Eat and Drink Your Way Around Virginia Beach | Eater

"Perched high atop the Cavalier Hotel, this rooftop restaurant is the perfect vantage point to take in the beauty of Virginia Beach and the surrounding ocean. The contemporary, Asian-inspired restaurant features an open kitchen, sushi bar, and wok station. Start with an order of tuna tartare or wagyu tataki before moving on to main courses like seared local rockfish with braised daikon or sous vide short rib with a kimchi glaze. The bar stirs its Old Fashioned with Japanese whisky, ginger, and chili lime bitters. There’s a dedicated sake menu as well. Orion’s Roof offers brunch every Saturday and Sunday, and a late night menu is available from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. Reservations are required." - Travis Mitchell

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brunch at Orion’s Roof was incredible! The view alone is worth the visit, but the food takes it to the next level. The Korean beef bowl was packed with flavor tender beef, perfectly cooked egg, and tangy kimchi over fluffy rice. The sushi roll was fresh, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor. Service was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere felt upscale yet relaxed. A perfect spot for a memorable brunch with amazing food and stunning scenery!

Reservation only, upscale (even though you'll see people in beach attire), and very nice on the inside of this 23rd top floor restaurant. The food was very good. The portions were a bit small for my taste but the presentation was outstanding. The view is the biggest draw for everyone that visits Virginia Beach. There aren't too many places where you can overlook the beach from this height, especially with the military restrictions on building height. This place will cost quite a bit for its Asian inspired cuisine. I took my wife there to celebrate her birthday and the celebration with two appetizers, one cocktail, one mocktail, one glass of wine, and two entrees racked up $170 before the tip. The desserts looked good but we chose to pass for a walk on the beach and some shopping.

We got the best seat in the house overlooking the ocean and sunset. Although we waited a bit for a table the hostess was so sweet and assured us that we would get a great table and she pulled through. Our waiter was very kind and welcoming. The food was delicious and I couldn’t get enough of the oysters. So nom nom!

While visiting Virginia Beach, it was recommended that I visit another rooftop restaurant but they weren't open to the public until Memorial weekend. I was then told about Orion's rooftop which is located inside the Marriott. I'm so glad I was able to experience it because everything went well. You will definitely need a reservation to make sure you gain access to enter. Luckily for me, someone canceled and a spot was made available for me. When my waiter came I had to laugh because he explained the menu like flight attendants show you what to do in case of an emergency. It was so cute. I had the lobster roll and it was so delicious I wound up ordering another one. The sunset view alongside the ocean waves were picture perfect. They have indoor and outdoor seating. This establishment did not disappoint. Don't worry about parking in the garage because they validate up to 2 hours. The one negative thing that happened was when my waiter asked me if I liked my drink (since the glass was still full) I said no and told him why. He took the drink back and I thought he would've taken if off my bill but later realized I was still charged for it...

Spend my 30th birthday dinner at this beautiful restaurant. The service is top notch and it obviously has the most breathtaking view of the ocean and city, I truly believe there’s no bad seat in this whole place because of the way it was designed. We got the salmon taco as app, short rib and crab cake as main, while everything is tasty and beautifully presented, we both left feeling a bit heavy since both dishes and the side vegetables are somewhat oily. It might just be the dishes we ordered though. We are definitely still excited to come back again when we visit Virginia Beach in the future.

Great Views, But Alarmingly Close to a Dangerous Fire Hazard. I had a late lunch at Orion's Roof during my stay at the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront Resort. The views from the 23rd floor are absolutely stunning, as expected. The food was decent, a fairly typical experience where the quality of the meal is acceptable but not outstanding, often compensating for a truly exceptional view – which this place certainly has. However, my dining experience was severely tainted by the direct observation of a severe safety hazard just steps away from the restaurant. The emergency stairwell (Stairwell B), located prominently in the middle of Orion's Roof restaurant, was completely blocked for over 48 hours during my hotel stay. On July 2nd, immediately after dining, my party attempted to use this stairwell to return to our room, only to find it entirely impassable due to massive amounts of mattresses, garbage, and other hotel equipment. I verbally reported this specific obstruction to the restaurant staff at that time, in addition to the front desk. While the primary blockage was eventually cleared, other hotel equipment and garbage continued to obstruct the path for the remainder of my stay. Additionally, the other emergency stairwell (Stairwell A), located near the host station, was consistently cluttered with various items. This direct violation of fire safety standards, right next to a high-traffic restaurant, is incredibly concerning. While the restaurant itself offers great views and decent food, the alarming proximity to such blatant and persistent fire safety violations makes me question the overall safety culture of this establishment. I hope these critical issues are addressed immediately.

Wagyu tartare – 5/5, so good. Dumplings – just okay, nothing special. Short rib – could be great, but needs way more flavour. Crab cakes – too salty, hard to enjoy. Cocktails – 5/5, amazing. Atmosphere – 5/5, sunset into moonlight was beautiful.

