks that serves a few different types of hard ciders brewed in-house, from classic dry and semi-sweet to versions infused with Cascade hops or rose petals. So, you could sit in the car cleaning out your glove compartment for 45 minutes, or you could go drink a flight while snacking on bowls of spiced popcorn or hummus on their waterfront deck. Your call." - aimee rizzo

Google
Wonderful! I was tired and the ferry I was due to take was canceled. I was allowed to stay past close and I felt very welcomed, and I also hand an excellent dinner! I'm really considering having my next bday here. Thanks again for the hospitality, the atmosphere was great.

Google
One of the best meals we had on Orcas! Simple and delish. We had the kale and sausage soup, perfect for a cold winter day. Beautiful view while waiting for the ferry, will happily return next time I visit.

James S.

Google
Great breakfast burrito while waiting for the ferry. I ate at the cafe / counter service side. Decent menu (posted). The barista was accommodating and well versed. We hung out on the porch rocking chairs and waited for the ferry to come in.

Kevin A.

Google
Best view for coffee on the island. I arrive early to the ferry so I can grab a cup of coffee and some food. It overlooks the ferry dock so you can see your ferry coming in from a relaxing, historic venue. Great front porch for the warmer months. New owners have really upgraded the menu and quality of baked goods. We had a gluten free torte that was delicious.

Google
This was an incredible little stop on our trip to Orcas Island. We had the kale and sausage soup, green salad, and bread and butter. It was simple, healthy, and so good. The best view, too! And wonderful service.

Christopher Van P.

Google
The burgers here are phenomenal! And there's no better view for your dining than you'll find looking over a ferry dock and the Salish Sea

Jen O.

Google
Beautiful spot for a lovely lunch outside while waiting for the ferry. Had a cup of clam chowder and a visit from a couple of cute bunnies while I ate my lunch in the garden area. A little pricey but delicious.

Google
What a gem. We ate at the Cafe almost everyday of our stay. A small menu made it easy to choose from and the entrees were all very well prepared and tasty. Indoor seating offered a lively mix of tourist and locals energy while outside seating offered fresh air and a relaxing view of the bay. Every one on staff was friendly and had a lot of pride in providing excellent service.

Yelp
My ferry was canceled brought the whole family here for breakfast the staff was hospitable and the food was so good we were happy we were happy for the delay. Pretty much had one of everything no notes. Excellent

Yelp
We were waiting for our late inter islands ferry so my wife and I went and got everyone some refreshments. We got to the care and doled it all out. Cookies were fresh and tasty. My mocha was perfect. Our daughter had chai. All were perfect. Sadly my wife dropped her coffee and went back to buy a new one. They kindly gave her a new one with thanks. How cool is that.

Yelp
This was one of the only restaurants open when I came through Orcas on a summer weekday (midweek). You don't need to be a hotel guest to eat here. The food/drink is nothing to call home about, but it's not terrible considering that the clientele is mostly a captive audience. There's a nice patio area in the front (kind of like a covered porch) if you wish to sit outside and enjoy the weather. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4

Yelp
Outstanding breakfast while in a rush to the ferry. Loved the elegant touch of a whipped yogurt which delish handmade jam. Congrats to the new owners, the space is now so full of light and stylish simplicity.

Yelp
Adding to my previous review. Went back for the breakfast burrito. Did not disappoint! Delicious and gigantic! Definitely a sharing situation if you have a person you'd like to share with. I'm saving mine for lunch later. Super friendly service and great vibes in the little cafe. Sounds of a mixer and such good smells. And of course the view! Yummy. SYOY!

