Orleans & York Deli Review - View Park-Windsor Hills - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Orleans & York is a local mini-chain serving classic sandwiches from both NYC and New Orleans. The menu at this order-at-the-counter spot covers a lot of ground, so our suggestion is to concentrate mostly on the New Orleans side of things. And in particular, the po’boys. The shrimp po’boy is what most people are eating, but for us, the beef hot links with bell peppers and onions is the best sandwich here. And if they’re selling a dessert crumble at the counter, get it." - Brant Cox

I came by early in the morning with a request and the employee - Elza, Eliza? - was so nice about it that I returned in the afternoon to try the fish tacos. Realllyyy good fish taco, the salsa was amazing, the cabbage was crisp. Would definitely come back to try the shrimp tacos. Give Elsa a raise, she is nice and gives great service. In regards to the star rating I gave, I gave four stars because the prices for other items were really high. The tacos were well priced, but I was interested in trying the veggie burger in the future and saw that they were charging $18 and some change. I know it’s DTLA but those are some sit down and have a waiter come to you prices. I’ll still consider coming by for a taco, but I’ll skip on anything larger.

Oh my God, please give me 10 stars. I have never fallen in love with the intercity deli so fast before in my life the marble counters you can sit out and enjoy TV but you absolutely have to try everything they have.!!! I started with the sandwich has pastrami and has turkey and Romain lettuce and Russian dressing. I threw some good old-fashioned American mustard on top because it was delicious. Wash it down with some water and threw jalapeño chips on the side, delicious assortment of cookies and all the meats and everything they have on display so you know what you’re eating. The outdoor seating is amazing all the services you can think of the sandwiches so beautiful. I wish that it was 10 feet long. !

Taste amazing and worth it. Definitely recommended to try.

Google
I've been looking for a good Cajun place since I moved here. Orleans & York totally delivered. The catfish and shrimp Po'boy was delicious! The fish and shrimp were both crispy and hot. It was clearly fried to order. The potato salad was excellent! Fresh and bright tasting. But my favorite thing about the meal was probably the house hot sauce they made. It has a great flavor and real body. It's almost as though they add a rue to it. If you like hot sauce, I recommend you get two containers and apply liberally.

Google
the most disgusting chicken salad sandwich ive ever had. cubes of fishy smelling cubed chicken from a can and mayo….not mixed…brown lettuce….i literally gagged when i opened it…

Google
You MUST try their PO BOY. Awesome sandwiches.

Google
If tou like Cajun style food, This spot is for you. I ordered the shrimp and clam poboy, chicken and sausage bowl, cajun fries, and they were all delicious. Fyi, Parking is limited and expensive in lots. You can eat inside, an outdoor eating area, or take it to go.

Google
Hi All. Still the best Poy Boy and sandwich place in the country. I am from Canada and used come by for sandwiches when in LA. By sure luck booked a hotel nearby only to figure out I was staying next to Po Boys LA. A special shout out to Pena. Still the best.

Yelp
Orleans & York makes the best shrimp po'boy in LA. The shrimp are pretty big, well seasoned and not too much breading. Fluffy delicate bread, fresh produce, tangy pickles, amazing sandwich overall. I've been going to this place for years and have always had a good experience. Cajun fries are decent, love their tartar sauce on the po'boy and hot sauce for dry dipping.

Yelp
Best southern food in inland empire . Are You looking for Cajun flavor? Come on down and try a tasteful delicious Louisiana food .

Yelp
Fried shrimp & catfish here are delicious. So are the fries. Here for a weekday lunch with some office buddies. Today, the food took extra long to come out, and there was no cocktail sauce or tarter sauce either. Not good when the lunch hour is ticking down. For what you pay, they need to do better. The location, although conveniently located by the DASH D stop & Ronald Reagan State Building, is sketchy. Homeless people are all over this place stinking up Downtown LA. I hate to ding businesses for this, but they need to stand up to the tyrants in power and demand better conditions for their patrons.

Yelp
Ambiance: small deli place, the establishment is located in a quiet plaza Service: very friendly though slow, their post machine was broken, had to wait them to call and fix it before I could play the order Food: various items on their menu, different combinations for proteins Big Mo's Favorite - **** Fried Shrimp, beef hot links, lettuce, tomato and mayo, the fried shrimp was really crunchy, good combined flavors with sausage, recommend Price: generous portions and reasonable prices, about $20 per person
google avatar

Yelp
Best shrimp po'boy around. My go-to spot in the Historic Core neighborhood, especially on Fridays in Lent
google avatar

Olympica H.

