The Best Crawfish Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"With a name like Orleans Kitchen, you know that the Cajun cooking here will be serious. Two locations of this restaurant serve up traditionally seasoned crawfish with sides of corn and potatoes. Louisiana classics like red beans and rice, gumbo, and oysters are worthy additions to any order, and there’s even a full bar." - Brittany Britto Garley

Google
Second time coming, but first time leaving a review... food was great, but portion could've been a bit bigger. The service was pretty quick, but kind of straightforward and not as hospitable as I would like. The atmosphere was pretty great, and it wasn't too busy for a Sunday afternoon. I enjoyed the restaurant, and have been surprised by the quality both times as a Louisiana native. Food is pretty well-seasoned, and I've had no complaints so far. 4 out of 5! Great job!

Google
Sorry, not impressed. Cheap prices, cheap presentation. The blackened shrimp had no seasoning whatsoever. I asked for butter and got movie theater butter. basically I could have made a better dish at home. Presentation is like the school cafeteria served it. Maybe the drinks are the draw because the food simply ain't it. Service was decent but this is definitely one to skip if you're looking for excitement.

Google
First time here. Not a very sea food person but have to admit, I can see why is a known place. The service was outstanding. Will go back after trying some other places in the area so I can have something to compare it to.

Great Experience at the counter and the Bar with the bar attendant! I met the Chef (Micheal) also. Great encounter and the Appetizers and Entrees were superb! Thanks for a great experience!

We started going to Orleans Seafood Kitchen back in 2010 when we lived here. We moved out of state in 2017 but make Orleans a must when we are traveling back through. FOOD: It doesn’t matter what you have, it’ll be some of the best Cajun food ever. We’ve tried it all! Catfish Orleans is my favorite along with the pistolettes or fried alligator. The etoufee is always excellent. Their muffulettas were great but I think they did away with them. Their gumbo is Cajun good and the best! Red beans and rice are a great way to go as well! SERVICE: The service has always been good! It used to be that one of the owners was always there but I didn’t see either tonight. But we were treated very friendly and always have been! ATMOSPHERE: Going to Orleans Seafood Kitchen always gives a good Louisiana, Cajun feel. It’s easy going as the place is wide open and even has outside dining. One walks up to the counter to order and is not attended to at their seat. Tonight, we were there til closing (10:00 PM) visiting an old friend and never felt rushed by the staff. We have taken so many people to Orleans over the years. Our friends couldn’t understand why they passed 2-3 Pappadeaux’s to go here until they ate here. Some even went back and ordered a second plate in the same visit! It’s a great place for Cajun style food! Today, we flew in a day early to make sure we could go visit the best Cajun restaurant!

Google
Great food. Place has a diner feel without the cold floors. Staff is ok. Not rude but not overly friendly. Food is great but a little over priced. Great for a casual occasion. I'll definitely come back.

Google
When I come to Orleans, I mainly come for the Sauteed Crab Fingers! They are delicious, tasty and meaty! Their other seafood is good as well! Service is always wonderful, the atmosphere is pretty laid back and quiet when I come but I hear it can get quite live during happy hour and later in the day.

Google
Everything was pretty good here but the seafood gumbo was way too spicy and the red beans and rice wasn't New Orleans quality. The seafood platter, crawfish pistolette, hush puppies and praline cheesecake was sooooo good though.

Lisa B.

Yelp
Took my family to lunch for our first visit to Orleans today and the food and service was SPECTACULAR. We shared the big easy platter and a couple pistollets and they were sooo good. We sat in the bar area since it's full service and the bartender Parker was very helpful with choosing the right dish and had a smile the whole time. He was a very nice young man and made some really good drinks. We will definitely be coming back for some more authentic cajun food and for some more tasty drinks from Mr. Parker!

Yelp
No complaints about the food or the service. Glad we tried it out. We stumbled upon it after our area lost power during the storm. It was a welcome relief and the prices are reasonable.

