Bay Area Restaurant and Bar Closures to Know in November 2024 - Eater SF

"Farewell to Orechi Ramen, which served steaming bowls of tonkotsu ramen, tan tan noodles, and more to Santa Clara for 17 years. The restaurant’s owners did not elaborate on the reasons for the closure." - Justine Jones

11 Essential Ramen Shops in San Jose and the South Bay - Eater SF

"In a modest Santa Clara strip mall, you’ll find Orenchi, a Japanese restaurant specializing in ramen and small bites. Though it can get busy, customers who make it off the waitlist tend to gravitate toward bar seating to get closer to the action. The shop offers a comprehensive menu of ramen and izakaya staples. Though Orenchi is most well-known for classic tonkotsu, you can’t go wrong with the lighter shio and shoyu options, and the tsukemen is also another popular choice. The duo of ramen and karaage is always a hit." - Paolo Bicchieri, Cathy Park

A solid Japanese ramen noodle restaurant. It used to be very popular with lines out the door. We got there before noon on a Saturday and the restaurant was about half full. It took a while to get the noodles served but the food was still good. Noodles tasted like they were made at the restaurant, with a chewy al dente texture. The broth is very flavorful. Price is on the higher end compared to the newer Japanese ramen places nearby in Cupertino. The takoyaki (octopus balls) were delicious as well.

I went here for dinner on Friday night at 6:30 with a friend. There wasn’t a line so we were able to get a spot right away, despite not making a reservation. I had the orenchi ramen which was pretty good, although the pork was fairly thick and it took a bit of work to cut it into mouth size bites with my chopsticks. The atmosphere was pretty nice and the food came out very quickly which was nice. Overall, it’s a fairly standard ramen place and I enjoyed going here.

Google
Spicy tomato Ramen was a amazing and soothing ramen to try! You can add spicy miso on a side for extra spicy cravings. I felt fried egg plant was too oily. Their sauces were good. Overall I enjoyed Ramen! Staffs were friendly!

Google
Came here after reading tons of ravishing reviews, but was pretty disappointed. Thought the ramen was good, but not anything special or amazing. The noodles were good but didn't have the best chew to them. As for the broth it was good, but I found most of the flavour came from the garlic oil. Definitely a good spot but not the best.

Google
We came on a Wednesday afternoon right after they opened for dinner service. The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly and sat us immediately. We each ordered a different ramen bowl and shared a chicken karaage. The karaage came out fresh and piping hot! Great flavor! Our ramen came out as ordered even though we tweaked the order slightly for each of our own preferences, the order came out correct snd timely. The ramen was great, not too heavy or salty. Sometimes after eating at some ramen places I feel so thirsty and sluggish because the broth can be too salty or too rich. This was perfect. They have generous portions and I was not able to finish all of the food, but left very fulfilled and satisfied. I will be back for more!

Google
Been going here occasionally since it opened years back. Lines have gotten better, depends on when, but can still be long. Presentation and taste continue to be great, well-balanced and has depth. Orenchi ramen, 4.5*, spicy miso, 4.5*, Takoyaki 5*, geso Kara 4*. Will continue to return during the best times to avoid long wait time.

Got the 3pc karage and small salad to share. I appreciate that they have smaller portions! I thought the salad was supposed to have chashu but it came with tofu cubes instead, which was a bummer (maybe I misread that small size is tofu or they made a mistake). I got the shio ramen, which was good but pretty average - not sure if it's worth $17.80 💸

Google
You cannot make reservation online. So we went there on a Friday night and waited for about 30 minutes. The food is about average. The Romain especially the Curry Tantan one is too salty for me. The waitress is pretty nice. But they don’t have hot water at all in the restaurant. so I would say overall an average experience.

Yelp
This was a very casual ramen spot my friends and family would go to a few years ago. I'm glad I was able to visit Orenchi Ramen right before they officially closed down. What I ordered: - Takoyaki: I ordered this to share with a friend and it came out piping hot! This was more on the softer side and had a good amount of octopus filled in the middle. - Shoyu Ramen: Broth was light and not heavily salted like other restaurants. The noodles were also cooked well and had a good chew to them. The bowl had a good balance of ingredients and didn't feel overwhelming.

