The Best Restaurants in Boulder, Colorado | Eater Denver

"Though it also serves sushi and ramen, the savory pancakes known as okonomiyaki are this creative Japanese kitchen’s calling card: Get them topped with pork belly or grilled seafood or, when available, stuffed in the form of “Osaka burgers” with popcorn shrimp and fried egg, teriyaki chicken, sukiyaki beef, and more. Sake- and shochu-based cocktails only up the charming ante." - Ruth Tobias

Tradition Meets High-Tech at Boulder’s Next Japanese Eatery | Eater Denver

"I visited a Japanese eatery at 2460 Canyon Boulevard that blends cultures, tastes, and genres; Koji Tamura conceived the concept more than 40 years ago to introduce okonomiyaki to the American market and invented the Osaka burger, which uses two soft okonomiyaki as buns with fillings like sukiyaki beef or fried cod. The sleek, unpretentious space — once a salon — seats 98 indoors with a zen-like private room holding 18 cushions and an enclosed patio with about 20 seats; wraparound windows and flower arrangements brighten the room. Staff in kimonos bow when greeting and serving, while subtle Noodoe blocks on each table let you request water, order, or the check, blending tradition with tech. The expansive menu is grouped into categories such as “Agemono – fried dishes” and “Yakimono, from our Teppan grill,” featuring flower-shaped Hana Shumai filled with pork and veggies, teriyaki chicken, and Japanese barbecue; beverages include cold-roast Silver Canyon Coffee and more than 15 wines, shōchūs, Japanese whiskies, and bottled beers, and handmade desserts range from sweet waffles to Japanese pudding. A sustainability theme runs through the operation — from omitted straws to biodegradable takeout containers — and the team is already eyeing expansion; Osaka’s will open daily starting November 7 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for lunch and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for dinner." - Gigi Sukin

Of Course These Kale Burgers Are Coming to Boulder | Eater Denver

"Opened by owner Koji Tamura and named for his hometown, this new Boulder restaurant centers on okonomiyaki-inspired dishes, including a signature okonomiyaki-style “burger” that isn’t a traditional burger but various meats, fish, or noodles sandwiched between savory shredded-cabbage or kale pancakes. These pancakes can be served open-faced in a skillet for dinner or as bun-like bookends at lunch, with toppings such as vegetable fixings, a fried egg, mayo (and occasionally ketchup); a gluten-free kale pancake option is available. A tray of mini sliders offers fillings like ponzu mushroom and teriyaki chicken, and the evening menu shifts toward more traditional Japanese plates—grilled yakimono, fried agemono, and rice-based gohan mono. The restaurant positions the easy-to-eat okonomiyaki-style sandwich as a novel offering for Boulder’s health-minded diners and will operate lunch, dinner, and happy hour service (with takeout to follow), opening at the listed location on November 2." - Josie Sexton

Date night or regular haunt this place satisfies both moods. Greated with a friendly hello immediately upon entering, gave us a sense of warm welcome. The staff wears kimono and navigate the somewhat tight space, effortlessly. We went on a Sunday at 530 and we just got in without a reservation. (Party of 2) They have 20% off of apps and all alcoholic drinks. (Not tea) (as of Oct 2025) The reason why we went is, on certain days they do a Okonomiyaki Burger. This is two pancakes as buns and the burger is about 9 different types of filling you can choose from. This is the only place to get this! We got the chicken breast which comes in a plum mayo and veg all atop a fried egg. We also got the slice beef, that was close to a bulgogi type again atop a fried egg. As per usual the egg adds so much to the sandwich. This all comes with a side. Very fun, unique and great dish. They only do this burger on Monday, Thursday, Sunday. They also do sushi, ramen, and some yaki dishes. Those have been good in the past but it's always fun to get a okonomiyaki for the table, which is a great experience. They go with a button system, which I feel like more American resteraunts would implement this. You press they come. No waiting around or interrupting conversations. Love it. Warm lighting and cools space. Not loud even though they can pack it in. I do recommend reservations. Pleanty of free parking and easy to get in and out of. Highly recommend this experience!

