Guess whose back? Back again? No, I'm not talking about our good pal, Eminem (besides, did he ever REALLY leave?). I'm talking about one of the best Thai spots in the East San Fernando Valley, Original Thai. This local favorite held a long-time, unassuming spot in a plaza alongside a 7/11 at the Tujunga/Riverside(Camarillo) intersection next to the 101 on-ramp. Although this ex-location sounds sketch - it didn't stop Original Thai from being AMAZING. Unfortunately, they closed for a couple years with their real estate being taken over by another - and probably incomparable - Thai eatery. But Original Thai is back! Back again!
Cue the Hallelujah-chorus because Original Thai has reopened after its hiatus in the Noho Arts District near the Magnolia/Lankershim intersection and changed its moniker to Original Thai Noho. Rest assured, it IS indeed the same owners, staff, etc (trust me, I asked). Don't ask me why they closed and moved (rent issues?) because I have no clue and am simply thanking my lucky stars that they are back and in the same general, mileage area. This location is busy-busy and tricky with parking but street meters and some paid lots are available. Luckily, I live within walking distance.
My re-introduction to Original Thai Noho took place as a delivery Uber Eats order so I can't comment on the esthetics of the restaurant or the customer service of the staff (although I DO plan to dine-in) but I can firmly attest to my experience still being absolutely orgasmic.
Original Thai's entire menu has always been perfection. You couldn't go wrong with whatever you chose whether a soup, a curry, a rice or noodle dish. Even with everything being delicious; they were known for their Pad Thai being the biz-ness. I know, I know: simple dish, let's be more unique. But I swear to you that Original Thai's Pad Thai was always A+++. I noticed on the Uber Eats app that Original Thai Noho was running an Uber Eats BOGO special on the Pad Thai ($14). So, that means two orders of Pad Thai for $14 (plus taxes and the Uber Eats fees). That is the deal of the century! At least in LA which is soooo expensive! You bet your bottom dollar that is what I ordered. You can select your own protein for the Pad Thai (chicken, beef, tofu, shrimp which is extra) and I decided on the chicken.
My Pad Thai order was ready quite quickly and I received beautifully presented (even in the Styrofoam containers); steaming entrees of Pad Thai. After a quick stir, I served myself up and holy moly! Original Thai may have closed and re-opened but they did NOT change their recipe or expense the quality of their offerings because this was the BEST Pad Thai, EVER! Not too oily like most other Thai restaurants tend to fall, not overly peanut butter-y but a perfectly delicate and yet flavorful noodle dish. The chicken was the right size and tenderness and Original Thai Noho did not skimp on its inclusion. The amazing part was the smoked flavor! I don't know how exactly they give the Pad Thai that smoked flavor but that the element that took this over the top and made it so damn good. The only complaint and this is me stretching to find a fault with Original Thai Noho; is that I would have liked a lime slice to sprinkle the Pad Thai with some acid.
If that BOGO deal wasn't wonderful in itself; Original Thai Noho responded to my Uber Eats "review" with a $3/off coupon on my next order as a thank-you. Are you kidding me?! How incredible are they?! This is exactly what my poor self needs and I will most certainly order again! Original Thai Noho is my new best friend!
Original Thai Noho has retained its awesome-ness even with during its time away with excellent deals/prices, large servings, quick service and humble appreciation of customers. To top it off: absolutely wonderful food (seriously, try the Pad Thai!). I will be ordering again through Uber Eats and plan to dine-in, as well. Original Thai Noho is still the OG. Eminem would be proud.