Yelp
A Bittersweet Goodbye to Orenchi Ramen - From Sunnyvale to Los Altos Hills For years, Orenchi Ramen in Sunnyvale stood as a shining beacon for authentic Japanese ramen in the South Bay. The wait was long--often an hour or more--but we gladly endured it. Why? Because it was worth every minute. The tonkotsu broth was silky, rich, and layered with flavor, the kind of bowl that warmed your soul and made you feel like you'd stepped off the plane at Narita. It wasn't just about the food--it was the experience. The lively energy of the packed dining room, the rhythmic music pulsing overhead, the attentive servers who never missed a beat--it all came together to create something uniquely special. Even Michelin took notice, recommending the spot for several years in a row. Sadly, that chapter has closed. The original Sunnyvale location has permanently shut its doors. Orenchi has since reappeared in Los Altos Hills, but in a very different form: tucked inside a food court. What was once a full-on restaurant experience has now been reduced to a counter-service stall. And it shows. I recently visited the new location with high hopes, but the experience left me... disappointed. The signature Orenchi Tonkotsu Ramen--once the crown jewel--is no longer the same. The broth was lukewarm, thick, and overly salty. It lacked the smooth, velvety richness it used to have. The soul of the bowl feels lost, like a faded memory of what once was. What's more, the pricing doesn't quite match the new venue. For a food court setting, the cost is surprisingly high--especially considering the diminished quality and lack of atmosphere. It makes me wonder if Orenchi will be able to survive in a Bay Area landscape that's rapidly being filled with internationally renowned ramen chains, many of which are opening locations across San Francisco and the peninsula. Back when good ramen was hard to find, Orenchi felt like a secret worth sharing. Today, with competition rising and standards climbing, that same ramen no longer holds the weight it once did. It saddens me to say this, but Orenchi's new location just doesn't live up to its former glory. Still, I'll always have fond memories of those nights in Sunnyvale--waiting in line with friends, flipping through the menu in anticipation, and tasting one of the best bowls of ramen this side of the Pacific. But maybe... some things are meant to be remembered, not recreated.

Yelp
Food: - Original Orenchi ramen - Good. Reasonable portion size and toppings, but I probably would not have been full without the karage side. Decent broth but not the most flavorful. - Chicken Karage - Good. Crispy and moistly cooked thigh chicken pieces. The coating seems kind of like cornflakes style. The dipping sauce tasted like plain mayo, nothing interesting to differentiate. - Hot sake - Good. Service: Good. Service was reasonably fast. I ordered hot saki, and it was brought last after all the food items. Karage was brought after the ramen even though it's an appetizer. Weird ordering of service. Ambiance/Vibe: Good. Japanese theme decor, nothing memorable. Cost/Value: Good. On par with most ramen places in the area. Visit again? Maybe. There's better ramen places in the area.

Yelp
I'm surprised that this restaurant was not more packed. My family and I were happy with the food and experience here. We were politely welcomed by the staff and we got seated at the large center table. Many restaurants these days have small tables to the point where you are afraid that your dish might get knocked off the table, but the table here was spacious and comfortable to eat at. I cannot eat a lot of ramen due to health conditions, so I ordered their Salmon Ikura Gohan. It was listed as a small bowl, but it really filled me up and satisfied my palate for just $12. All the ingredients were so fresh. The rice could have been a bit softer, but overall the dish was so delectable and the salmon melted in my mouth. The thick soy sauce on the side was the perfect embellishment. We also ordered karage, and it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The portion sizes were large for the karage, too. My whole party had compliments for it. The interior of the restaurant was clean and the walls were decorated with anime. It was a clean and comfy spot and one of the ramen restaurants I actually like in the bay.

Yelp
Food: I was expecting a lot from this place due to the hype but I honestly wasn't impressed. I ordered the Donabe Spicy Miso Ramen, Karaage Chicken, and Gyoza. Broth for the ramen was watered down and tasted like it would be better the next day. The egg noodles were good though but didn't have that wow factor that I was expecting. Karaage Chicken had a nice crunch to it but was a bit on the dry side. The Gyoza Wars perfectly cooked and came with a very flavorful sauce that tasted like it can go on anything. I DEFINITELY recommend this! This made the place a 3 star for sure. I'm glad that I tried this place but I unfortunately won't be back again. Ambiance: Clean inside and out. Staff was friendly when you arrive but didn't pay too much attention to you once you sat down. Sometimes can be a good or bad thing. Touching tables is always key when you are a server though. Parking: Plenty of parking in front of the business and shopping center.

Yelp
It's true that there's no more waiting lines, I went at 6pm and was seated immediately. However, noodles have gone down in quality. The broth seemed to be less thick and tasted less flavorful, this has been orenchi's biggest advantage. It doesn't feel very satisfied as always. Price wise moderate rise still given it more expensive than very good AYCE places like Gen Korean BBQ (for lunch) etc. I have been to ramen dojo just a couple weeks ago and they have improved in flavor (stronger). Seems other ramen places needed a revision too.