I went with my 6yr old and we had an absolutely stellar experience. We had the oysters, mussels, my son had the scallops and I had the duck confit. Our server was Steven Kroll and he was amazing. The freezer wasn’t working so we didn’t get to try the Shibuya sadly but everything else was wonderful. We had no complaints and my son gave it a 5 star review which is big for him because he is extremely detail oriented.

Yelp
Huge shout-out to our server Sean. He was very informative and knowledgeable about the menu, as well as welcoming and positive throughout the entire meal. The atmosphere was warm and made us feel right at home. There are lots of options on the menu. I came for lunch earlier in the year, but dinner transforms the restaurant into a dimly lit masterpiece with bold flavors. The duck confit rolls were tangy and paired perfectly with a smooth orange sauce. The seared salmon was a standout, a perfect balance of savory and sweet. The Pad Thai was delicious too, with bold flavors that paired tremendously with everything else. And the whole fish was buttery smooth, complemented by a tangy garlic sauce. The service has been outstanding every time I've visited, which is consistent. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone visiting Virginia Beach in search of a great dinner with an even better view.

Yelp
I'd heard people call Orion's Roof "just average," but I honestly couldn't disagree more. We came for lunch and had a fantastic experience. The seafood was fresh fresh, the sushi was brilliant, and I'm still thinking about the crab rangoons -- possibly the best I've ever had. My husband had the poké bowl and said it was phenomenal. Everything felt thoughtful and well-executed, from the food to the service. The rooftop view just seals the deal -- stunning. It was a relaxed vibe during lunch, which we loved. I also really appreciated their nonalcoholic drink menu -- actual effort went into it, which is rare. I totally get why some people consider Orion's one of the best restaurants in the Mid-Atlantic. You've gotta try it at least once.

Yelp
Review for Orion's Roof Garden & Dining - Fireworks, Flavor, and Fancy Vibes Perched on the 23rd floor of the Marriott like a crown jewel on the Virginia Beach strip, Orion's Roof is giving penthouse energy with its wide, open layout and almost-floor-to-ceiling windows that practically dare the sun to set in style. The space is smartly arranged -- max capacity without max chaos -- so you don't feel like you're dining in someone else's lap. We lucked out with a prime-time table on the Fourth of July -- yes, that Fourth -- where we could catch fireworks from both sides of the beach. The views? Pure cinematic drama. All we needed was a soundtrack and a wind machine. Now, this place was packed -- and I mean elbow-to-elbow, let-me-squeeze-past-you realness. But somehow, the service team held it down. Servers were tag-teaming, filling in for each other like Olympic relay runners, making sure tables were fed, watered, and pampered. Since we'd already been indulging in an appetizer adventure elsewhere (we were on a full-blown restaurant crawl, don't judge), we kept it cute and classy here: a soft-shell crab roll that strutted onto the plate like it knew it was the star, duck confit egg rolls that were crispy on the outside and luxurious inside, and a side of broccolini that made us feel a tiny bit healthy. We paired it with sparkling mineral water and a watermelon mocktail that was giving spa day meets summer picnic. The vibe? Elevated. The view? Iconic. The experience? One to bookmark for next year's fireworks. Or honestly, any night you want to eat like a beachside boss.

Yelp
Came here with low expectations based on what I've heard from friends and glad I did because their reviews matches our experience. Views of the beach are nice, of course. But service and price for food versus the quality, not worth it. We had the weirdest experience with our server. She started out by giving us water but disappeared. 45 minutes later, a new server came by to tell us the other one had to go home and she'd be taking over. But she came to us with weird energy and just rubbed us the wrong way. And towards the end of the night, we saw our original server was still in the restaurant so what was that even about?! It took 50 minutes from the start of our reservation to put drink orders in, at that point we put all food orders in as well. The food wasn't terrible but most of it was not great. Would not recommend the crab rangoons at all. The edamame was overly salted in my opinion but others liked it. Highlights for me were the donut dessert and the Tequila old fashioned. Would maybe come back for just drinks and dessert in the future.

