Salt, Fat, Acid Heat’s Samin Nosrat Announces Second Book, What to Cook - Eater SF

"Palo Alto-founded Oren’s Hummus, whose SF location opened last summer, will make its namesake product faster to get with a new branch of quick-service stores, Oren’s Hummus Express. The first one will arrive in April at Palo Alto’s Town & Country Village, with more locations bound for the East Bay and San Francisco, reportedly by the end of the year." - Caleb Pershan

Google
(3.5 stars). I didn’t have strong feelings about this place and likely wouldn’t go back, though the food and everything was okay, there’s better Mediterranean food to be had in Palo Alto. The falafel balls are tiny but also good. The pickled cabbage was a bit too sweet for me and the salad was sub-par. Staff were perfectly friendly and responsive. The inside is pretty small but does have some seating options. While it was clean and tidy, it didn’t feel like a place I really wanted to sit down and stay at. Okay but not great.

I'm visiting from Toronto, where we have GREAT food from around the world. So... I'm delighted to share that the food, or at least mine and what I can see from my sister's and brother-in-law's dishes, turned out fabulous! The flavours, textures, freshness, plating, all of it. It also seems quite reasonably priced. Very prompt service, which worked out well for us. I had the roasted cauliflower hummus. Soooo good. Would definitely eat here again and try some of the other dishes.

Whenever we're having a craving for some really good hummus, Oren's is the place to go. Unlike the location on University Ave, this smaller satellite location has a smaller menu and has a more "fast food takeout" approach to it. The food is still just as good as the full fledged location and we found that getting food items was a lot faster, even on busy days. If you haven't tried hummus outside of the prepackaged stuff in the refrigerated sections in supermarkets, you absolutely have to try the hummus here. The hummus is rich, creamy, and decadent, and the pillowy soft pitas go with it perfectly. There are a variety of toppings to choose from, and if you feel like trying a little of everything, there are entrée plates that include smaller portions of popular items like the hummus, babaganoush, Israeli salad, and so forth. Service is fast and friendly, and for those who are sticklers for parking, there is plenty available in the Town and Country Plaza where this restaurant is located. With both great food and service, this is a place we'll definitely be visiting again.

Google
Delicious! I had a hummus express plate w garlic falafel. I savored every bite. Plenty of food for lunch (too much, actually, I couldn't finish it). The inside was loud (music) with just a large multi-seat table so I ate outside. Service was as expected. Love the sustainable serving wear and the veggie options.

Google
Oren's hummus offers authentic Israeli hummus in a convenient spot in Palo Alto. Service is quick and efficient Reccomend the lamb kebabs with rice, they were really juicy and had a deep lamb flavour which paired well with the fragrant rice

Google
friendly staff, delicious food, large servings. I had the beef hummus: enough to share for two. it includes two large breads, plus dip, and a bit of salad. lots of outdoor picnic tables. . Will go again.

Google
We had chicken skewer express plate with class falafel on the side. The express plate was a huge portion with a pita bread, hummus, baba ghanoush and salads. The dips tasted amazing and very fresh. The falafel was very perfect with moist and soft inside and crunchy outside. The chicken was well cooked and well seasoned and went perfectly with the plate. We also ordered sweet potato fries for the side and they really complemented the food. The server was very kind and took our request to season the fries for us.

Google
Definitely one of my favorite places in Palo Alto! All options are delicious and their hummus are another level, especially the thick one…the bowls are my favorite Besides that their delivery is consistently good, everything well packed and looking good. Service was also very kind and helpful

Yelp
Oren's Hummus has the best Hummus on EARTH !!!! I eat here about 3-4 times a month ! If you love spicy sauce then you have to try their Green & Red sauce !