Yelp
The food: Didn't get a picture of it, but the boiled crawfish was delicious. True New Orleans style. Every well seaso ed and tasteful without have the wet sauce on top like most Texas restaurants. The crawfish pistolette was delicious. The French bread was crispy even though it had crawfish etouffee poured in it. The seafood fondue and the bacon wrapped shrimp also tasted great. The dirty rice that came with the bacon wrapped shrimp was awful. It tasted like it was missing several ingredients of traditional New Orleans style dirty rice. The fried shrimp and French fries look like they came frozen. And my husband said the fries oysters were ok. He's had better. The service: Our order was taken quickly. And our appetizers was arrived within 10 mins. And the main dishes arrived shortly afterwards. This isn't like a technical restaurant where the orders are brought to you table. Instead, you receive a buzzer that alerts you when.yoyr food is ready. Then you go back to the counter to pick up your items. I'm not sure if I would return, but I believe it's worth a try.

Yelp
We used to come here years ago and loved it! Happened to pass by and wanted to stop by for lunch. I ordered the hush puppies, chicken tenders with fries, red beans and rice, and gumbo. Food quality has gone, we all agreed Boudreax's Cajun is wayyy better in terms of taste and flavor. The gumbo was lacking and the red beans and rice were a bust (I've had better red beans and rice at Popeyes chicken truthfully). The chicken tenders were bland no flavor. My kids didn't even finish eating them and they shared a plate! On the bright side the service was great and the offer kids eat free with a purchase of an adult entree. Unfortunately I'd rather drive out to the west loop for Boudreax's!

Yelp
As of today this is my second time here in a week so that says a lot . The food is amazing today I ordered the the blackened chicken royale I substituted the dirty rice for red beans and rice and cornbread instead of the garlic bread. The red beans are so good OMG and that cornbread reminds me of back home when my mom used to cook for me as a kid. The service was good the guy who took our order was nice and very patient with us. The ambiance was awesome they were playing zydeco music which really took me back home to Louisiana I love the vibe here. If you're looking for some creole, Cajun type food this is the place to try. 10/10 easy.

Yelp
I would have to say this place is good. The atmosphere was very busy, but the staff was very friendly. The wait time was not long at all. The food was cooked to perfection very well seasoned very flavorful.
google avatar

Troy J.

Yelp
This is just for Crawfish. I was disappointed because the crawfish is not seasoned. They give you your choice of a dipping sauce. The sausage was great. The corn and potatoes also did not have any seasoning. The service was good and the ambiance is pretty nice. I enjoy some of there other dishes but the crawfish is disappointing. Sorry folks.

Yelp
My mom was recommended this spot for Cajun food by her coworker. Not going to lie, I had mediocre expectations but was pleasantly surprised by this family friendly spot. It's a very casual restaurant where you walk up to the counter to order and find an empty table to sit at. The menu is quite large with lots of fried seafood basket, blackened fish platters, pastas, poboy, and other cooked entree options for very reasonable prices. I ordered a fried catfish basket with fries. The fish was flaky with a nice crust, the fries were standard. My family ordered blackened tilapia and grilled chicken platters and enjoyed them. The grilled chicken was moist, not dry. To top it off, we ended the meal with the bread pudding - while it wasn't life changing, it definitely hit the spot ! Overall we had a pleasant meal for good value, which is why I gave five stars. They also do daily specials, like Monday Senior discounts (20% off), and family Sundays (20%) if you bring a church bulletin (a little weird I know). I hope they eventually open a location closer to the loop!
google avatar

Jordan S.

Yelp
If you prefer full service sit at the bar for a great atmosphere! You're closer to the TV's in that section, and all the bartenders are super friendly. My top picks are gumbo, sautéed crab fingers, and the salmon orleans! Will add pictures during my next visit.

Ieisha N.

Yelp
The food was not what I expected! It was subpar and not what I would consider Cajun food. I ordered the dinner size alligator bits which lack seasoning and had fried crawfish tails mixed in. My husband ordered the St Charles pasta. It also lacked seasoning along with what looked and tasted like the pre cook cocktail shrimp. Disappointed was the least to say. The best thing was the drink and it was just ok.

Yelp
The owner is awesome and the food is great!!!!! I will come back in-as a matter fact, I'll be there this weekend.