Yelp
I feel bummed that I'm only giving this spot 3 stars because the service and the view were amazing! The food though was mediocre at best, especially because it was so expensive! The only good thing was the singaporean noodles. As far as sushi, there was just too much sauce! You couldn't really taste the fish or whatever else they put in there.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate a special occasion. According to their website, reservations are required, and my husband I showed up a little before our 7:30 pm reservation but had to wait until almost 8 pm to be seated. While we waited, I asked the hostess twice if we could grab a drink from the bar, and was told we could not, because we would be seated soon, but then we still waited almost a half hour. We noticed they were taking walk-ins and adding people to a wait list, although the website says reservations are required. Their website also says the dress code is "smart casual", which we followed, but many people were dressed casually in flip flops, baseball caps, athletic shorts, T-shirts with loud designs on them, etc., changing the entire atmosphere. Once seated, we ordered drinks and food, all of which were good. The salmon crudo and rockfish entree were our favorites, well-prepared, flavorful, and plated nicely. However, during dinner, there was a toddler in a high chair repeatedly yelling two tables away, which really hurt the ambiance and was very strange to see during a 9-10 pm timeframe. This was definitely not the experience we wanted for an anniversary dinner, and we were disappointed with their false advertising - the restaurant could have been up front about what to expect, and if it's a casual kid-friendly place, so be it. The food and drinks were good, but not enough to make up for their overall ineffectiveness and disorganization.

Yelp
I always love coming here on business trips when my company will allow me to stay at the Marriott :-) Consistently excellent food, service, amazing views, wonderful sushi and seafood dishes. I normally go for their rockfish entree, perhaps some sushi or other appetizers. The views are simply unparalleled, great for groups or solo dining. Normally around 5 PM or so the bar is pretty quiet so good for a solo diner if that is your style. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Visited this place on the first week of June. Loved the place, the view, the food was amazing with freshness of the ocean. The waiter was friendly and treated us well with detailed descriptions from menu. Adding a few photos here . The Bronzino was my personal favorite! No reservation with availability.

Yelp
The food was just ok. The sushi rolls were not rolled very well they fell apart and the pork fried rice - where was the pork? The service was disturbing. We had a reservation the same time as another couple we arrived first. They say them in the main dining area while seating us in the back area near the kitchen with not a great view. This same area had everyone of the same race seated there. Very odd when there were seats open in the main seating area. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Orion's is a bit all over the place. Food = 3/5 Service = 5/5 Ambiance = 4/5 We came here to celebrate both mine and my husband's birthdays on a Wednesday evening. We ordered the Rhu Berrymore and Chill Pill to start. Both drinks were VERY good! We also started with the calamari and crab rangoon chopsticks. Also very delicious! The overall decor here is....strange. It's like they combined farmhouse chic with 90s luxury. Whoever designed the space should be fired, IMO. Haha! For entrees, I had the crabcakes and my husband ordered the filet, but they were out. So, he was stuck with the ribeye. When both came out, we were super disappointed. He ordered medium and got well done. The crabcakes were charred to a crisp. But I ate them anyway. We told our server about the ribeye and he was more than kind and we were also visited by the manager who comped us a drink. Now THAT is great service!! I only wish their food matched. We would return to have a drink, but the food just isn't worth it, I'm afraid.

Yelp
Made reservations online for our anniversary dinner - asked for a romantic private table with ocean view. When we got to the restaurant, we had to wait 15 mins to be seated and were taken to the tiny two-top squeezed between several other two-tops of people rubbing elbows while eating...no view. We asked for another more private table with the he ocean view and the hostess had to "check with the manager". She came back saying there are no other tables available when clearly there were several two-tops nearby where we led ourselves to, begrudgingly followed by the unhelpful hostess. Our server was sweet and helpful. We ordered a couple of overpriced drinks and two apps (duck confit eggrolls and tuna poke nachos), which were delicious and came out pretty fast. I then ordered crab cakes and my husband got the swordfish, which he hated - it as flavorless, and way overcooked. A very nice manager, Noel, stopped by to apologize and my husband chose the blackened cod instead, which was tasty. We skipped dessert and decided to get an espresso martini on the patio. The martinis were good, but you couldn't sit on the patio. It was used as an overflow dining room and you had to get back on the waiting list to get a spot there. We ended up huddling by the statue and taking a few pix, then left. We may give it another try after the tourist season is over; overall - cool vibe, but not special enough experience for the money we spent. FYI, park in the hotel garage and get your ticket validated at the machine by the restaurant before you leave.

Yelp
-Requested a reservation midday and there was tons of availability for late evening. -Saturday night and there was a DJ starting at 10pm and it seems as if no reservation was needed in that outdoor area. It was more of a rooftop bar. Didn't interfere with the indoor vibes or the music. -Food was good and menu items are items and combinations that may not be a thought in other nearby restaurants. Definitely an experience. -Really good portions and like the server said everything is fresh on the menu to include the crab meat for the sushi rolls. -pricing is as expected for "an experience" date. -parking garage was full but there was availability for reservations. Parking garage gets validated for 2 hrs and valet parking is always an option as well.

Yelp
We had a rooftop dinner at Orion's and it was an experience! The view was so amazing and our waiter was very well informed of the history of the restaurant, the food, menu, and the head chef. We started with the Waygu appetizer but ate it so quickly there was no picture but it is a must try. We got the spicy tuna roll but I could have done without it even though it was a specialty item. The best was the lobster and shrimp roll, I could have ate 5 more if I had a larger stomach. To top it all off the desert was also a must try, Krispy Kreme bread pudding was top tier so make sure you leave room for that! While we ate we got to watch the dolphins swim by, such a fun experience and a highly recommended stop in VA beach!