My daughter loves her ramen and whenever she talks about a new ramen shop that she's tried and mentions nothing but positive things, it naturally draws my attention. Osaka's happens to be the most recent ramen shop that she mentioned to me and since I was in Boulder visiting her, it wasn't a mystery whether we were going to eat here or not. We ended up eating dinner here on 9 Nov 2025 and made reservations prior to arriving...and I'm glad we did because that restaurant was jam-packed. Unfortunately, we didn't get seated as soon as we arrived and had to wait ~14 minutes before they finally called us, but hey, it still beats waiting 45+ minutes. We ordered the Osaka's Ramen, Spicy Miso Ramen, Veggie Gyoza (they were out of the pork gyoza), Ika Geso-Age, Tekka Maki, and Salmon Avocado Maki. Everything was magnificent and I was thoroughly impressed with their sushi quality considering I was in a land-locked state. The ramen broth was hearty and had outstanding flavor; I'd even grade the broth at this restaurant higher than some of the ramen shops in my home city of Las Vegas...and to me, that's saying something. The service was excellent, minus the longer-than-desired wait time at the beginning (even after making reservations). All the servers (including the hostess) did a phenomenal job that evening considering how busy they were. Our primary server, Kumiko, was very friendly and attentive which added to the pleasant experience I had. I was especially intrigued by the little device on our table which allows you to push a button to place an order and to request your bill...it's the little things that create the memories at a new restaurant and make you want to return for another visit. The restaurant's décor was nice and didn't feel overwhelming. The price-to-quantity/quality ratio was reasonable and seemed to be in line with the majority of the ramen shops I've been to in this country. Although, I was a little confused about the 2.98% credit card surcharge that was tacked on my bill. Would I have eaten here if I knew that beforehand? My answer is yes, I would...but I know some folks aren't fans of additional charges that's not the typical price of their meal and the "wonderful" tax. So if you have never tried this place, you've been warned. Overall, I loved this restaurant as depicted in my 5-star rating; although it's probably a 4.7 or 4.8 rating...but since we're not doing decimal points here, I rounded up. So a low 5 star rating for me. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone and if I'm in the area again (I'm pretty sure I will be), I'll be visiting again.

This place is absolutely incredible! We ordered the wagyu beef, a few nigiri, the assorted vegetable and shrimp tempura, and miso soup. Everything was absolutely wonderful. The fish was super fresh and melted like butter! The only thing I didn't like was the yuzu citrus drink. It was way too bitter.

Google
What a treat this place is. We were really in the mood for a ramen spot but needed a place that can accommodate gf options as well. This place went above and beyond to fill our bellies. We tried two different ramens (not gf) and one wagyu beef dish (gf). Had a plethora of appetizers and tried a sushi roll. Highly recommend. Everything was amazing, we cleaned our plates. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable.

Google
My first time eating at Osaka's was phenomenal. I ordered a draft Sapporo and the Osaka's Ramen. The beer came quick and cold and the ramen came very hot. This was the best ramen I have had in the front range area by a long shot. The entire staff was friendly and moved and worked efficiently even in a tight space. The atmosphere was a perfect mix of loud and the space feeling alive but not to loud to easily have conversation. I will definitely be returning to try the Okonomiyaki!

Travis A.

Google
Everything about this place felt authentic. The food the service the atmosphere. I was recommended to try Osaka by many people so I had pretty high expectations. I was still blown away. The food here was easily the best Asian food I have had in Colorado. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. And to top things off the owner came around and introduced him self and told us the story of his restaurant. You can not beat that kind of hospitality. Anything you try here is going to be great I can’t recommend it enough.

Devon W.

Google
A friend who lives in the area brought me here. We had a fair sampling of the cuisine and I was impressed they had a karakuchi sake available. The staff was friendly and well trained. The yakisoba was the best I've had this side of the Pacific Ocean, a surprise and a treat.

Google
We stopped by on a Sunday evening and wanted some down time at a restaurant, but that’s definitely not Osaka’s atmosphere. The restaurant is VERY LOUD, and the seatings are so crammed that we can hardly be comfortable. The wait time wasnt too bad, was informed 20-25 minutes, but we got in within 10. The service, however, was SLOW. Those call buttons are chaotic. Servers were oddly nice, to the point of awkwardness. Food is mediocre, but I assume it’s consistent. We ordered Osakas Ramen, karage, and the fried squid. None was impressive. It’s a good introduction for non native and probably sufficient to the catered audience. Osaka’s was very overwhelming with the atmosphere and superficial with the servers.