Yelp
Service was great very nice people. I got the Big Mo and hubby got the Louisiana burger. Everything favorable, fresh and delicious. The bread is fresh baked and you can totally tell. The Sami sauce they put on my Big Mo sandwich was delicious I could pour it on a lot of stuff. Great place for Moreno Valley.

Yelp
By far and away the best po boy in all of Southern California also good homemade sides & cool soda selection
google avatar

Yelp
I have only two words to sum up my food. Bland Trash.... Fried fish and shrimp was fried too soft and was bland as fuck. Red beans and rice....bland. Bland bland bland bland..... Trash

Yelp
Today was a walking go get lunch day. The heat was not nice either. Not to far from work point. Service from the orders to the end was great point. The place inside would be hot if we eat there. Outside would be better but no time. Back to work we go. This was another coworkers suggestion. And you get your money worth. KJ was helpful and took care of us. We be back and I for sure spread the word. If in downtown and you want try a taste of Orleans stop by and try for yourself. The area is safe to eat in their courtyard better breeze.

Yelp
Been looking for a real Po boy sandwich, I'd have to say this is the best one I've had so far. The shrimp was really good inside the sandwich, tasted fresh and the texture of the batter was awesome. By far the best tasting one I've tried, just shy of 5 stars in my opinion only because I think there might be better out there. I just haven't tried enough to know.

Yelp
This location has rude employees and the last two visits I have encountered this. Even though the food is good I can spend my money elsewhere and get better service.

Jay ..

Yelp
this review as all about my experience as a customer the old lady at the register was rude not friendly all attitude when i asked questions about the menu either she hates her job or maybe because i was black but i know bad vibes and this old miserable lady made me not want to spend my money here ever again i see why it was empty when i came in

Yelp
Good food and sides and desserts. A definite go to when I don't feel like cooking. A bit pricey on a few items but overall it's a good spot to come get some good food.

Ace K.

Yelp
We had this deli catering our event. I got the shrimp po'boy and it was quite delicious! I will have to visit the restaurant to see how other features of this establishment is like, but the food earns a top rating for now!

Yelp
really unfortunate because I love this chain but at this specific location they absolutely never follow instructions on delivery orders. On two separate occasions I've put special instructions that I know they've seen that they just ignore. For example, I got a sandwich and purchased pickles to be put on the sandwich and a special instructions. I asked them to put it on the side they didn't they just put it on the sandwich which was not what I wanted and then another occasion I asked them to put the tomatoes on the side and they just put no tomatoes so I find it really annoying and ridiculous that they just choose to not follow instructions, so I will not be going back

Yelp
Delicious. Catfish and shrimp po boy was perfection. I would get again for sure. mmm
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the shrimp po-boy. But, the red beans & rice were my fav. They have a nice hot sauce (more flavor than heat).
google avatar

Yelp
THE RUDEST WOMAN WAS WORKING THE COUNTER WHEN I WALKED IN! If you are the only restaurant in the city, that's one thing, but OMG... I would recommend having people that don't mind working with the general public representing your store... I left after my interaction with this woman and was getting to go for five people.
google avatar

Yelp
My pictures don't do this place justice. Their sandwiches are soooo good. Their hot sauce that comes with the Po' Boys is the bomb! The service was awesome. The location downtown is really cool cause there's a lot of outdoor seating by them and behind them in a secret kind of outdoor seating area .
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
I had the catfish po boy. I should have taken a picture but it looked too good to wait. The serving size was generous. The catfish was fresh and not oily. The service was quick. Parking across the street from was convenient. If you are downtown LA I recommend this place.
google avatar

Veronica R.

Yelp
Been here many times. Got my sandwich and there wasn't a napkin in the bag, so I waited on the side. Lady said the napkin is the bag so I check and no napkin. All I wanted was a napkin. She gave me the napkin. Not sure if that is her demeanor or she was having a bad day.

Yelp
Garden salad. No love Put into this salad. $3.99. The dressing is about 2 oz and just lettuce chopped tomatoes and chop onions. I guess that's all that was available in the Garden.

