Now I’m not a local guide or anything, but I have been having sushi at Osaka in Shelby Township for more than eight years. For me, it’s the best sushi in the area and our family always loves stopping by. Always fresh and delicious! The green tea, miso soup, and ginger dressing salad are all very good too. Not to mention how their Team have gone above and beyond for Birthdays! Thank You, Osaka @ Shelby Township, for your great Team (and restaurant!!) 10/5 Review :)

Google
The food was amazing, Carlos Is a great chef, very kind with all the persons. I recommend that if you go on the weekend you make a reservation, since it fills up quickly.

Google
There was a total of 8 people in pairs of 2 at our table and we seem to vibe just fine and the food was amazing... hats off to the entertaining cooking skills of the 👩‍🍳... Wonderful experience

They made my birthday special. Great food we will definitely be going back.

Google
Went here for a birthday party and it was a great time. Our chef was great and kept it entertaining. Food was amazing and we had a good time. They gave the birthday boy a free dessert and souvenir- framed group picture. The server seems a bit rushed and we were quickly herded out after dinner service. We had our cupcakes in the dining room.

Google
Went with 5 others, we had filet, scallops, shrimp, chicken and steak. Everything was excellent. The service was good and the cooking show was fun. Bring your appetite. The ginger sauce was really good and the yum yum sauce was, too. They give you fried rice and noodles. It's a lot of food, and re-heated the next day was just as good.

Google
I have visited before and I loved it but today it was terrible service and the cook used the same utensils for raw shrimp and raw chicken and the raw meat was touching. I didn't eat my $45 meal , no refund or assistance with it once I spoke with manager. The portions was twice as less than the other 2 times I visited. The manager just suggested next time request a different chef. Very disappointed when I had a party of 4 and it was over $170. I won't be back at this location.

Google
Went here for my birthday dinner. I had a great time and great food. Our chef was truly amazing and so funny. I wish I was better at remembering names but I remember having a conversation about him wanting to get his coworkers singing happy birthday more. I completely agree. He was cracking jokes constantly. An amazing experience

Yelp
Located in a large shopping center. There's plenty of parking for easy access. Waiting time is minimal, but it can get busy during peak hours. There are options for sitting at the hibachi table or in the dining room. We chose the hibachi and we're joining by five other new friends. The hibachi is entertaining for anyone that has never been there. It's a great way to celebrate a birthday or a special occasion, particularly for kids. There are options on the menu for sushi, appetizers, in addition to the hibachi specials. The hibachi specials are prepared right in front of you and you can choose from variety of proteins that includes chicken, beef, shrimp, scallops to name a few. All dishes come with rice and vegetables soup and a salad. Potions are very generous. This location does offer a full bar and our service were pretty attentive and we didn't wait too long for anything. The only exception was that I didn't feel the restaurant was exceptionally clean, which is probably due to the hibachi cooking grease. Floors were slippery, curtains separating dining room from bathrooms were in serious need of laundering. If you're looking for a meal where you can have a little fun and not too concerned about housekeeping, you can find a decent meal at this location.

Yelp
Every so often, you need to treat yourself and not worry about the price. This was one of those times. Japanese steak houses aren't cheap, but you always figure in the entertainment factor of the presentation as part of the cost. The thing that separates Osaka from so many places is the quality of the food. Every bit of it, from the rice to the vegetables to the meats, was perfectly prepared and delicious. Make no mistake: that person you think is a performance artist is actually a very skilled chef. While he's able to twirl the spatula around and catch a shrimp in his pocket, and other fun things, he's also perfectly seasoning the grill, and perfectly charring the vegetables and the meats . There's something fresh and light tasting about it, despite the oil. And, you can see the quality of the meat in the preparation as well. We were in a group, so gratuity was included. For the emperor's feast, we got steak and chicken. We added 4 ounces of salmon for $11, and it was spectacular. An overlooked part of the meal is what comes before the hibachi. The soup was a beef broth, which had a rich flavor to it, despite just being a broth. And, the salad had a terrific sesame ginger dressing on it. Nothing special about the lettuce, but the dressing made it excellent. And, the drink service was also brisk. There was a massive amount of food here, so I have to factor that in, but it cost $151 for me and my wife, including drinks. This is absolutely something to do once in a while to celebrate, but I can't imagine doing this as a regular meal.