Yelp
Everything about our experience here was outstanding - it was truly the best I've had in a while. We arrived at around 7:30pm without a reservation, and the place was almost full, which we took as a good sign! (Especially for a Monday night.) We were seated right away in one of the few open tables left. Our table of 4 shared mostly everything, which we highly recommend doing so you can taste it all! We started with a few appetizers and one of the scallion pancake dishes. We also ordered one of the sushi rolls and sashimi as a mid-course. Each couple shared a bowl of ramen, which felt like a warm hug to close out our meal. Each dish we tried was impressive, flavorful, and unique. Highlights (for me) were the takoyaki and black seaweed salad! This place has really great value, too. A meal at this level of quality in the Bay Area (where we're visiting from) would maybe be 2-3x the price! Our table also tried a few of their Japanese beers and split a bottle of sake, which added to the overall experience. The hospitality was overall impeccable, while also relaxed and oh-so-humble. An older gentleman, who I assume to be the owner, was very active around the dining room, assisting the staff, and following up with the tables enjoying their meals. The sweetest part was when he asked the whole dining room to join in singing happy birthday for a table there to celebrate. This level of hospitality, set by example, trickles down to every other staff member there. Everyone was so kind and attentive! This place is an absolute gem! If I'm ever back in Boulder, I'll be dining again!

Yelp
Best Japanese since moving from CA four years ago. Their tempura and agedashi are delicious and light. Sushi was super fresh! Their Tantan men was delicious -- broth is super rich and flavorful. The Osaka's ramen was delicious as well -- the broth equally as flavorful as the Tantan. The noodles were chewy and perfect. They also offer okonomiyaki which we haven't seen since our visit to Osaka last fall. It's an hour drive for us to get to Osaka's, but we'll do it because the food is that good!!! p.s. the tea is great as well -- I love how they serve it to you in your own little beautiful pot!

Yelp
THE TOPS! If you want a culinary adventure in a cute atmosphere with good service, come here! All the food was delicious, so let's talk about what sets this place apart. Highlights: Sincerely friendly staff The menu had so much variety to appease any pallet. Sushi, ramen, specialty dishes. Clearly market gluten-free and dairy-free options There was a device on the table to signal servers for when you needed something: to order, pay, etc. NO lowlights, but here is what to be prepared for: Timing: We were there on a Saturday and it got BUSY! Good sign for sure. But make a reservation, and be prepared to have the pace match the volume. It wasn't unreasonably slow by any means, but the kitchen was cranking out a lot of food. The sushi came out much faster than the hot kitchen food.

Yelp
I have eaten at many us Japanese restaurants but this was so great compared to the rest. Food and drinks were great. Service was the best i have seen. Loved it so much i went twice

Yelp
Nice service. Surprisingly great Japanese food and quite authentic. Tofu and modan yaki very good. Mille crepe also nice.

Yelp
Great food, good service and nice ambiance. This was our first time at Osaka and we were not disappointed.

Yelp
The best Japanese food in Boulder! I loved the okonomiyaki (wish they added fish flakes on it) since it was loaded with cabbage! The spicy miso ramen was rich. They were a bit busy when I came and had a bit of a wait even with a reservation but understandable since they were a bit understaffed. I love how they have buttons for ordering, needing anything else, and paying the check. It makes it convenient for the waiters and the customer. It's a well decorated and clean restaurant! A great Asian go-to restaurant when you're in Boulder.

Yelp
We took my mother in law and her friend from Japan here and they loved the authenticity. We had sushi, eel, raamen, tea and deserts. The chef came out and chatted with our family in Japanese, which was lovely. All of the food was fresh and delicious, and plated beautifully. The restaurant is clean and spacious, and the food is a good value for the money. We would happily come back.

Yelp
Every time I come to Boulder I eat at Osakas. I'm from Los Angeles and my son goes to CU Boulder. We originally found this place because we're Hilton memebers and this restaurant is a stone's throw from there. They open at 5 for dinner and it's always full. Ive written a couple of reviews already for this place. I still think it's exceptional. Their hand rolls are done extremely well, their salmon is juicy and their noodles have the perfect chew. I love this place and always look forward to coming back to Boulder so I can eat here.

