Oro Restaurant

"Temporaly closed. For visitors not staying at the legendary Hotel Cipriani (home to Oro Restaurant), the excitement of this dining experience starts with your journey from St Mark’s Square. From here, the hotel’s private boat will take you to Giudecca island across one of the most spectacular corners of the lagoon which is overlooked by some of Venice’s most famous sights and monuments. Exploring and skilfully adapting nature’s incredible ingredients, the cuisine at Oro is certainly worthy of its magnificent setting." - Michelin Inspector

The restaurant is beautiful and the service impeccable (probably the best we experienced in Italy). I did get eaten alive by mosquitos but that’s not necessarily something the restaurant can prevent. The food was good but portions were very small. The “lagoon” appetizer was my least favorite dish tasting very much what a swampy lagoon would but the seafood pasta was delicious. Maybe the new chef was just too avant garde for my taste. For €95 euros you can have one small lobster tail and €65 will get you 6 thinly sliced beef. I expected to pay a premium at a Michelin star restaurant of course but if you are wanting something more hearty this is not the place.

Best dinner in Venice hands down! Lovely atmosphere, best food, and extensive wine list. Also big shout out to our polyglot waiter Samuel for conducting the dinner in Spanish. Truly remarkable!

Overall the meal was enjoyable but we struggled to consider it a Michelin starred meal. Our reservation was booked by Hotel Cipriani’s concierge team for our honeymoon but at no time during our dinner did they even acknowledge our honeymoon. We also had an 8 PM reservation and the Guinea Fowl was already sold out. The restaurant opened just 30 minutes before we arrived. This was the dish I was hoping for so that was a bit disappointment. Overall the rest of the food was delicious with nice presentations, but overpriced and small portions.

This place saved our engagement evening. It was wonderful and a great journey with spectacular dishes and entertainment. Each dish has a story, you literally feel that they made this place only for you. Dear team, I'm so thankful for your hard work, please ignore stars that are less than 5, I was surprised that this place is not a two star Michelin.

What a terrible experience and a waste of our time… and money. We are regular customers of Michelin star restaurant and trust the reference. I went there with my girlfriend for a romantic evening, arrived at 20h15… I was surprised seeing that both menus got pricing on, but that was nothing compared to the rest. At 22:30 so more than two hours later we did not reach the half of the menu sometimes waiting 30 minutes between two dishes. We nicely said twice that was a bit too long but nobody seemed to care about it. We lost both our appetite and our enthusiasm. We also noted that nobody took care about keeping the table neat and clean in between dishes. Half way through the menu, we reached the point where we asked to leave: needless to say that for a Michelin restaurant customer, paying 500€ euro the evening it is a very strong statement. The Executive Assistant Manager came and asked why and after explanation his only solution was to offer the drinks… 60 euros for the two cocktails we ordered. We have no word for the disrespect we felt and strongly advice Michelin to double check the recommendation. We lost a very precious moment that we should have cherished our whole life.

2nd best meal I have ever had! Insanely fantastic dinner! Not to be missed when in Venice! The gardens and grounds surrounding it are also beautiful. Food was exceptional as was the service. Wine pairings were almost perfect. My wife and I had a terrific time thanks to the staff. Great view as well.

An adventure of flavours. It was perfect a culinary experience for our honeymoon. We loved the Vegetum menu and the wine pairing. The service was impeccable. Location and view were beautiful. Thank you so much.

I would have rather paid the €500 to avoid the experience entirely. Apparently the menu changes often, which means they must only serve decent food when Michelin is there to write about it. Each plate was a parade of horrible. It was as though the chef went to the fish market and picked the food that no one else wanted. Cod bladder, cuttlefish bone (which tastes like a wet Kleenex), and the oyster sorbet were the most offensive. We were frankly shocked. After each plate the servers said “some people really love it” which left the impression that most people absolutely don’t.