Yelp
I've been coming to this location for years. When I would take my dog to the dog park on 2nd and Spring, I would usually stop by on the walk home and order some fried oysters to snack on. I haven't been eating it much since I've moved out of DTLA but my husband wanted to something different from what we usually have around our neighborhood and reminded of O&Y. My go to is their fried shrimp po boy and I always have to order fried oysters on the side. I really like their house made house sauce but it seemed like the flavor changed just a little bit. It was a little bit more sour than usual. They also sell zappo chips and have a whole section for drinks inside as well. Parking is a little difficult since it is on a busy street and you might get lucky and find a meter or you would have to go a parking lot and pay.
google avatar

Foodie 4.

Yelp
Terrible service, can't change anything for nonsense reasons, everything is a "NO", even refuses to give any quarters for customers to feed meters then how are we going to eat here?!?! "No, we don't give change!" Next time, let her charge your items one at a time if you need change for meters in order to buy food from this place! Who does business like that?
google avatar

Yelp
Showed up 25 minutes before closing, young lady working already putting away tables. Was denied service, ownership keep an eye on lazy employees closing early its costing you business from your loyal patrons P.S. I love all your food !

Yelp
Hungry for something different, I came across this place on Doordash and saw they had po boys which is a sandwich I love, but rarely find outside of the south. I chose chicken because shellfish makes my stomach upset and I gotta tell you: when I say this chicken was *moist,* I mean it. Crunchy, well seasoned, and graciously portioned, the chicken tender po boy hit the spot. Bonus points for having it on an authentic french baguette versus a run of the mill hoagie roll as well -- this is a non-negotiable for a po boy and anyone who tells you different is lying to themselves. I ordered a side of fries and they were standard; could have been more well done, but I'll chalk it up partially due to travel time in the to-go container. Another thing I really appreciated was they took the time to check the special request for a side of honey mustard. A lot of restaurants don't bother to and it made me happy to see them go an extra mile with my order. I will definitely be bookmarking this spot in my LA haunts whenever I'm in the mood for a sandwich.

Yelp
When I lived in Inglewood three years ago, we used to get sandwiches occasionally and we always enjoyed them and I gave them a 5 star review. Yesterday my husband was near by and picked up a Pastrami sandwich and a Chicken strip sandwich and so we split them so we could each have a taste. What a disappointment. The chicken was so rubbery I couldn't bite through it and the Pastrami was tough and stringy. It was nothing like years past except for the sauce, it tasted the same. I hate writing negative reviews but this experience was really disappointing.

Julien S.

Yelp
The best shrimp poboy I've ever had. One of my favorite meals is that shrimp poboy make sure u get that hot sauce too it's the best.
google avatar

Yelp
No idea why this place has good reviews. I got the chicken sandwich which had almost nothing in it and was super dry ($9). The thing that really got me though was service. They didn't bag half my order and wouldn't answer how much things cost..... On top of that their prices are insane. It's $15+ for a shrimp sandwich the size of 1/2 a subway sandwich.

Yelp
Came here on a whim on a Saturday afternoon. They are following COVID safety measures (masks, physical distancing, outdoor seating). We ordered two sandwiches to share (Gumbo Mumbo and the Hot Brooklyn). The Gumbo Mumbo was my favorite. The savory flavors were pretty spectacular, with an abundance of beef, chicken, sausage and shrimp. So delicious, in fact, that a sandwich was not enough. I think next time, I'll get the platter. The Hot Brooklyn was a solid deli sandwich, but in the past, the pastrami and turkey proportions were equal but this time, the pastrami was almost barely there. It was more of a turkey sandwich than anything else. All in all, the fillings were tasty and the bread was fresh and doughy. A good meal for lunch.

Yelp
Very pleasant experience, though it was a little unexpected. Upon my entrance, the cashier seemed relatively unhappy to see me, and given that I arrived 15 minutes before closing, I couldn't really blame her. Food was out promptly. I ordered a shrimp po boy for 15 dollars. It was a little heavy on the lettuce given how much shrimp I received, and if I was feeling just a little more cynical, I would have thought they were skimping out on the shrimp portions to cut costs. Case in point, if the ratio matters to you, consider asking for extra shrimp. It wasn't too much of an issue for me though; I found it to be pretty refreshing and the tomato's acidity was a great complement to the sandwich that made it feel quite balanced. The bread was pretty plushy, which was a great indicator of its freshness since I'm assuming it must have been baked the morning of in order to be plush at all by 7:45 p.m. when I ordered. Holistically, I felt it was a little pricey for what I received, but I was satisfied with the food itself. I sat down at tables outside to eat part of my sandwich, and ate half of my sandwich when I realized that the restaurant was closing within minutes. I offered to leave but a cook from the back allowed me to finish up my sandwich even though the staff was working on cleaning tables and bringing them back inside the shop. Definitely a customer service redemption that made me very happy.