Yelp
We ate here recently with my sister and her family after a long absence. I've forgotten how good their ramen is. The wait time used to be so long but we didn't have to wait at all this time. We went on a Saturday night, right at opening, and got seated right away. With the proliferation of ramen places in the Bay Area, hopefully ridiculous amounts of wait time are a thing of the past. For our apps, we all shared the Karaage and Calamari. Both were great but I was so surprised how good the calamari was. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Most places overcook the calamari but Orenchi didn't. So good! I would totally order that again. Hubby and I both had the Orenchi Ramen but I had mine spicy. Ramen was exceptional too. Service was great and the tables are nicely spaced and not too crowded. I would totally love to return and have more of the calamari. I'm still thinking about it months later. Lucky for me this place is not far from my sister's house, so we can always stop by before or after a visit to my sister's.

Yelp
After all these years I finally made it here! The service is fast and friendly. The food is solid ... the pork gyoza was juicy, tender and flavorful. The accompanied sauce has the perfect amount of tang / tart from yuzu that makes it addicting. I ordered the traditional ramen and while it looks small... it's filling. The soft boiled egg was wonderfully jammy and the pork slices were generous. If you are a fan of nori/seaweed, there was only once portion so you may want to add another in. We were fortunate to beat the dinner crowd as we arrived right when it opened. It started filling up rapidly though.

Yelp
"Orenchi's pain Is foodies' gain." No more waitlists, lines or headaches. What was once the Bay's hottest ramen shop has lost its hype. All that's left is an excellent bowl of noodles. And it's quite a simple bowl at that, with only essential components executed flawlessly. The syrupy egg yolk and paradoxically light tonkotsu broth proclaim Orenchi's proficiency in a very understated, very Japanese way. Service is efficient and polite. Plenty of seating since everyone is lining up at Nagi. Nostalgic J-pop playing in the background. True score: 9.1 / 10 Return? YES

Yelp
Orenchi is one of the ones that started the Bay Area "Ramen-craze", oh so many years ago - 15 years ago. The perfect sous vide egg with a creamy yoke, not overcooked that other places. Delicious thick broth and chewy bouncy ramen. It has been a while since I've last been here. They remodeled over 2 years ago. Before, it was a traditional restaurant, clean, modern decor, and simple where it was frequented by Japanese businessmen, most of the clients were speaking in Japanese. Now, the remodel has updated the place into a hip, trendy, anime- themed restaurant, but the layout is more for a quick dine and dash. Also geared for more single diners. Just my opinion. The service was friendly and polite.

Yelp
Went to Orenchis since they were open for dinner. It appears that they closed in between lunch and Dinner. After seeing how many reviews Orenchi's received I was really eager to try them. I got the pork ramen with a size of gyoza and chicken. I honestly was not very impressed with the ramen and broth. I have had a lot better and it just did WOW me. The gyoza and chicken on the other hand were very tasty. The chicken was a great mix of crispy and juicy. The gyoza was very fresh tasting and had an amazing side sauce. Customer service was just okay, not very engaged and ambiance was bland. I don't really recommend this spot, there are a lot of better options.

Yelp
We have heard a lot about this place, but never had a chance to go there. Today was a perfect day for us to go try Ramen, because it was raining cold, and the weather was just perfect for the Ramen. The parking lot is always full so try to get there early and park your car. This is a very small place but extremely popular so you can expect long lines and there's no reservations. The moment you get into this place, you will get a vibe of a traditional Japanese Ramen place with people running around, trying to serve as fast as possible. We've tried a bunch of stuff I don't have pictures of them like fried chicken and rice balls. But our favorite has been traditional pork broth, Ramen. I'm going that again and try a lot of other stuff. This is the best place so far close to my house.

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant a couple times before and tried their original orenchi ramen so decided to get the oyakodon this time. Taste-wise it's fantastic, however the portions are a bit small for the price. The oyakodon was $18.5 and even a petite girl like myself was still hungry after finishing. There are both indoor and outdoor seatings so we didn't have to wait!