Yelp
We sat at the bar and although it wasn't full , everyone seemed very busy. One thing about Orion's Roof the view is always gorgeous. We had a couple of cocktails that were flavor explosions and refreshing . It took a while to order but I had a Tempura shrimp roll and it was pretty good.

Yelp
I'ts all hype. Orion's Roof really did not leave me wanting to come back. In the end its all hyped up because of location and view. But, just like a wedding cake it needs to both be delicious and pretty. Orion's Room was pretty, but the food was meh. I splurged and ordered the lobster. It really was delicious. So many great flavors meeting together with melted butter than painted over the lobster. My dessert was ok. Nothing to write home about. Our waitress was great. She was very attentive and helped up answer any questions. The bathroom set up is kind of cool. I like the dark feel to it. Leave enough time to navigate parking, and dress a little nicer.

Yelp
Went to the rooftop last week and didn't have a reservation. It is on the 23rd floor, so the views are amazing. We were told it would be a 5-10 minute wait, however it did take a little longer. The restaurant was packed, however; the outside patio was open for drinks only; not food. Wanted calamari for an appetizer, however, they ran out. We ended up getting oysters, which were pretty decent. They came with some sort of onion sauce? Which i wasn't a fan of. For the entree, I ended up getting crabcakes and vegetables, which were good and i had enough for leftovers, and my friend ended up getting two drinks and a steak entree. They don't have any A1 sauce, btw lol.

Yelp
We definitely ate with our eyes--our table was packed thanks to the wide selection. Portions were generous and everything was hearty and flavorful. We started with a side salad and the octopus salad, which surprised my fiancé--he wasn't expecting an entire tentacle! It's a must-try for anyone feeling adventurous. For mains, we had the duck confit and seared salmon, and also shared a few sushi rolls. The surf and turf roll topped with wagyu was definitely a standout. We requested a view of the ocean, and the staff did not disappoint--it made the experience even more special.

Yelp
Legitimately one of the best experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. The ambiance is fantastic and we were seated in the bar area. The waitress was the kindest waitstaff I have ever had in my life. The food was the most scrumptious food ever. It's a heavier type of meal that will fill you up when you're done eating, but you won't feel heavy and sluggish. It's somehow light but filling. I have been here numerous times and I absolutely make it a plan to come back every time I am in the area. I recommend dressing up a bit as well, it is on the nicer side. My sister and I were also gifted an order of the crab rangoon chopsticks dish on house, I am not sure why but they were incredibly good!

Yelp
If you are looking to splurge a little and dress up from some asian fusion and views, then this is your place! On one of the top floors of an oceanfront hotel, this restaurant is definitely worth the price for its view of the entire Virginia Beach. Along with that the service is absolutely amazing. The waiters and waitresses are all kind, knowledgeable, and helpful. Food wise, they are definitely known for their sushi rolls so I would highly recommend getting at-least one of those but if you want something else just know they have a variety of options to choose from almost all asian inspired. Great date location and you get free two hour parking if you scan the ticket for the hotel garage at the front of the restaurant. Highly recommend making a reservation as well.

Yelp
Love the rooftop dining at Orion's, and i appreciate that they take reservations. Great food and drinks and welcoming ambience.

Yelp
Five of us where in the area and chose this location for lunch. We were there in the off season, so parking and crowds were not really an issue. You can park in a parking deck and get it validated at the restaurant. If you get seated by a window, the view is fantastic. You can see the beach and ocean for a long ways! All of us got various lunch orders and the food was good.

Yelp
I went to brunch at Orion's with my family from out of town this past Sunday. I was running late but was immediately warmly greeted by the manager. He took me to where my family was seated and we had a nice little conversation on the way. My seat was a little cold because of the breeze blowing through the walkway between the middle seating area and back seating area. I didn't catch the server's name but she was lovely. She didn't rush us. She let us take our time ordering and was on top of everything (even with a full section). I ordered the Eggs Benedict with crab cake from the brunch menu. The yoke wasn't at all runny, unfortunately, but that's just me being picky. Other than that it was delicious and the perfect amount of food. If you don't like heights, maybe this isn't the place for you. As for me, the view was gorgeous and the atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxing. I'll be back :)

Yelp
Went here for my niece's birthday. Had a really nice view overlooking the beach. Server was super nice and we enjoyed her service. The food was mostly good. We tried 2 appetizers the calamari and the crab cheese wonton chopsticks. Those were the best things we ordered. Our server also threw in a free veggie roll and it was actually pretty good. Minus one star cos we ordered the crab cakes entree and them thangs were tiny and there were only 2 of them, for 40$, ain't no way, lol, still good though and the pasta I ordered was mid, like a 6/10. And the person that ordered the duck was disappointed in their meal but I didn't try it so I can't speak on it. Recommend to try once or for a special occasion.

