Dub N Grub Serves Some of Miami's Favorite Vegan Caribbean Food | Bon Appétit

"A long-standing local favorite with roots in the neighborhood and ties to multigenerational restaurant work; it has cultural recognition from appearing in a 2002 Jamaican cult film and figures into family histories of cooks who grew up working there." - ByDinkinish O'Connor

The wait time here is HORRIBLE. I attempted to call ahead for my food and no one answered the phone so I went in person and only ONE person was there working. While she was pleasant, her working alone in such a busy time is crazy. They need to hire more staff. The restaurant smelt like the sewage, that was a major turn off! I can’t imagine sitting in there to eat. My food was a little salty nonetheless, I enjoyed it.

First time coming here. Had some curry chicken and I gotta say it was absolutely delicious. Friendly service, great food, and a clean environment.

I learned about Junie’s after watching Fat Joe new show on Netflix, he was interviewing DJ Khalid and they both talked about this restaurant. Chile let me start by saying that the owner is so sweet and friendly the food … the food smell so good but taste wonderful. I had the jerk chicken with rice n peas and cabbage with sauce on the side…I also had a Jamaican Pineapple Soda 10 out of 10 10 10. If you’re in Miami you need to bust a move and go to Junie’s you will not be disappointed… WE DA BEST

Best Jamaican food in town been ordering there for years and years love everything

Google
Great location to pick up a decent plate of Jamaican food. I've tried different dishes and everything is always pretty good. Service is not great and a bit slow, but everything l've had here is good.

Google
Food was great. Service and Friendliness wasn't a problem. I didn't like the long wait time. Owner may want to hire an extra personal during busy hours to get people in and out quicker. I went back a few days later. I always call my order in so it would be ready when i arrive. Its never ready upon arrival. I always have a long wait. The cashier was arguing with another customer. As good as the food is, i dont think i will return. When you are in business, you dont argue with your customers. Even if you are right. You fix the problem and make them happy so they will come back and refer you whether you profit, loose, or draw on the transaction

Google
Portions much much too small for price. Long wait, cold food and so-so service.

Google
Ackee and salt fish with fry dumplings. Sorry but the food was nasty . Dumplings not fried properly.. would not recommend! The original junes restaurant was great.. find a new chef.. ackee was cooked without seasoning

Yelp
$28 small whole fish with bland rice and " salad" that was only lettuce $18 small oxtail 5 extremely small pieces surrounded by pure fat Disappointed because this WAS my favorite Jamaican food restaurant Compensating for lack of customers by increasing prices but food is not cooked with love Sincerely

Yelp
I love Junies Easy W I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars, only because I have had, in what was my experience, & rude woman take my order, & I despise rude customer service

Yelp
Please save yourself. Worse Jamaican food you can ever buy. Sad they even call it Jamaican food. Chicken had no other flavor but RAW. I'm heart broken

Yelp
I'm more into the overall experience. The food alone was delicious. A little spicy, but that's how jamaican food is. The curry goat was on point and a little more. The rice and peas' contrast with the goat was perfect, and the salad was as fresh as it could've been. If it wasn't for the physical appearance of the place, I would've rate it at least 4 out of five stars. If you just want great jamaican food, I recommend this place. If you want something more etiquette, go somewhere else. Great place to have lunch though.

Yelp
Pretty good food just expect a bit of a wait on your order. I ordered the brown stew fish so so good. Well fried snapper garnished with onions and carrots, it was too saturated like most brown stew fish but you're able to enjoy the crisp of the fish. The fish came with rice and peas n veg. I also tried the jerk chicken pretty good but very very spicy. Looking forward to trying their ackee n salfish..

Yelp
The ox tail and brown stew chicken are still the best I've ever had. I'm updating my review because I think the service has gotten better. Or perhaps I'm simply more patient. I'm still going to order from here, regardless, because the food is just that good.

Yelp
2.75 out of 5 would be my true rating but Yelp wants to keep things whole so 3 it is. Was in the Miami Gardens area with my bff for the 6th Annual Jazz in the Gardens and wanted to try a new local treasure and yelp about it for future yelpers! It's in a great location, right off of the ever-busy Miami Gardens Drive and seemed like it had potential to deliver an amazing meal... Who doesn't like really great Island food... exactly, no one that's who.... The Good: *I liked the decor of the restaurant... the bright colors are reminiscent of the beauty you would see on the island itself. *I liked the price $8 for a good portion size of food The Bad: *Limited Choices... I say the bad simply because I had a tasting for Jerk Chicken which is one of the most common dishes of the island however, I was told it is only served on certain days of the week... *Ordered the Brown Stew Chicken: I've never had brown stew but I'm pretty sure the chicken is not supposed to be fried... I thought the rice and beans lacked flavor and was slightly dry. *Customer Service: If there is one thing that I think is crucial to the success of an organization, restaurant and even person, is how you receive and respond to ppl. Of the three people working there only 2 of the three seemed to be ready and willing to help enhance the dining experience with either supplying utensils as needed or even a napkin... so thank you to the two that helped make the experience bettter! How someone is received can in many cases be the deciding factor sooo let's try and be a wee bit more cordial... Probably wouldn't be back since Miami is such a rare visit for me and I'd like to have the best while I'm there.