Yelp
Heard a ton about this place, but came in on a Monday night and there was no line and only a few patrons so that was a nice surprise. Parking is plenty in this strip mall location, but I'm sure this place can get busy on a weekend given the other businesses that share the same parking lot. Started with an order of the fried shrimp and gyoza. The shrimp was good and had a sweet sauce on it, but the gyoza was just ok. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen in a large and it was quite a bit of food. The only difference between the small and the large is more noodles and broth. This was good and the flavor was nice, but the star of the show was the soft egg, perfectly done! Service was prompt, but tapered off towards the end as I had to go looking for someone for a to go container. They also brought the bill prior to the party being done eating so felt a tad rushed. I do agree with some of the other comments that this place is good, but there are other specialty ramen locations that are better.
google avatar

Elaine G.

Yelp
Sadly This used to be my go to ramen spot with absurd lines but now i find it as just ok. It's still a solid ramen spot but there are a number of other specialty ramen spots that given similar wait times that I would prefer. Some pros: Chicken ramen available for those who don't eat pork (though the broth may be made using pork) Different size bowls available Can order extra noodles if you're extra hungry Shorter lines (at least when I went) Service is helpful Water available at the table Cons Noodles aren't what I remember :( Broth isn't quite the same either.. maybe an off day?

Yelp
My partner mentioned Orenchi a few times in the past, but I've never gotten the chance to try it out until today. I wasn't particularly hungry, but my partner was. We ended up arriving at Orenchi before opening time on Juneteenth, and contrary to what my partner thought, there was no line! He mentioned that there was always a long wait when he first tried it, and I can totally see why after giving this place a try. I guess this place is still quite popular around here since there were a couple small groups waiting before opening time. My partner ordered The Original "Orenchi Ramen". It comes with two pieces of chasui, green onions, some bamboo shoots, mushroom, an egg, seaweed, and some sesame seeds. He ordered a bowl of extra noodles, and I asked him to order an extra egg for me. For myself, I got the Salmon Ikura Gohan. And we also shared a 3-piece Karaage, Fried Shishito, and Agedashi Tofu & Eggplant Tempura. The egg I got has one of the most vibrant orange yolk I've ever seen in a ramen bowl around the Bay. A little runny, warm, and tasty when paired with a bit of ramen broth. It was perfection. The Agedashi Tofu was warm, silky, and soft. The outer layer was coming off a bit because it's been soaking in the sauce for a bit, but still a delicious slab of tofu. I did prefer the Eggplant Tempura over the tofu though. The eggplant tempura has a very light batter to it so it was just slightly crispy (the parts not submerged under sauce). It was generous in portion and meaty too. Because the dish itself is made warm, the fresh grated yam (I think) paired well with the ingredients of the dish. As for the Karaage? Also very generous portion wise. I thought 3 piece would be a small appetizer, but these are big pieces of chicken. They're so juicy, and again, the outer batter was thin and crispy. It paired really well with a bit of lemon and the spicy dipping sauce. I thought the Shishito pepper we got was good too, but my least favorite of the appetizers. It doesn't stand out as much as the other appetizers does, but still okay. It's like playing roulette because you don't know if you'll get a spicy one or not, and some of them were pretty spicyyyy. They gave a lot of peppers, so that was a plus to the dish. I think this dish did come out a little oilier than I liked (I know it's fried). As for my main dish - the Salmon Ikura Gohan! This was supposed to be a small bowl, but it was absolutely filling. You get 3 small pieces of smokey, just-cooked, juicy salmon. And a lot of mouth-popping, deliciously-fun, Ikura. You also get to add soy sauce if you like. It was a comforting bowl of rice. Even though I didn't get a bowl of ramen that they're known for, I did sample my partner's bowl of ramen and it was absolutely delicious as well! The extra side of noodles don't come with broth, so I sampled it as is, and it has a pretty obvious eggy flavor to it. With the broth, the ramen is thick, grabs onto broth well, and chewy. Next time we're back I'll probably go for the Tsukemen if it's still in season.

Yelp
We came here for lunch today and it was an enjoyable experience. We got here soon after the place opened so there was no wait. This was my first time in this restaurant and only my second time eating ramen. Our waiter was really nice and he helped me customize my bowl. I really like the chicken based ramen that I had. I ordered a small bowl and I couldn't finish it. The portions are huge here. The food and service here were great and I will come back again.

Yelp
Not bad but also not good :O We came for a Saturday lunch and our group of 6 got sat down in the middle of the restaurant. The chairs are really shaky and kind of low. We ordered a bunch of medium Orenchi Ramen (3/5 - soup was ok but super oily and the meat was hard and rough & they forgot an egg for one of the bowls) and one with the Spicy Miso (2/5 - this was not what we expected at all because it tasted like a Chinese spicy & tomato/vinegary & was an extra $1).

