"Origami is a Twin Cities sushi staple in the heart of Uptown, the winner of many reader’s choice awards in local magazines. It’s known for its comprehensive sake and Japanese whiskey list — try a pour of Hibiki Harmony or Tenjaku. For sushi, the restaurant has separate menus for sashimi and rolls: favorites are their hosomaki (thin rolls) and futomaki (fat rolls). Try the “black widow,” made with fried soft shell crab. Origami has a shaded patio that’s removed from the heavy traffic on Lagoon Avenue and Hennepin Avenue — an excellent respite for outdoor dining in the summer. (Or get takeout and walk to Bde Maka Ska’s 32nd avenue beach for a picnic.)" - Justine Jones, Eater Staff

"Origami has been consistently ranked among the best sushi restaurants in the Twin Cities. We accredit our success to our skilled chefs who ensure only the highest quality ingredients. Origami's menu is heavily influenced by traditional Japanese kaiseki cuisine and Izakaya cuisine."

The food was quite good, except the black widow rolls ( $20 ), but it’s somewhat small. I think they only used half soft shell crab. I think there were some issues we didn’t like overall. First, the chicken wings on the menu says 5 pieces, but it came only 4. We asked the waitress. She said it is because the wings are bigger so it comes only 4. Seriously? Then you should say that on the menu. Besides, they were not that big. Second, we saw some items actually charged us more on the bill than the menu said. For example, deluxe platter we were charged $35 something before tax, but the menu was $32.95; Ramen was $15 something before tax, the menu was $14.95. We didn’t want to argue for the few dollars. We just wanted to leave. Third, they charge 3% extra if customers pay by credit card. I have never heard of that charge in any restaurant in the US. We felt we got lots of extra charges plus tips.

Excellent Sushi and Japanese cuisine! The atmosphere is quaint with small personal service. Plating is beautiful and the food is so very good. Cost is average to medium. If you are in the area and looking for sushi this is the place to go.

Overall a pretty good spot for sushi. The atmosphere was fun, service was good, and the location is pretty easy to access Prices were not terrible, though not cheap. The tempura was tasty, but the shishito peppers were fairly tasteless unless you got a ton of the sauce in each bite. Our rolls were pretty good, but none of the dishes really impressed. I found the salmon skin roll to be my favorite, actually There was also a weird green spot on one piece of salmon, so I just didn’t eat that bit, not sure if it was wasabi remnants or something else, just off putting for sure I’d still prefer Momo and AMA Sushi to this place, but we did have an enjoyable meal overall

I enjoy coming to this place because of the variety of the menu. My friend and I went all out and ordered Crab Rangoon, two rolls and a bowl of ramen. The Crab Rangoon was good but nothing special. The special roll (description in picture) is one of the most delicious bites I have ever eaten. The flavors are so fresh and delicious together. The sweet heart roll was also very yummy. The Ramen was good. It is a nice spot and I am always surprised how slow they are. The parking ramp is pay to park but gives a nice option to park right at the restaurant in a city where parking to eat can be a nightmare. Overall I highly recommend and suggest you try the special if they have it when you are there!

I've been here twice now, and it's phenomenal every time. I love the small, intimate setting. The servers are wonderful. And the food is the best part. The first time I was here, I tried some sort of shrimp fried rice dish that was the best I've ever had. This most recent time, I tried the spicy salmon rolls with a variety of negiri. Everything had so much flavor and the negiri options nearly melted in my mouth. My boyfriend tried the ramen and that was also great. On top of that, their plum wine is my guilty pleasure. It's SO GOOD. 10/10 recommend.

Really excellent value for what you get. Great portion sizing-even if you order just a single portion of nigiri it is easy enough to split between two people. Order the Squid tempura, especially good value and a crowd pleaser. Service was great too-took care of us without hovering and were happy to let me sit by the chefs window after I ate. Had a 90$ date night after a strong tip where we felt like we really “balled” out-not something I could say many places

The food at Origami was tasty— the udon and sushi were great in flavor and presentation. The best part of the restaurant was the overall ambiance and vibe of it. I can tell that a lot of thought went into the decorations and aesthetics. However, I thought that the service was sub-par. My boyfriend and I went on Valentine’s day, and the particular server we got was cold and dismissive in her demeanor. I’m not at all picky when it comes to service, but I felt demeaned and disrespected. There was a point that she filled up our water to the point that it overflowed and it spilled everywhere— only for her to walk away. She most likely did not notice, but I was left to clean the spill because I did not want to cause a scene. We observed that she treated the other patrons better, and I’m not sure if it was the fact that my boyfriend and I were the youngest couple there, or if she was just having a “bad day”. Regardless, I tried not to let it bother my date night. I hope that she is able to reevaluate her attitude and better any biases she feels towards younger adults dining in. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a charismatic, hip Japanese restaurant to eat at, but I would not come here if you are younger looking for more sophisticated and modern dining. If you are looking for better value sushi and Japanese dishes (and it is all you can eat), I would rather spend my money at Kyoto Sushi. Potentially, I would love to revisit this restaurant, but only when I’m a couple of years older.

Went here for dinner, the table we where seated at was upstairs, and although we had been the only people seated there we did not get forgotten about. Super cute place, delicious and fresh food, pleasant atmosphere. I went with my sisters but came home and suggested my son take a date there. Definitely looking forward to going back!