Yelp
As someone who has traveled to Osaka Japan, this place is some of the best Japanese food you will find and you don't have to fly across the globe. Their food and sushi are fantastic - mostly authenticity Japanese but some dishes have a Boulder / Colorado flare. Vegans will be very happy here. The atmosphere is just as Japanese as the food. Service is usually very fast, your server is only a button press away. Owner is adorable and is frequently seen around greeting guests.

Yelp
Fun Fact: Okonomiyaki is a RARE dish to found made in the States! According to Osaka's menu, Okonomiyaki is: "a traditional, savory pancake made with wheat flour, eggs, and crunchy cabbage (or kale) with our original okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayo." If you're going to Osaka's for your first time, you have to choose one of the SEVEN Okonomiyaki to try. They each consist of the base listed above but all have different delicious toppings. There are options of pork, beef, cheese, seafood, veggie and combos. You can even get your Okonomiyaki made GLUTEN FREE! In our case, we tried the Butatama, which is Osaka's Okonomiyaki with Mugifuji pork belly, their OG okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY MINDBLOWING FOR US & OUR TASTE BUDS! Originally, we had wanted to pair this with their famous Yelp Top 100 Burger. However, we found out they only make the burgers Sunday, Monday and Thursday. We pivoted, and tried three sushi rolls: Avocado & Salmon, Negihama (Fatty Hamachi & Scallion) and Negitoro (Bluefin Fatty Tuna & Scallion). It became a happy surprise to find out they also did sushi so well. It was fresh, simple and flavorful. Exactly how we like our sushi. Beyond the food, the service here is fantastic. We sat on the patio where each table had a clicker to let the waitress or waiter know we needed assistance. When we were ready to order or needed more water, you just clicked the button to alert them. It made for a really relaxing meal with minimal interruptions. Super cool gizmo & idea, I loved it! Finally, the coolest part of the meal was being thanked by the owner for coming in. I watched him go around to each table mid meal and check on their experience, as well as, thank them for coming into try his restaurants food. We've only been to a few restaurants that still do this type of service, and we really appreciate it. It always makes us feel very valued as a customer. (: I'll say one of the best overall restaurants I've been to in Boulder!

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Osaka's is a full-service Japanese restaurant in The Village. There's sushi and many non-sushi items. Both sides of the menu are good. Sushi's more expensive. The non-sushi items are maybe not as well-known but are definitely worth trying. They have a button you can press to call for service. They do the irasshaimase thing (they yell "welcome"). There was a short wait (without a reservation). They seemed pretty full on a Sunday evening.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi I've had. Tried the gyoza (4/5 deep fried), ikageso-age (4/5 not too heavy and well battered), the spicy miso ramen (4/5 just an all around great ramen), and the chirashi sushi box (100/5 I have never had such a delicious chirashi assortment with great fresh fish). Service was super fast and the place was overall great. I would definitely come again!
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
Had a lovely experience here for a business dinner. We started with the Edamame. Although it says sea salt I don't think they had any added. We had to request our own. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki with white rice. It was delicious! Our service was fantastic and our food was served quickly, Definitely worth noting that there are NO free refills on sodas.

Chris L.

Yelp
The food here is really good and the staff is service oriented and friendly. The restaurant has a great ambiance and is clean. The only negative is the place is very busy so you should get your name on the waitlist.
google avatar

Maranda T.

Yelp
This is a hidden treasure I cannot wait to be back. Authentic food, kind people, and a great atmosphere. Pro tip: Make reservations, but if you do/don't and there's a wait - hang tight - it is SO worth it!! (I know we can all get hangry, but please be kind - let's support our local businesses!)

Yelp
What a find! Are you looking for that authentic flavor from the Land of Rising sun in Boulder? If so this is the place! A VERY wide variety of different Japanese dishes: Ramen, yakisoba, teppanyaki, pancake dishes aka okonomiyaki, raw fish aka sushi, Osaka burger?? etc, etc. I 100% agree that this is very authentic to the dishes and flavors I found while in Japan SHUSHI there are No fancy "US inspired " overflowing mega rolls with lemons or sauces or baked or deep fried, just standard Japanese styles of maki rolls, sashimi, chirashi and nigiri rolls Agedashi Tofu was spot on! Strongly recommend Fatty tuna and yellowtail makis and large pieces of hamachi for the jalapeño carpaccio. As you would expect Miso and edamame were good We Tried the Butatama, never had that before. Wasn't my favorite dish but well done. The service and ambience are as reported in other reviews. We were there on a random winter Monday and got a table but still quite busy. Strongly recommend calling to make a reservation. Again, this is an experiential meal and if you want to be transported to Japan for the evening come here!
google avatar

Cayla G.