Yelp
This place is fantastic. I love the tofu, appetizer with crisp, chili, seeds, and sauce and chives. It is so flavorful. The Ramen had the right amount of spice and the meat and egg were cooked perfectly. I love that all our dishes were satisfying for everyone that had dinner here. I tried the Japanese melon soda also and it had a pretty color green and it was so good, they also make their own noodles Service was fast and friendly. I definite will be back again and again

Yelp
If you like fatty ramen tonkatsu broth, this place is for you. Orenchi has always been the OG ramen restaurant that my friends and I went to years ago. My friend and I went on a Saturday night when indoor dining was starting to open. Parking was easy, and the wait was about 15-20 minutes. We ordered the orenchi (tonkatsu) ramen. I added the spicy miso to mine, which is a must if you like spice. My friend got the large which was extra noodles and broth. I felt like the food came out pretty slow, and thankfully, everything was good. The takoyaki were perfectly crisp--I just wish the octopus pieces inside were bigger. Also, the price for these are pretty steep. It was a little over $7 whereas I feel like other places are closer to $5. The ramen is suuuper fatty. The noodles are the thicker ones, and I felt like they were slightly more al dente than I would like. Lastly, the egg was jammy, which I prefer more than the runny type.
google avatar

Francis T.

Yelp
This place has nice fatty and tasty broth for their ramen. I like the food and they added everything with it. There was a lot bamboo shoots, a very nice color in their egg, nori, and pork. There definitely things that can be improved on, the ramen noddles felt like instant ramen noodles and the pork definitely coulda had more flavor. The service was great though, it was fast and the servers were friendly. They checked up here and there too refilled water. You can also ask for chili oil or powder if you like. The place is still under construction, but there's anime decorations and a modern light wood feel to the place.
google avatar

Liz P.

Yelp
I hate to say it but the quality has gone down. I've been here maybe 5 times. My last visit wasn't as good as my first 3. The chashu was thin and floppy. I couldn't believe it. It didn't taste the same as I remember it. My takoyaki was good. I don't think I will come back.
google avatar

Manning L.

Yelp
OMG. Loved coming back here after not coming here during the covid shutdown. The soup is still excellent with great flavor, the right savoriness, and texture. The chicken and calamari were just right. Liked the agedashi tofu also!
google avatar

Kristine J.

Yelp
not sure what it is... def not the same anymore :( tried the tonkotsu and shoyu. both lacking in flavor. but shoyu was def better. noodles were still good though. egg was delicious. another thing was we ordered two appetizers. ramen came out before second app got to our table :/ my brother wanted to try salmon carpacchio. it was ok. staff was super nice though.
google avatar

Karen J.

Yelp
The decor in this restaurant is really cool. They have a center "bar" seating area and the walls have pictures of Japanese pop culture icons. Definitely recommend stopping by just to take a look at the interior design The wait for this place has also dramatically improved since the pandemic. During the pandemic, I remember seeing long lines of people and was too intimidated to go in. Now, when I arrive during normal dining hours, there's a fairly short wait (max for me was 10 min) before a waiter would escort my party to a table. I highly recommend the donabe spicy miso. It's not too spicy for spice lovers but it has really good depth of flavor. The broth is a little salty for my liking but tastes really good with the pork.
google avatar

Nessa R.

Yelp
I haven't been to orenchi in so long but I do remember that they've always had good ramen. Coming back to try them out years later, I tried their La Casa Mia ramen(not sure if it was a collab dish with the restaurant next door) and their veggie curry. I loved both dishes and the service was friendly and super attentive. I'm guessing they turn tables around so quickly the place never looks super super busy which we appreciated.
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
The ramen was delicious and the service was great despite the rush. Will be coming back many more times. Highly recommend everyone to try it out
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
Orenchi Ramen was a bit of a letdown, meriting only two stars from me. I enjoyed the ambiance and the decorative comic wallpaper. But even with a small empty restaurant, service was slow off the mark - it took a while to get water, and it seemed like our table was forgotten shortly after being seated. The waiter did offer an apology but the oversight was noticeable. On the plus side, our food arrived fairly quickly, but then there was another slip-up: I asked for my my soda float to come out with my meal but was forgotten and didn't come out with our meal. I had the staff cancel the soda float since I was practically finished with my food, which was also salty.
google avatar

Alex V.

