We were trying to remember the las time we were on Orcas Island , but the best we could do was between 5 and 10 years ago. Nonetheless, we remembered Orcas Island Winery, and wanted to check it out again. So happy we did! Nestled at the base of Turtleback Mountain in a barn-like structure, they have a lot to offer for a remote setting. They offer four tastes for $25, BUT each "taste" is a half-glass! They offer a fabulous selection of cheese, crackers, bread, olives, chocolates (SERIOUSLY good chocolate!) and more, but they do allow outside food with purchase.
The Francalicious Rose' is lightly effervescent, and a good expression of Rose'; we are bringing home a bottle. I also quite liked the Counoise, again, a very unique wine, good body and intriguing taste. However, I liked the 2017 Turtleback (66% Cab Sav, 22% Cab Franc, 7% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot) so much, we had to snag one of those as well.
I would give 4.5 stars if I could. So, why not 5 stars? Well, (good for them!) they were sold out of several wines I would have loved to try. And I wish they had a larger covered area outside. Finally, and I'm nitpicking, they have several picnic tables in a lower area; that space could be enhanced 100% by adding some bark chips.
Nonetheless, we WILL be back next time we are on Orcas Island!