Yelp
Osaka's has improved even more since my last outstanding experience. The service was fast, knowledgable, and friendly. The food was delicious (okinomiyaki is still a favorite) and fresh.
google avatar

Janelle J.

Yelp
Was in town for a hike and wanted to grab ramen after. We saw Osaka had great reviews and thought we would try. We arrived around 4:25 and there was already a line outside which reaffirmed this place was good. We were able to get a table for two without a reservation and so happy we did! The place is cute and clean inside, also offers additional outside seating in the front. They had a full wall of spirits when you walk in and towards the back was their sushi bar. We started with two sushi rolls, spicy salmon and avocado and cucumber. For an entree I ordered their Spicy Miso Ramen. Everything was so good and the service was so nice. Great overall experience, would definitely come back!
google avatar

Jaime Z.

Yelp
This place is delicious! The sushi was very good and the pork was so tender it melted in your mouth.
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
A fantastic place to visit! Food was a little pricey, but definitely well worth it. We had some who lived in Japan and they said the meal was as authentic as it gets. All the fish tastes fresh and not at all like frozen. The spicy miso ramen was delicious. Service was good. It took a little while to get the sushi itself, however it was worth the wait. The himself came to the table and asked how the meal was which we thought was amazing for someone his age. Atmosphere was fantastic. The decorations were simple and nice, and even down to the dish-ware was thought out.
google avatar

Christa R.

Yelp
I am an enormous sushi fan, and this is objectively probably the best sushi meal I have ever had. The fish was so impressive and fresh. I started with two orders of nigiri, maguro and aburi hamachi belly, and followed that with two hosomaki (thin) rolls, the avocado & cucumber maki and tekka maki. The perfect portions! Each bite was better than the last. It was fresh and fantastic! I will return every chance I get! Recommend x 100%!

Yelp
New favorite Japanese restaurant in Colorado!! Pretty, clean, authentic, and delicious!! My favorites: - obanzai set The pickled eggplants, peppers, and root plants The sweet pickle flavor really brings out the best side of the original flavor of the ingredients - agedashi tofu Such rich flavors! Glaze on the outside, and tea in the soup, and crispy shell, with super tender tofu inside Other good stuff - butatama - osakas ramen (the pork was extremely delicious) - hot sake Will definitely come back and try more dishes, especially cocktails, sashimis, and katsu!

Yelp
At first we were really excited to see such an "authentic" looking Japanese restaurant. The waitresses all look great in their kimonos. However, their "calling by a button" system doesn't work very smoothly. We kept pushing the button and nobody showed up until we had to physically flag someone. Osaka's has the best "boring sushi", aka, simple roles like salmon and tuna. Just a dot of fish in the middle of a seaweed wrapped roll, looking very much like a Japanese flag. I say they're the best because you can feel how tightly packed the sushi rice was, as well as the perfect amount of vinegar. They tasted so fresh. I call them "boring" because they aren't that fun to eat: as opposed to sauce and topping heavy "special rolls" that are totally Americanized and not at all Japanese. But I'm used to what I'm used to, aren't you? ;-) The ramen was ok, the okonomiyaki (we had the Gyutama with beef) was ok. The dessert (we had Mont Blanc) was ok. Overall it was a little above OK, so it's more like 3.5 stars for me.
google avatar

Loretta B.

Yelp
Excellent service and very authentic ramen. Restaurant was very clean. Family that runs it is very sweet.
google avatar

Alisa J.

Yelp
The best and probably only place in Colorado for authentic okonomiyaki. I love the shiso negi one. Always comes out sizzling hot and delicious. Highly recommend this amazing authentic Japanese restaurant run by a sweet Japanese family.

Katherine B.