Yelp
Yum!!! Ordered delivery and sandwiches came fresh and warm! We had the Philly cheesesteak which had a bit of spice to it! It was delicious! We also had the Italiano toasted with added lettuce which was super yummy too! Def would order again and maybe instead dine in and try other items on menu!
google avatar

Cassandra C.

Yelp
Was across the street walking on a cold Thursday afternoon when I smelt something REALLY good. So I stopped here by chance. Walked in and decided to order a Philly Cheesesteak. I got my food within a couple minutes, despite there being a lot of people in the deli. They are fast!! I ate when I got home and the food was still nice and warm. It was wrapped twice and a bit messy/leaky, but what do you expect - it's a huge hoagie! It was AMAZING. Packed with lots and lots of meat, cheese, mushrooms and bell peppers. Great flavor. My sandwich wasn't cut evenly in half, but what do I care - I ain't sharing. Boy, can't wait to go back. So glad I stumbled onto here!
google avatar

Larry J.

Yelp
Food freshly prepared, wait was almost non existent. Service was impeccable. I tried the fish and it was bomb! No many seats available in this location.

Alice T.

Yelp
Randomly found this place. I had the turkey with no bacon or cheese. It was the best turkey sandwich!!!! The bread they use for sandwiches is perfect- soft inside with a nice crunch outside and not too thick. I will be back to try other sandwiches.
google avatar

Gregory G.

Yelp
I was with a group of friends and we stopped by this place for a quick bite. And I didn't know this place existed. I'm always a fan of delis and this place also has Po' Boys! I ordered the Long Island Hero and sandwich was really filling. They're located near Spring & 3rd, in Downtown LA. It's a great place for a quick bite. Their service is quick if you're on a short lunch, and their staff is friendly and knowledgeable if you can't decide between two different sandwiches. I will come back here as it's within walking distance from my work.
google avatar

Food D.

Yelp
Sadly the worst Poorboy I've ever had. It was as basic as I've ever seen. Bread from the store meets fried chicken with no flavor, too much condiments, and cheap iceberg shredded. The tomato was fresh. All for WAY too much money. Should be called a rich boy sandwich, in which, I still wouldn't buy it.
google avatar

Darren B.

Yelp
I wish this place were a full-on restaurant with an immersive ambience to add to the flavor of the food and this provide an 'experience'. From the first bite of my sandwich, the Big Mo, I could tell the flavor was robust and very savory; the mix of the shrimp with the sausage and the crunch of the bread... just YUM. My friend let me try his Gumbo Mumbo platter and it was just as flavorful (also a sandwich option). One review said the sandwich was big enough for 2 meals, but only if you're a bird; however, don't let your watering mouth reading the menu make the choices for you as to where you'd order too much. One sandwich and fries was perfect for lunch. Cajun food is definitely my fave and I'll definitely be coming back for more.

Yelp
In my quest to find a fulfilling, unique and Non-Mendocino Farms treat for clients for lunch, I tried Orleans and York. The Yelp reviews validated this provider. I really appreciated the efficiency to this very busy take out service. And during Covid, they moved the line very quickly. Service was super friendly. Food was very good. Clients were impressed. So for a good introduction to Cajun/Creole in downtown, Orleans and York provides a satisfying lunch for hungry appetites. This Creole/Cajun fan enjoyed his choices too. Next time I'll ask for more hot sauce, I forget I'm not in Nawlins. LOL. The dipping condiment for the Little Honeys (wangs) was nicely rich and buttery. This is where the hot sowz was a bit lacking but easily correctible. Tip: If you're ordering a Po-boy ToGo and you want it dressed, ask for the dressed part on the side. A dressed sandwich is meant to be eaten on the spot--and they have 4 outdoor tables if you want to oblige. They hand out ranch dressing in addition to standard condiments for free. Sorry for the lack of photos. I will add photos next time when I'm not hosting a lunch.

Yelp
Some of the very best food in Los Angeles. I had the catfish & shrimp po boy. Out of this world!!! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch while visiting the Ronald Regan building and enjoyed every bite. My girlfriend and I shared a bowl that included shrimp, fried salmon, sausage, grilled onions and bell peppers with rice. The hot sauce was delicious and the food was fresh.

Chris H.

Yelp
I don't come to Los Angeles that much, but when I do, I usually try to make it there when I'm in the area. I love the food absolutely.