Yelp
Awesome Jamaican food, right in the middle of 441. It's a little expensive but the quantity that they give you is like for two ppl. But if you want to have some authentic Jamaican food definitely go there and enjoy. They have sitting areas inside also.

Woody W.

Yelp
(5 Stars) Not since Aunt "I" that I have had the Curry Goat like this, and the Snapper Fish is my wife favorite, Donna's is right down the street (441) but the food quality and authenticity is not even close to Junies, it mighty take some time for your order (I call mines in) but even the wait is well worth it, Y'all keep doing what y'all do, and thanks for returning my iPhone X; I was in a rush to get with my Curry Goat! All the soups are excellent (chicken foot soup

Yelp
This is my second rating for this place. The first was a Google review which was about how crappy their customer service was. This review is more focused on my overall experience across several visits, even after I stated I would never go there again. I think this restaurant is extremely overrated, especially because they appeared in the movie, Shottas. Not that their food isn't good, but it is not necessarily consistent. You can order the same thing 3 times and it will taste different all three times. Now, obviously no one is perfect at but when I say different, I am talking about the texture of the food. I ordered fried chicken and it sucked the first time, awesome the second time and then it was hard as a rock the third time. However, I can honestly say that when it's done right, it's right! The thing I have an issue with the most of the length of time that it takes to get your food. You order over the phone and still go into the restaurant and wait 20-30 minutes, realistically! If you take a break from work just to go pick up your food, I can tell you that you're gonna get a point at work for being late from lunch LOL. The previous reviews are right, I mean really, these people are so slow they make Zombies look like they're faster than Usain Bolt! hahaha Overall, I think it really comes down to the day you go there. If they are really feeling it, the food can be amazing and the service can be above par. Then again, you can go there and they are completely off.

Yelp
I have lived in South Florida my entire life and as we all know, it's a big melting pot. Lots of cultures and tons of different types of restaurants. I eat out a lot and consider myself a food conneiseur (self proclaimed) with sensitive taste buds. Last week, I visited Junie's on 441 and 183rd for the first time. I ordered the Jerk Chicken (which is only available Wed-Sun) and let me just say, IT WAS MAGNIFICENT! I ordered all white meat (which can be dry at some restaurants) and it was phenominal. The meat was juicy and tender and seasoned to the bone. The spice was just-right. Enough kick but not too much that its HOT HOT overload! The rice and peas were sooo nice. Lots of coconut milk and so much flavor. Only negative thing I have to say is, like all other Jamaican Restaurants here in South Florida, the staff is never really friendly. Junie's is no different. In MY opinion, the lady at the counter seemed a bit angry with life. I went back today for the Brown Stew chicken and a different person was working the counter, still not too nice. The food is absolutely worth it though so I will keep going back but hopefully they get nicer.

Yelp
I didn't eat the food. I want to make that clear, I am only review the service. My sister called in a lunch order, since I didn't have anything to work on, I offered to pick it up. They said 10 minutes, so I got there 15 minutes later. 30 minutes later I finally walked out of the Restaurant with the food. Triple the time is not acceptable.

Yelp
Cons: Closes way to early Small menu Selection Don't like the fact that everybody just uses the salad dressing like that... Slow Service ( Best if you can call in order ahead of time) Pro: Best Callaloo and Salt Fish in town Best Fried/ Brown Stew Chicken I ever tasted. Seasoned to perfection. Nice Oxtail Gravy not oxtail but gravy... Oxtails are just ok, I've bought better. They do carry a crowd so the food does turn over quickly; no stale sitting food. Wide selection of drinks. Decent looking eating area (NOT a Hole in the Wall type of Joint) Will be returning here now and then but only if I'm in the mood for the Brown Stew Chicken; which so far is the best I've bought before. They do there's a little different than most and I really like the sauce.