Yelp
I've been to Oren's Hummus quite a few times, but this was my first time at the Express version of the restaurant. The menu, to my knowledge, looked really similar, but it was the setup of the restaurant, with reduced seating and a smaller space, that seemed to differ. I got the hummus bowl with chunky eggplant, as I love baba ganoush and thought it would taste quite similar. It was delicious and came with two pieces of pita and cabbage slaw, so it was more than enough for two meals (given that it was a ton of hummus). I wish that I had ordered some protein with the meal to bring some more balance. I love mediterranean food, and Oren's is one of the most consistent and accessible sources of Greek food. I'm a big fan of the food and freindly service that I'm always greeted with.

Yelp
Really tasty food and hits the spot. I love their salad with chicken and oh My god the bread

Yelp
Oren's Hummus Express is a great place to get something quick. They have a great selection of dishes and grab and go dips! Small clean shop, with limited seating. We tried one of their Express Plates. Includes original hummus, red cabbage, green cabbage, babaganoush, Israeli salad with tahini dressing & one white pita. - Chicken Schnitzel: breaded chicken breast, deep fried to a golden brown. I enjoyed all the different flavors and textures in this dish, however, felt the chicken was a tad dry. I mean, it's chicken breast, right? Classic Hummus: Hummus with imported tahini, olive oil, and their secret sauce. The pita is toasty warm, and so good. My wife loves their hummis. Jaffa Style Hummus: A unique, thicker style of hummus with more garlic. Both hummus' were tasty, but out of the two, I liked the Jaffa style. Chunky Eggplant: Chunky eggplant stewed with tomatoes and garlic. This is sooo good! I can eat this for days.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here the other day. The service was pretty great and they were super nice over the phone and in person. The shop itself is very small but I guess that makes sense since it is express. The hummus came with two pita breads and also a side salad and two chili sauces. The food tasted alright, but maybe it could've tasted better if I ate it at the shop when it was warmer!

Yelp
You cannot go wrong with Oren's Hummus Express. Every single thing I've ever gotten at Oren's has been delicious. The hummus bowls are super-fresh and generous in serving sizes. I'm more accustomed to having hummus as an appetizer with chips or carrots, so when I ordered beef w/ hummus, it was a full, robust meal that I just couldn't finish on my own. The spices are so flavorful and they have the best, fluffiest, softest pita bread. Like clouds in heaven. Even the grab and go is amazing. You can't get anything bad here. They also have the best service with seating outdoors and indoors. I'd be hitting them up all the time if I lived near one.

Yelp
We had the chicken bowls with rice and salad. It was pretty tasty. The chicken was seasoned nicely, the rice had a lot of flavor. The sauces they serve on the side compliments the dish well. We had babaghanoush and pita....it was ok...needed more of a smoky taste for my preference but was ok. Pita was soft and fluffy, but it didn't reheat as nicely. Was more filling than expected, I may return if back in the area

Stephanie K.

Yelp
Delicious, as always, but *incredibly* expensive (the $8 side of rice consisted of less than a cup of rice) and they forgot the various sauces we had requested in our large online order, which we only discovered when we got home. Oren's may be too expensive for us in the future!

Amber K.

Yelp
Their baba ghanoush is probably the highlight. The hummus is average and it's quite pricey for what it is. Overall it's a solid 3 stars but there are much better tastier hummus options in Palo Alto. Also not a big fan of the way the chicken is flavored.

Yelp
I have honestly been craving Mediterranean food so much lately it's crazy!! I'll eat it and then crave it again the next couple days! Having been to the Oren sit down restaurants, this place is just as good, if not better! This Oren's Express is located in a very busy plaza in Palo Alto but more towards the backend so the parking is not bad. There are tables and benches outside as well as a high top inside. Since it's express, there are no waiters to serve you or anything. The food comes out just as hot and fresh! Both times I've been here I've eaten it right away at one of the picnic benches nearby and it's sooo good! I usually get the chicken skewer plate and my SO gets the beef rice bowl. I love that there's a good variety in the plate and I love my pita bread always! I would be down to order extra pita or extra sides! I appreciate the quality is just as good as sitting in the restaurant and this place always satisfies my cravings! Now if only they could just open one up in the Peninsula... :) be back soon!!