Yelp
Don't come here on the weekend expecting lunch! Dinner only, wish they would tell you when you check in manager was rude. Waitress was rude. We sat down to 10 minutes and then found out they don't serve lunch on Sundays even though the menu has lunch options ordered a Coke didn't drink it and they still charged us for it. Poor service or management won't be back. Avoid this place like the plague.
google avatar

Sam Q.

Yelp
All the food was great. Ordered 2 sushi rolls, potstickers, and the Chicken Katsu. The latter was way more food than I was expecting, but I'm certainly not going to complain about that!

Yelp
Best hibachi around!! I've been coming here for years, and honestly nothing beats Osaka. The atmosphere, service, entertainment of the talented hibachi chefs, and of course the food, but the HUGE portions will leave you happy that you have leftovers (pro tip- ask your chef for extra garlic butter to take home). I love that your entree comes with veggies, rice, and noodles, as well as they're delicious miso soup and ginger salad. Their scallops are big, flavorful, and the best I've had. When I have a day off, I also like to come in for their lunch special, which are generous portions for a lunch price.

Yelp
My wife and I have been going there for years even prior to Covid. We continue going there even with the high volume turnover in wait staff and hostess. We were there when Jose was cooking all the time and now that Mr Mike cooks for us. However, the staff is not the greatest. The waitress', minus Hannah, only come around to take drink orders, drop off soup and salad, and the check at the end. As of late, the waitress' we've had have to be called over by the chef to get drink refills because they don't come around. Our most recent visits, Sunday, was by far the worst because other waitress' had to come around while our main waitress was non existent. While I recommend the food still, I wish management would do something about the staff.

Yelp
I've been visiting Osaka for over 20 years. It's always amazing. They're very consistent. I think they're way better than larger hibachi chains. I always get the chicken dinner and my favorite part is the garlic noodles!

Yelp
Party of 6 - old friends. 2 had never been to Japanese steakhouse before. Was fun. Had a super friendly Mexican chef. Food was great- ordered 1 dinner -with a side for 2 people . Went with scallops, steak. Of course veggies, noodles & fried rice - great also . Enough for leftovers .

Yelp
A wonderful experience for my first time having Hibachi! Osaka was a really fun time with some delicious food. We were seated with two other small parties which is pretty normal for Hibachi dining. You don't necessarily need to converse with others but I was next to a talkative couple which added to the fun. We ordered the scallop/steak combo and it was delicious. It seems a bit pricey at $34, but the amount of food you get makes it really worth it - soup/salad as a starter, your choice of fried or white rice, fried noodles, and of course your choice of meat. The portions here are HEFTY and you're almost guaranteed to have enough leftovers for a second meal at home. Service was great, we had a friendly server and a wonderful cook who knew how to entertain us while also making sure we had enough food. I originally ordered white rice but really was interested in the fried rice and so he made sure I had small scoop. The vibe of the restaurant itself is really nice! We came during lunch and it already had a nice soothing vibe, but I can tell it gets pretty lively and fun here for dinner. Overall, an excellent choice for Hibachi and I couldn't recommend it more!

Yelp
Wonderful hibachi restaurant. There are some great options that make me prefer Osaka over any other hibachi restaurant in the area. The number on thing is the hibachi noodles, such a wonderful garlicky, buttery treat. Everything else is good too, portion sizes are over the top, there is good variety with both hibachi proteins and sushi available. We go to Osaka every Xmas eve and love it. The grill masters always put on a good show as well.

Yelp
I don't know what time they stop serving people but we were there at 9:20 and we're not served tonight. Maybe consider putting a sign up?
google avatar

Tom B.

Yelp
Best hibachi in town. Garlic noodles, fried rice and your choice of protein. Don't know if they use margarine or butter, but it's a favorite. If going in for dinner, put in a reservation. The entrance has a Japanese motif that's pretty relaxing.

Yelp
Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna. Topped with avocado, jalapeño, spicy mayo, eel sauce and sriracha. HOT! but fresh and flavorful. Good appetizer to pick! How creative for NYE!

