Frightening Fish Friday!! I Have To Start By Stating This Is The Sadest Looking Plate Of Food I've Seen In A Long Time..I Warn You!! Dont Go There If Your Hungry!! As You Can See Extremely Small Portions!!! It's The Rellplica Of A Generous Appetizer. Theres More Bread Then Fish!! You Literally Have To Go FISHING FOR THE FISH!! The Fruit Punch Taste Like Sugar Water? I Specifically Asked To Please Refrain From Frying My Fish Too Hard & Had A Long Conversation In Detail With The Cashier. Of Course It Was Over Cooked!! Over All, If You Decide To Take A Chance And Try This Restaurant!! I Definitely Dont Recommend You Order Fish!! Hopefully The Chicken & Ribs Are Much Better!!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had the fried chicken and fries, and both were spot on—crispy, seasoned just right, and full of flavor. The lemonade was also really refreshing and hit the spot. The wait was a bit long, but honestly, it was worth it once the food came out. Great spot if you’re looking for comfort food done right.

Chicken was real homemade chicken! Seasoned perfectly! The greens were bland but the beans were good. Different but good. I had to go back for the potato salad & overheard the cashier say I was the second person that day. 😂 The ribs were cooked well & saucy like I prefer. The flavor was okay. They only have outdoor seating & it was raining. I also thought the ladies at the front could have been friendlier. Particularly the shorter lady that initially bagged my food. They weren’t rude but act like y’all are happy to be there, hell. Still recommend. Oh, & I’m glad I returned for the potato salad because it was as the kids say, “BUSSIN”.

I noticed this spot because I have to pass it on my way to campus & it seemed like a real mom & pop restaurant so I was really eager to try it. It’s a very small restaurant, the ordering area can maybe hold 6 people comfortably. There is outside seating that seem like it could be very cozy on a good weather day. I ordered a Rib & Wing dinner combination. You could choice between Pork or beef ribs, light meat, dark meat or 3 wings! I chose the pork ribs & 3 wings with my sauce on the side. For the side I had French fries & collard greens! I love the crinkled cut fries and how they were seasoned. The collard greens didn’t have enough unique flavor for my liking but they were not bad. The chicken wings were good & the ribs were nice & meaty. I tried the homemade lemonade & it was perfect. I have tasted nice sweet lemonade that good in along time. I would definitely go back to try other items off the menu. The two ladies at took the orders (Neveah) both were very nice & answered all my many questions about the restaurant and the menu. Both ladies made my visit welcoming.

The food was really good. This is a long established, highly respected business in the community. When you're in line, you can see the neighborhood regulars popping in with their orders. My family had the fried perch sandwich meal and 2 piece dark meat fried chicken with greens and mashed potatoes. The sweet potato pie was delicious.

Came across this restaurant as I was in town. Was a great option. Had the wings and fried and very delicious. Lemonade was great and sweet but not super sweet. The pork ribs were okay but sauce was amazing. Only cons is the limited parking and the inside was a little tight but overall worth a visit.

I tried the food here for the first time. I had the white meat chicken dinner with baked bean and mac n cheese. The chicken was very good. Crispy season well and was not greasy I really liked the chicken. The mac n cheese was good it was baked solid but not over cooked or dry or salty. Now I didn't like the baked beans. It was beans and weenies I didn't like the beans at all.

First timer The chicken livers are fantastic. The seasoning is on point. I heard the hot dog was delicious as was the fried pork chop. Great food ... we'll be back

My family stopped in for dinner. We ordered a little bit of everything: a two-piece dark meat chicken dinner, jumbo shrimp, pulled pork BBQ, mac & cheese, onion rings, two extra legs, and a cobbler for dessert. Every single item was delicious, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The people at the counter were incredibly patient and friendly as we took our time figuring out what we wanted. Once we ordered, we waited about 20 minutes in the car. It was well worth it. Great food, great service.

I went to this restaurant today and was so disappointed. I ordered the ribs. They were terrible, inedible. They were smothered in bbq sauce which was nasty, tough , no seasoning. I got a side of greens that were clearly from the can and tasted like vinegar. I only ate the hushpuppies and okra. Waste of money and still hungry. 0/10 I would not recommend.

The ribs seemed boiled. Sauce was good, but you need bark on ribs. It was super busy and hard to park

It was crowded when we went, so we expected this place to be super bomb. The place is small and seems like an to-go order only type spot. Our order was wrong unfortunately when we got home. The food was just average. We had the perch and chicken wings. I don't think I'd try this place again but I can't say the same for my hubby!