Yelp
I love the Moroccan beef hummus. I love all their hummus. Wish there was one in San Bruno!

Yelp
2.5 stars I'm so bummer - I do like the garlic herb falafel here which is why we got takeout here rather then go the Mountain View location. Sadly for some reason, there was the vinegar cabbage/red pepper slaw added to both of our orders - the other was chicken - this inside just ruined it for both of us - a few bites in - I finally figured out what the issue was and just ended up tossing it and had to make something else for dinner. What the heck is going on over there?

Yelp
It's exactly what it says it is "express" and is nothing like the other Oren's Hummus locations. The menu is very abbreviated and selection is limited. They had limited bowl and pita sandwich & grilled selections. We ordered chicken bowl and the beef bowl. I wanted a small side of hummus but they don't offer small sized dips, so I had to buy the to-go containers for $8, and my complaint about that for the purchase (& dine-in option) they only offered 1 piece of pita bread with the 8 oz container, I should have been offered at least 2 pieces, we had to split the pita between the 2 of us. Overall, the food is okay and I enjoyed my chicken bowl. However, my friend commented that the beef and rice was dry, so the rice was seemingly hard in texture. We both felt that our bowls could have been hotter in temperature. Staff was friendly and attentive--came by to ask us if we wanted hot sauce and more water.

Susan G.

Yelp
The hummus I ordered was so good. It came with 2 pieces of pita bread and pickled cabbage. This was intended to be a snack but actually lasted for 2 meals. The pita was fresh and fluffy. I really enjoy Oren's and usually go to the main restaurant but was pressed for time. The staff were very helpful and my food was ready in no time. Really not much ambiance to speak of. Most of the tables outside were occupied with customers from many of the nearby restaurants. I would come back if I were in a rush but most likely if I had the time I would go to the main restaurant to choose from a more extensive menu.

Yelp
I have stopped at this retail center dozens of times on my way to numerous Stanford sporting events but have seemed to miss one of my favorite places tucked away in the back corner! There is another location on University which may have confused me not realizing there are two wonderful places for me to get my favorite hummus. The portions are generous and the fresh pita was heavenly.
google avatar

Yelp
This place does a lot of business and every time we are next door we can see the line so it was time to give it a try. The bowls are best over a pita that's for sure. The rice bowl with falafel is probably their best dish. It just needs a little more tahini on the top so ask for it.

Yelp
Came here Thursday because my family had a weird schedule, we ended up eating dinner at various times. I decided to get my dinner here looking for more protein rich option. We love Oren's Hummus downtown and we usually get a lot of food each time we order. And this is the source of my 3 stars. Food is a little bit below par from my usual Oren's Hummus downtown expectations. Here's what we bought: $16 Chicken Skewer Plate $9 extra Beef Skewer $5 side order of Green Falafel I checked out the plates from previous reviews and what we got was not as expected. We got really small portions compared to our usual expectations. Food was still good but not as great as downtown. I thought the express was the limited option of food but expecting the same great quality (and quantity) as we have downtown. For $30, we got a few pieces of chicken. I think it's about one thigh fillet. 3 pieces of beef skewers, you can see the Kikkoman soy sauce packet for size reference. I know rent at Town & Country must be outrageous. But comparing their portion to next door Roost and Roast, we should have opted for their BBQ Chicken. We love the flavor and dishes of Oren's Hummus but we will most likely just go downtown and order from the main restaurant. P.S. I would like to add that our most recent orders were the family meals downtown and we're happy with those portions. I cannot compare the individual to-go portions from downtown. We have only have eaten onsite pre-pandemic and those individual portions onsite were okay.