Yelp
Orleans is a pretty basic pay first/dine in restaurant with cajun cuisine inspired dishes. We walked and immediately got in line to order. There is no wait staff per say, but there people who will clean your table when you're done with your meal. Standing in line to order took about 15 minutes and the place wasn't crowded at all. The menu is pretty large. They have items from Gumbo to Catfish, to Shrimp cooked almost anyway you like, crawfish, etc. I got the half shrimp poboy with a cup of gumbo and french fries. The poboy wasn't bad but I definitely had better. The shrimp they use remind of the stuff in the frozen section that you just heat up. Theh chicken in the gumbo tasted old and ruined the entire dish. My wife got a platter that included fried catfish, fried crawfish, fried shrimp, stuffed shrimp and fries. My wife enjoyed hers very much but when I tasted her catfish, it should have been fried longer. It was breaking up easily. The fountain drinks taste like the machine. So much so, I only took one gulp and left the rest alone. The only show stopper to us was the crushed walnut cheesecake. It was absolutely delicious. Perfect flavor. The place was mostly clean for this kind of establishment but the bathrooms could have used an extra clean. Based on the decor, the decent customer service, I give 3 stars.

Yelp
In the mood for seafood and this neighborhood restaurant hit the spot. I went near closing time, and the staff not only gave recommendations, they were friendly and even were ok with me being there a little after they closed. The fried alligator was fresh and fried to perfection. The shrimp brochette, so good! Its jalapeño and cheese stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon. I mean anything with bacon is good! And for my salad lovers, please get the cajun Cobb salad. It's a hefty salad that can be a meal on its own. Every bite makes you want more. I didn't get a drink this time, but based on the selection, I definitely will try one during my next visit.

Yelp
Okay their flavors and seasoning were on point! This place has been standing for years and no telling why!
google avatar

Nokie S.

Yelp
I haven't had crawfish in a really long time, and I have mixed feelings about Orleans crawfish. I feel like overall its a good price for as much as you get, but the seasoning is really salty. I ordered the crawfish on Uber Eats. The crawfish at the top of the container wasn't that salty, and actually had pretty good a savoury flavour, but the crawfish at the bottom drowning in the liquid was just plain salty. It was alright. The seasoning had a strong black pepper flavor.

Yelp
Wasup Family, Well after a long day of adulting, I decided to pull up to Orleans Seafood Kitchen because I had not been in such a long time. Fast forwarding, the service exceptional and it started filling up very fast around 645 pm. The bartenders were very attentive. Anyways, good drinks and food... pull up on us! Oh, and get you a HURRICANE while you're at it! Love, Uncle Hef

Yelp
Hello I usually don't leave bad reviews but I want to save someone money. I order takeout shrimp and oysters plate yesterday. My order was ready 5 minutes within me placing my order. So when I picked it up it was of course cold and cold french fries are the worse. When I looked at my shrimp and oysters they looked over cooked and they were. So a quick minute in the microwave did nothing for my food. I lived in Louisiana for a couple of years have family there they shouldn't name this place Orleans it should be called Captain D's taste like seasoned Long John silvers. I would like my money back.
google avatar

Kathie W.

Yelp
Delicious food great service. The prices are reasonable. Have ordered from them many times and always satisfied.
google avatar

Tosha A.

Yelp
I ordered the red snapper, smothered green beans, and dirty rice. I was so disappointed by the lack of seasoning and flavor. I tried adding salt, pepper and hot sauce but it was still not good. Food is 1 star. I give the customer service 2 stars simply because there's not much customer services needed.

Yelp
Food was pretty good and serve was solid . Has a decent lil bar on the side of the place

Yelp
*Updated Review* Yall!! I ate fried Alligator and it was good!!! First off this was my 2nd visit to give this restaurant another shot as maybe I came in on not the best day or picked not the best item that time. Oh but this time everything was on point! Yall the fries were so much better this time! You won't be able to see them in this pic under the food but they were seasoned this time! Everything was seasoned well! I was so happy! So my 2nd visit I wanted to try something different. I saw alot of people with gumbo & their salmon but I decided to go for their Chargrilled Oysters & their Big Easy Platter. It was only $2 different from the other platter and this one came with 2 catfish, about 6 shrimp, 1 stuffed shrimp, fried alligator & crawfish. Everything was good including the oysters. Again I had great service. The cashier told me the alligator tasted like chicken but to me it had a bit sweeter meat taste like the shrimp does. I definitely enjoyed it! The food came out hot & fresh! On Mondays their main frozen drinks are $5 so I got the Blue Voodoo & it was so smooth & delicious! Might've had some Malibu rum that gave it a slight pina colada flavor with the tequila. Definitely a great taste. They had great music playing over the speakers so it really gave me an nice escape to New Orleans with my drink & the good food had me doing my happy chair dance. I really appreciate Chance reaching out to hear out any concerns or disappointments about OSK. It shows great dedication, support, & concern about the restaurant & its community. I encourage everyone to check them out & if it's something not up to your liking let them know so they can fix it. You'll be glad you did!

