James Beard Awards 2020: America’s Classics Winners | Eater

"A three-generation Filipino lunch counter born in 1987 as an extension of a neighborhood grocery at Pike Place Market, this family-run counter is beloved for chef Leila Rosas’s dishes—notably salmon collar sinigang and the playful “Do You Trust Me” plate—and has been featured on PBS’s No Passport Required." - Caleb Pershan

My 1st visit to Chinatown Market. It was the highlight of my day! I travel extensively in Asia and I'm also a former professional chef. Iiving an hour from Savannah my only source ot Asian grocery items has been online. No more! Its crowded isles and shelves were refreshingly authentic, no it does not have that over sanitized polished appearance that many Americans are accustomed to, thats its charm. In some ways this market is better than those in Asia..if you go to a grocery market in Japan you'll find Japanese culinary delights that stir your senses. Here take your pick. You want Chinese delicacies? You'll find them, but you'll also find hard to come by Thai, Japanese, Korean and more! My hope is that they're not forced to change and give up this gem of a store.

This place is the 1st and only Asian market I shop at! I bought my 1st dragon fruit, Jack fruit, and authentic Asian noodles from here. My husband usually gets cases of flavored Aloe Vera juices here, and my daughter get their seaweed from here. We love to see and try different things from different cultures! It takes a good 45 minutes for me to get to this market, and it's like going on a little adventure for the family. Parking can be very difficult as there is a very small parking lot in front of the store. Depending on the day and the time, it can get very tricky trying to find a parking spot. The lot itself is not very spacious at all, and it tends to stay packed. There does not seem to be a lot of organization in this store, but it works for them, so I can't judge. The entryway into the store and through the store is very narrow. You will tend to bump shoulders or have to move in one of their various aisles to let other people pass by to get where you need to go. The store is clean enough for a market. I tend to look past the cleanliness because I know the many things they have to offer. I feel that for it's size they do a pretty good job of keeping the place as clean as they do. Especially being that the store is stocked with all kinds of items. There's like two big areas of the store. There's the front part, that has basically mostly dried foods, canned goods, household items, sweet and salty foods, noodles, sodas and juices, different types of eggs some exotic fruits, a butcher area for meats towards the back and the register and cashiers. Then you walk to the right and to the middle/back of the store. There, you will find so many more aisles and freezer compartments of cold items such as vegetables, more meats, freezed goods( variety of dumplings, egg rolls, etc..), teas, seasonings, more condiments, and so much more. It's literally a maze... a narrow maze in and out through the store!!! You will be amazed at what you can find. I have not met a rude person in there, and I've shopped here numerous times throughout a period of over 10+ years. There is a diverse number of people that frequent this market. They cater to a diverse and blended type of neighborhood and community. I believe that you can find at least one person here who works here and can either speak some English or understand what you're saying enough to communicate somewhat. I would say it's not in the best of neighborhoods, so go more towards the day versus at night. Once you come once you will surely come back.

I love this place, they have everything from black tea, green tea, black rice, seaweed, matcha, noodles, they even have different Asian lays chips of different varieties and Asian twists on favorite candies , such as matcha flavored kit Kats! Fresh and frozen meats! Chopsticks, woks and other utensils. This place is an experience!

Market style grocery with great prices and extensive inventory for Savannah! Definitely have to take your time and explore (open the freezer!) but can’t wait to go back and pick up my favorite items and find new things to try as well.

The inventory looks more extensive. The aisles are poorly-organized. The warehouse set-up is fine but the place needs to be more tidy and more conducive to grocery shopping. The rainy weather is not an excuse for wet and smelly shop floors.

Great prices and selection! I came from out of town because my county surprisingly does not have any asian cuisine markets at all. I had a large list of items I needed that would have been expensive to order online due to shipping so I am glad I was able to get almost everything here! I was most happy to finally grab a bunch of furikake rice seasoning in many flavors for $2.99 because online most flavors are $10-20+ A PIECE even on Amazon and online markets add up to the same after shipping mostly. I will definitely return for the large selection of cookware in the future! I will say the cleanliness and heavy aisle clutter/blockages made it difficult to shop, but I will still come back again knowing they have what I need at fair prices. ♡

My go to place for all things international. The staff are kind and friendly and they have a variety of items. Sometimes I can request special orders and they will let me know if it's available. I come here at least once a week.