Yelp
What can I say about Oren's Hummus that hasn't been said already. I love this place. Every now and then I crave the lamb hummus, but there aren't any near my house so I generally can't act on my impulses (probably a good thing). Wouldn't be mad if Oren's opened up a location in Fremont though. I've been to multiple locations and the quality and taste is always spot on. Came here since I was in the area and wanted to get it to go anyway. When we arrived on a Sunday afternoon, it was not too busy. There were some people sitting and eating outside on the tables. We ordered and it was ready in less than 10 min. We only ordered a few things: 1. Braised lamb hummus 2. 2 extra pita bread The braised lamb hummus (1) is literally the best thing on the menu, change my mind. This is always my go-to. Tender, flavorful lamb on top of the creamy hummus. So. Good. It comes with 2 pita breads (2), but I ordered 2 more since I would be sharing with my family (and we love bread). Make sure to ask for the hot sauce, they gave us little containers of both the red and green sauce. Both are a little spicy, but the green sauce is definitely the winner in my book. So flavorful and it takes your dish to another dimension in terms of flavor. Do not skip out on the sauce.

Yelp
Came here for the first time after graduating from Stanford cuz I didn't know there's a store in town and country before. My friend and I came on a weekday evening and ordered the hummus bowl (I got the green falafel hummus). It came with two pita bread and some salad, so overall a big portion enough for two meals. There's only one table inside but we sat there for quite long to eat and chat.

Yelp
If you're looking for a tasty meal, checkout Oren's Hummus Express which is near Trader Joe's. The service was quick and the employees are friendly. I got the chicken schnitzel express plate for $16. The chicken pieces were very tender and moist. I liked everything on the plate except for the red cabbage. It was a bit too sour, but perhaps it's supposed to be like that. My plate did come with a piece of pita bread that I forgot to include in the photo. Would like to go back again in the future to try some other items. FYI, you can save time by ordering online.

Amit S.

Yelp
Avoid the Express location, head to one of the restaurants (Palo Alto Downtown or Mountain View) instead. The sandwich costs the same in the restaurant but they seem to do a much better job. I got a falafel pita sandwich to go in the store today ... here is why I rated this experience low: * Falafels were dry * The sandwich was very underfilled compared to past experiences, with almost no hummus or salad. It was dry falafels in a dry sandwich. I checked the order before leaving ... when I complained about how underfilled the sandwich was the staff (to their credit) provided some salad on the side. However, this was also subpar with bitter cucumbers.
google avatar

Yelp
AmIng food!! I got the chipped chicken sandwich in a pita and my daughter got the classic humus with pita bread!! Soo delicious!! Best humus ever!!

Raymond R.

Yelp
Incredibly overpriced for what you get. I probably wouldn't even like this food if I hadn't eaten for 40 days and it were free. Absolute rib off.
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
Pretty good overall. The hummus was tasty and the included pitas were some of the best pitas I've ever had. My only qualm is that there definitely was not enough chicken to justify paying that price tag. The cabbage slaw salad was also not my favorite, but to each their own. I would definitely be back for the hummus & pita though!
google avatar

Janice C.

Yelp
Boy oh boy. I haven't had hummus this silky and addicting since ... Hmm. Since ... never! Their hummus bowls are varied and you wouldn't be amiss with choosing a veggie or meat option. I love love love the Sabich with its fried eggplant, potatoes and hard boiled egg in the mix. Their fluffy pita is the perfect vehicle to scoop up the thick, unique style of Jaffa hummus. Always get it this style! It's made with garlic and pine nuts. SO GOOD. Of course, being located in Town & Country, parking can be a challenge to find and lunch time can be quite busy and overrun with teeny boppers thanks to a nearby high school. And expect prices to be outrageous (yes , $12 to $16 range) but it's PA, so what do you expect? Just look at that hummus though.
google avatar

Ron W.

Yelp
I was very surprised when I came here on a co-worker's recommendation. It doesn't look like much, just a small place where they serve Hummus and some falafel. I gotta say, the Hummus was AWESOME. Reminded me of Hummus in Israel and that is a huge compliment. There isn't much to this place, but I hear that the original Oren's (non-express) has a full on menu with entrees and I will be eager to try that next time. 100% would come back.
google avatar

Neleh H.