Yelp
Still one of my favorite seafood places! Today I had a light lunch crawfish bisque and house salad! Both was great!

Gerald H.

Yelp
Oyster platter was incredible have been back 3 times the shrimp po boy was nice will continue to get back service was excellent great New Orleans flavor

Shamierra J.

Yelp
Food was not the best , do not recommend. Crawfish did not have any seasoning. Gumbo tasted like straight gravy. Po -boy (fish) - crumbled fish on my sandwich Everything just cold disappointed!!!
google avatar

Jess C.

Yelp
Food wasn't bad. Do wish they give a tiny bit bigger portions of seafood choice with the poboy. Atmosphere- They need to turn their ac down.As it is it's hot in Texas. Wish they had menus right when you walk in vs having to go interrupt the cashiers. The cashiers we got one that wasn't aware of the menu?? I asked for half poboy, cup of gumbo, fries. When I asked for my gumbo he thought I was asking for a side bowl of... Also when I asked for my drink cashier gave me a look and ignored me,my bf had to tell him I needed a drink added to my meal. I was like geez I need a soft drink to wash this food down with but ok.
google avatar

Monica B.

Yelp
I really like OSK. The shopping center where it is...is another story. The parking is terrible over there due to the number of restaurants, and as is typical for this poorly planned area of Katy, there are few entrances and exits to the parking lot. Someone please tell the designers out this way that too few access points create bottlenecks. Back to the review... It's a counter service type place, and they do not allow you to take a seat before ordering, especially when busy, but if you're not alone it's not much of an issue. It's typically clean, and the service is friendly. Any dish featuring their sausage is a winner. The sausage is the smokiest I've ever had and reason enough to order any dish it's in. I also like that you can easily add extra shrimp, sausage, crab, almost anything without issue. I also like their boudin balls and crab fingers. I definitely recommend if you like seafood, and we've ordered delivery too, and everything arrived packaged well.

Shawn F.

Yelp
My food wash good and service was good. It was busy and staff handled at best as they could.
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
I will say this location has superb service! We get this to go for our office every other week or so and they are always very quick with putting everything together and thoroughly check that nothing is missing and everything packed securely. I enjoy the chicken and sausage gumbo and the seafood gumbo. Love the jalapeño cornbread muffins. Today I ordered the crawfish bisque. In my opinion this made for a really great crawfish queso. It's very very rich. Also, I thought it was a little fun that the kitchen went a little rogue with the frickles as they are prepared sliced as a long vertical strip of fried pickle. Nice batter on there though. It's not New Orleans but it's a good Cajun option for Katy.
google avatar

Creole P.

Yelp
Real Catfish, not that swai crap So they get 5 stars Hennessy Lemonade Drink on point too
google avatar

Kei V.

Yelp
I've been here to dine in a couple of times and it's always dirty, you have to pick Your table and come back to pick up your food so after the second time i decided to get delivery only. The food is just okay, the two times i ordered delivery the food was warm but both of my drinks were missing each time. Would say not to try it but not raving about this place.

