"Oro, the restaurant from Commonwealth’s Jason Fox that closed after nine months in the location, may have suffered from similar problems, in addition to mid-Market’s reputation as tenuous for restaurants (nearby Bon Marché, Cadence, and Dirty Water all folded soon after opening)." - Ellen Fort

Oro provided a dining experience which I had not felt in a very long time. My lady and I took advantage of the blind tasting menu and were not disappointed. We appreciated the variety of textures and flavors that came with each dish as well as the creativity and thought put into the some of the more unique ones. Shasta trout capped off the last tasting and we couldn't have been happier with it!

Oro provides a compelling Mediterranean-influenced small plates experience: with all the creative possibilities offered, it's ideal to be able to try a little of everything — and the small plates serving sizes are scaled to your party size to accommodate this. And the cocktails are meticulously and artfully crafted. It's a great place to be surprised by the fare without feeling like subjects in bleeding edge culinary experiments.

Have you ever been to a restaurant that had horrible service and epic failure with the dining experience? Congratulations! Oro wins!! Horrible service from the bar to the dining room. Small portions, high priced. Over rated menu. Needs to get it together. Big time. Absolutely the worse service in the city. Waited a total of 20 minutes from being acknowledgement or even any form.of eye contact. That's bad. It's even worse to wait 10 more minutes for your drinks. Probably too another 20 minutes for the wait to come around to our party of 8 for dinner. He never came around to take our food order. I could've starves if someone didn't order some smallplates. But even after that, the waiter didn't come around to ask for our dinner order. He did ask if we wanted another drink. Mind you, the busser took our initial drink order when we sat down. The gnocchi is the only "decent" or appealing smallplate. Never saw a manager circling the floor. Didn't see the GM come around to the tables. Let alone the Chef. Makes you wonder, how is this place managing??

Really liked the menu - creative but simple. Beef tartare, fluke crudo and gnocchi are must tries. Excellent service andq loved the space - high ceilings, good acoustics, well spaced high and low tables - made it the perfect vibe for a late Saturday night dinner.

I have had the pleasure of dining at ORO several times since their opening with parties of varying sizes(2-8) and I must say that place is frabjous! It is a fun, relaxed place to try some special and creative food & drink. The service in the early months was good, not great, but my most recent visits in Dec. and Jan. were handled exceptionally well.

Found this place to be quite lackluster. "New American" seems to be a new affliction in SF and Oro has caught the fever. Definitely will not be back Here is what we had: Single Bites: ( these are literally single bites that honestly in my opinion are a bit overpriced for what you get.) Sea Urchin, egg and pickled jalapeño: Honestly, these 3 items on their own are some of my favorite items to put in my mouth, but combined at the hands of Oro's chefs were just kind of bland. Lamb heart, prune, eucalyptus and yogurt: This I was pleasantly surprised by, very tasty and well balanced. Beef Tartare with smoked mussels and cured egg yolk: As a lover of beef tartare, I found the smoked mussels too overpowering to make this but enjoyable. Small Bites: Gnocchi with sage, kale, maitake and truffled pecorino: This was enjoyable and was probably my favorite of the night. Gnocchi was perfectly cooked. We split the chicken, which is touted as one of their signature dishes and was unimpressed. Great chicken makes a lasting impression and this was quickly forgotten. The restaurant is still getting its bearings and hopefully will improve over time. Right now, not ready for prime time.

The tasting menu was the best I've ever tried. Their staff was excellent, so I appreciated that the prices included gratuity. We'll definitely be back.