BEST fried chicken in the CLT! I usually can only eat the skin on fried chicken that my mama made. This fried chicken is that good! I'm from KY, so yes, I'm a fried chicken concierge . Do not discount the collard greens. They don't look that appealing, but the seasoning is spot on! They also had me at "crinkle" fries! The service is so efficient and nice. You can tell they all enjoy working together. They cook everything to order so don't be complaining if your order takes 15 mins. Order ahead online, their website is easy peasy. I love this great takeout only place!!

Stopped to get a pork chop sandwich for mom she said it was great and fried perfectly. Rib snack for my nephew with a salad he loved the ribs and BBQ sauce. Salad was very fresh. Lots of items to choose from on there menu. I loved this place before going vegan. Service is always quick and great! There is no dine-in but you can sit outside at the picnic tables. Stop pass and check them out!

Excellent, memorable. I am a "fried chicken snob" and this is the best I've had in a long time. And the collards were the real deal too. This is a small take out place with two tables outside. It takes a while for the food to come out because they are a cook to order place. This is likely why the food is so good but plan on waiting about 20 minutes. The folks were very welcoming. And again... the chicken was excellent.

Food is good. Customer service is good. The food is always fresh bc it's cooked to order. They make a good effort to get it out as fast as possible.

Great place for carryout. I ordered the fried chicken and as others have stated, it's cooked to order so it is boxed fresh and hot. Well-seasoned and crispy. Service was nice and fast with a smile. Will def be back to try the ribs and sides.

I've been eyeing this place for quite a while. I finally went and couldn't be more disappointed. Ordered the two piece chicken dinner, which entailed coleslaw a biscuit, and two pieces of dark chicken was the only thing available. After waiting for 30 minutes, I was called for my order. The chicken was slimy not crisp at all! The coleslaw was minced, like it came out of a bucket. What a poor representation of soul food -don't waste your time!

Just a little chicken shack on the near north side been dishing out food to the locals and tourists alike for 70 years if it's been a day... chickens, ribs, sammiches, fishes, and all like that. If you're at all clever you can call ahead and when you show up you get your food... otherwise you go in, order, leave, and come back in about fifteen or twenty minutes to get your food. I didn't know I was coming here until I got here and wound up doing the order, wait, and pick-up on my way to the airport to collect the cutest of chicks. chicken & rib meal thing with greens and potatoe salad and a beverage; took a bit longer than twenty minutes but there was people coming and going the whole while so yeah, that happens. got my food and got on my way to the CLT overlook to enjoy while watching the planes come and go: two piece dark was still hot and crunchy and moist when I tucked into it, pork ribs are just crazy good and meaty; the pig-sickles were dripping sweet red stickiness everywhere. potato salad was a pleasant distraction and has little colorful bits in it as well. really could have used a dash of red pepper vinegar on the greens, but when that's my biggest complaint I have no complaint.

Found this gem traveling. If you want a plate of food that taste like it came from your grandparents Kitchen - look no further. I had the wing dinner with / mac & cheese and collard greens. Sorry no before pics - but the after pic says it all.

This is a carry out style restaurant. I recommend calling in your order in advance as there isn't much room to sit and wait. The guy in the front taking orders was extremely friendly and polite. Overall, I enjoyed the food. I ordered fried whiting and my friend ordered fried chicken and fried okra. The whiting came with fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies. There wasn't anything special about the fries and I really enjoyed the hush puppies. I love a good sauce, but felt like the homemade tartar fell short. The desserts were my favorite part of the meal - pound cake and sweet potato. I look forward to returning to this place and trying different entrees.

Overall solid place. Highkey recommend you ordering ahead of time! I ordered when I got there on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait almost an hour. That was on me though. I ordered the chicken gizzards and livers which was GREAT. I also ordered the chicken and ribs. The chicken was pretty good but the ribs were decent. I would definitely go again.

You too can support Black Owned Businesses! It is so easy when they're serving up delicious fried chicken with southern sides and hushpuppies. If you only take away one thing from this review is don't forget to order a side of hushpuppies. They opened at noon on Sundays, people were already waiting for their take away. It is carryout only, order ahead because they cook everything as ordered, so chicken takes about 25 minutes. Service is great and they are wearing masks and gloves and having everyone wait in their cars for food. Add this to your list of fried chicken joints. I can see it being a heavy contender for top of the list in Charlotte.