Yelp
Ambiance was spectacular with the Christmas decorations and panoramic views on the 23rd Floor of the Atlantic Ocean and the Cavalier all lit up. Being Christmas night we were so excited to get a table. Our waiter was very friendly and easy going. He had a great personality. He said he was normally a bartender. The food was good. We started with a Grilled Corn Elote, street corn type appetizer with chips for dipping. The corn mixture was under seasoned and some of the chips were soft, not crisp. But overall nice dish. That's the reason for 4 stars. My daughter ordered a Bento Box for my one year old grandson. The fries were perfectly crispy and well seasoned. That's all he really ate but was happy. There was also hanger steak, celery, carrots and a salad. Good value for $20. I had a tempura shrimp sushi roll and it was as good as I've ever had for that particular roll. I ordered a Caesar salad but never got it however I was pleasantly full so it didn't matter. For dessert we had the Mile High Cake, a chocolate layer cake shaped like a high rise building. It had an espresso icing which was delicious. Fun place to go.

Yelp
The views from Orions roof are stunning. I had reservations and we were seated quickly. Our waitress was really friendly and took her time going through the menu. Being it was our first time, my friend and I got a little bit of everything. For appetizers we got the shumai, salt and pepper calamari and the duck confit egg rolls. For main entrees I got the seared salmon and my friend tried a few of the specialty rolls. And of course by recommendation we had to try the famous Cavalier Mike high cake. Overall the food was good, but not great. I expected a little more for the price but you are definitely paying for the views and experience with Orions Roofs. It would be perfect for a date night or happy hour though.

Yelp
Honestly if you come for the views and drinks you're set. If you want anything else, you are probably better off somewhere else. We came for Mother's Day brunch and left disappointed to say the least. Our service was phenomenal. Justin just started and he was amazing. He recommended which drinks we should order based off our preferences, and they were solid choices. The view of the beach stretches out for miles, ands it's a nice backdrop when the suns out! The food was lacking. We ordered the firecracker cauliflower, this sausage brioche and egg bowl, and sushi. The cauliflower was so large that it was undercooked, and was difficult to bite through. We ended up having to switch it out for the Caesar, but the lettuce was cut so haphazardly and ends of the lettuce that shouldn't have been in there were tucked under the too sweet miso sauce. The lettuce was browning and still soaked from the rinse. The special menu item with the duck sausage was so strange. It was runny throughout, the sausage was cold, and the brioche was sopping wet. It wasn't edible. The sushi was the in the only saving grace. Maybe because it was Mother's Day they were having a tough time, though the restaurant wasn't very full.

Yelp
This restaurant is located at the top of the building and has an amazing view of the beach! You have to park in the garage, but they will validate parking for 2 hrs. I got the garlic parm wings ($15), hongkong toast($19), and country fried steak($18). The wings were a great size and cooked perfectly. The garlic parm sauce was quite good, it had a bit of a sour taste from the garlic which surprised be a bit. The country fried steak was breaded and fried quite well, and i was surprised that it wasn't crazily salty. The gravy had the right saltiness to go along the fried steak. The staff were friendly with giving recommendations. The highlight is the amazing view of the beach and skyline at the restaurant height! Overall I had an excellent meal at a good price and portion size. Food(50%): 8.5 Staff/service(25%): 8.0 Value(25%): 9.0 Overall: 8.5/10

Yelp
This is my second visit and I always recommend people to come in they want an elevated experience in Virginia Beach. This restaurant not only has a beautiful view from the 23rd floor of the Marriott. The customer service is top notch, and the drinks are really good. The surf & turf sushi roll keeps me coming back. It's a little expensive, but worth it.