Joaquin V.

Yelp
The food was amazing super recommend the firecracker sushi and the steak and shrimp hibachi. Fast service and very friendly.

Yelp
This place is very cute with its interior and the restaurant is clean. The service was good, but the wait can be long, so it's best to put your name in and go shopping. They will give you a call when your table is ready. I love the hibachi and the live show that comes along with the food. The chefs are all so kind, and I enjoy it when a child is at the table because they always do something a little extra. The only complaint I have is the amount of butter! The food is amazing, but after a few bites, my hands swell, and I can hear my heart beating fast - lol. This may be a me problem!

Yelp
Love Osaka the food is always cooked and seasoned just right! Pricey but worth it ! The service is also really good servers are kind and the chefs are hilarious

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about this hibachi restaurant. My family & I have been coming here over 10 years, we celebrate every birthday & occasion at this establishment, it never gets old! I've compared it to many other local hibachi meals & none of the others compare to Osaka! The service never disappoints , the wait times move quick & the place is owned and ran by amazing people! Ambiance is perfect for any celebration or even to spice up date night. They have an awesome sushi & drink menu too!

Yelp
I haven't wrote a review in a long, long time. This place warrants one. The customer experience is nonexistent.. They don't give access to Wi-Fi even though they will have you wait for an hour even WITH a reservation.. if you don't. have a reservation, 2.5 hours wait, ---no Wi-Fi. Even though they have TWO seporate networks and know their restaurant has ZERO cell servise, they won't allow guest to use their Wi-Fi (what kind of communistic crap is this) . This is a (so called) Japanese restaurant, not communist china. I asked management about the WiFi during my 2 hour wait and they said they wanted the focus on the restaurant. Don't dictate what you want me to focus on. You want me to focus on the 1 plus hour wait time, and the disgusting filth across the restaurant. Or is it you don't want your guest to access the WiFi to write reviews on what an awful restaurant you have because you know if they don't have access they will forget by the time they get home and have servise. At best this restaurant cleanliness is (-100) out of 10. The service is the worst, I've ever experienced in my entire adulthood going to restaurants. I've traveled the world and takes the place for worst. Chanel 4 news needs to do a segment. The waitress came by once after 30 minutes being sat and asked for drinks we received our drinks roughly about an hour after sitting down and then we never saw her again.. I actually had to get up and go get our own to go boxes for not only the table of 6 guest I brought , but for the other guest that joined us at the hibachi table. The reservation staff is beyond rude and non accommodating. One would receive better service in the COUNTY jail. The place is so rundown there is zero investment into refreshing the place.. the bathrooms are better in a public Porta Potty, mind you the average tab for two is over $100 here, not complaining abbot price but the experience and price should be somewhat equivalent. Not a single paper dispenser to wipe your hands in the restroom, just a McDonald's blow drier and some faucets that were installed backwards (I kid you not) . . The bar when you have to wait for two hours, it was some plywood assembly that they pieced together back in 1990, with a weaker beer selection then a dusted up RV in a tail gate. Everything about this place and I mean everything is just off, it's falling apart, it's disgusting.. What a shame as I've been coming here for over 13 years. Next time, I will bring my ice skates to be able to maneuver better across the greased floors (caution!) .. I've read comments here and there about if there was a minus one star, I now know; what that means. Lucky for Osaka, the lowest rating that is possible on yelp is a one star. You don't even deserve a one star, you have failed, but what do you care, it shows the moment a receptionist picks up the phone. I can guarantee you the county health department will be visiting the place. Take a look at the picture of the menu, I have attached here. It's so crumpled up and disgusting. I don't know how one could be expected to order off of it. It's missing a whole section that looks like a shotgun hole went through it.. this place is just absolutely disgusting. If this was the experience on the front end, where customers are, I could only imagine how the food preparation area is.. woof . On a positive note, the chef staff is awesome, I just feel terribly bad for them. They have to work under these completely disgusting communistic, lousy owners who don't give a damn about the place, its employees or its customers. It shows as they've already failed in a restaurant that they recently opened up in Detroit and had to quickly sell it because their zero ability to actually maintain a quality restaurant is prevailing. Communism is long gone in America Osaka owners, turn on your damn Wi-Fi., shame on you for such a dictatorship regime you run there. Your bathrooms are worse than a public outhouse in India. Your staff is trained to not give a F*#%k and you pay your staff to write positive reviews is the only reason you don't have a true 1 star on yelp.