Yelp
I visited Junie's today and I am a FAN! I liked the fact that it is NOT a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, you can actually sit, breathe & just relax. I got so comfortable that I sat & ate my food there & charged my phone using one of their wall outlets lol. I was surprised to see that so many people were just doing take-out tonight so the restaurant tables & chairs were not being utilized. Better for me because it felt like I had the restaurant all to myself. But like a previous review mentioned, most of those tables & chairs appear to be just for people who are waiting on food. There are no actual waiters to serve or assist. Now on to the FOOD: the food was very good. I was surprised. I ordered a jerk chicken meal with rice & peas, gravy on the rice and there was a salad on the side. It was all very delicious. The jerk season was just right & spicy enough, although not TOO spicy. I wish it were spicier but it was still very good. I deducted a star and gave this establishment 4-stars because the staff and service was not as quick as I would have liked; although they were nice & I saw no attitude problems from them. They appeared to be working hard in the background but they had LOTS of orders to fulfill due to a Heat/NBA Finals game tonight. I waited at LEAST 30 minutes before they finally took my order. Also, the fact that I practically did everything myself....got my own soda, seated myself, and got my own condiments. Overall, this was a good place & I will be visiting their establishment and eating their food in the future.

Yelp
Maybe because Im island I'm hard on this place, I heard the lady passed it obvious something had to have changed this place. It smelt like a bathroom the closer to the restroom u sat and they had a fan on blowing the air from that direction. The food I wouldn't say it was overrated I was average. All that withstanding it's the service that's the real nail in the coffin, bad service with sub par food is a awful combination
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
Oxtail with the butter beans was great as well as the rice and peas omg you can taste the coconut milk it was so good. I would give it a 5 star but the lady (cashier) up front is not friendly at all
google avatar

Maribel r.

Yelp
Really great oxtail. I ordered takeout, portions were large and the meat fell off the bone and the smell in my car on the drive home was mouth watering. Official, traditional Jamaica delight.

Yelp
This restaurant lost a long time customer today! I only wish that there was an option to give them a ZERO star rating after the crap that the little girl at the front desk pulled on me tonight. Whoever that little girl is should be given a lesson in business etiquette, professionalism and the value of a customer before she is placed at the front desk to answer the phone and interract with the public. She should also recognize that YELP is a public forum by which unhappy former patrons like myself can tell the world about the despicable and unforgiving service that I received at Original Junies Restaurant. There are many other Jamaican restaurants around!!!!

Yelp
Ummm words can't explain how amazing this place is... just look at the photos I've posted! Yummmy!!!!

Thefood C.

Yelp
Presentation of the estovich fish was boring, the taste of the fish was not flavorful, fish wasn't well seasoned, the rice was well cooked with a side of lettuce which was the only thing that tatse good the rice and lettuce.

Yelp
Disgusting!!!!!! My husband and I were so disappointed that we wanted a refund for the tasteless food and waste of $20.00. Don't waste your money or taste buds...

Yelp
Best Oxtail anywhere in Miami! Have it at least once a week with co-workers. This is a small mom and pop place so don't expect regular amenities. I can't speak to other dishes although friends tell me that you can get better chicken at other restaurants in the area BUT when it comes to Oxtail this place is #1. They serve 4-5 massive chunks wrapped around a circular bones that are solid and easy to hold between your thumb and index finger (best enjoyed using your hands) and the meat just slips right off of the bone! Delicious! Other places serve little pieces on mushy bones that makes them easy to eat by accident. Before 3 pm it's served with a type of brown rice which is great with the oxtail gravy over it and then after 3 pm they serve it with a gungo pea rice which has hints of coconut that my co-workers really enjoy! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Good food but can get very expensive. Yelp needs to change that $ to $$$ fast!

Yelp
Everytime I'm in South Florida, i eat at Junies and the food has always been amazing, although the service has always been slow. I came down this time with my family so naturally we're going here because I've been raving about how good the food is here. We took the long drive in traffic from south beach to Junies only to be highly disappointed. The food was nothing like what I remembered, it is now sub-par at best, the oxtails were nothing special, didn't even taste as good as my mom's oxtail, the flavor was lacking, all the pieces I received was fatty, and the portion was too small for the price. The rice grains were not long grain and shelly but mashed up and just not tasty and they charge around $15 for this mess!!! The jerk chicken was worse, it had an odd taste to it, we didn't eat the jerk chicken, I didn't want to insult my taste buds and it was just not worth the space in my tummy so we tossed it out the first chance we got. Service was non existence, they really needed more staff. One girl taking phone orders and also doing the orders of the people walking in, after all 4 of us placed our order & waited 15-20 minute for the food, they told us they don't have any more jerk chicken to fill one of the orders, didn't they know this b4 the food came up? We had to ask 4 times for someone to wipe off the table, she couldn't give me a receipt because "the machine not working" REALLY?!?!?!?! I can't even get a receipt??? There were more things wrong, but you get the idea. This place needs a re-do, it's now less than mediocre and I'll never come back. I'm really upset with myself for wasting all that time driving to and from this place. I should have stayed on South beach or check help. Junies deserve no stars, but lucky for them, yelp requires at least 1, cho!!! There was a jerk van outside called Freddies and he saved the day, his jerk chicken put Junies to shame! goodbye Junies, my love affair with this place is over.
google avatar

KarlaLa L.