Yelp
I came here to try the Karaage and the Shoyu ramen (even though they are known for the tonkatsu). The karaage was VERY good, but the ramen left a lot to be desired. It had two pieces of chicken breast that weren't even seasoned, so I'll have to come back to try the original ramen
google avatar

Ron P.

Yelp
I got the Orenchi Ramen and did not look carefully enough at the menu to realize the kakuni pork belly meat would be a huge chunk. The meat was actually pretty tough to eat and the ramen was very very mediocre as well. Was a little disappointed as this place was so highly rated, but maybe it was a bad day or I just chose the wrong item.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Ahhh. We decided to eat here tonight *before* we checked the Yelp reviews. But I did check after we ordered. Uh oh, not so great. (A 3.8 as I write this.) My wife and daughter got two Ramens, the Original and Spicy one. Left side of the menu, top and bottom. They did like them. To be a contrarion, I got the Karage fried chicken, and an Orenchi salad. A salad is a salad, but there was spinach and corn in there, and the dressing was good. I'm saving the best part for last. The Karage fried chicken was actually shockingly good. Moist not dry, just quite simply: perfectly cooked. A real treat. I did not expect it to be as good as it was. A Fri night, not so crowded, and good service. We'll be back ...

Yelp
Ramen is probably one of my fave things to eat! I had Orenchi a few years back, but never got a chance to review. I'm glad I came back because it was so satisfying and delicious! I came on a Sunday evening and there was no wait!! The ambiance of the restaurant is so cute, and it gives you a Japan feel. The service is really quick and food came out super fast! I typically order the Orenchi ramen (Tonkatsu broth) with chashu. It also comes with the toppings such as mushroom, bamboo shoots, and my favorite the soft boiled egg. Noodles are cooked to perfection, and the flavor of the broth is on point. The oil is not too much, and I think majority of the oil comes from the meat. You also have the option to make it spicy either in the broth or spice on the side. We also got Karagge and it was also super delish! This spot is definitely in my top 3 of favorite ramen spots in the Bay Area.

Christine D.

Yelp
Came on a Friday after work and was happy to find there was no line. My friend and I were seated immediately. We both got the Orenchi Ramen. There was a thick cut of pork in each bowl. The egg was perfectly soft boiled. The broth was rich and almost oily. It was a good bowl of ramen.

Kristen J.

Yelp
The service and ambiance of the restaurant is lovely. I loved the menu options as they were very diverse. We started out with the takoyaki, which was hot and tasty! I recommend this appetizer. As for the ramen, the ingredients were lovely. The egg was perfectly sold boiled and I loved the noodles. However, the broth was quite salty and needed to be diluted in my opinion. This is not to say it was not flavorful, it was just a little too salty for my liking. Overall wonderful food!

Yelp
This use to be the TOP ramen shop in the area back when I was in college (2011-ish) era but competition in the ramen space now is pretty intense. It was a nice blast from the past to come back again but the times where you have to line up super early and wait multiple hours for it are definitely gone. Pro's: 1.) No wait, decent Ramen (good broth and egg). 2.) Appetizers are still really good. (Love the Orenchi Salad and Karaage) 3.) Service is attentive and food came out fast. 4.) They converted a big portion of the restaurant to a large square which is good for single's to eat. Con's: 1.) It's pretty pricey ($19 for a bowl of Ramen) and portion size is small compared to the price you pay. 2.) Tap water here tastes really weird. Not sure why I think overall it's still a decent place to go for Ramen but it's no longer at the S-tier of the Ramen game anymore.

Yelp
One of my favorite ramen places. I was so happy when they first open years ago. Before that I had to go to San Mateo for a good bowl of ramen but now it's 5 minute drive. It's been a few years since I last visited, so when wife said she wants ramen for dinner, we decided to give it a shot. We arrived right after they opened at 5:30, so were seated right away. I noticed the interior had a little change. I remember they used to have counter space and you get to watch them cook your ramen, but now that space was converted to more seating area. I guess that makes sense given how popular it gets during busy hours. We ordered the original Orenchi Ramen, one with spicy miso, one without and side of Karaage. After a short wait, our food came out. The Karaage was crunchy outside yet tender inside, very good. The broth and the noodle were both outstanding, the one with spicy miso came with a bit of kick, perfect. I am not a big fan of hard boiled egg, but I do like the running yolk. I am happy to report that the Orenchi ramen still serves up excellent ramen like it used to. I will sure be coming back and try other selections on the menu.