Yelp
The chef was great and the food was amazing HOWEVER our waitress was horrible, maybe because we were a party of 6 so she knew no matter what she would get her tip, it took 45 minutes for her to bring us our drinks. By then the other two people at our table walked out and we ended up having to find her and ask her about the drinks before she brought them. When I got my tea she didn't bother to ask if I wanted lemon she just put it down and walked away. Still whatever sometimes people have a bad day. When it came time to check out the people who paid with card got theirs back right away, she walked by me and said she would get my change. well she didn't I waited twenty minutes for our $75 back then when I walked up to ask for it I had to almost follow her to the kitchen and call out to get her to stop then I asked where our change was and she tried to tell me I was the 120 one. I said ya and we gave you 200 now where's my change? She rolled her eyes at me and said oh ya then went to go get it. took another 15 minutes before she brought it then she slammed it down and walked away no sorry no nothing. I have never had worse service then I did with her. I wanted to give the chef a tip but after dealing with all of her crappy service I just left. food was amazing this server made the whole day crap and we drove a long way just to try this place. Highly unsatisfied and this place should really reconsider her employment their because she will be the reason you lose a lot of service.

Yelp
Osaka What can I say? Trip 4 I work at a Japanese company so when our own Japanese coworkers recommend this place, it must have something others places don't. Authentic? Oddly, Hibachi does not exist in Japan. True. It doesn't. For the hibachi experience, you must come to the United States. It's a USA thing. Anything, this place has it all. Food, drinks, good food, and authentic atmosphere. The cooks are trained well and know their knife skills. They have greater skills than the MIYAKO at Great Lakes Crossing. You will be impressed. Highly recommended
google avatar

Amy W.

Yelp
Not too much to really say. It's a Japanese steakhouse. They are all pretty much the same. My aunt likes these places so my nieces and I come with her to make her smile. They won't seat you until your entire party is present which is understandable. It was pretty busy and that surprised me! They did their routine and we enjoyed it. The portion of food was insane. I brought it all home and my son ate it for lunch. It was delicious as usual. If you enjoy this sort of thing then this is a fun place.

Samantha S.

Yelp
Decent food and overall atmosphere. Chef was funny and interactive. Recommend trying once.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Ordered baked spicy scallop rolls, presidential roll, avocado salad, C8 seafood combination, hibachi scallop and fried rice. Nothing like smelling like hibachi for the rest of the evening. Ordered the hibachi scallops and a seafood combination with fried rice. Service was good. Scallops were decent, had some sand or some bits of rocks or something. The calamari was too rubbery for me and thick too. Salmon was good. The fried rice was decent.

Yelp
Hibachi food was rather bland but otherwise good. The chef was entertaining and personable. The restaurant itself could stand a serious deep cleaning. The floors especially need to be cleaned they are very sticky in some spots and slick in other spots. I am surprised no one has fallen yet.

Tony K.

Yelp
Love this place great food great people love there fried rice and noodles one of my favorite

Yelp
It's okay, nothing special and for sure not my favorite Asian food in town. Service was fine, overall very meh place

Tony M.

Yelp
First let me start off by saying i rarely rate places a 5 star unless it's absolutely perfect and this experience was. It was my first time there and as soon as you walk in there was a hostess at the door and sat us immediately. The restaurant was clean, the server and bussers were hard at work and fast. We had mike(i believe his name was) as our chef. His personality was amazing. What a good show. As far as the food goes, man the quality was great, the portion sizes were great, the flavor was spot on and the price was reasonable for how much you got. My only suggestion is why charge extra for fried rice? I mean i bet 90% of people get it, why not just factor it into the base price and make it all included rather than having it an add on. On our way out multiple staff said thank you and come again. The whole experience was positive, friendly, and fulfilling. I said to my girlfriend let's go back next week lol