Yelp
I love oxtail and this place sure has some good Jamaican food. The reason I only gave it 3 is because the selection here is very small and it's about the only thing I eat here.

K B.

Yelp
Gungo rice & peas were a pleasant surprise! Snapper with carrots onion and pepper was the best around Someone brought me there food to try for the 1st time--all the way to Delray. They didn't like where I was going before and I agreed. The other JA restaurant's food was crap compared to this. You can tel when a place just throws something together Vs one that has quality in the taste and culture. I'll be back! It's worth the hour drive !
google avatar

Finding C.

Yelp
This is the second time that I am buying a meal from this restaurant and each time I am not impressed. The quality of food is not good. It's time for them to step up to the par of other non-Caribbean restaurants - especially with the high price of meals there. Just threw away the food.

Joan L.

Yelp
We love this place. The food is awesome. We had the jerk chicken and curry goat. Bothwere fantastic. The service is bit slow. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
I love June's been coming here for years their Oxtail is the best in miami, warning it's a lil on the spicy side. Their Steak, and Stew peas are good also but they only sell them on certain days. The only knock on June's is the service when they are packed (Friday's are normally super busy) the employees are really nice people but when it gets packed be prepared to wait. But once again the food is great here the oxtail is a must try.

Yelp
Today was the last straw!! The service has always been bad, but my mom "likes" the fri day soup. As I said, the service has always been bad! however today took the cake. What a shame we try to support our own, and it seems as though they just don't know or either care about the service they are LACKING. Hint put ONE PERSON ON THE PHONE AND TEND to the people right in front of you. I will NEVER GO BACK THERE!! I CAN MAKE SOUP FOR MY MOM!

Yelp
After visiting Miami for 25 yrs and finally relocating here, I finally decided to get some Jamaican food from Junie's--a local institution. First, don't wait to go when ur STARVING HUNGRY. By the time you get served your food, you would have died of hunger. You have to plan ahead for your hunger so you don't waste away waiting for your food. I got the fried chicken, fried fish (don't like stew fish) & stew peas. First the good--stew peas was nice. Well seasoned & thick. The fish was fried nice n super crisp the way it should be. Decently seasoned. Somewhat pricey for the size tho. Now the bad. How many times can you kill a chicken?? Well, Junie's managed to kill chickens 2-3 times. What I got wasn't fried chicken--it was chicken jerky. Not a lick of moisture in meat & they use "browning sauce" for failed resuscitation (because overly fried chicken covered in sauce equals stew chicken here ). The crispy skin is the nicest thing I can say abt their fried chicken jerky. Ehh...not impressed and the hype is over-rated. And the wait for food?? Ridiculous. Better food in my and mi aunties kitchen dem.

Kay L.

Yelp
The food had to be the worst Jamaican food I have ever tried in my life... And I'm Jamaican so I guess I'm a hard critic here but seriously would it kill them to add flavor and salt to their food.. They didn't have anything me and my friends wanted but yet the advertised it. They didn't even have spoons . Enough said.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
I had never tried Jamaican food before Junie's, but a Jamaican lady in my ACLS class suggested it. The lady that takes down the orders said that people get hooked on the fried chicken and gravy because they call to put in orders for it as soon as the restaurant opens. haha I believe it because my other classmate tried it for the first time and ended up ordering another plate to go! I decided to try the oxtail and it was definitely a good choice! I'm not sure how to describe the sauce, but it was good and the meat fell off the bone. The rice and beans were a little moist, not dry, but also very good. I really wanted to try the fried chicken the next day that I went, but it wasn't going to be ready for another 20 mins and I was on a time crunch so I went with the oxtail again. That dish just never disappoints. I'm not sure why Junie's has such a low rating... the workers were friendly, the place was clean, and the food was delicious! I'm a new fan of Jamaican food. =)

Antoinette J.

Yelp
Junie's is my favourite caribbean restaurant, I have eaten at others but none can compare to Junie's the food there is very tasty, I have been eating there for years and will continue to do so, Junie thumbs up to you and your staff at 441

Sean C.

Yelp
Authentic Jamaican food, only get better in Jamaica. Pack lots of patience because they are running on island time and they make everything fresh.