Yelp
I was so excited to come to the 15 year Anniversary event! I knew that it would be lots of people, so I was prepared to wait in line. This is my 3rd or 4th time coming to the yearly anniversary event. I love to come because of the Live band and the Crawfish. I got there about 6:45 and had to park in a lot close by I10 because it was packed. I went and got in line and my friend met me there. We waited patiently. We got inside the door and many people were coming in and out. I noticed that there were people that had stood in line and went inside and got a table without ordering. Their friends and family members were also coming in and sitting at those tables. No one was monitoring this. There was a girl that told us to close the door while we were right inside of the door. There were so many people coming in and out. She should have been monitoring all those people saving tables for others, while we all waited in line to order. Lots of the people in line didn't have a place to sit because of this. We finally ordered and we both ordered 3 lbs of Crawfish each. They had a special for $4.08/lb with a 3lb minimum. That was perfect! We received a buzzer. My buzzer went off and I went to get my food. I noticed that my Crawfish was in a styrofoam container. I knew right off that was not 3 lbs. I opened it and was taken aback. I told the guy that gave me my order that, that was not 3lbs and he told me that that is how the crawfish comes. I told him to go and get the scale. While I was talking to him he started telling another guy, that I think may have been a manager my issue. I told the guy that he was telling, that I know that was not 3 lbs. He said that he would bring me out another lb. I did not like this at all. Do not try me, especially with my Crawfish. I also noticed that my sausage was not cooked all the way. I went to the front to report that and the guy that was getting me the lb had a half styrofoam container with the Crawfish in it. I gave him the sausage and I didn't even say anything else about the Crawfish because I was upset. My friend went to get her Crawfish and I could see her arguing with the same guy that gave me my order. I already knew what it was about. She came back to the table and told me about the Crawfish. She made them get the scale. They weighed the Crawfish and it was 2lbs and some but not 3. The same mgr brought her the same styrofoam container as he did with me. We were very shocked about this. They knew they were having this event. They should have been more prepared and ordered containers that would fit 3lbs of Crawfish. I feel that they ran out of the platters so they started serving people Crawfish in strofoam containers knowing that it was not 3 lbs. Another lady had heard us and came to our table to tell us that she made them weight her Crawfish and it was only 2 lbs and some. SMH!!! Why try to get over on people. Some people may have not said anything, but real Crawfish eaters know 1lb, 2lbs, 3lbs, psh 10lbs by looking at it. RaRa & Da Zydeco Allstarz did an excellent job! We really enjoyed them! Our food experience was ruined by what had happened with the crawfish though.
google avatar

Dorothea C.

Yelp
The food here was amazing! Run don't walk to this spot! When u walk in you can either stand and view the menu or take a menu to your seat and view it. You have to give your order to the front and come back up and get it but that took nothing away from the ambiance. The place is spotless and set up just right. The frozen drink was very tasty but not strong. You'd probably need like three or four to feel a little buzz. We had the catfish with dirty rice and crawfish etouffe. From that first bite you are truly hooked! I can't wait to try something else on the menu!

Yelp
Came Friday night for some good food and vibes and got just that. The wait for my food didn't take long
google avatar

Tonyia F.

Yelp
So disappointing. Chargrilled oysters should not be called that here. The presentation of the oysters were pitiful. Didn't even taste like chargrilled. They were rushed in the cooking process. Do not order this. The cup of sea food gumbo....you can smell the scorched roux without even tasting it. It had bare minimum like 2 shrimps in there and the rest was rice. I'll never eat here again.
google avatar

Frankie H.

Yelp
I was really excited my friends choose this place because I have been craving for gumbo. Well I lost the excitement once I got there. One of my friends had a bowl of gumbo and I tasted it and the roux was so thick almost like a gravy, so of course I chose not to order it, instead I got the crawfish Bisque. I felt like I was eating a bowl of melted cheese with crawfish fish. I also had hushpuppies and they were very dry and a bit over cooked. Another friend had fried fish and she said it was ok. The pecan pie is very good. I like the flavor and it was not too sweet. The customer service was great and friendly.
google avatar

Donna D.

Yelp
I ordered the kids catfish and it was pretty darn good. I swapped out the fries for dirty rice because double fried food wasn't my jam for the night. The catfish was fried perfectly and it was FRESH! After this batch tonight, I'd say it was time to change out the oil. But 100% recommend the catfish. The dirty rice was was 4.5 out of 10, someone from NOLA would probably push the plate away. The rice is definitely Uncle Ben's, it's not the real deal but it's better than French Fries. The serving was huge for a kids portion! Not pictured was a bowl of gumbo and it was probably better that I didn't. It was an embarrassment. The roux... BURNT! On top of that bland. Burnt and bland gumbo is a travesty.
google avatar

Rae S.