Yelp
A must-visit. Under new ownership, this place has been transformed into a space that is both beautiful and genuinely inviting. The service strikes a rare balance--warm, attentive, and thoughtfully unobtrusive. The code is some of the best the island has to offer. I sampled a scone that was nothing short of divine, and the knowledge that the baked goods are made in-house lends the café an unmistakable sense of comfort and care. It's the kind of place that stays with you long after the last sip.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place because it's so gorgeous, and I loved how they included historical photos and their backstories, plus some historical items throughout the first and second floors. They also have beautiful grounds, and if you order at the Cafe, you can eat it outside, anywhere on the grounds, or inside if you wish. However, the food was severely overpriced for the serving size, flavor, and ingredient quality. Maybe it's because they're on an island and don't have access to quality ingredients or quantities. Still, the service was excellent, and the servers were super sweet and attentive. We felt bad because when our food was ready, our server was walking around looking for us since we decided to post up on the front porch area, and most folks ate closer to the Cafe. We're still glad we tried this place. The views are amazing, of course, since it's on the waterfront and has a small adjacent parking lot. A big shoutout to Stewart, one of the groundskeepers, who gave us more information on the hotel and even gave us a great recommendation for the White Horse Pub, which we loved!

Yelp
We love EVERYTHING about the Orcas Hotel Cafe. Great food to pick up on your way to the ferry of an amazing destlocation for dinner and cocktails at sunset. The breakfast sandwich is huge and the chicken pot pie is a great comfort food on Sundays for dinner. Don't miss the fish and chips for lunch! Oh, did I mention the cocktails?

Yelp
my burger was SO good!!! gina took my order and was so kind and accommodating. i'll stop in any time im waiting for a ferry!

Yelp
I loved my stay! The rooms and hotel grounds are gorgeous. I had a beautiful view of the water and ferries. From my window I would randomly see wild turkeys and rabbits. The cafe down below was delicious, I really enjoyed the clam chowder. I had it twice! Their burger was pretty tasty too. The staff were friendly and professional- and also very accommodating prior to my arrival. They really strive to make sure you have a comfortable stay. There's hotel parking in the back for those who bring their car like me, which I'm glad i did. Last but not least, complimentary drip coffee at the cafe for guests. I'll definitely stay again. It was a nostalgic oasis- a perfect retreat for a birthday get away. A review I forgot to post in October.

Yelp
Wow Tesla dates are one of the new things we are experiencing. We got off the ferry and I wanted some hot chocolate and warm apple cider. Then he saw the burger and fries and he devoured it! He said it was better than sex haha and we're on our honeymoon. No it was absolutely delicious. The fries are VERY good. Salted well and I handed vinegar which was *chefs kiss* Can't beat this as our first meal! This has an amazing view and it was nice to sit outside even in October. Very happy to support this historic hotel!

Yelp
Good food, good people, wonderful location! What more could anyone want? The squash bowl was fantastic (I wish they added a bit more kale and dressing though) and the grilled salmon was perfectly cooked!

Yelp
Ordered as we where headed to the island. Didn't realize they outside seating. Fire tables, set up, overlooking the ocean. We ordered the burrito with out the tortilla, (gluten-free) they added bacon and avocado. Incredibly good. Fresh and hot. Just the right amount of pepper for hear. Bacon was perfect. Latte was good. No complaints

Yelp
We were starved and had our dreams crushed when we learned that the ferry was canceled to Friday Harbor at 655 am. We had plans to go to the Salty Fox to eat. We came back here after learning that nowhere on the island is opened on a Tuesday or is opened before 9 except a coffee place. Which I had visited earlier. This place was a godsend. We arrived , ordered and the young lady waiting on us asked if we were from Pennsylvania because of my T-shirt. I said yes and she said she was from Ohio and I asked what part and she said Youngstown. It's our neighbor by an hour and replied we live in Pittsburgh. Now the food sandwiches were all at 10.59 which is more expensive than PA but this is and island. I had the breakfast sandwich with sausage , egg and bacon. It was so damn good. Better than any Dunkin or Starbucks that I've ever had. My kids and wife got the Mexican burrito and it was enormous and delicious as well. Overall happy we visited. You sit inside or outside. Order when you arrive and they call your name to pick up your food.