Was told about this place from a colleague. And when he said I wouldn't be disappointed, boy was he right! This is a mom and pops walk in, wait in the car until your food is ready to be picked up type of restaurant. Everything is made-to-order. So it's super fresh. Soul food that quenches the soul. I ordered wayyyy too much food, but I was excited to try many different things on the menu. I had chicken wings w/ rolls and a mini fish box with perch. My sides were Mac n cheese and greens. Omg the sides were so good I could've driven 30 mins back from my hotel to slap Mrs. Deloris - respectfully of course lol. I'll come here anytime I'm in town! I meant to take photos of the food, but forgot because I was gobbling it all down .

A small restaurant with lots of good food made to order. I love freshly cooked food, it makes all the difference in the taste and clearly OCR gets that. I enjoyed my croaker which was well seasoned and huge! My ribs were good as well but I'll definitely come back for more fish. The other half of my party ordered wings and inhaled them so the chicken is on point as well.

This Historical neighborhood staple called a restaurant is EVERYTHING and then some!!!! Black owned and operated and has been since its inception! I proudly eat from here on a regular. I am fortunate to be one of the many regular customers that know the owner and all the family that works with her to pump out the best "Take Out Home Made" food in the city! You cant be health conscious here though, it is not a Vegan friendly atmosphere and most definitely not low calories! LoL If you just want some good food that will fill you up and you want to be happy that you spent your money with a business then slide through! Suggestions! Try EVERYTHING! LOL You can thank me later!

I am never disappointed anytime that I come here. The food is always fresh and delicious and the girls always have nice service. Sometimes when they are super busy you may not be able to get anyone on the phone, so you have to go in, place your order then go back to the car to wait. When its super busy it can be tricky to navigate the parking lot. The first couple of times that I got the chicken it tasted a lil like burnt grease but I haven't had that problem on the last few visits. I always get the gizzards which are always well seasoned and fried to perfection. The mac and cheese, greens and okra are good. The potato salad was ok. I have taken a couple of my friends over there and everyone has good things to say about them. They really do a good job. Love supporting my fellow black businesses. if you are in the charlotte area, definitely stop by and give them a try.

1st time coming in even though I've seen it many times! I just wanted to order something simple yet something that tells me if this place is any good! Wings! So there's a sign that says that there's a 20mins wait on chicken it's cook to order! So I waited and they were good! Not greasy the fries were piping hot! Next time it's gonna be the Fish! Good job

This place is legit. A real family run restaurant with a delicious menu selection. The only issue is that there signature meal, "the fat boy" is neither chicken or ribs.

Absolutely delicious! Everything is made to order so it's fresh. The fried chicken has so much flavor. The beef ribs are tender and tasty. We also had the Mac and cheese, Collards, baked beans, and coleslaw. Everything was great especially the Mac and cheese! We order from here often and it's top notch every time!

They are a Beatties Ford Rd staple. Extremely affordable. Made to order menu. We live within walking distance and have enjoyed their food regularly since we became residents of Washington Heights. We enjoy their fried fish, fried chicken, the emphasis Fat Boy and their hotdogs (all the way). Recommended sides: mac & cheese, fries, collard greens and fried okra. Their homemade slices of cake are great for accompanying your meal. You will wait 20-25 minutes for your food. They have limited capacity in their lobby and are requiring masks. If you call in your order, you may receive a busy line, be diligent in calling or enjoy waiting for your food in the car once you arrive.

Great customer service and awesome food. I ordered a quick lunch bite based on previous reviews and I have to say that they did not disappoint. When I walked in, I was greeted right away. I placed my order and waited in my car for about 10-15mins. My food was ready, fresh, and piping hot. I'll definitely be back and I can't wait to try the various options that they offer.

I love their fried whiting and the slaw. The staff is nice and though they are often busy, they are always professional. My family enjoys the chicken, the ribs and the sweet tea. When I want a taste of my Mississippi roots, I order the Whiting plate! The portion is large, the price reasonable and the taste on point! Call ahead and place the order.

I have been looking for good soul food in NC since I've moved here, and found nothing. Someone referred me to Chicken & Ribs, so my fiancé and I decided to try it on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered chicken and fish, with Mac and cheese & fried okra. The meal came with a roll & hush puppies. I also ordered an Arnold Palmer and a slice of cream cheese pound cake for dessert. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious!! The pound cake was PERFECT!! My fiancé ordered chicken and beef ribs with double Mac, and banana pudding. He loved his meal but the banana pudding wasn't good. It tasted like they used too much artificial banana flavor. Other than that, everything was top notch.

