Where to Find Chicago’s Best Paczki | Eater Chicago

"With close to 20 versions on offer, this Orland Park bakery is more than ready for Paczki Day. Choose from traditional — think strawberry, prune, or apricot — to more inventive — Oreo or cannoli paczki, anyone? The bakery has been selling its famous paczki since January 14 and extends its selection until the day before Easter." - Lisa Shames

I ordered my daughter’s wedding cake from the Orland Park Bakery. From the initial inquiry to the tasting to the design and ordering and through to the delivery to our venue, everything went smoothly. The bakery has a dedicated wedding coordinator, Tracie, who is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The three tier cake was delicious, as were the trays of mini pastries (carrot cake and raspberry cheesecake). The pricing is affordable, the service is reliable, and the product is delicious. I highly recommend Orland Park Bakery for your wedding cake needs!

More old fashioned donuts please On 3 occasions I have stopped for old fashioned donuts and they are still not available. Please help us out with this matter please. Whatever you need to do to make this happen: hire more staff, monitor the delivery truck, train a specialty baker for old fashioned donuts. If you need help I offer to make them for myself and those of us who love them. Don’t make us drive by for nothing cuz if you have no old fashioned donuts I’m walking out. Period. I will upgrade my review when you keep old fashioned donuts on hand. Oh; please put some apples in the apple fritters. Enough dough already. Stop skimping or your good customers will stop coming. We pay for good products. We can get junk food at McDonald’s.

We used Orland Park Bakery for our wedding cake on 9/21/24 and it was such a great decision! They were partnered with our venue, Ruffled Feathers Golf Club, in Lemont, IL and it made it so much easier for us! We were provided Tracie's contact information and set up a cake tasting a few months before. They had so many different options for cake flavors, icing flavors, fillings and design and we were told we could use different combinations for each tier if we wanted to! Everything we tried was delicious, but we went with Red Velvet and Carrot Cake both with cream cheese frosting for the wedding and it was all amazing! Tracie was great with quick email communication and answered all my questions and on the day of the wedding, the cake was gorgeous, delivered early in the day and there were no complications at all! Everyone said how much they loved our cake, and we cannot wait for our 1 year anniversary to try it again!

Google
I normally LOVE Orland Bakery!! If I hadn't actually got this pie myself I would never have believed it came from Orland Bakery. My husband's birthday was Sunday and he normally doesn't like cake so I figured I would order the caramel apple pie. It looked AMAZING!! Unfortunately I could not say the same for the taste! First off, there were hardly any apples in my apple pie! Second it was filled with this weird gelatinous cinnamon flavored filling! Lastly the filling tasted like it came out of a can from Wal-Mart! I was completely disappointed in this pie. I feel like I could have gotten a better pie from Jewel. I will just stick with the donuts, cupcakes and cake because the pie was a total miss for me!

This bakery was phenomenal! The service was amazing and the quality and variety of the baked goods was awesome! We tried cupcakes and Paczki which was to die for!

I had my first Atomic Bomb Cake 50 years ago and while I'm not a lover of sweets...this cake was divine! The layers of creamy fillings and fresh fruit made it a perfectly luxurious yet surprisingly light dessert experience. My daughter (turned 30 this April) and the Atomic Bomb Cake was her only food request. As I drove in from MO I called it in mid morning and it was ready when I arrived late afternoon. It was beautifully decorated wishing her a Happy Birthday. The cake was enjoyed two days later... and it was so fresh and just as delicious as I remembered from my first experience back in the 1970's. The staff was friendly while taking the order and while I ran late due to road construction they politely assured me the cake would be waiting and no rush... they're open until 6:00. I highly recommend Orland Park Bakery for any occasion when something special is wanted.