Yelp
July 20th, Wednesday evening as my party of 4 waited for the ferry back to Anacortes. we decided to stop by the Orcas Hotel Cafe for dinner. Unfortunately, my partner fell on a precarious step to the front of the cafe that sent her phone flying and her knees hit the wooden deck hard! The step needs to be repainted with yellow or red paint to clearly present the safety issue. Our food was delicious: cheeseburger, chicken burrito & salad. The bathroom was clean & easily accessible. Biggest concern is the safety of future patrons with the precarious step that has a very faint unnoticeable cautionary note, refer to pictures. This put a damper on our Orcas Island trip! Strongly recommend painting the step to prevent anyone else from falling.

Matthew A.

Yelp
Had the pulled pork sandwich, an Old Fashioned, and garden salad with salmon. The Old Fashioned was tasty, and in the sandwich, the Cole slaw and pulled pork were good, but... the bun was pretty generic, and the ketchup was noticeably artificial and sweet tasting. Red Gold?! Why not Heinz, Hunt's, or like Costco brand?

Yelp
My husband and I had a great little breakfast here on our first day on the island. I ordered a really yummy, but hearty and filling breakfast sandwich. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito. Both items hit the spot and prepared us for a fun day of adventures on Orcas Island. We also ordered some coffee and pastries as well. Both were just as good as the food. The Orcas Hotel Cafe is located right across the street from the ferry terminal, so it a good first stop for food on the island. Everything is made to order so you know you are getting fresh, tasty food. Due to covid, they do not bring food to your table. You come pick up the food yourself once your name is called. A great first stop for food without driving all way into town.

Yelp
This is a very cute cafe by the water. We came in for coffee and shared a breakfast meal. We had a cup of of regular drip with cream and sugar and, it was very nicely mixed. The young lady a the front was very polite and pleasant. I enjoyed and finished my coffee- finally! The carne asada was really good and on the light side. On the side was a small pickled mixed or pickled red onions with red cabbage, tomatoes and cilantro. A splash of lime made this meal refreshing and tasty. Should you need salsa on the side? They have some available as well. That was short and nice before getting on the ferry back to Ana Cortez.

Yelp
Summary: great food, great service, great view... what more can one want, especially as you wait for a ferry. Every miss a ferry? Thankfully, Orcas Hotel Café was open to host me after a long day of work. Joanna, the server, was kind enough to remember my name through my time there. The owner was working with a friendly attitude even on a Friday night. That really shows the kind of work environment you are being taken cared of here. The dinner special, the Filipino Kare-Kare was just what I needed at the end of the day. The meat was braised well with a good amount of marble. The portions were plenty. The experience made me feel thankful that I missed my ferry and spent another two hours on Orcas at the café. Cheers, James

Joel H.

Yelp
Love the changing seasonal menu here. It is a must stop anytime I am on Orcas. Love this place though

Daniel C.

Yelp
Breakfast is good, dining area is quaint and the view is nice. We had the breakfast sandwich, cinnamon roll and burrito on our first visit. Each item was more than enough for one person but hard to put down. Coffee was nice too. We had the burrito again on our second visit but wasn't as good as the first - different cook perhaps. Will definitely revisit next time on the island.
google avatar

Lledo E.

Yelp
Nice views, good food and literally next to the ferry terminal. The service was fast and the staff was polite.
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
TL;DR: check the bag before you get on the ferry to make sure all your food is there. 6/18/22: Decent food in a pinch; needed some last minute food to-go before the ferry. Cheeseburger was good, chicken sandwich was tasty, and the chicken tinga burrito was alright. Everything was Orcas Island priced which is expected. We ordered the chowder for our fourth person, but they didn't include it in the bag. Unfortunately we didn't open the bag prior to getting on the ferry and we had to adjust our food to make sure she got fed (have to feed the driver!!!) It's frustrating to shell out $16+ for a food item to not get it, and really inconvenience someone. I tried to call the number to see if I could get a partial refund, but the number was out of service.
google avatar

April S.

Yelp
Was thankful that this is one of the few places on the island that allows dogs in their outdoor seating areas and front lawn, and that had a beyond burger as a vegan option. Still, the food was quite mediocre and it was very expensive for three people, about $100.
google avatar

Josh P.

