Takoyaki Is More Than a Street Food in Osaka, Japan | Eater

"A dedicated takoyaki market inside HEP Five opened in 2022 where vendors experiment with creative flavor twists—examples include cheese, mentaiko, and plum topped with grated daikon—to showcase contemporary and playful takes on the street-food classic." - La Carmina

Osaka is home of Okonomiyaki! 🐙 This market is a food court of different tacoyaki shops, so the reviews can get a bit complicated 😂 I ate at the one to the left of the giant tacoyaki tower, which had beef tendon yaki. I wanted to try something different and I'm so glad I did! Amazing. 🍻 Beers and highball, too! 💳 Takes credit card Can order at a machine or a person. I went to a person so I could point at the menu, the machine had complicated navigation for a not-amazing Japanese speaker.

The concept of this place for trying many different kinds of Tatoyaki is great, but “Kukuru” here was the worst Tatoyaki quality I have ever had. Their service was terrible, and their quality of Tatoyaki (especially Akashiyaki) was the worst. Anyone can do better than them. Do not go to “Kukuru” here. “Juhachiban” gave us great services but Takotaki itself was okay. Anyway, I recommend going to a proper Takoyaki restaurant for 100% sure.

I tried 4 different shops to see which one was best. All of them have a sample box to try different flavors. All of them were delicious. I enjoyed all the shops and flavors thoroughly. You order on a screen so it is easy for English speakers.

3.5 ⭐️ Reasonable price point for its offerings, making it a convenient spot to grab a bite. The four-flavor takoyaki set was enjoyable, though the original flavour stood out as the best. While the pieces of octopus were of good quality, the takoyaki itself leaned on the doughy side, which might not appeal to everyone. A decent option for a quick and affordable takoyaki fix

Great place for a quick bite and a beer, won't break the bank, and the atmosphere is great. A couple of shops to choose from with seating inside and out.

Good price for Takoyaki in town. Taste is quite good, and Tako is big!

A great way to try takoyaki from several vendors, none of which disappoint. Get the takoyaki senbei (takosen), the texture is great!

It was getting late (9 pm, apparently last order is 9:30 pm), we just got out from Hep Five when we walked past. We tried Aizuya (会津屋). Ordering is straightforward, done via machine. You'll receive a ticket for your order number. When they call your number, give the staff your ticket and take your food. We ordered one set of 12 pieces - 6 with tako and 6 cheese for ¥800. At first, we were surprised that the takoyaki looked remarkably plain. No sauce, no bonito flakes, just the "takoyaki" balls. After paying closer attention, it is just how Aizuya takoyaki is, as shown in the menu. After we googled, turns out there is a whole history of how takoyaki was originally like that, plain with no sauce. Really cool! Also that's what you get when you never do any research I suppose! 🤣 Anyway, Aizuya's takoyaki was great. The tako is pretty big inside, though we think the cheese-filled ones are tastier. Despite there being no sauce, the overall flavor is good and makes you want more.
