This was a takeout order and, while we were too tired for extended human interaction at the time, the restaurant looked like a place I'd like to dine in. Our food was ready about five minutes before schedule and brought out by the host with a smile.
After a larger lunch, we went a bit lighter here for dinner. My wife enjoyed a small miso soup to start. It was well seasoned, pleasantly warm, and I don't think there was a drop left when she finished. She had the Orenji Dragon roll, which was tasty. It wasn't as crunchy as she expected for a roll with shrimp tempura, but did have a decent mix of tastes and textures. I tried one of the rolls as well and it was good, but not standout. It's the type of roll I enjoy, but wouldn't reorder if that makes sense. It's tasty but somehow not memorable and I wouldn't drive past other sushi places to get it again. That being said, it was my wife's meal (not mine!) and she finished with a smile.
I had the shoyu ramen and was very happy. The broth and toppings were separate, which is standard for takeout ramen, but I still appreciate. It was fantastic and I don't know that I'd change a thing. The broth was rich, smooth, and tasty. The chasu pork was tender and flavorful. The egg was firm, with a yolk the texture of custard. The only disappointment for me was that I was using a hotel teaspoon instead of a proper ramen spoon and I can't hold that against Orenji! I've been looking for a good ramen place on the eastside for a few years, after being disappointed by several other restaurants. I think I'd try the Tonkotsu, 5 Alarms, or Spicy Beef next time but the important thing is that I hope there IS a next time. Issaquah is a drive for us, but if I'm in the area I know what I want for lunch.