Yelp
Was thrilled to see an Oren's closer to work & stopped in for falafel hummus bowl. I was craving a light dinner & this hit the spot. Pita bread & pickled cauliflower sides were perfection. There's one communal hi top table inside & several chairs & tables al fresco. Both staff I spoke with were super friendly & patient, explaining the sauces & ingredients. It's a sad sign that I'm actually very surprised when customer service is good ! Cutest thing ever was the cashier talking to a little kid & giving him a band aid when kid announced he had an owie on is finger. Anyway food was delicious, did not induce food coma. Will be back.
google avatar

Caroline K.

Yelp
Oren's accepted my order, 70$ worth of food. We drove there and the place was closed due to a power outage. Fine, stuff happens, except they are still taking orders for that location. Oren's needs to be better organized, and not accept orders when you aren't open. It's frustrating to drive for dinner after a long day and end up with no food and having to go through the bank for a refund.

Sadie S.

Yelp
Always a great spot for a fast and low-key meal or takeaway. This is the "express" location, so a more limited menu than a "classic" location, but still plenty to choose from. Excellent counter service, well-designed and clean space. Some indoor and outdoor seating. If you haven't tried it, the vegetarian Sabich pita sandwich featuring eggplant is SO delicious!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Lots of restaurants have taken over this spot over the years. I hope this one sticks around because they make some very yummy food. I wasn't sure what to order but the guy at the counter was very nice and helpful. He let me sample a few humus and side item choices to help me with my decision. Not much seating inside but there is also outdoor seating available. They make some very good falafel balls with a very crunchy outside and moist inside. I went with the following and was not disappointed: Falafel and salad hummus bowl with white cabbage salad and original hummus The portion sizes are decent and I was not able to finish everything in one sitting. I will be back to try the other hummus bowls!

Leee D.

Yelp
Oren's Hummus Express is so good!!! I picked up one of their Braised Lamb Hummus Bowls - it was very delicious. You can choose between original and Jaffa style hummus, and I went with Jaffa style hummus. According to Oren's website, Jaffa style hummus is thicker with more garlic, pine nuts, olive oil and parsley - so of course I had to try it out. The sweet pomegranate braised lamb melted on my tongue and paired well with the thick flavorful hummus streaked with tahini. The bowl also came with strips of fresh mint on top, which helps to keep the richness / goodness of the meat and hummus from overwhelming you. The plating was also beautiful - see picture. The braised lamb hummus bowl also came with a side of green cabbage slaw - it consisted of green cabbage, red bell peppers, shredded carrots, and a vinaigrette - the slaw was crunchy and refreshing! Last but not least, the meal came with two white pitas - the pita helped bring the whole meal together. Oren's Hummus Express is, as the name implies, very fast! I ordered pickup and it was ready in no time! When I picked up, the ladies at the place were also very warm and friendly and made sure I had what I needed for my meal. The place was clean and had great vibes and I saw many customers enjoying their food there. All in all, do check out Oren's Hummus Express!!!

Yelp
Found this place by accident heading to Trader Joe's. I called in advance to place an order so I could pickup right after my grocer haul. They have an app where if you order, you get $5 off your first online order. Will be using that next. It doesn't show in their website though. Differences between regular orens and express: - very small location - no wheat pita, only white - some dishes like the beef kebab auto come with a bunch of small dishes, like cabbage, salad, hummus, etc. Way more bang for your buck for $15/16. - they have a garlic falafels! So much better than their regular. It's not dry! Come here for a grab and go. Not much seating.