Google
First time customer, now lifetime repeat from now on, lol. I cannot say enough how overjoyed My Family and I were to do business with a wonderful bakery as this; The store looks so beautiful, ornamented with all the amazing things they bake daily, not just sweets -of which I took a bunch of photos of, it was busy today so I couldn't get all my pictures but all the more reason to come back, eh? Their Pączki Looked, smelled and taste SO GREAT! It's been difficult since Keens in Itasca retired and closed down to find another bakery and WOW! Service was like a well oiled machine, staff was so kind, helpful and thorough. Thanks y'all! I cannot wait to come back again soon and bring my family back here time after time! ❤️

Google
Came in for the paczkis and left with so much more. We arrived to a line. However, it moves quickly because they had plenty of people working. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. We were very pleased with our choices. The drive was worth it. We'll be back !

Yelp
Best bakery around. Love the apple fritters, lemon meringue pie slice. Atomic cake bread. I love everything they make. Pat Bonna

Yelp
I visit this bakery every year I visit and it does not disappoint. The cake was moist and the service was fast. The prices are good and they have gotten rid of the 'take a number' line. The line moves fast!

Yelp
So, don't be fooled. This is a gas station convenience store. NOT a bakery. And it's in Orland HILLS so even the name is misleading.

Yelp
I have been following their Facebook page for sometime. Finally a chance to visit them in person. They were busier than I expected for a Sunday at 1PM. Staff were helpful and friendly. The selection was extensive and everything looked delicious. However, I was there for the Paczki, and I wasn't disappointed. Fantastic selection. Too many choices to try them all at once, I will definitely have to go back. The store was clean and everything was well displayed.

Yelp
The best. Atomic cake. Danish. Cookies. Almond everything. Coffee cake. The pies aren't my favorite. But this bakery is my gold standard for everything else. Always busy for a reason.

Yelp
I am a huge fan of these old school, mom-and-pop bakeries. So when this one randomly fell in my radar, I had to check it off. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30 pm and there were still plenty of choices. The only item that was sold out was the flavor of the day which I believe was coconut cream. It was not a big deal to us since we generally do not like coconut fillings. We were not a fan of the chocolate yeast however we tried and enjoyed the following: 1) Strawberry custard paczki 2) Custard paczki 3) Raspberry paczki 4) Raspberry bismark donut 5) Chocolate custard donut 6) Chocolate eclair One of the ladies behind the counter was incredibly nice and generous. She asked us if it was okay to treat our little girls to complimentary sugar cookies with sprinkles. We said yes and our girls devoured them without hesitation and sharing.

Yelp
Ok I've become the person that orders/picks up the paczki. I just happened to be out this way and thought I'd grab an early batch. Normally I think they are good, not as great as we remember. This batch of paczki were really good... Fresh and full. (Normally I'm getting them day before or of Fat Tuesday and while fresh they definitely seemed less full.)

Yelp
What are you waiting for? Go, go now, this is literally the best bakery I've ever ordered from. Everything is phenomenal, they bet out every other one I've been to. Delicious

Yelp
I have gone here many times. I hate this place but have few options. I have to first mention my worst experience here which I am still agitated about. I had been talking up this bakery to family. They asked me to bring a French Silk pie to our next holiday gathering. I did and it was the worst pie I have ever had in my life. And the entire family hated it as well and I was the bad guy. The pie filling was solid and so hard I could barley cut it. Then the guests couldn't eat it because a fork wouldn't go thought it. And the taste was terrible. It tasted like a bad chocolate moose. I never give up on a place though. I have been there since and had a great apple pie and also sandwiches. Their prices are very high so be prepared.

Debra M.

Yelp
Bunch of rude teenagers throwing pastry in bags We could not even get the sticky apricot non glazed kolackys out of the bag. See below. Days it all. Will never go back!

Melody O.

Yelp
Not impressive anymore. Rather scarce filling, I won't be back. Luckily I have time before Fat Tuesday. I'm sure I find better.

Tara M.

Yelp
A classic, that you can never go wrong with. Never waiting in line too long, and the bakery items are always fresh.

Yelp
This is a very well run bakery. They have things down to a science here. It was super busy inside but I was in and out in no time. I ordered cupcakes and cookies for a friends birthday and got some other pastries for myself. All very good and reasonably priced.

Ivan C.