Yelp
This place was fun to go to for Valentine's Day! The dishes all tasted great and you get huge portions. We made a reservation a month in advance knowing that it would be crazy busy for the holiday and it was nice to walk in and be seated right away! The hostess was very nice along with all of the waitstaff and chefs. I was a bit confused why they had a table right next to the bathroom entrance, it was a little too close for comfort. They sat us there and every time someone had to go to the bathroom they would walk behind us even though we weren't seated in a way to allow people past. So that was a little awkward. Besides just needing a little salt on the steaks the food was great. I got filet mignon and he got steak and salmon. It was a little ridiculous that if you wanted fried rice you had to pay $4 extra since most hibachi places include it with the meal without being extra that much. Overall we had a great date here!
google avatar

Alyssa H.

Yelp
The rice, veggies, scallops, noodles steak were all doused in garlic butter. Mounds and mounds of butter. I ate some rice and veggies and I got the ick feeling from eating all the butter and oil. I tried a piece of the steak, it was tender and delicious. The noodles were atrocious- tasted like straight up vegetable oil, I really cannot believe people eat them. The chef was fun cracking jokes - we tipped him like 40 bucks. The waitress was horrendous, she never came back with drinks, to clean off dirty dishes or to check in with us. she sent another waitress over to deliver the drinks ( after we flagged her down) and the other waitress also gave us our checks - which had 20% gratuity on them (for 7 people). Then the original waitress (I wish I got her name) made it a point to ask us if we wanted a group picture on their camera - we assumed that was also a charge and we kindly declined. She deserved 5$ at most- she needs to pick a different career. I'd never make it a point to go back to this business- extra fattening food that all tasted the same, terrible service, and when you leave your coat and clothes wreak from the oil and smoke. It's a nope for me.

Dick E.

Yelp
The food here is outstanding and consistent. The service is always on point. And they always make it an enjoyable experience. Nice spot to bring your family or a date.

Yelp
The best hibachi around hands down. The Sushi is always very tasty. The chef had all kinds of tricks for my son and they both had our whole table laughing. The décor is warm and inviting, I highly recommend this place for a night out!
google avatar

Mae D.

Yelp
Sushi was okay. I've had better but the service was good! Server had good customer service. Wasn't busy, was sitter immediately.
google avatar

Matthew Z.

Yelp
THE FOOD IS AWESOME!! I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for great, funny service, the chefs cook in front of you while talking, that interaction is pretty nice!! Food is kinda pricey BUTTTT you really get the bang for your buck because the portions are huge which leaves you super full if not taking leftovers for lunch the next day, nothing but good words for this place i highly recommend.

Tricia M.

Yelp
poor service - placed order for carry out for sushi 1 without cream cheese and 1 with cream cheese when i got home noticed both rolls had cream cheese. they asked me to bring order back and because i only brought 1 roll back they had to charge me. i would not recommend customer service is terrible and they do not stand by their orders Unless you want to pay 2xs for it. After i drove back with the order and the rest of the food is cold. Terrible

Yelp
I went here for my birthday and Father's Day. Our server and chef were outstanding. I spent a lot of the time speaking with the chef and he explained what he was doing and was extremely courteous. I will be back next year for the same occasion!

Carol K.

Yelp
Great experience. Food was wonderful and plentiful. Our hibachi chef did a great job. I haven't been there in years only going to Shogun but I will only go here now. Just fantastic

Lo M.

Yelp
I've been looking for a delicious hibachi place and this place did not disappoint. It was super busy on a Saturday, luckily we had a reservation. Our chef was friendly & cooked our food to perfection. We'll definitely be back
google avatar

Alicia H.

Yelp
Normally come for the hibachi and sushi, never disappointed. They have Chinese food, a bar w a tv and a sushi bar.

Yelp
Usually one of our favorite places to go, not happy with this visit. They had a gas leak scare, which is absolutely out of their hands - but they continued to string us along for 15-20 minute increments on end when we had originally made a 6pm reservation to be safe for a 7:45pm movie. Once 7pm came we had no choice but to leave. They continued to try to convince us to stay (just 15 more minutes!). When we made it clear we had to eat before a 7:45pm commitment, their attempt to make it up to us was "giving us a priority reservation in the future". Not sure what that really would mean as usually reservations are priority in the first place. At least a 10% discount or something for our next visit would have been nice after taking up over an hour of time for my party of 5. That, or not continually stringing us along.