Yelp
As much as I wanted to love this place thanks to the incredible view surrounding us and the crab cake dinner, a rating of 3 stars is a max from me. We were a bit late for our reservation but the staff could still get us a table relatively quick so that was a plus. although there's a dressing code and all that fancy stuff, the restaurant is not entirety quiet and the vibe was pretty chill. The prices of their food were relatively fair considering most of their food are seafood and wagyu based, and it's a rooftop restaurant at Marriott. However, I just think the menu items were all over the place and it's giving me cheesecake factory or Maggie Mcfly vibe. Most of the appetizers were Japanese style, and the entrées were new American style, a tiny section of Chinese takeout type of food, then there's a page of sushi rolls and nigiris... It might just ne my personal opinion/preference, but if I am feeling of having Japanese food, I'd want a full Japanese menu. If I want New-American style food, I'd want that. If I want some fried rice and mei fun, I'm getting to-go from the Chinese take out place elsewhere with a cheaper price... Anyhow, my bf and I ordered the Spicy Lobster & Shrimp roll as an appetizer, I ordered the crab cake dinner and my bf ordered the fall special flounder that comes with some sort of caramel sauce and greens underneath. We ordered the sushi roll because we heard their excessive chef was a sushi chef for a long time. "Disappointing" with the Spicy lobster & Shrimp roll is an understatement. There was way too much sauce and I couldn't taste the lobster. The shrimp inside the sushi was pathetically slim and the tempura batter was cold and not crunchy. The only credit that I could give to this sushi roll was the fish eggs on top were fresh. The Fall special flounder that my bf got, both of us didn't like the sauce at all. The fish itself was pretty decent tho. The outside of the fish was crunchy and the fish tasted fresh. Flounder is a relatively mild fish, so the sauce that pairs with it is the main character. The ccaramel sauce that came with the fish didn't go well with the fish at all. We don't know what it was, but they just didn't go well together. My bf had to ask for some remoulade sauce to finish up his fish. Now it comes Orion's redeem time. The crab cake that I ordered other than the view was the best thing throughout our dinner. FiFirst off it was placed nicely, and every ingredients were very fresh. The crab cakes were packed with crab meat, and the renoulade went very well with them. We finished up with the Cavalier's Mile High Cake and a bowl of chocolate ice cream on the house for my birthday. The Mile High Cake was really nothing special. It's supposed to taste like bourbon, espresso and chocolate according to the menu, but all I tasted was a good chocolate cake. The ice cream however was pretty chocolaty. Overall based on the view and the crab cake, it's worth going there for a nice dinner once in a while. But it's a matter of ttime that I'm tired of crab cakes and I would have no idea what else I would like from Orion's Roof.

Yelp
This is a review for their BRUNCH only. I went for brunch for the first time today, and I don't think I would come again. I like the ambiance better at night than during the day, but I will say the terrace is lovely for a beautiful day. The food disappointed. We had a party of 17, so I tried a variety of dishes, and they were average at best. The only thing everyone agreed on being good with no issues were the sushi dishes. My entree was the short ribs with eggs, and the description is super deceiving. What I thought I would be getting was a plate of short ribs and scrambled eggs with a bao bun. What I got was 2 small slider sized bao buns with a tiny piece of short rib and a small chunk of egg on each one. While the waiter warned me this was a small entree, he should've advised the description is not what you think. It is more of a small plate or appetizer than a $17 meal. The only saving grace this afternoon were the drinks were all made very well. However, they are pricey. The wait staff was very nice, attentive, and informative. I expected a lot more because dinner is so great. This will be my first and last time attending for brunch! Oh and if you come with a large party, be informed they cannot do more than 2 checks. So be prepared as far as who will be the one to pay. We had 2 bills of over $500 each.

Yelp
The service here was amazing! Our server was polite and we had tons of questions and requests. I highly recommend the whole snapper. It comes fried and full of flavor. I went here for date night, but need to go back during the day to experience the beach views

Yelp
Food was very good. Especially, the coconut rice, chicken soup. And green salad. Dining service was very attentive and courteous . Ambiance very quiet with beautiful view. Then only thing that didn't sit well with me. No one acknowledged me for about 7-10 minutes me standing at desk waiting. It was busy. Staff that was nearby could had said, someone will be with you. But they looked and kept doing there thing.

Yelp
A lovely restaurant! We came with an infant, the staff was very considerate -- a table with more space to fit the stroller and no steps to climb. We asked for a high chair and one was promptly brought. There was also a very comfortable changing table by the restroom, not one of the hard uncomfortable ones that we usually see. The interior design of the place was very nice as well. We had sushi, a salad, a few hors-d'œuvres, and dessert. Everything was tasty, I even loved the green tea tiramisu even though I'm not a fan of green tea. The bill was the biggest surprise -- way less than expected for the amount of food and drinks we ordered. We'll be back and we'll recommend it to friends!

Yelp
The services was excellent she helped pick out a cocktail and wasn't pushy at all. This place has a great ambiance because you have the ocean view. Suggest ordering the crab cake sandwich , it was very yummy! This place is great during lunch not very busy and get to enjoy the area.

Yelp
The views here and the food are insane! You get a vibe of the whole boardwalk and ocean anywhere you sit. There's indoors and outdoor seating, I personally prefer indoors next to the window. The calamari and spicy garlic edamame are great to start with! For the main dish I love the seared salmon and firework salmon roll!! The staff is so friendly and the service here is great !