Yelp
Went with my family to get paczki's and the store was packed, but the line was moving quickly. Placed my order and then had to wait 45 minutes. While waiting they are calling orders in no apparent order, I was in the 200's and they called order 80, order 213, order 155, etc. When grabbing my order two of the ones I chose were not available and I had to choose something different. Disorganized and unprepared.

Luba C.

Yelp
Went in on a Saturday afternoon to buy paczki. The bakery was packed, but they worked quickly to fill orders. I was very disappointed with the paczki. The paczki are not authentic Polish donuts. They are more like stuffed Krispy Kreme donuts. Actually, they were very overstuffed and all the filling oozed out when trying to take a bite. I do not recommend buying them if you want authentic paczki.

Yelp
It's my sister's bday today and she didn't say she wanted an atomic cake until late last night. Our typical bakery is closed on Sunday so I really appreciate that the Orland Park Bakery was open today. I called before going and was pleasantly surprised that they had atomic cakes available - both 7inch and 8inch. They indicated that I didn't need to preorder...just come in and they would charge an additional $2.75 to personalize the cake. When I arrived, the bakery was actually pretty packed with customers. There are tons of options - bread, cookies, cakes, donuts, coffee cakes, you name it, they have it all. Customer service was good and as they indicated on the phone, the atomic cakes were available. I went with the 7inch, which was expensive at almost $40 with the personalization. My normal bakery charges this much for a the larger sized cake. The service and quality of food are good...it's just more on the expensive side.

Yelp
my 1st time here! everything i took home was delicious!! the ladies & young girls who work there were so knowledgeable & very sweet! one of the girls helped me out to my car! i will definitely be back!

Yelp
My mom and I have been going here for years. They have such a huge selection of sweets! We always like to pre-order their coffee cakes. We ordered a chocolate chip and pecan coffee cake. Their prices are kinda high here. The food quality is good though. My coffee cake was a little on the dry side compared to other times, but still good. Don't skip out on this bakery. They have so many different kinds of cupcakes, cookies, etc. You really can't go wrong!

Tony P.

Yelp
Always surprised when we try something new here and it turns out to be as good as our last favorite thing at opb. A little pricy but worth it.

Yelp
You have not had lovin from the Oven, if you have not been to Orland Park Bakery!!!!! They're the Real Life Keebler Elves working under the cover of darkness to bring you all things sinfully delicious!!!!! Nowhere else would I set my alarm for 4:45am to be there at 6am when the doors open, like it's a Bey concert!!!!! Those Bacon buns are for my Hubby and 8 yr old nephew, the little pillow clouds of Joy are packed with bacon and happy dust!!!! Yelp
I ordered a coconut cream cake a week ago. It was for company. It was delicious and the service was excellent.

Yelp
Friendly people, fantastic pastries worth the wait in line I gotten quite a few birthday cakes there. if you're looking for a good bakery, you don't need to look any further than Orland Park bakery
google avatar

Yelp
My fiancé surprised me with a Minions cake for my birthday. Wow was it beautiful! The detail on the face and clothing was phenomenal. Whoever made this cake is very talented! It was a 2D cake and super realistic! The icing tasted homemade, it was a delicious buttercream. I really enjoyed it. It was not sweet at all. As for the actual flavor of cake, mine was funfetti. I thought it was pretty good. Cake was pricey though from what he told me. I loved it though!
google avatar

Yelp
Coworker stops here for paczki. Surprised they were open on a Sunday, so I thought I'd pop-in. Steady stream of customers with almost everyone picking up preordered pies/cakes. Standard bakery fare that did not separate itself.
google avatar

Sheena P.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times to order pies for Christmas and paczkis. Pies were a hit with the family and they have a wide variety of paczkis that we ordered. We also bought their Italian sub sandwich once. It was good but lacking the lettuce. There are still a lot of items I want to try one day! It is a little chaotic in the store, especially trying to get your orders in. I would recommend placing an order online and picking it up. Overall great bakery and highly recommend if you're in the area!

John K.