Yelp
3.5 stars! We ordered beef & chicken kabob plates plus an order of green falafel for take out. It was good portion & very filling. The falafel was incredible, made fresh, good flavor and came with a nice sauce. The plates came with pita bread & 5 sides, all delicious but the meat itself was disappointing. The bread is warm, fluffy and absolutely yummy. The hummus & baba ganoush were super flavorful, fresh & delicious. The Israeli salad I also love. It also came with green cabbage & pickled red cabbage shredded salads. They were good but too much cabbage for me, specially that we also got the Israeli salad. The beef kabob had a lot of flavor but was just unpleasant & rather dry. Wasn't excited to eat it. The chicken felt like it was pre-cooked. It was chopped in smaller pieces and was very dry and didn't have much flavor. We've been to the restaurant before and they give you fresh off the grill good chunks on chicken, which we love. Next time we would just go to the restaurant in downtown PA. Or get hummus/falafel dish only from this location.

Yelp
Skip this place entirely! For your Mediterranean fix, go instead to Gott's Roadside (right in the same Town and Country shopping center) and get the falafel salad that blows Oren's marginal overpriced cafeteria-style food right out of the water. Other reasons to avoid Oren's. Management is rude rude rude. Food is overpriced and customers are forced to buy only the most expensive dishes just to get the traditional assortment of Mediterranean flavors. Don't even think about asking to make minor modifications to the marginal menu. I offered to pay extra to substitute Baba ghanouj for hummus and I was told to go buy a $9 dollar tub from the Grab & Go section. And then I noticed they both sell for the same amount so why wouldn't establishment just offer to swap one for the other? Bad service. Overpriced food. Zero ambiance. Really a shame this place is taking up valuable real estate in the Town and Country shopping center. Good thing there are so many other gems in this little village!
google avatar

Lara T.

Yelp
I love the original location of Oren's Hummus so I knew I would like this location too. It's great because I think the prices are a little cheaper and portions seem bigger, and food is prepared quickly! Food: - Yellow Garlic Falafel Express Plate--$14 The yellow garlic falafel were fluffy and was delicious with the hummus and babaganoush. I also enjoyed the green cabbage, red cabbage, and Israeli salad which were refreshing to eat between bites of the rich and creamy hummus and babaganoush. - Sabich Hummus Bowl--$14 The hummus was so smooth and creamy. All the mix-ins (fried eggplant, potato, hard-boiled egg, Israeli salad, amba sauce, herbs, and tahini) made the hummus all the more exciting and delicious to eat. Tips: - Hummus bowls come with two pitas and express plates come with one pita.

Yelp
didn't know they had this location here! i've only need to the main location on University once and was so happy when i found the Express tonight! i got a Hummus bowl with chicken and it was absolutely delicious! the chicken is well seasoned and so juicy, the pita bread is so fluffy, and the hummus is amazing! plus portions were great, but the pricing is a bit high. will definitely come again!
google avatar

Yelp
Always fresh, healthy and great quality food. The fresh pita is heavenly and the spicy sauces amazing.
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
Some of, if not the best hummus I've had! I have gotten the grab and go hummus from Oren's a few times and always liked it. Today I got a fresh hummus bowl with the golden falafels, salad, and pita and it was delicious! I don't usually like falafels, I typically find them to be dry and the spices to be over powering, but these golden garlic falafels were fantastic!!! Perfect crisp on the outside and still soft and moist on the inside. Will definitely be back to try other things on the menu and to get the falafels again!

Yelp
This is one of the best places for Hummus in the Bay Area and this store seems to be a lot more convenient way to get to go food then the very busy location on University. I don't recall getting the babaganoush before and this was excellent My wife and I came here to get a tasty lunch. Next time I might get additional pita breads so we have enough to finish this (3 extra). Hummus Bowl with Eggplant: 4/5. I found the eggplant to be surprisingly good (it can be tough if not prepared correctly). This was very tender and was a nice complement to the excellent hummus. But since I really like the hummus here, next time I will go with just the Classic Hummus bowl to get more of it. Babaganoush: 5/5. Really well done with just the right amount of smoke flavoring. Baba-licious.