The food is delicious. However for the last 3 weeks my orders were screwed up. Missing items that I paid for. Called on yesterday to complain and all I got was I'm sorry, we got new staff. When I pay $50 to $60 I want what I paid for. If the men in the back cooking would pay more attention to the orders than who is walking in the door then maybe they will get the orders right. I'm all for supporting black owned businesses but come on let's focus and get orders right.

I just stopped by to grab a 4 piece wing dinner with fries. This was my first time coming here so I was expecting for the food to be served instantly. This is not true BUT don't be afraid. The food do not take long at all. FRESH food is better anyways. Wings were smaller than I would like but I noticed an extra wing so no complaint from me. Update: The lemonade is perfect!!

You'd think a place with "Chicken" in its name would know the difference between a thigh and a breast. I specifically ordered White meat for the chicken and ribs dinner only to find a thigh where the breast should be. On top of all that they ran out of tea and I had to get some generic grape drink. That was nowhere near the price of nearly 27 dollars for them to get the order wrong and run out of sweet tea. Why are you even open in the South, if you can these basic things right?

Drive by one day on the way to a work meeting. Decided to stop back by afterwards for lunch. The outside makes the look bigger than it is inside for customers. The address is Beatties Does but the entrance is onk u accessible via Oaklawn. They have all menu items on electronic food board as well as paper menus that you can take. This place is take out only location. It is best to call ahead of you know what you want and then come in. As far as my experience, the cashier was friendly and explained items clearly. I ended up getting the Super "T" plattter which was a bacon cheese burger all the way (lettuce, tomato, mayo and pickle) fries and a drink. I did receive to special gifts with my platter, a cheese stick and onion rings. Both the then were delicious and are in my list for next time. The food was great. And I can't wait to go back. Next time I'll try the chicken or ribs.

Always a good experience here! The food is fried fresh and made to order each and every time! It's a community landmark and a historic restaurant! I can see why they've stood the test of time!

Insanely delicious southern cooked food. Yes the place is in the hood but you gonna want more of this good flavor or here. Lots of varieties to choose from. Cakes and cobblers too. Greens and okra too. Follow me I'll show you how to ge there. Get me a wing dinner plate too. Lol

The pie is the best .chicken always hot and I've yet to experience bad smelling old grease The only fault I found was the ribs were fatty and not very tasty maybe because it was late in the day

In an effort to support at least one black owned business a week. I thought i would try The Original Chicken & Rib. I have gone to this location several times. If my guess is right, there is a tall guy that is the owner or manager. I love this place when he working but when he not on site this restaurant can be pure chaos. It is very hard to place a call in order of the the phone is turned off. There is no indoor seating so the have the number posted for you to drive up call and place your order... Not possible, because they turn the phone off so you can't place a call in order. Then the place gets crowded with people trying to place and order. CHAOS!!! When the owner is there you will experience a well tryin operation. When he's there my food is excellent. But you sure can tell when he's not there. If you like Koolaid they have the best. I haven't given up on them but I would like to see a better trained staff when the owner is not there.

Heard a lot of good things about this place so I thought I'd give it a try. Tried to order over the phone so I wouldn't have to wait, but I kept getting a busy signal. That's probably the only complaint I have. I tried the fried chicken with okra and coleslaw and the hot dog. The hot dog was decent but the chicken was extremely good! The okra was good and the coleslaw was decent (I've had better). I will definitely be visiting again to try out something else on the menu.

Pork Chop Sandwich. The best in town. Light, crispy, seasoned to perfection! The bun is just right, not too bready but lightly toasted. The sandwich is awesome. I actually walked up and ordered it. I thought, since I had not called ahead, that I'd be waiting for quite a while. Instead, I was in and out in about 12 minutes. The place is clean, the people are very professional and about their business. The wife loves the place as well. She had a cheese steak that was nice and meaty with good flavor. There's no seating on the inside. So plan to pick up your order to go. Parking may be a challenge during peak times. But this place is a must try if you haven't.

I order lunch over the phone. With a man who seem to have great customer service. He told me 15-20 min. .. for a hotdog special . When I arrived 16 min later. No where to park. Got parked went inside. The older rude lady said my food wasn't ready. I waited inside for 5 more mins. Then went in outside to give other space that were coming in. Went back in 5 mins later. Thinking my food be Rady and cold by now. The older rude lady ask what did I have. Told her, then she said it's been ready! What!!!! Really maybe if I would have been rude like her I would got my food 5 mins ealier... Well I'm over it. Food was good. But better customer service needed

The food is very good. If you want good southern food, this is the place. The cashier is always pleasant and there is always a steady flow of customers. My only issue is there is no cornbread on the menu.