Yelp
2.5 stars A girls date, we wanted something soup based so we can here to Orenchi for some Ramen based off of amount of reviews & stars we thought we were in for a treat :(. We got: - TonkTonkotsu Ramen: portion was small. Broth was salty. Overall, the whole bowl was mid. For the price, I was expecting something yummier... The egg also tasted like a Bao Bun.. anyways Service was quick but the food wasn't good.. I definitely would skip out on this place..

Yelp
Not busy on Mon night around 7pm. I like the Japanese artwork on the walls and anime under the wood paneling. It's a cool vibe. Ordered the Donabe Spicy Miso, i think that's the seasonal special. I wanted something spicy. The original Orenchi we also ordered. I liked the Orenchi broth more than the spicy miso, but i enjoyed the spiciness and meat in the Donabe Spicy Miso. My ramen was very temperature hot! So i couldnt eat it that quickly. I liked how it comes with an egg and veggies. For the price i think the ramen was just decent. I like another place better tho. Too many ramen places around this area so don't think i'd b back. Service was also lackluster, waitress did not seem happy with her life and gave off negative vibes.

Yelp
There are so many ramen places but not all of them are equal. Orenchi is definitely better than most of them out there. The Orenchi ramen probably has one of the best broth out there, I drank every drop of it. The portion is kind of small though so l I'll probably spend a few extra bucks next time to get the large one. The egg was not as runny as I expected, it does taste good. The fries are ok though I am glad they have something for the kids and put a Japanese spin to it. The fried chicken is very good and came super hot. We also had the seasonal spicy ramen (can't remember the name). It's pretty spicy but again very good. This one has more meat than the Orenchi ramen. The dinning area is a big square with tables on the outside and a small square in the middle with chairs around it. Service was ok. Be sure to put your name down when you get to the restaurant to get seated. If you like good ramen, go check this place out. And make sure you put a little garlic sauce in your ramen.

Yelp
Orenchi had a nice cozy spot and tolerated our fussy toddler. I got the vegan spicy curry udon. There was also some kind of vegan beef crumbles which was yummy. The noodles are very sponge and yummy. The baby got Agadaahi tofu with eggplant tempura style. Everything was awesome!

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night at 7pm and there was a little bit of wait (although they had plenty of tables available). We checked in on the iPad and waited for the hostess to call our name. This was a little old school since most places will text you when your table is ready or let you do Yelp waitlist. Menu was simple and you have your different ramen choices based on broth, tsukemen, donburi, and etc. We ordered the fried calamari legs for an appetizer and it was a lot better than we were expecting! It had a nice crisp to it and were decently sized (we were expecting little baby legs). The sauce had a little kick to it too. I ordered the tsukemen and in my opinion, I liked it better than the regular ramen bowls. The egg was a little over cooked where it was almost hard boiled instead of soft boiled. The soup was delicious and not too hearty. It was an extra $1 for spicy miso but I wish they let you alter the spice levels for each item. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff. Clean environment. Nice ambiance. There's bar dining or regular tables.

Yelp
One of my aunt's favourite ramen place to go to after returning home from a trip. They serve more than ramen of course but they have deliciois variety of delicious food here, from sashimi, sushi to ramen soup you will not go hungry. If you haven't tried, do stop by and enjoy the food and wall art decor Photos compliments from my aunt.

Yelp
You gotta show some respect to the OG, but the reality is Orenchi is a shell of its former self, and with more and more ramen spots popping up in the Bay Area, I don't see this place remaining here very much longer. Ramen is one of the few things my girlfriend likely won't reject, and she was the one that made plans to come here, and my my -- has it gone downhill. The quality of the noodles. The flavor of the meat... it's all not what it used to be. The broth is also VERY salty. I don't know why this place even has a wait anymore. Again, there are many places in the bay to have a solid bowl of ramen, and Orenchi is not even in the top 5 anymore. It makes me sad.

Yelp
First time coming here and it was great Thankfully our wait was not too long! We were the 4th party on the waiting list so it was about a 25 minute wait. We ordered the fries appetizer, Orenchi ramen and Shio ramen and both were delicious! I was expecting more meat with my ramen but it's okay. The overall presentation and quality were there. Service: very good! They don't check up on you but they tell you in the beginning to flag them down to order and if we needed anything Ambiance: modern style with hints of Japanese influence. I like how the walls have photographs of different animes! The bar area was in the middle and was square shaped. I would totally recommend this place!