Yelp
I've been coming to this pLace for years. I'm rating it 4 stars based on all of my experiences in the past. However- if I based it on my most recent it would be 2 stars. We called on our way there around 6pm- the girl said we wouldn't be able to get seated until 830p. We decided to just walk in anyways & sure enough - we were seated immediately (for the hibachi grill). I mean if I were a business owner - I'd be upset knowing that an employee was possibly turning potential patrons away by giving an obnoxious wait time, which clearly wasn't accurate. Anyways, the hostess (assuming it's the same girl who answered the phone) said we could be seated shortly- then she handed menus to someone else & called 3 other parties & they all left & I said 'are we supposed to be following her?!' And the girl with the menus came back and asked us to follow her. Like no real direction on what we were supposed to do. The hostess completely ignored us. We get seated. Then waited 5 minutes to even ask for a drink menu. Why wouldn't the hostess ask if we would like one before seating us??? The food and chef were great- like usual. No complaints! Worst part- as soon as the chef was done cooking he left the grill, servers were coming over collecting dishes, asking if we wanted boxes. Didn't ask if we wanted another drink. They were rushing us beyond belief. We actually asked it they were trying to rush us (I had a full plate of food and was still eating) & the server didn't say anything, just left. Finally someone else came by and apologized and said they weren't rushing us! But I mean of course they were - so rude and off putting. We just spent over $100 and felt like we were taking too long. And mind you, the other people at the table weren't even done eating either. When we walked into the lobby - it was packed! So obviously we figured out why they were rushing us out of there. Disappointing

Caira M.

Yelp
Loved the food and ambiance . Will return for sure . One star off for the ladies room. It could be more updated and cleaner.

Yelp
I'm only going to give it 2 stars for service/chef & waitress. Nothing else is worth mentioning.

Yelp
Place was good and the service was amazing. The place brings u back to being in Japan. Yes, they do not do habachi in Japan but the atmosphere inside makes u feel like u are in a restaurant there. We came here for a family gathering and sat at the habachi table. You might want to make a reservation just in case. The staff take good care of you and is very kind. The habachi table is clean and nice to sit around and watch the cook make our food. He did a great job entertaining us. Overall, the experience was amazing and would recommend going there.
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
The service is always very good. They have a good array of sushi, Japanese and Korean food.

Dawana H.

Yelp
Unlike some previous reviews, our dinners were fantastic. Chicken, steak and shrimp were tender, flavorful and delicious and serving portions are large, very filling and the sauces are tasty! The one consistent complaint that has been posted here many times is that they rush you out. That is definitely true. We hadn't even finished eating when we were asked if we needed boxes to take our food home. Granted, it was a weekend day, they were busy, but we seriously had not even made a dent in our dinners yet when they came around with boxes and bags for us to pack up and leave. It is the only drawback I can honestly say effects this review. Aside from the feeling of being rushed out of the restaurant, our food was good, service was good and the table chefs are very entertaining. If you go, plan on an in-and-out dinning experience and get the take out boxes to enjoy your food later.

Yelp
Good was good and the hibachi chef was entertaining but service overall was lacking. Did not portion out friend rice for one of our party members and ended up making it for them at the very end which kinda sucks since most people enjoy the rice with the rest of the food. 3 members of our party order white rice that didn't come until we asked about it. Would've liked to have a few drinks (we were here for my birthday) but our waiter came only came by twice. I guess when the tip is automatically added in for large parties you don't really have any incentive to try and provide decent service ‍

Yelp
Great sushi, great service. My friends and I came after the 25% cap opening, and we felt very safe and happy to be there! We saw a lot of carry out, and overall the restaurant guests were very spread out. The sushi was great, tasted fresh and we were not disappointed!!

Yelp
This place is Amazing, the food was outstanding and our grill master was super funny and very good. I would definitely come back again as I really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. This place isn't super expensive either, so it's ok to bring the family.

Yelp
Great food and even better service! Would differently recommend this place to anyone that likes good food and good entertainment.