Yelp
Came here on a whim needing lunch before a family walk at Stanford. Also trying to support businesses at T&C since they're probably scraping by between the lack of traffic this coming year from Paly and Stanford, and the high rent at T&C (I've seen this specific storefront change twice since I started coming to this shopping plaza the last 7 years, probably due to the secluded location behind Trader Joe's). Oren's has a special place in my heart -- it was my first meal after my plane landed when I moved out here for grad school. I was staying with a friend who lived in PA and the downtown Oren's was one of the only things open late for dinner food. The chicken rice bowl was my favorite thereafter, but since graduating I haven't had a reason to be down this way. Order: Chicken Rice bowl (rice is seasoned with turmeric, stewed tomatoes with parsley and mint, drizzled with tahini)). Beef Kebab Rice bowl Sweet Potato Fries (these were surprisingly amazing... crunchy outside, soft inside, thick cut fries and they come with a generous portion of spicy aioli). Other available items include Hummus bowls and pitas. Pros: Faster service than the downtown PA -- always a plus, especially now with kids. Outdoor seating area with picnic tables and umbrellas (shared with other businesses). Parking is easy at T&C in general, compared to downtown. They are generous with their sauces (harissa, hot green sauce, extra hummus, sriracha aioli). Food is the same great quality you get from the original Oren's! Convenient location near other businesses, Stanford and Paly (any other year this would be an obvious plus...) Cons: A little pricey for what it is ($13-15ish for a Chipotle size rice bowl, +7 if you wanted a double serving of protein), but the food quality makes up for it.

Yelp
A chicken pita and side of fries is $23.00. The pita sandwich was pretty good, but contained only a few pieces of chicken. The fires aren't worth it. It's really difficult to justify spending this much money for what you get here, especially as it's essentially just a lunch portion of fast-casual food that priced as an full entree at a nicer restaurant

Yelp
Oren's has the very best hummus in the Bay Area. No, of course I haven't tried every hummus joint in the Bay Area, but after eating here I don't feel the need to do so. There are many choices to satisfy your hummus craving: classic hummus bowl with EVOO, hummus bowl with stewed mushrooms (incredible!), hummus bowl with braised lamb, etc. The best items are the pita sandwiches: the basic white pita is phenomenal, fluffy and fresh, but you can opt for the gluten-free variety if you have been hoodwinked into believing that you actually have gluten-sensitivity rather than having the irritable bowel syndrome that you, in fact, really do have. Give the Sabich pita sandwich a try: eggplant and chopped hard-boiled egg together with hummus, tahini and Israeli salad stuffed inside a pita. Overall, service is excellent, the place is immaculately clean, the food is delectable and healthy, portions are satisfying, and the price is reasonable. And a shout-out to James for providing me with the best service today!

Yelp
Giving this place an extra star compared to the oren's hummus in downtown PA because the seating and wait lines are much better. Would recommend this place in Town&Country given Mayfield Bakery is less savory overall, and you'll get more of a full lunch feeling from this place. Mayfield is a great place though with more ambiance and a better location to be fair, so something to consider if you're trying to decide on a brunch place. The hummus sampler is great here, as well as the pita bread. Can't go wrong with good old-fashioned homemade hummus! Unfortunately, going to have to compare this to the Trader Joe's hummus- don't know why, but I can't honestly say the Oren's Hummus quality is that much different from Trader Joe's original hummus. The varieties (like red pepper, garlic, lime, etc) are nothing compared to the original flavor- adding on anything is too distracting from the garbanzo itself! The best hummus brands are the ones without preservatives, and those are actually more likely to be found at a place like WholeFoods. Organic is another controversial topic- not sure if the garbanzo is as exposed to pesticides as something like apple skin (gross when you can actually feel how glossy a non-organic apple is). Try to get a taste of Blue Moose hummus if you're curious: http://www.bluemoose.com/ They use something called cold pressure to make their hummus without preservatives: "Preservatives and high heat are not found anywhere near our products, because yuck. Instead we keep them fresh with cold pressure. It's a natural step that uses extreme pressure to keep products fresh and protects them from bacteria - so you can always dip worry free! Curious how cold pressure works? Packages are submerged in cold water and a pressure of 5x the depth of the ocean floor is applied. This steps ensures that you get the same great flavor, texture and nutrients every time you enjoy our products. You won't find over-processed dips and spreads with our name on them, only the freshest ingredients and real flavor." Definitely a highlight of my bay area living was finding a new appreciation for the quality of the food you eat! The standards here are among the highest in the country (hence the California people are healthy stereotype) so if you're in the area for whatever reason, living or visiting, it's good to learn more about your food!

