Iconic Dishes in Philly | Eater Philly

"This South 11th Street shop has been around since the 1920s, and can do just about any hoagie well — may as well go with the classic stuffed with Italian meats. It’s also a good bet for catering." - Maddy Sweitzer-Lamme

Was craving a chicken cutlet hoagie, so I stopped in. I wouldn’t consider what I got to be cutlets, they were more like chicken tenders. They weren’t thin or golden brown, the way I prefer. They were under seasoned too. It felt like a wawa chicken tender hoagie. The bread was decent, love a seeded roll. Service was ok and atmosphere is what you’d expect. Overall, I don’t think I’d come back.

Google
Decent sandwich one of the softest hoagie rolls I’ve ever had in my life. The meat was also tasty and sliced thin, almost shaved, just how I like it. Would definitely go again

I ordered on Tuesday 7:30pm June 24 -2025 I ordered one small turkey hoagie and one large turkey Hoagie they both came they both were the same size small and of course I didn’t get tomatoes this was my first time ordering from this location. I usually order from the other location, but I decided to give this location a try ..I won’t come to this location Or order anything from here again …train your people to start doing the right thing How do you charge me for a large ? And give me a smal? Then on top of that Forgot my tomatoes! Don’t ask me to give you another try or any of that I don’t care about free nothing or given another try This is my money I spent on something that I didn’t get But still paid for the same amount !

Just left the store and was amazed as soon as I walked in the door and smelled how fresh everything smelled. The store is clean the sandwiches look delicious. I had the pleasure of speaking with one of the owners who was funny and had a great personality. This is definatly a place you want to come to over and over again.

We stopped here for an early lunch. Love that they slice the deli meat right in front of you. The shop was very clean and felt homey even with its ceiling being very high. They had hot and cold sandwiches, chips, tons of drinks, pasta salad, cole slaw, and more. The rolls were so fresh and a small hoagie for $9 is a steal. The small hoagie is very filling.

I stopped in today for lunch with a colleague. There was a decent-sized line that almost deterred us from ordering, but with a TV playing sports, we decided to wait it out. To our surprise, the line moved fast! Both of our hoagies were delicious—generously filled, and the seeded Italian rolls were fresh and crisp. We will definitely be back again Monday!

Went into the shop and these guys were so nice! Gave me two fresh loaves of bread and a bag of chips on the house. The place has some of the freshest ingredients in Philly! I ordered an old fashioned and had no sauce and this Hoagie is easily one of the best I’ve had. This is what I imagine when someone says local business in Philly. They need more signage out front though because everyone should experience this place! Owner seemed so nice too! Place looked spotless clean. I know you might see that other review but let me tell you if she had actually went into the business she would have had a DIFFERENT experience. Hate to see a review that could have been solved with the owner and arguably has nothing to do with the business. This place is a GEM and I’m sure the guys inside would have corrected a wrong if talked to!

I just discovered my new go-to lunch destination, and I'm blown away! The Chicken Cutlet Hoagie is out of this world—crispy, flavorful, and made with the freshest ingredients. Every bite was perfection. On top of that, the staff is incredibly friendly and down-to-earth, making the whole experience even better. If you haven’t been yet, you’re seriously missing out!

Yelp
Ricci's was having a $10 hoagie sale on a monday a week or 2 ago so I went and picked up 4 to take to my family. I got 1 turkey, 2 italian, and an eggplant. Everyone loooved the turkey and the italian. No one really wanted to eat the eggplant so I won't get that one again (this might be due to my family and not Ricci's fault haha). Everyone thought the bread was fantastic. All the meat was freshly sliced for the hoagies while I waited. They had some nice options for toppings. They originally rang the sandwiches up incorrectly but I had them correct the pricing before I paid.

Yelp
Do not eat here. I bit into my hoagie and almost swallowed a piece of jagged plastic. Unbelievable.

Yelp
If I could give a million stars I would. The customer service is unmatched and the hoagies are some of the best I've ever had!

Yelp
Such a great experience! I ordered a turkey and cheese hoagie with Herr's chips. It was absolutely delicious. For toppings, I got lettuce, tomatoes, salt, pepper, oregano, and pickles. The service was fast and the place clean. I'll be back!

Yelp
I walked in and was greeted by a super friendly staff at peak lunch hour. The deli was noticeably clean. Herr's chips offered a vast variety of choices to complement your sandwich needs. I ordered a honey turkey hoagie, pepper jack cheese, LTO, mayo and seasoning. To start, the Liscio's seeded roll tasted like it was days old. Thin sliced Dietz & Watson lunch meat sat inside the roll layered with shaved lettuce, tomato and onion. My hoagie was overly coated with mayo and also lacked seasonings. Overall it beats Wawa but not by much.

Yelp
I had the smoked turkey hoagie and enjoyed it! It was a pretty standard hoagie but lots of good options there

Yelp
The prices are way too high, and I was pretty grossed out that they leave the deli meats for sandwiches out on a cutting board all day instead of keeping them refrigerated

Yelp
Just left "Original" Ricci's and was not impressed. They are using a Liscio's roll and they freshly shave the deli meat on spot. Friendly staff and great customer service too. That unfortunately is where the good ends. Stainless steel bowls of thinly sliced tomatoes, pickles, shredded iceberg lettuce adorn the counter in front of you as you watch your subpar "hoagie" being made. It's wrapped up, barely seasoned and off you go, wasting $20.

Yelp
This is the spot. It doesn't get better than this. Order the "Old Fashion" with "The Works" and it will not disappoint.

Yelp
For several years we travelled 15 miles to the original Ricci's Hoagie shop at 11th and Innis in south Philly to get hoagies. As we age. we tend to forget things. Realizing that I had not been to Ricci;s for quite some time, it came back to me Today, the exact reason why we STOPPED travelling the great distance for a mediocre subpar hoagie. Today, I purchased two Italian Hoagies, but to our disappointment - again, we found, Ricci's hoagies are No Longer Special. The meats are not of good grade or quality. The lettuce is disgustingly shredded, tomatoes are tissue thin, and the rolls are truly, inferior hoagie rolls. Simply put Ricci's Hoagies now in present time SUCKS!!! Neither my husband nor I ate more than a couple of bites from the hoagies. We trashed the sandwiches. It is SOOO disappointing when restaurants with good following and reputations, ruin it all to increase their bottom line. I can only guess that when their business decline significantly, they will try to re-group and offer quality shit like they had done for many years, but I also quess it will be too late then, and they will either go bankrupt or sell the business. Ricci, if you read this review, think back to the products you used before the pandemic, and go back to those. People don't mind paying for quality shit. Then you can raise your prices, otherwise, you're headed for ruin. We truly miss what used to be an especially good Hoagie from Ricci's. I'm just saying!