Brandie G.

Yelp
ordered the 7-piece catfish with one shrimp (you can't add on multiple) on doordash. I only received 6 pieces of fish that was NOT catfish - could have been filet of sole? I knew 100% it wasn't catfish when i found a bone in the filet that was def not a catfish bone. Not sure what fish but it wasn't what i ordered and they also gave me less than i paid for. it's only 2 stars cause the single shrimp which was actually good.

Julianne M.

Yelp
If you want to take a chance on being ripped off, go here. The food is really pretty good, but their attitudes suck and they have no follow up. The deal -- they shorted me on an item on 4/12/23, then told me to "come get" my refund. Refused to credit my card. Got really nasty. Talked to one person with sense, who claimed a manager would get back to me. No manager call SEVEN weeks later. No apology. No refund. They did not get back my complaint from American Express. They seem to think that stealing from their customers is okay Avoid this place or at the very least, if you get take out, check your bag before you leave, They don't mind shorting people and they have absolutely no remorse about it. THESE ARE HORRIBLE PEOPLE.
google avatar

Melissa A.

Yelp
I'm a huge person on customer service. I dislike spending my money somewhere that the employees are rude. 3 stars because the food was great! But sheesh, the service. We walked in & I bawled out "hellooooo" because I was excited to try this place for the first time. The cashier did not even say "hello" back. Hmm. My boyfriend really wanted to eat here. So we proceed to pick up the first menu we saw on the counter, as we were looking through, the cashier walked away seeming annoyed that we weren't ready. Okay, finally ready, she comes back. We order. Price seems a little high. She tells us the prices on the menu aren't correct, period. She doesn't let us know WHERE we can find the correct prices. So I ask "where?" She says the other menu. Okay cool. We pay, no thank you, nothing. I realize another customer comes in, she's a TINY bit more pleasant with him. Hmm. I don't want to take it personal but seems like it. She gives us our food, & again there is no "thank you" or "have a good day", the basics when having a business. It's really sad because I really enjoyed the food but I won't go back here because of the young girl at the counter. It really doesn't take much just to be pleasant & mannerly. We didn't even get a HELLO when we walked in, even after I greeted her. I don't like the feeling of me bothering an employee when we spent over $50 there on dinner.

Yelp
I ordered online and when I picked up it was ready to go. I ordered through Yelp. I ordered the new York burger and it was yummy...it came with fries and sandwich size was a good amount. I have ate here a couple of times before and this is probably one of my favorite sandwiches. I'm not crazy about some of the others I've ordered. I work next door so parking isn't an issue for me and the order ahead and pick up works perfectly for me.

Yelp
This little place defintely deli-vers in creating great tasting sandwiches! The City of New Orleans is famous for their delis (and seafood) and people say that this place creates sandwiches that are pretty identical to the ones from New Orlean. The most popular items on their menu are their po-boys which are pretty much their way of saying "baguette sandwich". They have several seafood type sandwiches (shrimp/catfish/salmon/etc). I ordered the shrimp po boy my first time here and it was an interesting experience because I've never had something from the ocean in my sandwich before. The shrimp is jumbo and fried. The sauces/lettuce/tomatoes went well with the fried texture of the shrimp. When first biting into the sandwich, you are greeted by the crunchy outer layer of the shrimp, after that you get to the soft and tender taste from the inside meat of the shrimp. The other item I've ordered here is the Long Beach Hero. This sandwich baguette has turkey/salami and beef in it. All three of those meats are cooked perfectly, the meat is flavorful and soft which makes it easy to eat. The lettuce, tomatoes and mustard help glue all the meats together which makes eating it less messy and more delicious. I feel like they can add a bit less mayo in it though. Overall a pretty awesome place.

Yelp
I think this might be the first time I've had gumbo and I thought it was pretty good. Ordered the Gumbo Mumbo Platter over rice, which is packed with sausages, chicken, shrimp, and beef. This thing packs a ton of flavor and I found myself enthusiastically scarfing down the whole thing. It doesn't look like much but it's actually super filling and I found myself unable to eat another bite for the rest of the day. Glad I got to check this place out!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was delicious I had the New York burger it was off the hook not a Knouff pastrami for me. Question would I ever go back probably not customer service was horrible they didn't answer their phone after several calls I made to them when I showed up around 715 they were already trying to close the girl was super rude so yeah I would never go back again food was great but I would never go back thanks.I will give the place five stars for the food and one star for customer service you have to have both to be a good place to go to