Yelp
Walked in on MLK holiday and was seated quickly. We ordered chicken karaage and 2 pork tonkatsu ramen. The chicken was crispy and flavorful. It came with mayo and spicy mayo. Then our ramen bowls came, we took one bite and it didn't seem like what we ordered. When checking with the server, we had a miscommunication and she ordered us the shoyu ramen instead of tonkatsu. She took the shoyu bowls away and had the kitchen make the tonkatsu "asap." It came out in less than 6 minutes. Our server then packaged then the shoyu soup for us to take home - I will say she even separated the noodle from the broth! Honestly the food was a solid 4 stars . Broth was deep and had layers of flavors and noodles had a great texture and bit to it. The service, despite the misunderstanding is a solid 5 stars

Yelp
People think it's crazy how I never tried Orenchi since I live in San Jose, but I finally got a chance to try it this past weekend. I ended up trying the Orenchi ramen, which I heard is usually a popular choice that everyone gets. It's a pork soup base with green onion, bamboo shoot, mushroom, chashu pork, boiled egg, seaweed, and sesame seed. I've read in reviews that this tends to be salty, but it's wasn't so salty imo. I thought everything was good, but nothing amazing where I would be dying to come back. The way they cooked their egg was pretty yummy too with the ramen. I also liked how the broth was creamy but not too much where it could be overwhelming. Overall, I'm glad I was able to try Orenchis finally. The service was great, I have no complaints. Food was decent. I liked how they had anime decor on the walls, which I thought was cool. I wouldn't be in a rush to come back as the food was good but a bit expensive to my liking for what it was.

Yelp
I went for the first time and felt generally underwhelmed after reading the reviews declaring this place as a top contender. What you have to consider is how long ago those glowing reviews were written and what the latest reviews suggest: this place dropped in quality. I came here with a friend that had visited prior to the pandemic. He noted without any hesitation that his ramen no longer had the wow factor he once recalled. I had the tan tan ramen and I'm not sure what the restaurant thinks is "spicy" because this isn't it. Good ramen places usually don't hold back. A reasonable level of heat can make the nose run a little while still being enjoyable down to the last noodle. The ramen itself was fine. The texture was perfectly chewy and slurpable. The flavor of the broth was good. I wouldn't describe the salt level offensive like some other reviews suggest. It seems like there is plenty of competition now but luckily Orenchi has garnered tons of positive reviews from the past to counter the recent and more relevant assessments their once loyal fans have left. I don't expect the 4 star average to remain if they can't figure out what has gone wrong in their formula. I am usually skeptical when someone tells me a place has long lines. It can mean the food is worth the hype OR the staff is not efficient. Staff was friendly and I didn't have to wait long for a table (probably because we went right at opening). This is really more of a 3.5 since this was my first time although my friend (local) has stated he will not return unless he sees reviews dramatically improve.

Yelp
I've heard good things about Orenchi and decided it was finally time to give it a try! What was ordered: + Orenchi ramen - The soup was piping hot, just the way I like it! The broth wasn't as thick or creamy as I was expecting and it didn't have a very strong pork broth flavor, which was a little disappointing. The soft boiled egg - PERFECT. The chashu - TENDER. + Takoyaki - The flavor was there but the texture wasn't the best. I do prefer my takoyaki's a little crispy on the outside but overall these were all soft. + Karaage - These were pretty good. They were fried well and the spicy mayo sauce really kicked it up a notch! + Geso Kara (fried calamari legs) - I wouldn't say I would definitely order this again, but it wasn't bad. Nothing about it truly stood out but if you're a fan of calamari legs this would be good for you. The service was great! They were very attentive to us and the food came out pretty quick. Overall, I would come back if I was craving for some ramen because it's close by and the ramen itself was pretty good. The appetizers didn't really stand out for me, which is why I gave the 3 stars.

Yelp
tldr: South Bay ramen staple. Definitely check it out for solid classics and great appetizers. This is a great ramen place! I was in the area and found this place on Yelp. It had good ratings, so I knew we had to check it out. It was fairly crowded when we came in, and we added our names to a list. They have some place inside where you can wait. We only waited about 10 minutes before being seated, but that's because it was a weekday. I think the safest bet is to make a reservation in advance. We ordered the Takoyaki for the appetizer. It was good! I've never had anything like it before. Takoyaki is a fried, crispy ball that's filled with octopus. It's rich and flavorful, so I highly recommend it. For the main dish, I got the Orenchi Ramen. I always like trying a restaurant's signature ramen if they offer one. They ask how spicy you want it beforehand, so I got mine spicy. It was delicious! It's always nice when they actually prepare the broth to be spicy rather than you just mixing in sauces.