Yelp
Since Covid they have adopted a new method of ordering when is store. You can't even get close to the counter to see what it is you want! Terrible!!! Lines of people when they open. Items at the door as you walk up to counter are on racks. With people standing behind you can't even stop to pick up item. When I get to the front they tell me that item is on the racks! UGGH!!! Only thing going for them is their employees which are nice. I sure hope another bakery opens up south as we need options!

Yelp
I said yes to the cake! If you are looking for yummy desserts look no further! I live out of state but had to stop to check this place out. I was looking for a local bakery to make my wedding cake I had several stops to make but after tasting their cakes I was hooked and I knew I wanted them for my big day!

Gregory H.

Yelp
Everything produced is delicious. The have terrible system for checking people out. I brought a delicious birthday cake which was delicious. But I stood inline til my legs were complaining.

Kathleen R.

Yelp
The service this morning by Stacey was shocking. Extremely rude and crabby when I picked up my order. Donuts and sweet rolls are delicious but I will not return because customer service is a big issue for me.

Emily K.

Yelp
My wife and I got our wedding desserts here. We chose the sheet cake and Italian butter cookies. Everything was phenomenal. The service was amazing. My sister noted this was the best cake she has ever had. Thank you so much for making our special day that much better!
google avatar

Heidi S.

Yelp
I would give a zero if I could !! Bakery used to be good maybe a decade ago , but ever since I would not recommend this place to anyone. I got a Black Forest cherry cake the other week for a family members birthday party ! (Only was a small party of 7-8) the eight inch cake we received was clearly very old. The dough must've been sitting in the freezers for a prolonged amount of time or something but that isn't even the worst of it. The layers were clearly so off centered and it was almost like the cake layers were sliding off of eachother. The whipped cream was the only decent thing but it's not hard to mess that up ! Haha . Decorations were thrown on their effortlessly and a child could've done better. Keep in mind I payed extra for a baseball themed cake .

Natalie R.

Yelp
For the 2nd time now I did not get the right paczki's. Not sure if it is the person entering the order or the ones filling the boxes, but it is frustrating. I ordered 3 atomic today and 1 fudge and I got 3 custard instead, not one single atomic. Last time I was missing 2 pistachio, so it always seems to be the special one of the day for some reason. They should show you the box before they tape it shut. From now on I will open it before I leave the store, but today was disappointing. For a 30 min drive, it's not worth it for this kind of service.

Pineapple t.

Yelp
Why are the employees here so rude? Good food but the employee Stacey is an a classic case of a C U Next Tuesday. Sorry about the rudeness, but I have to be honest. Horrible service and mediocre food. Not bad but not good.
google avatar

Samantha B.

Yelp
Since living in the area, I've gone here quite frequently. Although, a majority of the time the line is chaotic and unorganized I have never had an issue with customer service until the other day. After placing my order I stepped up towards the cashier and approached the worker, who was named Stacy, once she started screaming "next, next, next". I thought that was odd and unnecessary since there were only 5 customers in the store and it wasn't as loud as normal but I approached her to pay for my order they were packing up. When I was placing my order I did not see the pretzels they had behind the counter and said to Stacy "I'm sorry I didn't see the pretzels can I add a cinnamon one to my order" she proceeded to sigh in annoyance and shout across the restaurant for who was packing up order 79, to add a pretzel. She made her way back to the register and said to herself *not so quietly as she had thought* "I guess no one sees f***ing anything today". I was completely taken back and said excuse me to her and she said she wasn't talking to me. I stepped to the side after I paid and watched her l be rude with another customer who was just as taken back as me trying to pick up a cake and didn't know he was supposed to give his name to the lady taking orders. Needless to say, if I ever walk in and I see she is working I will walk right out and not waste my time being berated by a worker for no reason. I would rather support another local bakery with friendly staff. It's a shame to have such a bad experience at a place I've supported for a while.

Debbie F.

Yelp
So let me start, I've been coming here for years. Today, however, I'm not sure I can come back. I ordered my items and you have to go pay at the end. After waiting for everyone to clear out of the waiting area, I walked up to the counter and asked about my order. The lady apologized for not getting my order, and she said she'd pull it herself. She was the older lady that's been there sometime. She pulled my order and apologized, but waiting an 45 minutes for my order at 330 is unacceptable. On a positive note, the bakery was excellent.