Yelp
Chance and Marcus, no your great grandmother's recipe did not impress. I can help you with that if you'd like. My mother's recipe has been making an impact for decades. Please have your people contact me so that we can make some improvements to yours. Thanks, Raven Unimpressed patron

Fallon F.

Yelp
Food is good but just fyi if you order $60 worth of seafood and use Uber eats to deliver don't expect to get any cocktail sauce or anything like that. This is the second time I've ordered $30 worth of boiled shrimp and received zero condiments. I called last time to let them know about the oversight and it still happened again. I'm off to eat $30 worth of plain shrimp, thanks

Jeremey K.

Yelp
I always love the food here, whether it's fried grilled or boiled. Food always smells fresh and even when you take it to go.
google avatar

Yammonika C.

Yelp
Yes, we gave it a five star review. We were visiting from Memphis, Tennessee i and my fiancé and his son we really really enjoyed the salmon, shrimp, steamed broccoli french fries, and he had, 2 pounds of crabs and had a blast eating every bit of the plate Thank you so much for your service. We will be back.
google avatar

Natosha D.

Yelp
The service was good. It's a walk up and order type of restaurant. You have to choose your own seat. I had four items. Gumbo, Bisque, Dirty Rice and Boudin Eggrolls. The Bisque was my favorite and I cannot wait to go eat more.

Precious A.

Yelp
Catfish is great with the sauces. Cornbread and hush puppies as well. The gumbo is decent BUT id have to say im very annoyed that they literally portioned maybe a tablespoon of rice to a whole bowl of gumbo. I mean literally its a very tiny to go condiment cup the rice came in. I feel as though that should be communicated in the menu. Long story short boil your own rice if you want the gumbo. Also don't waste your time adding shrimp to your gumbo. The shrimp were clearly frozen small shrimps and there were only 3 in the entire cup Boudin balls are a hard pass, they're gross! In response to the owners comment, the rice was not added on as a side. Whatever rice that is suppose to come with the gumbo didn't come with the bowl or cup ordered. The only rice that came were maybe a tablespoon noted in the picture below. Y'all should even be ashamed of yourselves even considering this a "side order" of rice. And please let's be for real about the extra shrimp I order with the gumbo!! What a joke! This isn't gulf anything. Straight from the freezer! Extra shrimp was suppose to go in the gumbo not on the side.

Lisa R.

Yelp
Delicious and affordable. Try the pecan crusted trout! They have counter service which keeps the overall cost down.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Clean establishment and friendly service. The Jambalaya had a nice smokey flavor. This was my favorite dish. Had both seafood and chicken/sausage gumbo. The color was nice and dark, however very thin (watery). No okra. Just isn't gumbo (to me) without okra. Didn't see the 20% off for us geezers, but I will probably eat here again.
google avatar

Niiki L.

Yelp
The food here is okay once before I ordered the seafood gumbo and it was more like a soup with little rice. We also had the crawfish étouffée and it was pretty good

Alice Elaine W.

Yelp
I order a Big Easy to go and was a little disappointed with my food. My fish was fried to long it was well seasoned but not freshly fried it wasn't hot enough or crunchy. The oysters were not cooked their best either. The stuffed shrimp, fried shrimp, fried crawfish and French fries were good. I've eaten here when the food was delicious, just not all of it tonight. Their chef was out tonight. I expected fresh, hot fish and oysters I got burnt fish and oysters. I also got a half gallon of frozen alcoholic beverage which was on point. Thank You! Alice W.

Nia B.

Yelp
Don't not eat Orleans crawfish there was a big nasty ass bug in my crawfish by time I saw it half the pan was gone I feel disgusted
google avatar

Candace G.

Yelp
We had crawfish and stuffed shrimp delivered as well as seafood gumbo. The crawfish was traditional Cajun style and was very flavorful and spicy.! I was pleasantly surprised.

Breionne R.

Yelp
Food is trash do not waste your money. Food was very bland no flavor. Grilled oysters were burnt and overcooked. My husband food was ice cold. Grease looks like it haven't been changed in a while. We are from New Orleans and know what good food tastes like. Please don't waste your money!

Tahiesha W.

Yelp
Great Food , atmosphere , the bar drinks are amazing ! The service was terrific as well! My family and I have made this a regular family meeting space for our special occasions. The price is right !
