I'm in London a few times each year and I would always go to the Orc's Nest and buy something: I'd have been sad to see it gone so went out of my way to make a decent purchase each time.
This time is the first time in maybe a decade that I've not bought something. I struggled to get the attention of the staff, who were having a loud and prolonged political debate, facing inwards and away from the counters to do so. When I did get a moment, I asked if a game was available.
"Huh?" was the reply from the nearest of the three.
I repeated the question. I got a shake of the head, a grunt and a shrug. I took this to mean "no," and left the shop, leaving behind the £69.99 backup choice I had made.
They could easily have smiled, said "No, I'm sorry, I don't think so. But we do have game x that's in the same genre, that people love, can I get it for you to look at?" or something like that. I might not have bought it, but I would have bought *something* and would have made my regular pilgrimage, next time.
Instead, I suppose that I'll order direct from the publisher next time, or from Amazon: they may be a faceless conglomerate but they've never shrugged at me and grunted with annoyance at being distracted from their opinionating.
Edit: this was on Wednesday, late afternoon. The discussion was a long and very loud one on prison reform. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