William Patrick L.

Yelp
Irish Soda Bread bought on Feb 2 was tasteless even the fruit was overpowered. Try Pat and Jack's far superior
google avatar

Maricel J.

Yelp
As soon as you enter the establishment, you will see a sign on which way to walk. Patrons will choose bread, cookies, and coffee cakes on the tables and shelves before you make your way to the cashier. I think it is extremely organized in light of social distancing. Aside from this, the pecan coffee cake and oatmeal raisin cookies we bought were just okay.

Naythea J.

Yelp
Pecan pie was excellent. I Ordered ahead of time and pick up process was well organized.
google avatar

Christopher K.

Yelp
Great donuts! Made an advanced order and when we went to pick it up they said it wasn't in stock. Don't bother getting a pie. It was dry and tasteless.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Was disappointed the pretzel bites I planned to bring to a party were already gone, but it's bc they are such a great tray to pick up for a gathering (or for snacking any time). They did have the cinnamon sugar & am I am planning to try those at some point. They also have a hard to find cinnamon bun frosted with chocolate like I get (& love) from a bakery back home in NJ. Variety of everything is awesome & I plan to try a sandwich real soon.
google avatar

Cindy E.

Yelp
I ordered my sons birthday donut cake. When we opened it to serve everyone a piece the donut was raw very under cooked. Can't believe the baker was willing to sell this to me. Obviously this baker isn't good at making donut cakes. Next day went back with my raw donut cake and returned for a refund. The manager couldn't believe how bad this situation was. Not sure if I would ever order another one. So my poor son didn't get to enjoy a cake for his birthday!

Jim B.

Yelp
Unorganized and slow System for order is awful Food was ok at best Much better places won't be returning

Gail H.

Yelp
Do not order pies for Thanksgiving. Last year's apple crumb pie was terrible. I'm wondering if they even make it in the bakery The crumb was like eating corn meal
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
This bakery is one of the best I've been to in any state. They have been around a long time and always have ample staff. The bacon buns, cheesecake slices, cookies and donuts are all so good. Prices are fair and they have a large selection.
google avatar

Al A.

Yelp
OPB is now offering sandwiches and I tried a small Prime Rib sandwich on garlic asiago bread. It was quite good and a cheaper alternative to the P Bakery chain. The small is huge enough to satisfy your hunger and the ingredients were fresh. The only downside was the included potato chips which were greasy and unforgettable in taste.
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
Orland Park Bakery was a lifesaver after our original bakery didn't hold a spot on our wedding date due to a miscommunication. We were able to order a small 2 tier cake, get a tasting kit and have everything turn out beautifully with us having ordered less than 2 months to our wedding. Thank you for the beautiful (and delicious) cake!
google avatar

Ale M.

Yelp
The chocolate strawberry was good but the cupcakes did not taste like anything that I would buy again. Kinda sad bkus I thought I would enjoy them .
google avatar

Pam S.

Yelp
Horrible customer service with no organization at all. Teenage employees running around the business like it's a frat party in there! One employee almost knocked into my husband.

Crystal S.

Yelp
I come here for a raspberry cheese coffee cake every now and then and sometimes it's a hit or miss more raspberry less raspberry. But my issue was I decided to try there cakes normally I go to Webers but I thought I would give them a chance. I should have known in the beginning everything would go wrong. I asked to get an 8 inch round all fudge 1/2 strawberry 1/2 banana and was told they can't do that. Now Webers can. So at first I said all fudge then switched it to 1/2 strawberry 1/2 banana. The decoration was nice the cake looked good when I picked it up. But when we cut into it wasn't 1/2 strawberry 1/2 banana it was all fudge very disappointing. I called the bakery and told them and gave my name and number and was told I would get a call back from the manager. Of course no call. The whipped cream was plan and so was the cake. Let's just say next time I won't switch. WEBERS BAKERY it is.