Yelp
What a fun restaurant with amazing views! I have heard a lot about this restaurant, but never made it out. Parking was a bit hard to find and you have to have a reservation, or they won't let you into the parking garage. That was kind of a pain for me because I didn't make the reservation, so I had to pull to the side and wait for my friend to text me a screenshot of the reservation confirmation. Anyways! Once you park, make sure you bring your parking ticket inside because they will pay for your parking! I didn't know this in advance so had to go back down to my car and then back up to the restaurant. The food was very good. It is mainly sushi and noodles. The sushi was expensive, but delicious. It was a nice place to try, but I honestly wouldn't go back. It was a fun experience, but I think you can get more food at the same quality for that price at other spots along the beach.

Yelp
4 of us stopped for brunch on Sunday. We have eaten here before and the food was quite good. Things were different on this trip. It is still a beautiful location and view. We started off with some drinks. All were pretty good, but the prices are really, really steep. Lagavulin 16 for $99 for a double? The entire bottle is $99. That's a little ridiculous. The hamachi was good, but not a fan when the girl that cleared the dish dumped the chili oil and soy sauce all over my son in law. The oysters were good, but not opened very well as every single oyster had shell in it. I had the shrimp and grits; not good. My wife had pot stickers that were cold. SIL and daughter had equally average dishes. The worst part about the whole meal was the service. It was crazy slow. Over 2 hours from brunch was way too long. Also, if you dump food on someone, comp a drink or appetizer or make some effort to make it right. Honestly, after this visit...I'm not sure I would go back. That kind of sucks.

Yelp
The view and ambience is great. Our server was very nice. I wish there were more sweet cocktails. If you order a basic martini, they charge $20 (more than any of the special cocktails). The curry soup and pot stickers were really good. Sadly the rockfish sides were terrible (although the fish was good), the scalloped potatoes were so dried out and tasteless and kale was vinegary. Neither went well with the fish so was pricey for what I actually ate. Arincini was weird, didn't work for me. Wish the server had noticed that the sides were basically untouched and offered something else, but she was probably too busy with the loud children running around at the table next to us. Lastly, it was my birthday and they brought a cake, but they charged for that too. Would've been nice to have at least provided that on the house, given how expensive everything else was.

Yelp
The view is amazing! We went on a Tuesday to celebrate my birthday and did not have a reservation because we did not think it would be crowded. However we were able to get great seats for a table of two and only had to wait about 10 minutes, but we did sit at the bar and order drinks until we were seated at our table. The table we had was near the bar area and we had a spectacular view! This restaurant has amazing food! I ordered the shrimp and lobster sushi, which was excellent! I also ordered the snapper along with the Bronzino and for dessert we had the bread pudding! We also had the crab Rangoon, which was lightly refreshing! The sauce for the Bronzino was beyond excellent! I can't wait to go back and try more food and even see more views! We went around 6:30 which was perfect because we were able to see the great views along with the sunset. We did valet so I would definitely recommend doing valet because I'm not sure where you would park.

Yelp
Service was amazing and great vibes. I just liked my mussels. The dipping sauce in the bowl was amazing

Yelp
Had a great meal at Orion's! I ordered the 7 Spice Ahi, shrimp shumai, and sweet chili glazed salmon...all was delicious! Service was a bit slower but very friendly. Drinks were delicious too. You can't beat the ambiance and view overlooking the stunning ocean and the Virginia Beach boardwalk. The bar had a DJ and is a great place to grab drinks as well!

Yelp
Super cool rooftop with amazing views and yummy food and drinks! We almost come here when we visit the area and are never disappointed! Service is great too. We enjoyed the mussels and rangoons.

Yelp
For those staying at the Cavalier, Marriott, or Embassy, you're probably trying to branch out from the beach club / Tulu food if you're staying for a weekend. I'll say, the view from up here is amazing and worth going at least once while you're here. $6 bloodies and $5 mimosas are hard to beat. The food - at least what we ordered - is a bit of a different story. Ahi bowl was average- the avocados were already browning and wings (pictured) were average. The sushi rolls looked dry but they were eaten. In fact, we ate everything so it wasn't bad per se, but the wait was long and the food just wasn't anything to write home about. I'll be exploring more places to visit by bike next time we come down here. Compared to a lot of the local beach joints, Orions is good. You pay for the view though. Service was very attentive and even steered me away from a dish that people that day "had not enjoyed" which I sincerely appreciate.

Yelp
I just had the worst experience of my life. I was invited to eat there. But the person that invited me was being unpleasant. I decided to ask the server from the start to split the bill because I'm not going to expect someone that is having such a bad time to spend money on me. I could barely eat so I packed my food and ask for the check. The server comes back with the two checks and the other person decides to walk out on the check, I tried to do the right thing by staying around to give the other persons information. When directed to security he is telling me that they just want their money and I should pay for it and if I don't that I would be banned from the property. They didn't even really try getting the other persons information to get the money. But now I am banned from there because I chose not to pay for what I didn't eat. I feel so disrespected. The security man was trying to belittle me and bully me into paying. But on that note I'm okay being banned from a place that couldn't handle things appropriately.