Yelp
Over priced . Starbucks has better breakfast. Bland and seems everything is just heated up when you order. Premake your meals prior to visiting this stop.
google avatar

Linda W.

Yelp
Eat here every time I come to a Orcas! Always something yummy on the menu from chef John or maybe Quinton this time around! Such a cozy room and an incredible view of the ferry landing. Love love love and can't recommend this place any more than I do!
google avatar

Jason P.

Yelp
Wow their breakfast burritos were outstanding. Really good coffee. They also had a burrito bowl option which looked delicious. We also had an order of beignets. They were fresh and light. Wow. I'd like to try the chocolate croissant. It was covered in ganache. It looked evil. Evil must be reckoned with.
google avatar

Monika E.

Yelp
My go to stop when Im waiting for the ferry. Great coffee and delicious pastries. Watch the ferries from the hotels outside patio. Under new ownership and they are doing a fantastic job! Will try their lunch menu next!

Ahndy ..

Yelp
We came here for lunch while waiting for our ferry. The view of the harbor was nice. The grilled cheese and tomato soup hit the spot. My partner is from Australia. He ordered their fish n' chips and said they were perfect. We will be back on our next visit.
google avatar

Jesena M.

Yelp
Not impressed at all, we ordered fish and chips and ended up with batter and chips. We had to heavily dig for the tiny pieces of fish hiding in a huge lump of greasy batter. Maybe other options on the menu are better, but I just expect a decent amount of fish when you are on the islands.
google avatar

Abby W.

Yelp
Don't not let the lower rating keep you from coming to this place!! It looks like they recently changed owners and the ratings lately have all been great - and totally well deserved!! We had the hamburger, quesadilla and fries. The burger was AMAZING - perfectly cooked. The fries were salty and crispy and delish. The quesadilla had so much flavor! It was all so good. Seriously trust us, EAT HERE!!!
google avatar

Ayesha M.

Yelp
I don't understand how this place isn't rated higher just for the excellent fish and chips I had yesterday. They may have been the best I have ever had -- better than any I have ever eaten in London. So, so good. The fries were also perfectly crisp. Excellent food. Highly recommend!! Can't wait to return!

Chris C.

Yelp
Trust me just don't go Very disappointed, prime rib Christmas dinner: one slice, over priced and over salted. 50$ for one slice of prime rib...
google avatar

Jackson T.

Yelp
This was a great place to grab lunch right off the ferry! We had the fish and chips and it was spectacular. Having visited during covid, you ordered inside and picked up your food at an outside window to eat outside. They had no problem with dogs in the outdoor dining area. It is an old hotel and is a fun into to the quaint island. Would definitely repeat.
google avatar

Grace G.

Yelp
Just driving up to the cafe, I was already in love! They're right along the water so they have a breathtaking view. The guy at the front desk was friendly and helpful with giving me their vegan options. The summer salad bowl was really more than we expected, it's a good size portion and definitely filling. My son loved his grilled cheese and cinnamon roll, my parents both had fish and chips, we shared 2 side orders of fries. It was tasty!
google avatar

Taryn R.

Yelp
Not a a lot gluten free options. I had a burrito made into a bowl .My partner enjoyed the food and my gluten free bowl was actually good

Mary R.

Yelp
We (Orcas Village Store) had our Christmas party here. The food and service were outstanding ! Appetizers were oysters, cheeses, foie Gras, deviled eggs, prawns -everything was yummy. Prime rib dinner included mashed potatoes, gravy, Yorkshire pudding, green beans. My husband was in heaven! Sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Great job Orcas Hotel and crew!
google avatar

Kim F.