Yelp
Since moving from Chicago, we have been on the lookout for okonomiyaki in Colorado and finally found one in Boulder- it did not disappoint! Would highly recommend the vegetable and cheese okonomiyaki- so flavorful and unique. The miso soup never misses and don't pass on the matcha puff (one of my favorite desserts) The owner is so nice and comes around to check in and hear the history of why he opened the restaurant (very interesting)! All the staff were nice and the presentation of the food/drinks is so cute . Overall, we will be back to try their sushi and get more okonomiyaki! Definitely a new date spot
google avatar

Yelp
I was in Boulder recently on vacation and decided to try Osaka's. I ordered the teriyaki chicken . It came with strips of chicken marinaded in teriyaki sauce along with seasonal vegetables. I really enjoyed the flavor he the teriyaki. The vegetables were also very tasty. Overall, if you are eating at the restaurant and looking for something to order I would highly recommend the teriyaki chicken.

Holly S.

Yelp
Amazing food and service with good vibe! Our favorite spot in Boulder. Owner is great!

Yelp
I would eat here every single week if I could afford it. Authentically Japanese in atmosphere and menu. This place caught my eye because it serves okinomiyaki's which are pretty hard to find (and a pain to make). Tucked away in a shopping center of home design shops, this popular place was hopping on a Saturday night. My sister and I split the Obanzai Set of 3 seasonal vegetable dishes, Takoyaki Octopus Balls and the Modan Yaki with pork belly, yakisoba and egg. All dishes exceeded expectations and were served traditional Japanese style with minimalist artistic style. I am obsessed with authentic healthy Japanese food. I have found these little gems hidden in some of the most unexpected places in the USA. I am so glad I discovered this restaurant and will definitely be a regular patron because I cannot live without Japanese food.

Monika A.

Yelp
The ambiance and staff are amazing. The food was tasty and authentic. We had sushi, ramen, and tempura. Looked like they had a large selection of saki and some nice cocktails as well as a variety of teas, although we didn't order any. Maybe next time.
google avatar

Neal W.

Yelp
I've only been to Osaka's once, but everything we had was fantastic. The takoyaki and okonomiyaki were the best I've ever had and I can't wait to go back for more. There are many other things on the menu ai'd like to try, specifically the vegetable burgers. The owner is very nice and came to our table to chat with us. Looking forward to returning, the food was some of the best I've tasted in Boulder!

Yelp
We tried Osaka's for the very first time tonight and we were completely wowed! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by the attentive staff with a friendly Irrashaimase and a warm ambiance of modern Japanese decor. Pictured below, the Negishio Garlic Ramen was my dish of choice and it did not disappoint. This ramen was the best I have ever eaten even in Tokyo. Each bowl is a work of art made with high quality ingredients and flavor combinations that are nothing short of perfection. The noodles are springy and perfectly cooked, just the way they should be. The tender nuggets of chicken, scallions and red ginger combined with the port bone broth, all added their own unique flavor and crunchy texture. There were plenty of staff all working diligently to provide impeccable service and the restaurant was hopping with customers. You can tell the owners have really poured their heart and Japanese culture into every aspect of this restaurant. After one visit we are hooked! Next time we will be back to try the endless menu options of sushi.

Maddie S.

Yelp
I was very underwhelmed by the sushi. The gyoza didn't have much flavor, and sushi was bland.

Yelp
Decided to try Osaka based on reviews here and I could not have been more disappointed. Party of 2 on a Sunday night with reservations. Seated right away by a friendly kid who explained the menus (yes 4 menus) and table call buttons for service. So we hit the button for service right away, hit it again, and again, and again, watching the tables around us get food and drinks. 20 minutes after being seated, a frantic waitress shows up and finally takes our order. I'm skeptical of sashimi at any new place so I always order the Hamachi, Salmon, and Red Snapper sashimi because in my experience those 3 pieces will you give you a very good idea of what to expect from the fish menu. We also ordered an Unagi roll and 2 beers. 1st round of beers came out pretty quick after ordering, so after 30 minutes, we finally have our 1st drink and an order in, should be quick right, 9 pieces of cut fish, and a simple roll. Another 30 minutes go's by and we finally receive our 1 roll and 9 slices of fish. I'll go from light to dark fish.. Lightest was the Red Snapper, before the bite even hit my mouth I inhaled what tasted like a fishy burp. Once the slimey chewy fishy meat actually hit my mouth I immediately wanted to spit it out. It was so chewy I continued to try to just get it down without throwing up. I should have stopped but figured it couldn't get worse than that so I moved on to the Hamachi. The Hamachi was also very rubbery and chewy and surprising lacked any real flavor. It tasted like dirty water. So finally on to what was supposed to be Salmon but had the coloring of Caucasian skin tone and a shine from the slime that had grown on it. If you know what really low guality FARMED Salmon looks like, then you can perfectly envision this sad, gross piece of Salmon. Yes, I did actually try to eat it and it was absolutely the worst bite of sashimi I have ever had anywhere in my life. Disgusting. My beer was long gone at this point, and our server button had been pushed many times with no response. So I swished the last remaining drops of water from my empty water glass around in my mouth in a febrile attempt to wash away the sushi diarrhea I had just suffered. Paid our $88 bill and left with utter disappointment. My date said the Unagi roll was ok. Whatever you do, DO NOT ORDER SASHIMI