Yelp
this place deserves 5 stars! Clean, delicious food, great service and overall experience! We had the shawarma (chicken) rice bowl and the chicken plate. The basmati rice was seasoned and flavorful! The pickled cabbage as well as the Israeli salad was amazing! We were so impressed with this place. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Just as yummy as the other Oren's in Palo Alto. Great location by Stanford. Quick service. Delicious falafel wrap. So many vegetarian choices. I have loved Oren's & now I love Oren's Express!

Yelp
Hadnt been in the area fir a while and realized my butcher and hot chicken fix was not happening. Both places are gone but Oren's has opened another branch! A smaller subset of their restaurants but looks like a few new things to boot. I could see training was happening and a tech explaining their point if sale tech so theyre pretty new still. Got a chicken shawarma plate and the yellow garlic falafel side. Pretty much what i expected from previous meals but realized when i got home the pita was missing! :( otherwise pretty much in line with what you'll see at their other branches, just streamlined for grab and go

Yelp
I was first introduced to Oren's Hummus when a friend suggested we go to dinner at the downtown Palo Alto location. I was pleasantly surprised to find Oren's Hummus Express in Town & Country Village. I got the chicken hummus bowl ($14) and it is enough for two meals for one person! The pita is so soft and ask for the thicker hummus that has garlic in it. It's delish. They also package their to go orders in compostable bags, eco friendly cutlery and biodegradable containers. Fast and friendly service. It's nice to support green businesses. I will be back soon! Since it's more of a takeout place, there's not a lot of seating inside, one big shared table. Outside there are a few tables and chairs.

Yelp
Fantastic food. I especially love the hummus and Pita bread. The garlic falafel is so flavorful. I live in Washington State and I have to eat there when I come. I do eat plant based! Perfect place to eat.

Yelp
This is a fantastically convenient location to get some of Oren's (legendary) Hummus! LOCATION: Oren's Hummus Express is located in the far back corn of the Town & Country Center (on the corner of El Camino Real and Embarcadero -- across the street from Stanford University). While Town & Country tends to get busy and finding an empty parking spot can be a chore, there is plenty of parking near Oren's. It is located next to a large open parking area behind the Trader Joe's. This is a surprisingly great spot for Palo Alto. Instead of having to spend time searching for a parking spot in the downtown University Avenue location, you can pick up your food to go. FOOD: The food from Oren's is, well, legendary. They arguably offer the best fresh hummus in the entire San Francisco Bay Area. I've read reviews from food critics in San Francisco and San Jose who will make the drive to pick up hummus from Oren's. It really is as good as its reputation too. Whether you come for their famous hummus or something else, it is good food. Their Jaffa style hummus is wonderful! They serve two types of falafel -- traditional Green Herb and Yellow Garlic. Both a great -- but the yellow garlic is a nice twist on falafel. The shawarma is great (especially in the rice or hummus bowl). I'm keen on the braised lamb too. RESTAURANT: Oren's Hummus Express is a quaint, clean and brightly lit restaurant. This is certainly an "express" location. There isn't a lot of room for dining. There is one large table with stools. There are also a few tables outdoors. However, that's the purpose behind an "express" location, right? Like a deli, you simply pick up your food and take it with you. VERDICT: The food is what will keep bringing us back. If you like fantastic Israeli hummus and you want to avoid the crowds downtown and take it to work or home, then give this place a try! We'll be back!