Yelp
Great place to eat with an amazing view. I was lucky enough to call and they had a time slot open but make sure you make a reservation. I think this place with a nice table would look amazing at sunset. Service was really great with our waiter always checking up on us. We ordered the crab Rangoon chopsticks, avocado toast, porksilog and the spicy lobster and shrimp roll. All the food was great. My girlfriend who loves avocado toast said this was the best one she's ever had. Porksilog was really good it just came with a lot of rice.

Yelp
Orion's Roof was recommended to me by a friend recently, so I made a reservation while in town for my birthday! I was promptly sat by the hosts. I was at an interior table so I didn't fully get to appreciate the view but the restaurant does have some nice views from what I could see. Service was very friendly but it took a while (Sunday at dinnertime) so wouldn't suggest coming here if you're in a rush. I ordered the caesar salad with chicken and it was pretty good. I'd order it again. I had the exact same thing last night at another popular VB restaurant for the same price and the Orion's Roof one was loads better in terms of taste and quality of ingredients. The chicken was warm and juicy. So I highly appreciated that it felt worth the cost and that it made a good dinner (unlike the one I had last night). I just wish it had a little more crouton. I also ordered one of the spring cocktails, Chill Pill and I really liked it. It was refreshing. The cocktail menu has color coding to show you the flavor profiles of each drink - which honestly was helpful. For dessert, I had the matcha tiramisu. The server knew it was my birthday (because she checked my DOB when I ordered the drink) so it came out with a candle and a little chocolate on top. Also shout out to the server who brought it out to me and assured me he wasn't going to sing - that was really nice! I enjoyed the tiramisu though I wouldn't mind more matcha! Overall, food was pretty good and I had a nice dessert experience.

Yelp
BRING A VERY WARM SWEATER! Let me start with the positives: 1. The view is gorgeous! It is a beautiful place to see the view. The decor in the restaurant is beautiful. 2. Our server did a good job, and pleasant. The hostess was also very friendly. 3. The calamari was good and properly fried. My watermelon mocktail was also tasty. My daughter's tempura sushi roll was good. The desserts we had to take to go were decent. Krispy Kreme bread pudding and the green tea tiramisu 4. The bathrooms were clean Now for the rest: 1. It is almost impossible to have a good dining experience when you are physically uncomfortable or miserable. The temperature that afternoon was 87 degrees. By the time we went for dinner it was 52 degrees. We were sitting inside next to a window. The air conditioner was blasting, combined with the cold from outside the restaurant felt like a refrigerator. My daughter had a warm hoodie on and was still freezing. The woman sitting across from us agreed that it was cold. The middle of the restaurant, away from the windows was not as cold. I asked twice if something could be done about the temperature. Eventually, I was told that the air conditioner was lessened from 68 degrees to 70 degrees. That made the temperature go from really cold to really cold. Who blasts air conditioning when it is 53 degrees outside?????? Evidently they do.... 2. Apparently it was a busy weekend because many of the items on their menu were not available. So make sure you have a back up order if what you want is not available. 3. I did not enjoy any of the other food I had. The elote, their own version of the delightful Mexican street snack was not good. It was drowned in a heavy bland dressing that did nothing to enhance the dish. I took my leftovers home and rinsed off the dressing to allow me to eat the edamame and corn. I also had the bone marrow appetizer/ waygu appetizer. Again, the dish was very bland. I had to ask for salt, which only helped a little. If you want an amazing bone marrow appetizer and are in DC I recommend Minetta Tavern. It is absolutely sublime there. For my entree I had the scallops, which had too much salt. The mushrooms were tough. And the starch that it came with it was tasteless, mushy and creamy not enjoyable. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. My bill for 1 adult and 2 kids was about $200. It was money I would have much rather spent elsewhere. If you do go I recommend: -Bringing something very very warm to wear. Think Antarctica. -Getting drinks only or sticking with calamari or some basic sushi Upon leaving, after paying my bill, I did respectfully express all my concerns to the general manager. His only response, which he kept repeating was: "We will take your feedback into consideration. I hope you will come again and give us another chance" I am not sure why in the world I would subject myself again to an environment where I physically felt miserable because I was so cold and pay so much money for food I didn't like.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday dinner with the family. At first it was off to a rocky start, with our reservation being put in the bar area rather than the main dining room. Once the manager realized what happened they corrected the seating and put us on the main floor. After that we all had some amazing drinks, and ate a lot of great food. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion or just wanting to get out and enjoy the view with a drink!

Yelp
Service was excellent. We didn't have reservations and were seated outside. It's was very windy however we managed and enjoyed the views of VA beach and the ocean ship traffic from the top floor. I had the local Rockfish and my wife had the Salmon and they were both great dishes and very colorful and delicious. Recommend the fresh raw oysters also. Will be back on our next visit to the area this fall.