Yelp
Literally the best service I've ever had in a hotel. We arrived as the ferry was delayed 2 hours. They offered to make us dinner, even though they were closed already. Our dinner was amazing. This was the best cheese sammie with tomato soap, ever! They didn't charge us for the food. Who does that these days? These are new owners who bought the hotel, one month before Covid crashed our world. We are staying in this quaint old hotel for a few days, and the view of the ferry terminal at night is beautiful. Please support these new owners and their new adventure in owning this hotel and cafe.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
If your early for the ferry save your money . Food will take a long time to be ready and it's nothing special . Give your order 30 minutes to be ready. They could be the only restaurant in the harbor which is why they probably can get away with an overpriced for a less than regular menu . I ordered food for pick up , maybe sit in would be different?
google avatar

Brittany R.

Yelp
June 17th 2020 John, Who I believe is the chef and owner, made our experience incredible! Best food my husband and I have had so far on the islands. I got the Carne Asada quesadilla!! Perfectly grilled peppers, cheese, and delicious meat, pickled veggies, and an incredible purple cabbage Salad! It was so flavorful I didn't need the salsa, sour cream, or squeeze of lime (I normally am someone who always always uses these!). I ordered the gin andd tonic with basil cocktail! It was perfect! Perfectly sweetened and flavorful My husband ordered the special of the day which was the lamb sandwich! Incredible! Made on foccocia bread, with mint and pesto, olives etc. soft flavorful lamb and a side of fries seasoned and cooked so well my husband said they didn't need any sauce and even tasted good lukewarm (which he said is very rare for fries). Along with his meal he ordered the locally handmade hard cider. He said it tasted like apple cider squeezed fresh and fermented, and not too sweet. John even makes fresh made to order donuts!! We got his cinnamon sugar donut holes - so fluffy and perfect! With so many employees being grumpy from COVID It was very refreshing to have such excellent customer service! We would come back to the island just to visit here again!!

Elide M.

Yelp
The food was too salty and they didn't let us enter to the bathroom even that we eat there and we had two kids that really needed to go...
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
This is the hotel where we stayed he first time to Orcas island and while the hotel says no smokin we had a puff on the balcony and were soon joined by our neighbors for a sesh. The tubs are huge.
google avatar

Doron K.

Yelp
Horrible service. Food to die for literally. Went for lunch with our kids and they wouldn't let us use the bathrooms. Don't tip don't even bother eat here.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
I got the Wednesday night special (which was Fennel Grilled Iberico Pork Secreto Steak with Garbanzo Bean and Sweet Corn Succotash) and it was DELICIOUS. If it had been socially acceptable I would have licked the plate clean
google avatar

Poornima B.

Yelp
Decent place which is probably the only restaurant right at the harbor. We ordered for biscuits and gravy and a bowl of oatmeal. The oatmeal came with fruits and sugar on the side. The biscuits and gravy were simple and tasted good. However they could do with some improvement on biscuits. If I can make better biscuits than a cafe/ restaurant it could mean two things either the establishment needs to up their game or am am amazing chef who could give them a run for their money which am not. Hence point proven. The service is ok. The two ladies are pleasant but ir took a while for the food to be brought out. The plates were on the table when we took a seat and she didn't remove them until we asked her to do so. But all in all I think despite having a small menu they have interesting options especially for lunch. The food however is pricey but am guessing that's the island read tourist rate

Chelsea F.

Yelp
Check the bag/ to go order before you leave, missing half our order and the meat in the quesadilla was left out. Service not good either.

Lynn S.

Yelp
The food is delicious- we tried all of the breakfast items - all delicious and really generous service sizes. The coffee is very tasty! The service is also very good and friendly
google avatar

Betsy P.

Yelp
Maybe its changed since these last reviews, but I just had a fantastic meal. We've been on the island for a few days and our last night is at the hotel. Had the best salmon sandwich and fish/chips so far on this whole vacation! Wonderful people here, attentive to the ferry travelers.

Carly B.

Yelp
The warm environment you feel upon entering the hotel is what gives it such a special charm. The food at the cafe is AMAZING. The sourdough bread is homemade from their own in-house sourdough starter, and it is the best bread you will ever eat. We asked for a few slices to take up to our room, and Quinn kindly toasted, buttered and salted to perfection! All-around a wonderful experience in a unique hotel rich in the history of Orcas Island.
