The OCC has it's pluses and it's minuses. As a guest, you tend to see the upsides. As an exhibitor, the downsides.
The ups: It's big, open, well-lit, and LEED certified. It has a vast array of rooms that can be transformed into anything. The huge open hallways and wide staircases allow for good traffic flow and convention center feng shui. While the exhibit spaces themselves are warehouse-esque and spartan, the rest of the space is A-OK. The amenities on site in terms of coffee or convenience stores are somewhat lacking, and the area of town it sits in is pretty sparse outside of chain food options, but overall, it serves its purpose. Proximity to the MAX and the Rose Quarter is a plus.
As an exhibitor, you tend to see the downsides. First, they nickel and dime you for everything. Want power at your booth? It'll cost you. Wanna use the wifi in the building, that'll be more than the average monthly charge for home broadband service. Would you like a trash can available while you're setting up your exhibit? Yeah... that would be nice, wouldn't it. (ha... did you find my setup refuse in the bathroom garbage can? What did you expect?!) Would you like to park anywhere near the loading area? It'll cost you. Did you pass out a sticker and someone stuck it on something? That's going to be some $$ for cleanup. Would you like to have a balloon at your booth? We don't allow those.
And on... and on...
Fortunately I've always been able to work my magic as far as things like power supply go (I make a deal with the parent exhibitor), and I have Verizon broadband so I don't need their Wifi, but when things that are otherwise already on (like Wifi) and don't cost more the more that use them (like Wifi) get charged for, that's when I start getting annoyed. Water, power, whatever... I get it. The more I use, the more it costs. But charging for wifi? That's miserly.
Anyway, tangential rants aside, for what this space is, it delivers. If it would go the extra distance, like, for instance, the PDX airport does, and add in things like Wifi (that don't cost the OCC any extra to provide since they're already paying for it), then I would be inclined to consider it better than just A-OK.