Yelp
So I was originally going to give this place a 4, however I have mixed feelings as I think this place gave me some food poisoning. I had the worst stomachache/felt super nauseous a few hours after dinner. However, here's my experience when I was at the restaurant. The employees were so friendly and they had this high tech device that allows you to easily communicate with the servers what you need before they get to your table. We tried the Takoyaki and I got the Pork Yakisoba. Both were very yummy and the flavors were great. My only complaint was that the food did take a while, but at least you knew they were making it fresh.

Yelp
This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant we have found in Colorado. Their sushi is great but go to the things you may have never tried and you'll have a great meal. The ramen is even great. The range of dishes Osaka is able to do is quite impressive. Their sake selection is even great. The owners grew up with this food and take great pride in their restaurant and you can tell.

Yelp
I took a stroll around my Boulder hotel, when I stumbled upon this special little place. Authentic Japanese cuisine tucked away in the foothills of the great Rocky mountains. They do ramen, they do yakisoba, they do teppan yaki, and they do okonomiyaki. But the real star of the show is their sushi bar. This is "old school" sushi, no fancy dressings or sauce overwhelming the sushi. Just rice, seaweed, and couple of ingredients. The quality of the proteins and the freshness of the produce make their sushi a symphony of simplicity.

Yelp
This Japanese restaurant is well known on Yelp lol. The environment is nice - clean, automatic, well-decorated. 4 stars. Both dishes deserve 4 stars, just as good as it is expected.

Yelp
This is honestly the best sushi in Boulder, hands down. Authentic and delicious. Their seared hamachi belly and black snapper nigiri are amazing. I'd recommend coming here if you want good quality nigiri or sashimi. Rolls are great too but the quality of the fish doesn't need to be hidden behind heavy sauces or fried ingredients, like many other Americanized sushi places. The gyutama okonomiyaki is also incredible. The owner Koji and his family are so friendly and welcoming. They make you feel like a part of the family.

Yelp
Food is OK. It's a nice ambiance. Food takes forever and orders are inaccurate. I wouldn't come here if I am hungry. Maybe get a larger grill...

Yelp
The Osaka Hamburger is not to be missed made with their special Japanese pancake and special bun! Your choice of filling of meat or special mushrooms.

Yelp
I ordered takeout sushi here on a Sunday, when unfortunately a lot of the other sushi places are closed. I could not have been more disappointed--the portions were tiny, sushi was badly prepared and falling apart, almost no soy sauce was provided, and worst of all it was WAY overpriced. It looked and tasted like grocery store sushi. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place for sushi.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! After coming back home from Japan, I had been craving authentic Okonomiyaki. This place is very authentic and tasted exactly like the real thing, also the Tokoyaki is the best I have had in Colorado and it reminded of my time in Japan. The owner is from Osaka and you can tell by the incredible quality and taste of the food. Everyone was so friendly and the service was great, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes authentic Japanese food!

Yelp
Gotta say, was thoroughly surprised and impressed by this gem of a restaurant (and its genuinely caring owner). I'm half Japanese. This place would make my mom happy. Get the okonomiyaki...super rare to find a place in the US that does it well.

Yelp
Truly wonderful. The quality of the fish and all the food was amazing. The family ownership and hospitality is hard to find these days. Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
What a fantastic meal! Lovely restaurant, friendly waitstaff, and excellent okonomiyaki. My husband and I are very familiar with okonomiyaki that we discovered when visiting Japan a few years ago and were thrilled to discover its existence in Boulder! This is an excellent restaurant and when we dined there on a Sunday night, Koji (the owner) went to each table to chat with the patrons. He is a delightful man and this made the experience for sure. Cannot wait to go back!
